Usually I have a great experience at beyond juice, accept for last time. I ordered a mango smoothie which ended up being WAY too chunky. I asked them if they had a bigger straw because (for some reason they got straws that you would use with smooth liquids) the hole in the straw was too small and kept getting clogged. Beyond Juice (BJ) is definitely on my radar. I really like their menu. Everything seems to be focused on "healthy," which makes me breathe easy when I enter the spot. I love their breakfast options, while limited, they are exactly what a person needs to start off their day (whole grains, egg whites and a little "yum" added to the mix). My usual gripe with smoothie places is the usage of banana. I know it is mainly added to make the smoothie sweeter, but I don't need that sugar. That's what makes BJ cool because since they use fresh fruit to make the smoothies, you can ask for them to not use banana. BOOM, Hubert's problem is solved - he-eeeey! I also love that they sell meal replacement bars that are low-glycemic, which for a fitness nut is kind of important to me. You definitely pay for the fact that they carry such unpopular items though. Heck, they have vegan items too and that stuff is NEVER cheap. Comes with the price of being healthy, right? If BJ had wi-fi, I'd work there on a regular basis. *hint hint* Right now, Beyond Juice is better than Tasi Juice Bar (but I will maintain their 4 star rating as their staff is really nice and helpful - plus they have ginger root), because I get the sense that Beyond Juice is a bit more interested in their surrounding community. Food was acceptable, portions were a bit small, and prices are a bit too high for what you get. I had a combo with soup and sandwich. The sandwich was the grilled cheese and it was by far the best thing. The addition of cream cheese was very nice, and the bread was good. Could have been a bit more grilled, it was just turning dark tan. The soup was broccoli cheese, which is a personal favorite, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it had come from a can. Very average, and you only get about 4oz of soup. The smoothie I got was Mango Tango, and I was excited for the mango and pineapple, but all I got was a mouth full of not quite ripe banana and yogurt. It was very bland and tasted like someone had waved a mango and pineapple near the blender before dumping green bananas in. I won't be returning, mediocre food at superior food prices. read more

I've been wishing and hoping for a Jamba Juice in our neck of the woods. Beyond Juice isn't quite that place, but it's a good substitute. The concept is simple, fresh juices and smoothies, to help you with protein and energy and weight loss and whatever your heart desires. They also do wheatgrass shots, and can add bee pollen to your smoothies (which is supposed to help with energy and over all well being). The Meal in a Cup is supposed to provide you with all your carbs and proteins and everything else you would have in a typical meal, but it's not like it doesn't make me still want a side of fries. read more

I love Beyond Juice! One of my favorite lunch spots. They have a wide variety of fresh juices, smoothies, and food such as sandwiches and salads. They also have healthier versions of chips and baked goods. The only criticism I have is that I wish they had more green smoothies. They only have three (The Boss, The Dimmer, and Carlo's Detox). The other smoothies are more fruit-based. The gluten-free bread for sandwiches is one of the best ones I've tried - fluffy, thick, and doesn't fall apart. I thought it was regular bread at first! They have a good lunch special for $8 which I like to get. Make sure to read the blackboard above the cash register for more details. The interior has lots of natural lighting. It can get busy during peak lunch hours and you may have a hard time finding a seat, but it's definitely worth checking out! read more

I love it here! I have been refraining from getting a rewards card because I am worried that it will just egg me on...but I should probably just give in. My favorite smoothie is the banana nut made with peanut butter. It's not advertised but they have a snack size that is about $3...I think it's the perfect size. I love the lemon poppyseed bread that you get with your smoothie! I also really like the sandwiches, quinoa bowls, and salads. It's the type of food that makes you feel good after you've eaten it. I only had a smoothie, but it was GREAT. I wish there were more options for green smoothies, but I'm likely in the minority there. I see reviews that smoothies are expensive but they are whole food (Vitamix) smoothies. There is a lot of food in that cup - it gets quite pricey. I didn't mind paying $7 as it was actually a cheap lunch for me. Very fresh, filling and I felt good after drinking it. Seems like a gigantic contradiction to be promoting raw, healthy plant based living while totally shitting on our earth by using products that will still be in a landfill long after we're all gone. I wanted to ding them on the pricing, but I can't because honestly it's all fresh AND it's in downtown Birmingham. (The Tropical Smoothie Cafe down on Maple and Livernois might be $2.50 cheaper but that's pretty much Clawson so there you go.) Smoothies are excellent - the texture is spot-on, which can be tough for some places. Just don't get add-ons. Seriously. You will end up with a $10 smoothie. Take vitamins instead. You're welcome. I am hit-or-miss for juices, usually, since the price and the flavors both turn me off due to me being picky. Buying a juice is usually a gamble for me, since there is a 75% chance I will hate it. That said, I would buy stock in Herbal + Healing (Spinach + Cucumber + Apple + Basil + Mint + Lemon + Lime + Ginger). That stuff is AMAZING. When I went, I had the Honey Roasted Turkey sandwich. While good, I can't give it anything higher than I would give a generic turkey sandwich at Panera Bread. Turkey, L & T, avocado, and cheese with mayo (I had them go light on the mayo) is hardly revolutionary. I will say that the bread was pretty tasty, though. Customer service? Amazing. It was hard for me, as a first-timer, to understand the "rules" (e.g., grab your own juice from the cooler instead of ordering it), but they were all so kind. With the blenders going nonstop during lunch hour, I'm surprised they were able to hear anything, but they got my order right and were so polite while I was at the register. A previous reviewer had it spot-on - this is a place for Birmingham moms and their daughters clad head-to-toe in Lululemon. But the staff makes you feel welcome no matter what, and that's one of the most important things. read more

This is certainly a Birmingham staple. Although the line is usually out the door there are days I just gonna have my fix! Not only do they have the best fresh smoothies and juices but their food is amazing as well! Whenever I'm feeling under the weather I grab a "hot shot" which consist of cayenne pepper, lemon juice and ginger. It gives me a quick boost of energy and is quite tasty. Pretty freakin awesome - this place has a smorgasbord of nutritional options to choose from - protein shakes with wheg and supplements to boost the power of your workouts, etc. you can add from a list of specialized health and rejuvenation concoctions! There are the fresh organic fruit smoothies, veggie cleanses, and the list goes on and on....plus, for those with a sweet tooth, there are some desserty options you can chow downnon with less guilt afterwards as it is healthier than the standard cookie & cake type far you find in most eateries and restaurants - so indulge - I personally recommend anything vanilla whey, almond milk and peanut butter with so.e supplement shot.of choice for an extra boost...great organic sandwiches and other more solid food options in a deli like setting. I highly recommend next time you want some lighter, bealthier fare and are in Birmingham - check them out. The only drawback is there is not much room to sit down and hang out for a few while you eat or drink - and I don't think there was any wi-fi signal they made available either...do not quote me on that one though... read more

There are many positive elements about this place but there is still plenty that could be improved. So I give them 3 stars. I was in Waterford for a wedding and I was happy that this healthy smoothie and juice joint existed. I got a custom juice made with pineapple, orange, cucumber, spinach and cilantro. I asked for only a little cilantro but I think they put in too much. I also got an egg white breakfast wrap which was very delicious. I could choose which veggies went into the wrap which was really nice. My family members got the mango smoothie which was delicious and my boyfriend got a chicken wrap with mushrooms, broccoli and Swiss cheese. Overall the food tasted great! However, there are some things that could be done better for a place that comes off as "healthy." The juice and smoothies are only offered in one size - it was at least 20 ounces. I don't believe this to be a good portion size unless someone wants to make a meal out of their drink. I think smaller sizes, like 12 or 16 ounce cups, need to be offered. Also, I believe that an eatery with this "healthy" vibe Beyond is going for, needs to also be environmentally conscious and not only provide healthy options for the consumer, but also work towards keeping the earth healthy by limiting their carbon food print. The smoothies and juices were served in cups made of styrofoam which is probably one of least eco friendly materials for cups. I believe cups made with recyclable plastics are better. I also believe an emphasis on locally grown and/or organic produce and animal products is important as well. This is another area that Beyond is not participating (aside from jam and wheatgrass). I think with some improvement this place could be 5 stars in my book. read more
