Came here for a girls night birthday celebration and we had a wonderful time! It was excited to see the new restaurant in the Mad Hatter space. Space is a bit tight but redecorated nicely! We were in the upstairs space and did t see the new downstairs yet. Our server was the sweetest and our table loved her! At her recommendation, we started with the langos to share which we all devoured. For mains, we split the beet and burrata crispy Brussels sprout salad, rigatoni diavolo pasta, braised balsamic short rib, and spaghetti squash with sautéed vegetables. The short rib was definitely the clear favorite, followed by the pasta! We were all appropriately stuffed after this meal, and split a birthday dessert to end our night. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it because of the many gluten-free options, and it did not disappoint. The space is small but super cozy and very charming There's a main level and a lower level (I didn't get to see the downstairs area), but the vibe upstairs alone was enough to win me over. I especially loved the picture-framed TV (which didn't look like a TV) was such a unique touch. Our service was amazing from start to finish. Marcus, our server, was incredibly kind and attentive. He took my food allergies seriously and helped me find the perfect dish, which I really appreciated. My friend ordered the French Dip Smashburger and said it was incredible, especially with the dip sauce. The drinks were just as impressive. I had a refreshing cocktail with cilantro in it which was different, but surprisingly delightful. I will say the ambiance is quite good here with the sultry lighting and nuetral tones. My server was very polite and attending. Starting off to drink I got the vendita cocktail. I was explained it was kind of like a margarita and it can come spicy which I ordered it like that. It tasted watery and not spicy at all. So I was starting off a little underwhelmed. But to eat, I got the smash burger and it was really good. It came with fries and I asked for ranch. I tried the mushroom pasta as well as the Caesar salad with salmon added and it was all yummy. Recently visited Bell Bistro for the first time, and I liked the overall vibe and the foot, but the service could've been better. I had the Bell's Smash Burger, which was delicious. The side of garlic parm fries really hit the spot, too. I tried two cocktails, Verdita and The Hamilton. I really liked the Verdita -- perfectly refreshing with a bit of spice. That said, our server took a loooong time to come back to the table after we weren't ready to order drinks right away, and then she dropped off the cocktails and basically ran away without taking our food order, even though we were ready. We had asked for split checks (just 2 of them!) and she forgot to do it, then we reminded her of it she seemed SUPER annoyed and left without saying anything. It was honestly a bit jarring -- I can't remember the last time I had a server seem that upset over something that small. And it's not like they were super busy... I'd say maybe 2/3 full, at most. I'd go back to try more of the food and cocktails, but I'd probably put it on my "don't visit" list if the service isn't much better next time. read more

I've tried soooo many menu items from here and top four are: the burger, hot honey chicken (before the changed the recipe- it now tastes like an Asian inspired dish :( - the seasonal trout and the absolute BEST thing they have, is the Caesar salad! Lovely little bistro in the downtown area of Birmingham on Old Woodward, Bell Bistro was a fun stop for a nice HH. The Happy Hour menu has some great options, giving a great glimpse of staple menu items especially the smash burger and fries (which was delicious) - service was attentive but not overbearing, our server was great with identifying when drinks were low but not hovering. Plenty of great menu options to try from, and was surprisingly quiet for a great HH - but I loved the food and the atmosphere so will definitely be back again soon! read more

This is a really nice, cozy restaurant with great food and service. It was our first time here and the room is small but comfortable. Seating is close to others but surprisingly not intrusive. Our waitress was so nice and did an awesome job. But the food was the star. First of all the menu had so many intriguing options. We had the buttermilk chicken appetizer which had hot honey sauce and was delicious. We then had the burger and the sausage/mushroom pasta. Both were excellent but we both agreed the burger was the best we've had in a long time. We are in town visiting family and looked for a restaurant that had good food but a fun trendy atmosphere and decided on Bell's. Unfortunately, it was not our experience. We were taken to the basement where no one else was seated the entire night. There were two tables of two when we got there open and when we left which could have been brought together. The food was ok and the waiter tried to make up for our basement seating but you don't go to a restaurant to sit in an empty basement. We would have rather waited or been told it was basement seating... and yes we had reservations. read more

First time here. We had the Langos to start. It was nothing short of delicious! Fried dough, seasoned sour cream, feta cheese, garlic oil.... Wowwwww Next, Caesar Salad. Totally on point! First time having sun-dried tomatoes in my Caesar and ummm great addition! Next I had the Zip Smash Burger. That zip sauce and the pickles onions made the entire burger! So good. He had the Rigatoni and granted it was a small portion but he said it was great. We went here for my boyfriend's birthday which the waiter knew cause I said it to him. I kinda expected a candle in the tiramisu we ordered but nothing ‍ The table next to us mentioned that it was her birthday and when her tiramisu came out, she had a candle ‍ Either way the food was great! It's a solid addition to the area, but nothing that really wowed me. I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken -- it was fresh, and the chicken was cooked well, but overall pretty standard. I also had a side of fries. They were good, but nothing special -- just your usual fries without much to set them apart. I was really excited to try this place after a few foodie Instagram posted about it. My fiancé and I checked it out early on New Years Eve. We were sat promptly as the restaurant was fairly open at 530pm. Our service was great and felt very attended to. I would genuinely rate my experience as a 3.5 stars out of 5 based on the food. The menu is bare bones. There's a few apps, 3 salads, 3 pastas and about 5 entrees. Based on the servers recommendations we went with the Campanelle pasta. This pasta was extremely disappointing. There's truffle tasted so fake, and the pasta tasted like a chef boyardee can. We also chose Mediterranean shrimp and chicken. This plate was pretty average at best. The 3 big pieces of shrimp were ok, but there was little to zero chicken in the dish besides a few tiny pieces in the rice/veggie mix. The rice was clumpy and there was little to no flavor. The food came out VERY fast which is usually a good thing but seemed as though it was more of a lack of quality that made it fast. The bright spot was the cocktails and music. Both were very good. I would come back to sip a cocktail and sit at the bar but would not come back for dinner. One additional note.. all of the Instagram posts had the frame TVs on. We showed up for dinner and none of the TVs were on even with bowl games on New Years Eve on. Disappointing! read more

I came in with a client. I had a reservation. I was given a choice of the bar or downstairs. I chose downstairs because I didn't want to sit at the bar. Unfortunately downstairs meant being forgotten about. The server came down asked about drinks. My client wanted ice tea. The server was uber confused about what this was. I said we would have still water. It was a solid 20 minutes before she brought the water. A few minutes after that she brought the tea assortment...for hot tea. She offered to bring a cup of ice. Anyway, she admitted she didn't really understand what iced tea was. Next I ordered appetizers both were flavorful. Again a good while passed before the runner brought them. Eventually server showed up so that we could order our meals. I ordered Creole Comfort - lightly spiced with tasty andouille sausage (no noticeable onions or bell peppers so that was a win) and my client ordered the Bell's smash burger and again a runner brought them. First time to the new spot in downtown Birmingham with two other couples. We were seated a bit late waiting for other guests to depart from our table. No big deal. The place has a nice vibe totally different from the prior place. We ate on the main level. They still have the lower level for dining. I was disappointed when I looked at the menu as it had changed since even the day prior. I had been looking forward to the steak frites all week but, alas, it was gone replaced by a filet. I opted for the creole comfort instead which was very good with just the right amount of heat. My wife enjoyed her smash burger which was cooked a bit much for her liking but said it was still very juicy. Note to chef, ease up on the salt on the fries which were otherwise solid. Others on the group had pasta which everyone enjoyed. Several of us had a Caesar which was excellent and huge easily enough to be shared. Prices are reasonable particularly for Birmingham. One minor gripe....no bread service even for purchase unless I missed it. The room is very loud so keep that in mind if that bothers you. We dined here for the first time this weekend. We have been on a mission to try more restaurants in Birmingham as opposed to going into our usual favorite spots. Even though we had reservations, we decided to take the two open seats at the bar and that was a good choice as we enjoyed talking to fellow patrons and watching the hard-working bartenders make Endless various martinis. We ordered the meatball appetizer and it was amazing. I had the mushroom pasta and my husband had the butternut squash entrée. Both were delicious. Although we are very frequent diners of 6 restaurant's in Birmingham this was our first visit to Bell. Loved the vibe it had and the size of it. We've never been big fans of super large restaurant's. The only negative was it very loud in the place and was difficult to talk but the Manager told us that they are definitely going to fix that soon! The food was outstanding. Two of us ordered the smash burgers, they had 2 different ones, and they were Both amazing! In addition we ordered the Golden crispy shrimp. The flavors and presentation were spot on. The space itself is small/cozy but also bright and welcoming. The noise was a bit on the high side for good conversation. Most importantly, the service felt rushed. We weren't half way through our starter before the waiter came to ask about mains. We were still eating the starter when the mains came out. Can't imagine trying to eat here if they have other customers. Food was average at best (hamburger, skillet hash, chicken tenders for the kiddo). Mezcal themed Bloody Mary was good.
