This place is super cute and trendy. The food is delicious but I can see that if you go at an extremely busy time that it can feel extremely claustrophobic inside of the place. It feels very cut off and not an open layout at all. The drink menu was pretty unique and delicious. I had the salmon and my friend got a steak with the potato which was one of the best baked potato's I have had in a long time if not ever. The appetizer we split was spinach dip and it was so good however, they could include more crisps as we had to order more for the dip which was an up charge another thing to note (even though I did not get the item) it was refreshing to see that the menu stated the salad dressings were seed oil free which can be make it or break it for some people. read more

Been to social a few times over the years mostly dinner and happy hour. Today was brunch for a friends birthday. Some dishes were hit and miss. I had a breakfast sandwich it was good the side salad on the plate was not needed and would of been better with a fruit cup. Kale salads were hit and miss with too salty and salmon overcooked. Popped into Social to have an appetizer and drink after making a candle at Urban Wick and wait for it to cure. The space is super cute, modern and fresh. They had a consistent flow of people coming. I sat at the bar and Dylan was my bartender. He was super cool and friendly. I ordered some parm fries and the Lychee Love martini and it was delicious! Not too sweet or two tart. We got the impression that since the table was already set they didn't want to redo it. My salad kale was pretty good and the salmon was done to my specifications. Popped in for a late morning brunch and had a great time. The weather was wonderful, the rooftop patio had a great playlist and the service was awesome. I had a delicious aperol spritz (which they suggested adding some gin to, which I loved) and the breakfast sandwich with a side salad. When I emohaothese customizations they honor it and it tastes pretty good and this is why I keep coming back. Chicken is crispy yet not overly so. Lentils is sour but that's cool. I stopped by Social again as I've enjoyed their Christmas decorations over the years and it helps put you in the spirit. Marc C., the bartender, was informative and kind. I even witnessed him take the time to write out a quick punch recipe for another customer who asked him for a recommendation as she was hosting tomorrow for Thanksgiving. I really enjoy their warm chicken salad sandwich that apparently has made a return to the weekend menu after a long haitus unfortunately. Since today is a Wednesday, I tried a French dip for lunch which was delicious on a cold day. Great atmosphere during the holidays especially and please consider trying if you're out shopping in Birmingham as the small charming towns need the love too. read more

For entrees, we had the turkey burger and the croque madame. Both were just okay unfortunately, they were a bit too salty for my taste. Attended Social Birmingham's pink event recently -- it was supposed to be on the rooftop but had to be moved inside due to the weather. They didn't miss a beat, though, with cute pink decor and a flower wall that made for the perfect backdrop. I ordered the Pretty in Pink drink (their version of a French 75) -- it came with pink cotton candy and was deliciously strong! The spinach dip was so flavorful and well-seasoned, definitely a standout. Service was excellent all night, and I'd absolutely recommend this spot! read more

This is such a great spot. Very interesting menu to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters or the most keen palates. Service is always extremely helpful and have excellent recommendations in case you can't decide what you want to eat which in this case is a great problem to have. My personal favorite are the Brussels sprouts and if you don't like Brussels sprouts please give them a shot. I find myself craving these bad boys every once in a while. Wowza, what has happened to this once iconic restaurant in a prime downtown Birmingham location? We dined on Christmas Eve, the restaurant was not super busy. The manager greeted us warmly but then asked us to sit in an awkward way so as to make it easy for his servers to get through. He offered us an appetizer for our trouble and said one of the bartenders was going to take great care of us. The bartender came over and started barking at us in the most obnoxious way. I think he thought he was funny; he wasn't funny, he was just obnoxious. That bartender isn't doing Social Kitchen any favors. My husband ordered the Call Me Old Fashioned with brown butter washed single barrel bourbon and the bartender barked at him (again!) NO, you can't have that. Why we asked, he said they're out of the brown butter washed bourbon. Ok, take it off the menu! The manager, with one of his stories that evening told us how he prescribed to the saying: the answer is yes, what is the question. Clearly, that's not how Social Kitchen actually operates, though. The answer from the grovely, cantankerous bartender was a hard NO. And no mention of a drink or an option that would be a good replacement, just NO. Moving on...we ordered the French Dip sandwich to share and asked for no horseradish, I mentioned that horseradish is an allergy for me, to which grovely, cantankerous bartender went into great detail over how the kitchen would have to take extra precautions due to the allergy. Yeah, bartender, that's what they should do when there's an allergy; I would expect nothing less. We ordered the appetizer, which was supposed to be comped, the focaccia bread with the truffle honey on the side. You see, most truffle flavoring is fake and is made with... horseradish. Not saying there's is fake, just saying things weren't shaping up so well where I thought I could trust that it was actually truffle honey or that they even know that truffle flavoring is often made up of horseradish. Gravely, cantankerous bartender was annoyed at that request. The bread was tasty, there are some cheeses baked inside, but it, of course, was not comped and we had to deal with that after being charged, along with the wrong price for the fries. The French dip sandwich arrived, no fries, with the salad, so we even though we told grovely, cantankerous bartender that we were sharing the two items, he put both in as entrees, leaving us with a sandwich getting cold while we worked through the salad. The beef on the French dip sandwich was tough and very large pieces. The premise of the French dip sandwich is that you're not using a knife and fork to eat; it's a sandwich with a dipping au jus. It should never have tough beef-- how do you eat tough beef in a sandwich? We each left half of our halves. No one bothered to ask how the food was, not even grovely, cantankerous bartender, even though he had a lot of nonsense to say whenever he came to our table. So the bill was wrong and we had to engage again to get that adjusted. Such an awkward, weird dining experience all the way around. With all that said, this isn't our first foray into the world of Peas and Carrots hospitality. We've been dining at Social Kitchen since they opened years ago. As time has gone on, parents have aged, our kids have left for college and post college lives, so we've seen this place at its heyday and we've watched the decline (as they morphed from Social Kitchen to just Social). They've brought in a new manager, he says he's 6 months in, but they've lost or lack everything that gave Social Kitchen its original buzz. It's just a restaurant on Maple now. It feels a little dirty & disheveled. Grovely, cantankerous bartender did not, in fact, give us a great service. He was stretched & rude. And in the end, no one really cared if we had great service or great food. read more

We both got the Middle Eastern themed dishes and my chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We did ask the appetizers to be brought out first though and they brought out entrees literally two minutes later, which is kind of frustrating when you want to enjoy your appetizers. Beware of discriminating seating area in this restaurant. Last Sunday we had dinner here. The restaurant was half empty at 4:30 and since the beginning I asked the host to be seated at the main dinning area, no outside because it's always colder. He said that he had those tables already reserved so I told him we had a reservation 30 minutes later anyway, we just arrived earlier so one of those reserved tables was ours. Anyway he tried to persuade us to sit out but it was almost empty, just one couple was there. We refused to sit there and until my husband suggested to leave and eat somewhere else the hostess reluctantly assigned us one of the indoor tables. We then realized inside were even families like ours even with little kids. We were 3 adults and one teenager. It was not a Friday or Saturday night vibe we were killing. Later I observed two things: None of the indoor empty tables was taken by any reservation during our stay of almost 1.5 hours and mainly, 2 more tables assigned outside were for the only black/brown people who arrived after us plus the one occupied when we arrived. I don't think this was a coincidence unfortunately. About the food is a 2 star. Not worth the price for that food. Our server was great at least Needless to say we're not going back. read more

My sisters and I recently had some drinks and snacks here one evening and it was a great experience! We sat at the bar and I have to say- the bartenders were seriously killing it all night! Awesome cocktail menu! The Truffle Fries are a MUST, and the Spinach & Artichoke Dip was a classic solid choice. I'd love to come back for a date night and try some of their salads and dinner selections. When we stopped in, it was busy for a weekday, but I wouldn't expect anything less for downtown Birmingham in the Summer. TLDR : I coudn't even try the food to write a review as it was over an hour wait needed with a half full restaurant. If you have plans for after brunch and you're deadset on coming here, cancel your plans and expect to sit for a while. Good luck! Social has been on top of my brunch lists for quite some time as it has been recommended by multiple people time and time again. I'm here to tell you, that Social Kitchen & Bar did not come close to meeting my standard at all...it actually set a standard for me of what not to accept when going out to eat. For starters, we came to Social at a reasonable time, post Sunday Church Brunch hours, and were met with a very nice greeting from the hostess. Once seated, we were met by our server, who we believe had many other tables both on the main floor but also on the upper level. We were greeted by her and then did not see her for ~15-20 mins to give us waters and explain the menu. After another 15 mins went by, she returned, took our orders and left. This is where the already mediocre experience became a downhill. Our sever was gone for over 45mins, the food never arrived, and once two skillets were presented in our face, they were quickly removed and placed on another table with the server saying "whoopsie, that's not for you, haha." After another 10 mins, we made a deal that if the food did not arrive within 8 mins, we would have left. Low and behold, the food arrived. Please brace yoursevles for this. We, as a party of 3, ordered : 1. Salad with Seared Chicken 2. Skillet with Chicken (x2) The salad came out and the chicken was cold. Once asked about the cold chicken, we received attitude to "hand it over" and then the person who did so took it and left. Upon inspection of our skillets, we were utterly shocked. Both skillets with Chicken did not have the protein and the food was not warm. The picture attached to this review is also here to show the $3 addition of having the avocado added, this is only a sliver of what was expected. After all of this, I'll leave it with this : Unless you have nothing else going on that day, or you want to waste a lot of time instead of being home, please go to Social. Social kitchen is a great spot to meet friends for a chill meal! The service is fantastic, and throughout your visit you'll feel like you're a VIP. I also really appreciate that you can make reservations through OpenTable! That made our experience much simpler and was a nice touch. Lots of indoor seating and there's plenty of different table configurations to accommodate your party. The menu is streamlined and simple, and I don't think it's a bridge too far to say it's almost lacking in options... I'd like to see a few more entrees in the mix, but my experience was colored by the fact that they had a few items pulled off the menu during my visit. The food itself is fantastic, and generally you get a good value for your money! Parking in Downtown Birmingham is a bit of a pain (though no fault of Social Kitchen), so if you're stopping by, make sure to be intentional with your time -- those 1 hour meters can be tight to fit a full meal into! I've been here multiple times throughout the years and every time I've come here has been a wonderful experience. The staff is always so knowledgeable and friendly, the food is always so good. I love coming here and it is my default go-to whenever my friends and I are meeting up in Birmingham for a hang! Brunch, lunch, or dinner, you can't go wrong! They also have a lovely heated patio area on the first floor, great for all year round, and a rooftop patio as well that is nice on good weather days. Depending on what time you plan to come here, I'd recommend making a reservation beforehand as this is definitely a popular spot that gets busy, but they do take walk-ins and you can always sit at the bar as well. If you're looking for a new brunch spot to try with good food and drinks i recommend social. We wanted to sit on the patio but it was really chilly so I'll definitely be back to check out the patio. We had reservations but we still had to wait about 10 minutes. Also parking is around the corner which is only $2. Our service was subpar but the quality of drinks and food made up for it.
