My project involved many facets of…read moreimprovement to the appearance of my home and it's surroundings beginning with the removal and replacement of a thick, old cement and gravel patio which was replaced by beautifully crafted travertine tiles. Off the patio are gravel wings topped by tasteful stepping stones which conceal catch basins and drainage pipe to the street. The bushes along the entire front of the home were removed and replaced by new beds of assorted plants and landscaping rock. The new bushes are large, full and healthy looking, not your typical teacup sized fare commonly seen in new landscaping projects. Thick rock and gravel walkways along these areas were removed and new ones laid with stepping stones to the driveway. The job was embellished with many extras, mulch placed in extra areas, sod put down where grass was sparse, minor woodworking adjustments... I've gone into this detail to outline the project blueprint and the obvious experience the owner, Ernesto, possesses to pull it all together and I'm not particularly easy to work with or impress. The assigned crew had an extremely strong work ethic and pride in themselves and one another. The same folks came every day for the entire project and are marvelously in sync with one another. They were helpful and good natured, always willing to explain a task or process, each one a delight. They came one last time today to fine tune the job and move things back into place. Again, above and beyond is the best way to describe each person's performance. They earned a monetary token of appreciation and truth be known, their worth and the outcome of their work would easily merit three times the amount. This was a good experience and the price of it was fair. If the boss says it'll be done, it's done and we all know that's usually not the case.

They treat every project as if it were their most special project, with great attention to detail, professionalism, and care. Our pool project was no exception. We originally weren't planning to do the patio extension, but they showed us how much it would improve the space. Now, besides the pool itself, it is our favorite part of the backyard! BEWARE! We had them come out to do our back patio in 2021. They ignored all things we told them,…read morepicked differing color stones instead of the one color we told them to use, used a white sand in between instead of a dark one that we asked for and paid for, and then they left a 4" gap in some area that they just put the sand in...which washed away after the first storm. We called and called and they took over a month to come back out and fix all the crap they did. Fast forward 2 years and our entire patio is wavy... had new company come out and they said that the last people who laid our patio not only cut corners and only put a 2" sand base, but that the patio wouldn't have lasted 5 years. They built it to where water puddles at our back door instead of running off to our driveway. AWEFUL customer service, the main guy told us to "fill in the sand ourselves" instead of having his men come back fix the areas that they flat out didn't do. Unbelievable. He cannot be trusted and his work product won't last more than a year at best.

I chose BDH because of positive past experience. This job included laying a flagstone patio with bender board edging, laying down stone garden edging and stone walking path. The team was on time, professional and diligent workers. I highly recommend BDH for the garden edging--lovely job. I was not present for the job but did have facetime views via my brother who was at my house in my absence. In hind site, I should have been present to monitor and inspect the work. I do not recommend BDH landscaping if you are hoping for a flagstone patio or stone pathway seen in BDH gallery photos or photos on the web in general. While my impression is that these workers did the best they could, I think the reason the overall look of the patio and flagstoned areas do not live up to the photos I see on line is most likely due to an inability for me to have a meaningful conversation with the two key BDH men (the owner Brad and chief guy Joel) most savy in how to achieve a particular look. One on one face to face conversation with either Joel or Brad prior to confirming the job would most likely have helped me understand the pros and cons of using bender board edging around patio. At this point, seeing the weakness of the bender board to hold secure in less than 7 days since the job was done, I strongly do not recommend using bender board as an edging method for a flagstone patio. BDH owner was effectively available by text or email and of course this really is not adequate for a job that ended up costing $10k-$11k. This amount does not cover the money I will spend on sprinkler head repair. I sincerely, hope the owner lives up to his promise of returning the week of July 11th to secure the bender board edging around the patio. Within less than one week at least two areas of bender board edging came unbound from stone patio creating tripping hazard and crushed granite spilling into yard. The other significant problem area was that a walking path stone was laid exactly over a visible sprinkler head. I will provide an update to this review pending BDH Landscaping owner, Brad, promise to secure bender board in a safe and longer lasting way the week of July 11, 2022.

Once we decided to choose this company, there was a disconnect in communication between the secretary and Hector. When Hector's staff arrived to begin the project, he was confused about what exactly our vision was despite me sharing the inspiration pictures with her. Despite the setbacks, his staff did a wonderful job. They are hardworking. They removed our old patio and built a new one, replaced the sod, added rocks around the perimeter, and added pavers to form a walkway. I'd recommend Hector's Landscaping.
