TAKES PRIDE IN WORKING WITHOUT A CITY PERMIT. That should tell you all you need to know about his integrity and competence. EXPERTS INSPECTING HIS WORK? I don't think so! Are permits a pain? Absolutely but they are there to protect consumers and make sure some shyster doesn't do a half-ass job that isn't, and will never be, up to code EVER! Won't tell you which brands he uses and goes on and on about "so much work for my Mexicans". I guess that's how he thinks you're going to fall for estimates that are wy beyond the realm of possibility. Thinks he's so much smarter than everyone else that they won't question his methods or price or obvious racism. NEVER EVER LISTENS. You might as well be talking to a fence. Insists on showing you landscaping of over $50,000 when you've already explained the house is listed and you'll never recover your inflated costs. Even wanted to talk to listing agent. Now, ask yourself why he works without required permits? That's actually easy to guess! SO NO PERSON WITH KNOWLEDGE INSPECTS HIS WORK, either EVER or when it's too late and you're responsible for the lack of permit. Who would hire such a person? People who don't know how unscrupulous he is, don't read reviews or get several estimates. Do all or at least one of these and you won't hire him either. read more

We've used Blalock for several projects. Pretty amazing when they dig a drainage line and put the sod back to make it appear the ground was not disturbed. The crews have been excellent and respectful. In case the project doesn't turn out exactly to your expectations, they fix it, no questions asked. read more

Johnny came out and went over in detail all our options and what could be done in stages if we didn't want to do all the work at once. We really liked his knowledge and honesty and went ahead and had the drainage work done. It took a while to get them to come out due to weather and their availability but the work done was great. The guys that came out worked from morning to afternoon for days. I don't think they even spoke to each other bc they were working so hard. In the end the work done looks great and we can't wait to test it out. During the work the yard was a mess but the clean up was well done and it's hard to tell we had our yard dug up at all. Ashley was always great at communication with us and that was well appreciated. He and his team installed a complicated, extensive drainage system to impede/capture water coming from a neighboring home. He went above and beyond to ensure that I was happy along every step of the process. I am a very detail oriented person, so, he had his hands full. He certainly has patience. His lead guy (Jesus) has been with him a few decades and he is excellent. If I had to do it over again, I would use him. So, I've waited about a year to write a review. All I can do is repeat what others have said. Johnny and Ashley did the most professional job we could have asked for. This has been an extremely wet year and between the great gutter system and the fantastic drainage system, our yard has not had any pooled or standing water whatsoever. Everything, including the gutters, runs straight into the drainage system and goes directly to the street drainage system. The cost was extremely reasonable and besides the drain grates, you cannot even tell there is a drainage system. Even immediately after the job, all the sod was cleanly replaced and the yard looked great. In short, if you need any draining work done, don't even bother looking elsewhere. read more

Now that things have settled down a bit after Harvey, I wanted to take a minute to thank Johnny, Ashley, and the whole team at Blalock Landscaping and Drainage for the work they did at my home. We stayed dry, not a bit of water in the house, completely due to the new drainage system they installed last year. I live in a flood prone area near Braes Bayou, and without the drainage system, my backyard would have flooded last week, with water pouring into the house. Had some drainage issues with the front of our home and eventually water ended up backing into the house and damaging some sheetrock. Decided to have some drainage put in and have the front landscaping shaped up. Blalock came in and were very thorough and detailed about what the real problems were and what really needed to be fixed vs the other quotes we were given. My husband had questions about the quote and rather than trying to explain it over the phone they actually came back out and walked him through what the proposal was. Very patient and detailed. Made us very confident in going with Blalock to do the work. They pulled the flower beds back in front of the house about 24"and lowered the ground in front of the house, behind the flower beds then installed drains, tapped down the soild and covered it with crushed granite (looks amazing!) and then piping from the drains across the front yard leading out to the street (can hardly tell the dug a deep trench). Nothing negative to say. The cost was not the least expensive nor was it the most expensive. The value was in their experience, patience and professional attitude. As soon as the work was completed we were contacted by Blalock and asked if anything was amiss or if there was anything else they could help with. Excellent followup. Now just need some rain! Will be using their services again in the fall to take care of backyard drainage and flowerbeds. read more

Blalock fixed a bunch of drainage issues occurring in the small rear yard of my townhome. They did a fantastic job (neat and clean and professional). Work included (a) addition of storm drain and new elevation of part of back yard, (b) replaced flex pipe with real pvc pipe from existing downspout, (c) new pvc pipe at curb to help water flow, (d) new 6" gutter on roof (replaced smaller 4") and added 2nd downspout to pull water off roof faster and prevent water from spilling off gutters in strong storms. I am very pleased with the results (all this rain lets me test it!). Work was expensive: more than $7k, so that is why 4 vs 5 stars. But the reality is the cost of a possible flood of my first floor would mean expenses in excess of $7k.. read more

04/20/2016 The owner, the foreman and the crew were all wonderful. They were punctual, very professional and very meticulous in their work. The owner worked with my ideas and offered great suggestions. The crew of five worked steadily for about 5 1/2 hours and took a short lunch break. They were willing to do anything asked of them and cleaned up spotlessly. The grass where the drain was installed should grow back without any problems; in fact, it's hard to tell where they did their work. And the drain under the sidewalk that goes into the street looks great and blends with the old concrete. The concrete looks like it will stay intact and not break like so many others in my neighborhood. I would whole heartedly recommend Blalock for your landscaping and drainage work. In fact, I plan to have them back next spring to "spruce up" my beds. I'd be willing to put up a yard sign advertising their work if they asked. Description of work: 1. We thought that we needed a drainage system for the side of the house, since we had stagnant water there all the time, ever since we had bought the house 6 months prior. We had 3 drainage experts come over and give us quotes before Johnny Blalock come out to give us a quote. He was the ONLY expert that identified that we didn't have a drainage issue- but that there was a water leak in the neighbors sprinkler systems' PVB back flow preventer (I didn't know anything about this stuff before he came). I was SO impressed with him right off the bat- that he was able to identify the true issue when the 3 other specialists had missed it completely (or rather they just wanted to get hired to install an expensive drainage system that would have cost thousands). Johnny went to the neighbors backyard and sure enough, he was right about the leak- the PVB was completely unstable and so we were able to turn it off and I then contacted the neighbors. I was so impressed with how knowledgable and HONEST he was. He told me that it would have cost around $3,000 to install a drainage system, and that wouldn't have addressed the real issue, since all the stagnant water was due to a leak. I definitely plan to hire him in the future if we do need a drainage or gutter system, purely based on the fact that I could 100% trust him to be honest.
