I've hired S&D for major system repair in 3 separate homes now, one of which is a mid-19th C historic landmark. In the first, a 1960s ranchhouse, they successfully repaired multiple broken cast iron sections beneath the slab, requiring 2 tunnels for several weeks and complex work around the beams. If you have ever had this sort of tunneling then you understand how painful it can be no matter who is doing the work. We were living there at the time (I even work from home), throughout the drilling. Juan led most of the work. My wife and I both interacted with him daily to coordinate so many moving pieces, and he was outstanding. What you need to know is that when the dust cleared we were so pleased with our experience and interactions with Juan, and S&D generally, that we hired them again for two more homes. The second, a 1940s bungalow rental, we had a small task list but it included 8 feet of broken cast iron in the crawlspace and a full replacement of the shower inlets behind the tile. The third historic home, originally built c.1860, has 6 different foundations and a patchwork of systems hitched together over the past 150 years. S&D navigated in, under, and around both homes through the hottest months, while we moved into the older home.... It was significantly disruptive work, including trenching and demolition, and I just can't speak highly enough for the professionalism and *obvious* sincere care they showed for my family. This sentiment extends from all the onsite staff (I met many) to everyone in the front office -- props to Michelle and Amanda -- and ultimately the GM Dan. Matt led the work across these two homes. Matt is The Man. He provided a full diagnostic of the entire property water & gas systems, 100 feet of galvanized line replacement, reinsulation, gas line repair, shower pan, storm drain hydrojetting, and an extensive punchlist covering two kitchens, 4 bathrooms, and additional wastewater line repair. I'm likely forgetting something. The historic home had some really old, complex problems to solve, and Matt seems to genuinely enjoy this stuff. We worked through most of it together, and he was an excellent, knowledgeable, and good-humored guide. Without fail for so many weeks he remained calm, polite, and highly responsive to both phone and text when needed. My wife and I are doing most of the GC work on the home, and he and Michelle were extremely flexible with our scheduling needs around other contractors. If I need major work in the future, I will ask for Matt to lead it. It's hard to describe just how challenging our plumbing issues have been this year, but the bottom line is I got some deep insight into S&D, especially through Matt. They had a huge number of chances to screw up somewhere. I can think of 3 true issues/complaints I had with their work, and each time they addressed it immediately, successfully, and with great care. They pride themselves as a service company, which means their business model is really focused on clients, not "customers." That's a big important difference, especially on major jobs. They think they are successful not just if the pipes work but also if the owner feels good about it. It may come at a slightly higher price point, as I've seen some reviewers say, but not always... and honestly it's possible that after so many months of major work, maybe I could have gotten the same quality end product from some other vendor for slightly less money. But I don't believe it's remotely possible I could have gotten through this summer with one company and received any better communication, coordination, general service, and peace of mind. read more

Commericial: We needed to get a new turn off valve at the office building I manage. I thought of S&D Plumbing after my personal experience on my house. We had other plumbers work at the building and they were slow, messed up the new sloan valve with the wrong wrench, slow to invoice to the point that you forgot what was done. We then met Matt Chaney of S & D Plumbing. . He is a military veteran-(I have my freedoms because of men like him), young, energetic, great work ethic, courteous, proficient and honest. When he arrives on the job he gets right to work. Estimates are given for each job with details of what will be done, then we schedule the work. The work is done, the job site is cleaned up and left as it is found. He then gives us a full detail of what was done, from size of pipe used, size of ball valve, replaced or repaired on the invoice so we have a reference. He has now replaced old cast iron pipe in the wall of an office, put in a new ball valve next to a new water meter where it was difficult to get to and made the new valve easier to turn off- location wise, replaced sloan valves at urinals without scratching the metal while working with it, and changed out 3 hose bibs to wiz key hose bibs to keep others from using our water. The latest job he did for us was the nastiest--unclogged two toilets. He flushed them prepared to deal with the outcome and noticed one of them was leaking at the base, he had to remove the toilet, clear the clog, ran a camera down the cast iron drain to let us know what was going on since this clogged before, and reset the toilet. He kept the doors closed and we posted signs so no one would enter while he worked. He recommended hydrojetting this toilet drain due to debris build up. He wasted no time in getting the restrooms back in working order for our office tenants. By the way, all the jobs but the last one he had a team member working with him that was equally important to getting the job done to my satisfaction. To work at an office building and turn off the water to the building can disrupt your tenants business so they worked with us on Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. to minimize the disruption. The water would be off for about 2 hours. Once the water was turned back on they tested all the lines and made sure there were no leaks. They then made sure I was pleased with the work and we finalized on the detailed invoice. I have asked for Matt Chaney each time I have had work done and will continue to work with S & D plumbing because of the great team they have. I like to build a good relationship with my vendors. I hired S & D plumbing a week ago and scheduled a service call to pull my Toilet and fix a wax ring. I asked them numerous times on the phone about a quote for this service and they told me there was no way to give me one due to it being a part of the service call to get me an estimate. I accepted that (there were lots of good reviews for the company) and scheduled the appointment for Monday between 2pm and 6pm. The morning of the appointment I got a call asking if I would like to reschedule for earlier in the day. I kindly said I wouldn't because I had a doctor's appointment and wasn't sure I would be around in the window. They told me this was fine and that I would see them between 2pm and 6pm. At 11am I got a call that the technician was on the way. I was shocked because I had explicitly stated I was not interested in an earlier call. I called and asked them what had happened and I was told that dispatch had completely disregarded my request and sent the technician early regardless. They told me he was less than 10 minutes away and would be able to get the job done before I had to go to the doctor. Upon arriving, my technician took one look at what I needed done and told me it would be $300 (including the discount from the coupon on their website) for pulling the toilet and replacing the wax ring that I had provided for them. I was shocked at this hefty cost for a relatively simple job and was told this was their standard fee for this job. A fact that customer support should have been able to tell me when I scheduled the job. I accepted it. I needed the job done. I provided a wax ring and was told it would be done quickly. To the technician's credit, it was. In and out in under 30 minutes. With the wax ring I provided still on the counter. So when all things considered I paid $300 (an outrageous price for the simple job) for this company to disregard my request for when a technician should arrive, gouge me for a job that should have been at a vastly lower price point, and then not even use the supplies I provided that I had faith in and use a product that I believe to have been lower quality even after explicitly stating they should do otherwise. In short: Hire Local, because S&D does not care. read more

i had no hot water at my kitchen sink and dishwasher. i saw S & D ads online, trusting on it i called them to repair. They sent Jason and Tyler to my house. After about 3 minute diagnose, they said : " we can take care of the issue for you "and they told me the cost to repair was $217.I agreed with that cost and they had me signed in their ipad ( without showing me the content of what i was signing for ) They told me my signature to authorize them to perform the work. Trusting on them , I signed it. What they did was just replacing the hot and cold water valves. after that they told me its done but the issue still remained . i still did not have hot water at my kitchen sink and my dish washer. At that moment, they told me that i need to replace my water heater tank and they gave me a quote for $1200 . I said : " why did you tell me at the begining . what did you change the 2 valves for ? if its because of the water heater, why i still have hot water at all of my restrooms ? ". Like the idiots and unprofessionally, they said : " we don't know why its weird like that... " They emailed me after that the receipt of my $217 which had my signature on that, in the receipt they put : " Customer called for the issue of low water pressure and replacing hot and cold valves .. suggested customer to replace water heater tank and PIV.." OMG !!! what a lier cheater . i did not call for low water pressure. i had a proof of what i called for i called in their office in the next day and reported the issue. Even they made wrong diagnose and could not repair , i still agreed to pay them $ 100 and told them to refund me the balance. Their office said will have the mechanic and manager call me back to fix issue but they never called back . After my several calls day by day, finally the manager called me back but he said he stood by his workers side and he ended up by hanging up on me. First, I must say that I have been a long time customer of S & D Plumbing. ALWAYS, I have been extremely pleased with the plumbing professionals who have come to my home and solved my plumbing needs AND the office professionals who take my initial calls (Shelby, Michelle and Amy) AND the company owners (Dan and Rhonda) with whom I have communicated (to sing the praises of specific employees). I jokingly told Dan today that I want to get a job with his company and thus be surrounded by such a special group of people on a daily basis! With me S & D Plumbing has stood the test of time! The above being said - yesterday, 21 year employee and plumber, Melvin came to my new home to do needed repairs and an overall Safety Inspection of the entire home's plumbing. Melvin has become my technician of choice over the years, because of his professional skills - how he correctly identifies and corrects the cause of specific problems in such an efficient manner. Yesterday was a similar experience. However, in addition to his wonderful technical skills he is so kind and pleasant in his explanation of various plumbing systems. Yesterday he taught me what I need to know about an alarm system on my attic located water heater. There was no problem here; he just called my attention to understanding it and what to do if it activated. This was not something I would have even known was there without Melvin calling my attention to it. As a person with very minimal knowledge of plumbing related things, I appreciate his kindness and thoroughness beyond words. Melvin is my plumbing HERO! Not to be omitted is his awareness of my cost for service. He approaches his work for me with a conservative financial eye - definitely does what is needed but explains what is not needed or simply done for cosmetic effect - and I choose what I want. I appreciate that so much. In summary, I have TOTAL TRUST in S & D PLUMBING and MELVIN in particular! Melvin is skilled, thorough, kind and trustworthy! I've used S&D Plumbing on two occasions, and both times they went above and beyond to fix my issue! I have a "troublesome" tub which has given me great grief over the past year. The plumbing configuration is awful, and requires us to pull out our bathroom vanity each time we have to access the pipes. On the first occasion that S&D plumbing visited my home, it was discovered that my drain pipe had disconnected to the tub. Unfortunately, our tub is cultured marble and was probably a custom job when it was made. The result was that the slope to the drain wasn't correct so it made it very hard to replace the drain and have it connect to the pipe. At one point, I had three workers from S&D plumbing in my bathroom trying to figure out a solution. At this point, they had already been at my home for several hours (they also replaced my faucets/knobs which is what added to the time). It was finally decided that they couldn't replace the drain because they would need a special part which would need to be ordered. They left, and I was disappointed knowing that I would not be able to use my tub for quite some time. Thirty minutes after they left, Dan (one of the owners) showed back up to my door (on a FRIDAY) with a part he found stashed in their inventory. Twenty minutes later my problem was fixed. The second time they came out was to replace the shower diverter which had snapped off. Unfortunately (again!) the handle required an authentic delta cartridge which had to be special ordered because it was uncommon. When they came out to finish the job, Ronnie worked diligently to get the diverter assembled and working correctly again. He even had to leave to go look at an assembly print because the cartridge did not come with a screw that would hold the assembly together. He returned soon after and finished the job. All of the staff that I have dealt with are very nice and courteous. They can be on the pricey side, but they do such good work that I don't mind paying it knowing that my issue will be repaired properly. read more

We called S&D Plumbing for help dealing with a leak in our yard. We received a notification call 25 minutes in advance confirming that it was still a good time for them to come out (which was very nice) and then Jason Radford arrived as promised. They even sent a photo of the technician so we would know who to expect, as well as a link to a "Truck Tracker" app so we could see exactly how far away the tech was. That was excellent!! Jason explained the potential costs upfront and then started digging. He quickly isolated the source of the leak which was unfortunately related to the sprinkler system which S&D does not currently handle. He still made sure to show me very clearly where the leak was and even shut the water to it so it doesn't continue leaking while we wait to get it repaired. He gave me the option of either leaving the work area exposed or refilling with dirt. Since we hope to get it addressed soon, I chose to leave the area exposed so he set up a caution tape barrier around the area for safety. Even with the hole, the area still looks tidy with dirt piled nicely on a plastic tarp and sod piled to the side to be reused. He then did a couple plumbing maintenance checks and made recommendations based on the results. He was friendly and polite and even covered his shoes with booties when he came into the house. I'm just disappointed this wasn't an issue that S&D could address because we know we can trust their work. We have been using S&D Plumbing since May 2016 and have been very happy with the service overall and the techs that have come out each time. I'm really hoping we don't have many plumbing issues pop up but it is nice to have a reliable and trustworthy company to call on should the need arise. read more

I selected S&D based and other Yelp reviews and was lucky to have Melvin assigned to my case. I am glad to add my praise to other reviewers and can attest to his professionalism, thoroughness, and courtesy. It was obvious I had a leak in my slab (water seeping up through the oak flooring), but Melvin efficiently determined that it was coming from the hot water line and that the leak was only present in a specific area between the kitchen and bath. He carefully explained the two options: 1) Jackhammer the slab and make a direct repair. Or 2) Redirect the supply through the wall and attic. Costs were about the same, both invasive, and had pros and cons, but now I can make an informed decision about how to proceed. Detailed estimates were emailed to me. Luckily, the leak is very slow (for now) and Melvin reminded me that I could stop it temporarily by simply turning off the hot water valve at the water heater. The charge for the initial diagnostic (pressure testing, electronically detecting the location of hidden pipes, etc.) was $350. Some people might think that is a high figure, but he was at my house for two hours, used specialized equipment, and used his extensive professional experience to ascertain my needs--and--and--he addressed a problem with my kitchen faucet as a bonus! A prudent and cost-aware home owner might get other opinions or estimates, but I say, "Why bother." I feel confident I am dealing with true professionals and that they will do good work and guarantee the results. I will be contacting them to undertake the full repair and will post a follow-up review once the major work is complete. read more

I have a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old who find it more exciting to throw their toys down the toilet than play with them. That and whole rolls of toilet paper. Really anything they can find! That is what led me to contacting S and D. Garrett was my technician and he was absolutely nothing short of amazing! First I should mention scheduling was a breeze. I sent a Yelp message and they got back to me almost immediately. They then reached out via Phone and set up for the next morning ( I was very happy they could get me in that soon). I called at about 4:30pm. It wasnt and emergency just more of an inconvenience. They sent me a photo via text and email of the technician so I would know a head of time who was coming to my home. He was here at 8am sharp and called me 30min ahead of time to tell me he was on the way. I have 2 dogs including a very grumpy 14 year old who wants to bark and follow any stranger around. Garrett was very kind and gracious about the whole situation! He was professional and went over all my pricing options ahead of time and explained what each option meant. My wife and I recently purchased a new home here in Taylor that we are remodeling / renovating and ran into a plumbing issue. sooo , I made a call to S&D Plumbing here in Taylor 2-rings and I get super positive and informative Makayla (at least I believe that was her name) who schedules us in for the following morning (super easy 1 phone call) The next morning bright and early I receive a text from S&D saying that Jason Radford the Pluming Expert is on the way (even had his picture included so we would know whom to look for and would be working with) WOW I thought that was cool and professional to say the least ! upon arrival Jason & Steve checked out the issue and let me know up front what was going on and what the charges would be. they quickly got to it and had everything up to par & even gave us a Plumbing inspection once over (at no charge) again nice and professional at completion they cleaned and left the place as it was (actually better than it was as I said we are remodeling) Great job Guys !! Beginning with the day I moved into my brand new home in 2003, I have had the same hot water issue. There was no water pressure when two hot water valves were opened. Over the 12 years I have called 4 plumbing companies to come out to try and evaluate the problem as well as several friends. Everyone had suggestions but no one could seem to correctly diagnosis the problem and / or have a solution. I was referred to S&D Plumbing and called them for an appointment. Jess came out to the house to see if he could correct my problem. From the moment Jess came over, he was very professional and polite. He listened to my explanation of the issue I was having and immediately got to work to try and fix it. He discovered the issue within 20 minutes and had it resolved. I was absolutely amazed. I am a repeat customer of S&D Plumbing, having initially used them when I remodeled my home and had all the bathroom and kitchen fixtures replaced by Mel, who came out last year and did a very good job. Consequently, I contacted S&D this year when I had a outdoor faucet leak, which I didn't notice until I received a $100 water bill (triple the norm). Initially Amy helped me set up an appointment that very same day (!), so Keith came out right away. He did a terrific job in fixing the faucet, plus he was able to explain to me why the problem had occurred. He then inspected all the plumbing fixtures inside and outside of my home. Also, Shelby had told me about the Customer Loyalty plan, so Keith was able to give me a substantial discount. The following day, Shelby called me from the office to check on my customer satisfaction. I was more than satisfied and told her just that. I called S&D for a second opinion. We had a shower that was not draining properly. The first plumber snaked it and couldn't get very far and decided we had a broken pipe. He said we had to remove the pipes, excavate the slab concrete foundation, and get city permits, with a $6-10K cost. He said, "I could run a camera but I don't see why. This is the problem." That got me thinking I needed a second opinion, especially after the company never got around to submitting an estimate to my insurance company. Working with S&D was the complete opposite experience. They have excellent customer service and got me an appointment the next day. Melvin came out and was very professional in explaining everything he would do. He was persistent and removed a very large mass of hair that resolved the blockage. He then ran a camera from the interior and exterior and determined there were no other issues with the pipes. The total cost was just over $300, which my home warranty insurance will cover. S&D saved us thousands of dollars and a big headache through their professionalism and commitment to the customer. So it turns out that when you buy a house that is old, plumbing has a tendency to stop working properly! I had several other plumbers that I spoke to first that just couldn't find the time to get back to me. Enters S&D Plumbing. I gave these guys a call, and turns out they are professionals! Not only did they out the day of but followed up with both emails and phone calls!! This is unheard of in the industry! Nobody gets a immediate response AND follow up calls. Truly a unicorn in the plumbing world! Matt C. is my project manager and has been incredible. He has overly communicated and answered every question very thoroughly. Are they the cheapest guys out there? Probably not, but do you want the cheapest guy working on your plumbing? That should never be your first qualifier. They were priced competitively, but more important they listened to me, brain stormed about the possible solutions, formulated and presented a plan then put it in play. If your having issues, call S&D Plumbing, ask for Matt C. (I'm partial, but I'm sure the rest of them are great as well) and enjoy great customer service on what can be a stressful home issue. read more

A huge water bill alerted us to a water leak that was somewhere on our property. We asked a very highly rated, excellent plumber to look into it, and he told us that it is necessary to have specialized equipment to detect it. Subsequently, I contacted S&D Plumbing based on proximity to our home, their excellent Yelp rating, and their specialization on leak detection. The scheduling specialist on the phone was very friendly and responsive, and making an appointment was easy. The technician, Melvin, was very polite, and patiently explained to me the methods he used to detect the water line in our front yard. In less than an hour, he found the leak which was about 5 feet below ground. The amount of physical effort necessary to dig to the pipe was large, but Melvin did it in short time. I then had to leave home for work. When my wife and I returned in the evening, everything was perfectly fixed and worked flawlessly. The price was, given the effort and time necessary to fix the leak, very reasonable. This is really the best possible service I can imagine. Melvin and S&D Plumbing get my strongest, most enthusiastic recommendation. read more

Great Service. They came in and, as I wanted hydrojet cleaning, solved my plumbing issue. They talked with me, used the camera, knew what they were talking about. Melvin was they guy, he know plumbing. The back story is that I have Radiant come out, and the guy didn't know what he was doing. Even after calling the "mother ship", they left me with three options, keep pounding and hope not to break the pipe, dig under the house, or jack hammer through the floor. Wel, at least when I called back to radiant, and told them how S&D had solved the issue, and I also dropped some of the knowledge I got from Melvin at S&D, radiant did fully refund my money. So Kudos to S&D for knowing what the hell they are doing, to the extent I was peacefully and calmly able to get my cash back from radiant based on using the discussion and information I learned from talking with Melvinn at S&D. Hydro jet is more expensive, but it can do a lot more. Thanks S&D, thanks Melving, and thanks for the great Christmas card with the discount sticker in it too. P.S. John and the crew at S&D are the best! They quoted me exactly the cost and were fair with the price. As well had many options for payment as we had the worst luck happen all at once. I greatly apologize but the two men who came yesterday were just as awesome. Thoughtful and caring. Started off great with our first vacation, a Caribbean cruise, but shortly after we had cat end up with 2 broken legs, costly surgery and followed by a slab leak in our foundation. Totally drained of savings we were stuck. Luckily we toughed it out long enough to get some funds together and have S&D come out, do the leak detection and estimate and for a reasonable cost rerouted the water line, not only saving the pocket book but saving our beautiful tile and foundation. We expected jackhammers into the foundation, drywall ripped to shreds etc. None of that. Just a straight, honest and workable deal. John was here the very next day after the first call bright and early, and he had us fixed in a matter of a few hours. I just moved to Austin, Texas leaving me unfamiliar with the credibility of any plumbing services in the area. So when I needed a plumber for installation, naturally, google made the decision of who to call. After online browsing for a reputable company all signs pointed towards S & D plumbing. So I gave them a call and ALL around- from the receptionist to the plumbers- I had a great experience, so I signed up for the membership for continued services. However, the first experience with S & D plumbing is not why I am taking valuable time out of my day to write this review. It was when I had another issue arise and I had two gentlemen named Keith and Jess come by to fix the problem. Keith and Jess not only fixed the problem, they took 15 minutes to explain WHY the problem happened. While you may think that "it's their job to do that", it was the genuine effort they put forth in fixing my problem, explaining it, and making sure I was all set for them to depart. These men both had the best customer service and all around skill set that has made me an S&D customer for the duration of my time in Austin. read more

I called S&D Plumbing about finding a water leak with standing water at the back of my house. Michael was the man sent out to check it out. He was very courteous and professional, and correctly diagnosed my problem as a sewer leak, not a water leak. He did not have the parts necessary to fix the problem, so he left and came back shortly with the items he needed. He was able then to fix the problem within a few minutes. The cost of the repair was more than I expected, but there is NO WAY I'm going to go down into that crawlspace! It was worth every nickel I spent. This is the second time I have dealt with S&D, and the second time I was very satisfied with the way the problem was handled. My only complaint is that I really requested to schedule the repair visit later in the day, around 10 am to 12 noon, because there is someone in this house that works late and is usually sleeping until about noon. However, Michael called at 7:30 am and woke that person. Hey, folks, 10 am is 10 am, not 7:30 am! That is the only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars to this review. read more
