I'm back again to extol the absolute virtues of Capital City Plumbing and Drain, y'all! We decided to order a new washer and dryer, and we chose the LG ThinQ AI washer/dryer pair because I absolutely love all things tech! So, Home Depot arrived today (a Saturday) to take away our old Electrolux machines and bring in our shiny new ones, and, upon uninstalling the oldies, they discovered that our water valves were both leaking. Thanks, 80s house! They said that they couldn't install the new ones because of the leaks, but that they would definitely be back to help once a plumber fixed the issue. They were very sweet, actually! So, they left and we were standing there bereft until hubby remembered Capital City Plumbing! Good call, said I, and I immediately went back to my original Yelp review because I remembered taking a picture of their card! I called them and left a message, and, I kid you not, they had somebody here within 15 minutes of the Home Depot delivery folks leaving! Today, I actually needed these guys for a tough drain in my kitchen that wouldnt unclog even though I tried to snake it with my $35 HomeDepot snake. The technician was friendly and knowledgeable, brought a powerful snake machine. He had to snake it twice, my line was very clogged and apparently full of grease from years of owning this house. We even thought he couldnt get it to drain, but he did after some efforts. He then recommended a further service of Hydrojet, which I may consider if we stay in the house. Extremely bad experience. They were called for some plumbing problem in my rental property in Austin, but the team had no idea what they were doing, yet they charged me over $600 for absolutely no result, and then asked for more money. They charge exorbitant rates for simple tasks, like changing a cartridge, which takes no more than 15 minutes. However when it's a bit more complex than opening a faucet aerator, they are completely clueless and ask me pay to pay the cost of their incompetence. To make matters worse, their customer service was terrible. I would not recommend them at all. I ended up hiring a different plumber to fix the issue, but still had to pay these guys $600 - And yet this still doesn't bother them, which proves all they want is collect money but don't care about the service they provide. Responding to their comment, - The approved charge was contingent to the success of your repair, but it was failure. - Yes I stopped your service because your next step didn't make any sense, and this was confirmed by the other plumber I hired, and multiple other plumbers I talked to. read more

We recently discovered we had a leak of over 60 gallons per hour and called capital city and a few others. They were the first one to respond and the only one who actually gave a price estimate when they responded. Mike came out and pressure tested our system and discovered the leak was on one of the cold lines. He and his helper searched for hours trying to figure out where the pipe enters my house from the meter and kept me informed throughout. They ended up finding the leak (which was not visible at all) and replaced the pipe which was super impressive since it ran under my driveway. First of all before I get into the story, like most of you yelpers, I like to see who has the best ratings and reviews. So it turns out this business was a perfect five star establishment, however, I also realized it can be quite deceptive (after the fact). For example, 76 of the 146 reviews were all done by people who wrote less than 10 reviews total. That suggests, they were most likely asked to leave a five star review. When more than half of your five star reviews come from such seldom users, that raises a red flag for me. Now let's get to the story and what transpired. On Thursday, we got a text from the city of Austin water telling us our water have been running continually for 48 hours. When I went to shut off the outside valve, I noticed it was damaged and leaking slightly so I had to shut it off at the city meter which I gained access to. This began my search to see who I would have to come out and fix the problem. This five-star business popped up and so I made the call. They couldn't get to it until Saturday so we just turned the water on and off outside when we needed it until they arrived Saturday morning. I was told they would take care of the problem for $550. They spent an hour and a half digging a small hole and replaced my shut off valve and turned the water back on. So you think that would be the end of the story right? On Sunday morning, a city of Austin worker knocks on my door and tells me our water has been running continuously for the last 24 hours. So once again, I shut the water off and call this business, which to their credit, they called me back on a Sunday to let me know someone would be by Monday morning. So yes, they did fix the slightly leaky valve, but they did not pressure test the line which would've easily have indicated the secondary leak just a few feet away where there was a very muddy patch of grass. On Monday, as I'm about to leave for work, I get an email that allows me to track their vehicle in proximity to my home (this is a great feature). I met with one of the technicians and ask him why the line was not pressure tested and pointed out the muddy area a few feet away which was an obvious leak site. I asked him how much more this could cost, and as he looked down at the grass, he pulled a number out of thin air.....$939! I thought that price was a little exorbitant, considering what I had already paid. Once again, this took them an hour and a half to make the repair and the parts for both jobs could not possibly have been more than $50. So for a total of $1489 they worked for three hours to make two simple repairs. Which now brings us to their billing. On their two invoices, there's no break down of the charges whatsoever. Just a total price and a simple explanation of what they did. That leaves me wondering how much they charge per labor hour, no mention of warranty period and whether or not I paid for a second service call or not. Their charges and billing alone are enough for me to never call them back, but the fact they didn't do the job right in the first place only comfirms that decision. I do give them credit for their quick response time, the tracking app and for the photos they took. Along with the 48 hours of water that was lost (not their fault), I now have to dispute with the city of Austin the additional 24 hours worth of water lost (which is their fault) so that I don't wind up with a huge water usage bill. So ask yourself, would you pay for what amounts to be $500 an hour for three hours work and not getting it right the first time, thus costing more? read more

Great couple of guys that came out to look at my inspection report items. They were able to guide me on what to do about getting my gas meter raised off the ground but then also help me with things like tightening a toilet tank, some faucets, installing a gas shutoff, and a new hose bib. If I was to describe a bad business model I would take this one as an example. Spoke to them late evening on Friday, was told that someone will get back to me in two hours. Never happened however they did text me Saturday morning. Made an appointment for Monday 9-12, received a confirmation, canceled all my business and took a day off. At 11 texted them and asked to confirm that someone is on the way. The response was "I have you between 12-3. I sent them back their own conformation. Imagine my reaction when I was told that they changed my appointment without informing me. Just see the screen shot. I obviously explained my situation and the need to go back to work later however they refused to honor the appointment. When I asked to talk to the owner I did not get any reply. This is hardly a responsible business and most certainly an example of a horrible customer service. _________________ update________________ I received a call from the owner who expressed his apologies and provided the insight. I like reading reviews but I'm not one to write BUT I believe praise should be given where praise is due. Capital City - your company rocks!! For the past week, the people whom I've liaised with impressed me - from communication all the way down to getting the work done, everyone was serious about getting the job completed ASAP. They see an emergency and respond to it IMMEDIATELY. Our hot water tank had a leakage which was going on for some time and by the time we noticed, it was a pretty bad emergency. Capital City was called in, first to check out the situation and by next morning, the team arrived and removed the tank. In between, another team came in to repair the drywall - which I'd have to add, took their own sweeeeet time. After their part was over, Capital City arrived at 8am the next morning to install the new tank for us. They understood that we had been without hot water for a week and turned up early to complete the job. What else can I say - when you're in a tough situation (a family of 4 without hot water for bathing, hand washing all kitchen items because the dishwasher is not functioning) and to have people "realize" that and to turn up to do their job to help you - it just says so much about them and the company they represent. A bursted pipe under my pier and beam was spraying 100's of gallons in my crawl space. I turned water off at the street and started searching for a reputable plumber. YELP started the process and within 1/2 hour I had four plumbers offering assist. I chose Capitol City Plumbing based on reviews as well as one of my Homies on next door. Man did THEY DELIVER! It was the day before Christmas and pretty cold. I did not want to risk paying holiday rates, felt bad pulling someone away from family plans, AND most important I wanted to work on my winter tan. So I set the appointment for the 26th and went fishing in warmer Port Aransas. Momma didn't raise no dummy AND I know how to make lemonade. For those of you wondering, yes, the Reds and Pompano did comply! Score one for the Home team. My appointment was set between 8-10 if I recall. Enter Hunter and Kyle at the "crack" of dawn (failed attempt at plumbers joke) 8 AM sharp. Both were young bucks with a thin build which is a benefit when entering a crawl space. As a bonus, one could have passed for Simon Pegg from "Shaun of the Dead". I "shit" you not. It was more fascinating than awkward. The previous individual who had installed the copper run to the kitchen side of the house, had connected the copper pipe to the OLD galvanized pipe at a juncture which caused corrosion.. These two materials don't play nice together when touching. According to my Google assistant this is called "electrolysis". But, If that word provokes the thought of zapping pubic hairs for genital grooming, then it appears we can also use the term "galvanic action". But I digress. Long story short, or at least shorter, after a quick run to obtain connections, the damage was repaired correctly and efficiently. They were able to use a pro-press copper fitting, and I believe a dielectric fitting to separate the copper and galvanized pipe. Following the expedited repair, the guys were happy to discuss a couple of other house concerns I have on my "to do list". They were totally professional and I didn't feel rushed. But finally the painful part could be put off no longer. Despite being Gen X I had to go with the Yuppie standard of "what's the damage". With my brow furrowed, I had prepared myself for the worst and even brought my own Vaseline. But you will never believe it, the price was SO reasonable I actually felt I was getting a bargain, a fair handshake, even a deal! In a world plagued with price gauging for services, supply chain disruptions, unchecked inflation, sky rocketing interest rates, and $200 bags of groceries I was awestruck!! There are some businesses you hate to share, for fear the secret will get out and you won't have access. But these guys went far and above to earn it! I'm actually excited to have them work on some "deferred maintenance task" here at the house, knowing I will receive professional and affordable on time service. Don't keep searching and worrying. CCPD just helped us changed a mater bedroom faucet. Their fee is competitive, service was prompt and detailed oriented. They took photos of before and after to include in the final invoice.
