On another visit, I'll order food, but today was all about coffee, and since I lived in the French enclave in the US, New Orleans, for an extended time, without glancing at the menu, I automatically asked for a cafe au lait, but the counter man had no idea what I was talking about. So it was cappuccino time, even tho it was past the taboo hour for ordering in Italy. It was perfect. As was the Turkish coffee. I'm a New Yorker, and although I enjoy a good Chicago deep dish, I still favor NY style pizzas. And this one is the best I can remember in Chicago. I've tried a lot. The crust is almost perfect. Well baked, crusty, chewy, and tasty. Lots of air at the edges and a great bite throughout. We had the sausage and peppers pizza. The sausage was crumbled across interior with fresh peppers. The sauce could have had a little more flavor, but it was very good - not too salty like so many others- and nicely spread across the inside of the pie. The crust held the toppings nicely- there was no mush in the middle. We also ordered a pear and pecan salad. Lots of pear squares, plenty of pecans, and a generous amount of greens. The soup of the day was a Tuscan soup - lots of beans, some sausage, cheese, and a flavorful broth. Fresh and homemade. And very good. Oh, and a pitcher of water came to our table with our plates and silverware. No issues. No problems. (From earlier reviews, we had been concerned about the availability of tap water. Ours was fine.). There was a reasonable selection of beer- including craft beers- at very reasonable prices. We enjoyed our meal. Ordering at the counter was easy and efficient. Prices were reasonable and the value was good. We found the service to be pleasant, friendly, and timely. We will be back to try other pizzas and look forward to it.

They were delicious but we knew we weren't getting the best of the batch and also noticed people in the back making tons of donuts. So we decided to return for a 7 am donut run....... PERFECTION! The donuts were sooooo fresh and sweet and there were soooooo many flavors - the huge apple fritter was moist and our new favorite was the payday with vanilla, caramel icing and peanuts. But I think what really stood out was how long the donuts taste good after you buy them and Spunky Dunkers didn't disappoint. Get them home and in a ziploc bag or Tupperware and they tasted just as good 2 days later This place isn't a secret either and I see why.
