Was told to check this place out since I'm still a board the COVID-bourbon ride. Yes the place is dated but they have a very good selection of brown water. Not the best prices I've seen but not unreasonable. The staff were very helpful in checking to see if they can get hold of some rarer bottles. They have a nice selection of store picks as well, and seem to highlight everything from Jeppson's bourbon with different finishes (not talking Malort) to high end Barrell and Nashville Bottling Co offerings. There are some nice sales as well that are very tempting. Besides bourbon, a very nice single malt section. When I was there, there was a lively crowd at the bar talking world politics....interesting but the liquor they were consuming clearly didn't help them make salient points. Will check in here again soon and likely pick up a few more of their store picks. read more

I was on a quest for a delicious, impossible-to-find infused liquor (the maker went out of business) that I love serving and gifting to friends (this single item finally made me understand others' passion for wines), and found a possible treasure trove far, far away in....Libertyville, Illinois! I called. Steve and the crew at Gold Eagle immediately went above and beyond to do an accurate warehouse count (more than predicted!), and get those bottles safely to me in California. I was on the hunt for some GOOD port. No, not that $20 junk that most people sell. I'm talking the kind of port only real port drinkers want. And someone I know told me to go to Gold Eagle Liquors. They had a decent number of options... but the really good stuff was sitting in their "vintage" bin. Come to mama. They even had a stock of 30 year and 40 year tawnies on the shelves. Wahoo! I happily walked out with 3 different bottles and am looking forward to slowly working my way through them. It's definitely dated inside. Gold Eagle Liquors has been here forever. My husband even remembers this place from when he was younger (and for the record, we're children of the 80's). But it's functional. The selection of other liquors and wines was quite impressive. And from my point of view, definitely worth the trip. If I was looking to stock up, this would become my destination. read more

Gold Eagle in Libertyville is an outstanding liquor store. I have been to their tasting room several times and Drew is a great host. Jake and his brother, the owners, are on-premise most of the time. Great shop, nice people, amazing selection. I was looking for a Rum finished Angels Envy and this was the only shop in the area that had it. And only two left at that. I called in to confirm availability and they physically went to put eyes on it which I appreciate. Pickup was easy, the whole process was great. One of the best liquor stores in Lake County. Great selection and prices. You can fin all your wines from all regions in all price ranges. They can help you fin a knock out bottle to bring to a dinner party for under $20. Looking for a great cognac or single malt? They have them all and then some. Above average liquor store with very personalized service! Great whiskey selection, with their own private bottling of Buffalo Trace. Good specials on some things; a tad high on some other. The owner was extremely knowledgeable & helpful; plus, offered samples of things we were talking about. Solid neighborhood store. Could use a little help with the beer selection. Yeah, this place is out here in the sticks, but they have Arak Al Rayan, Syrian Arak. Hard to find. So worth it.

We really like this liquor store. Their prices our comparable to Jewel but when you are looking for more variety, they are the place to go. We went on a Thursday or Friday morning and the woman at the counter was super nice! It's a little out of our way, but we will be there again when we are looking for something besides our usual Skyy vodka. That particular day it was on sale and beat the Jewel price by $4!! First off they gave me the wrong amount of change back ($20 less than they should've). Once I told them, they were rude to me about it when it was their fault. An old man who works there then proceeded to come over to the register and complain about how I was using a $100 bill to buy a bottle of vodka that wasn't that wasn't that expensive (said this to his coworker 2 times right in front of me). Good selection of all different types of alcohol, but rude staff. Won't be going back. read more

Their selection is amazing, the owners and employees are friendly and knowledgeable, and their prices are fair. They do their best to take care of everyone who goes in. The tasting bar added in the last year or two is a neat spot to hang out and try interesting beers and whiskeys, and they frequently host tastings and other fun events (which will hopefully return soon in a post-COVID world). Rude clerks. I was standing at the counter waiting to buy something and the guy looks at me and just says "What?!" with an extremely rude tone. That's not how you treat a paying customer. You know what makes a trip to the liquor store memorable? The people. My brother-in-law and I stopped in Gold Eagle on Saturday night desperate for ingredients for old fashions. This means rye whiskey. This also means staring blankly in front of the selection of rye in the whiskey aisle. The gnarly liquor store guy not only had an alarmingly vast knowledge of rye, but when we asked a question about a particular brand, he offered us a free shot because he already had a bottle open. So we trot over to the makeshift bar area for our hearty gratis pour of rye. The liquor store guy poured us each a shot and then poured one for himself. "What the hell. It's Saturday night," he said. "Here's to not remembering your address later." He also read us some reviews of the various ryes from something called The Whiskey Bible to help us make our decision. He was awesome. So off we went with a nice shot of rye in our bellies and the fixins for our old fashions. As we walked out of the store I turned to my brother-in-law and said, "I like that guy." The staff here are always friendly and waiting to help you, however, I must highlight one member above the rest. I got to know Rob when shopping one day for some wine. His knowledge is incredible on the grapes, regions, and food/wine pairings. It came to a point that I did not want to pick my own wine again because he was so thoughtful and insightful, every pick was amazing. He became excited when we asked him to pair wine with meals (he even thought about what pairs well with the wasabi for sushi!). He encouraged me to expanded my palate but always remained appreciative of my preferences. Unfortunately my family recently moved out of state but I asked him to prepare one last case of wine to take with. He recognized, without me asking, that budget would be important and was able to keep the average bottle less than $20. He reviewed my recent purchases to ensure he did not repeat a bottle I've already tried, and he even picked out some wonderful wines to send with to celebrate our new adventures! Craft Beer heaven is all I can say! Good assortment of west coast, Great Lakes, and Midwest varieties. Wonderful customer service and reasonable prices. This store does not spike their prices for their rarer beers. I love their selection of 22oz beer bottles it is quite impressive and up to date with new releases.Whenever I am looking for a beer that is hard to find I know I can get it here. WHAT A FIND! I was searching for an Absinthe gift set for my husband and all I could find was the liquor alone. the gift set came with glasses and a special spoon to hold the sugar cube while you pour the liquor over it (probably more info than you wanted) but to no avail. Then it happened. I saw this store in Libertyville listed in the phone book so I called and not only did they answer right away, but knew exactly what I was looking for and since there were only two offered to hold one for me. Imagine that someone holding something for you during the Christmas rush. Well I went up there and what a great place. Not only does it seem to have everything known to man from wines and liquors, but great gift items and just things that a well stocked bar should have. Dave did as he promised and held the set for me and while I was in line I payed it forward to the couple behind me that was asking about Absinthe and what it was like and what a cool gift it would make, so they bought the other set (which made Dave's day) and then we talked about the local distillery that sells Absinthe (see my review on North Shore distillery) and where it was and what other products they have. Was here the other day, very impressed by the customer service. They had a huge selection, was able to find everything I needed. I needed to find specific types of alcohol for a themed party, and the man at the front desk was very helpful in finding what I needed. He even gave me a couple tips on how I can make the drinks taste better by adding grenadine to the mix. read more
