    rosso pizza

Came to Edmonton for the weekend and decided to try this Italian place as per a local's recommendation. Coming from Vancouver where the food scene is overpowering with lots of highly rated Italian restaurants, I knew I could not expect much. Nonetheless, this was still a good place to try with warm service and good drinks. The beef carpaccio came in a great portion size with a couple of pieces of crostini. I liked it but found nothing special apart from the great size to cost ratio. The server also recommended the con pollo with mushrooms as it was her favourite pasta. It was good but I felt like in terms of flavour and quality, it could be replicated by some of my friends who are really into cooking. I also sampled (not pictured) another pasta ordered by my friend and that one unfortunately was salty and tasted like Michelina's. I also found nothing too special about the pizza and although we had leftovers, I did not find it was something I wanted to reach for again. However, the service was really quick and the server was attentive and warm! Drinks were also good with lots of variety. I also really appreciated the lower food and drink costs (cries in BC inflation). I can say that this is probably good food in Edmonton, but Vancouverites beware as this place may not meet your expectations.

Toblerone gelato, pistachio dark chocolate tart, and pistachio gelato (kind of dark in there but these were delicious!)

Delicious food. Quick service. Friendly and helpful staff. What more could you ask for? I was craving Italian and my friend recommended this place as we were visiting Edmonton. Great choice for some good Italian dishes! We shared the calamari (super soft and tender!), antipasto (LOVED the fig jam and crustinis), pasta with chicken and roasted mushrooms in truffle oil (chewy pasta and it was sauced wonderfully), pistachio dark chocolate tart (YUUUUMMM!!), and 2 gelatos (toblerone and pistachio flavours -- can't go wrong there!). Just be mindful that this location is at downtown, so be prepared to pay for parking if you're driving. I would come back here again!

Loved the upscale atmosphere, and the service is impeccable. The owner is around keeping things running smoothly, always friendly and professional, there to offer greetings, which is also why this business is a hit success. Like a truly experienced business owner, he can be having all kinds of challenges thrown at him, and he just keeps rolling, never skips a beat. I'll definitely be back for the virgin basil strawberry smash and the excellent prawns. They were happy to make substitutions to make the pasta dish exactly what I had been dreaming of. (The only complaint is that the scallops were tiny and not what I expected since I'm use to the big kind. I'd add more seafood for the price, is the only thing I'd change!) After my first time, I can't wait to try more of their food in the future! Make sure you bring your family and friends to enjoy this local treasure! Be sure to take a cab so you don't have to worry about parking, especially if you are staying nearby at the Westin! (Walking distance) Reservations are a must have here, however they will find you a seat at the bar if they can't find you a table! Very accommodating! Can't wait to visit again! The house shot is also to die for! Thank you Bianco for a wonderful evening experience.

This place was luxurious! We made a reservation on a Thursday night and I'm glad we did because even on a freezing cold night it was still bumping here! The ambience is dark and romantic, and I love the kind of steampunk feel with the pipe lighting and dark accents. Candles and super cute tea sets if you order tea. Really efficient and thoughtful staff. We came in super bundled up from the cold and the waitress kindly offered to take our coats. We ordered our food right away as I thought it would be a bit more of a wait but the food came out in really good time and as soon as it was out we were all happily enjoying and savouring the rich flavors. When we ordered dessert the waitress asked if we were celebrating too which I thought was nice. I orders the Gnocchi di Patate Dolci $29 added smoked pancetta $4 which I loved the pancetta and the gnocchi was melt in your mouth texture. The butternut squash purée was absolutely divine! A generous but not overwhelming portion. The Spaghetti alla carbonara $26 was the next top item we had ordered. The noodles were perfect and the flavor was excellent. Portion was a little bigger than the gnocchi but so nice. And finally the Tortellini Burro E Salvia $30 had amazing colors and the filling was a little spicy, not hot, but something in the ricotta filling added a nice spice touch. There were tons of sundried tomatoes in this dish as well. Dessert! We had to try one of the gelato flavours and we settled on the cherry mania, it had a lot more chocolate in it than I expected and it was melting pretty fast. We also ordered the Pistachio chocolate tart $12 and this dessert was lovely. Rich but not overpowering, and we adored the caramel sauce on the side as well as the candied orange bits. Truly delightful! We parked at the library parkade and walked which isn't too far, there is also parking out front. And I saw baby high chairs but I didn't notice a baby change table so not sure if they have one or not.

Great food presentation. Wonderful staff service... would recommend it to everyone Seafood linguine was great- big portions. Gelato- yummy! Garlicky bruschetta.. calamari would eat as a dish alone!!

Confused ambiance with delicious Italian food. Located right in the core of downtown, Bianco offers a variety of delicious Italian food. The location is quite convenient and the restaurant itself is nicely decorated. We went to celebrate a special occasion thinking this was the place. However, to our surprise we quickly realized Bianco has a problem with confusion. The restaurant's food, the decoration and the service gives a vibe perfect for special occasions. The music, seating and the space between tables gives more of a sports bar type of place. The food is quite good. We ordered the olives and they delicious. The pasta was great too, I ordered Bucatini which was very good. Overall this restaurant offers a lot and has huge potential but it seems unbalanced.

    "Caprese salad"
    Bonnie A.

Honestly I don't know what happened to Bianco. Maybe they aren't paying a competitive rate to attract top talent, but my latest experience was abysmal. They served a caprese salad with no basil, and when we asked, the server checked with the kitchen and they said they ran out of basil. Why would you send out a caprese salad when you have no basil? And why wouldn't the customer be informed? The icing on the cake was when we were eating our dessert (more on that soon), the table right next to us (within 1 foot of us) had the caprese salad. Yes, I asked them if they were told it didn't have basil as they were poking at it instead of eating it. Nope, they were not told and they had the same server. And they were also very disappointed. The dessert. Gelato was served as milkshake consistency as it was prepared but not brought to our table quick enough. The chocolate cake dessert (cannot recall what it's called) was drier than cardboard. And lastly, the ambiance was not there. Every server was running around which gave a chaotic feeling. There was a guy that seemed to be a manager that standing and watching everyone work. It just felt weird. I'll be hard pressed to return. I might because we've really enjoyed it in the past, but two strikes and they'll be off my list.

Very very interesting place. And of course, I loved it! I ordered lamb chops, calamari, and their charcuterie board, and everything was awesome. As you can see from the awkward photo I posted, they have some exceptional talent with their aesthetics. The meal I had was delicious. And I would like to point out that the calamari was cooked to perfection. The place was too dim for my liking. They really need to sort out their lighting situation. Don't get me wrong, the restaurant looks wonderful. But it was wayyy too dark. Maybe it is intentional? Anyways, this is a personal opinion, other customers may be fond of it. Anyways, I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu. And obviously, I'll order pasta next time! Overall, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Girls night out! We decided to check out Bianco for some delicious wine and food and treat ourselves. The patio is very nice and open, large, lots of heaters and tables. There is no music playing in the background of this restaurant so you can pretty much hear all the conversations going on around you, which for us we didn't mind that much. We started off on the patio and ordered a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir to share. ($65) the wine list is very extensive and there is really something for everyone. We ordered the cheese board for appetizer and it was a good size with 3 different cheese and 2 different jams. Comes with bread to eat it with and we were able to ask for more bread when we ran out. There was a very persistent wasp flying about and we asked the waitress if we could move indoors. She was very happy to oblige and helped us switch to the indoors. The indoor dining room is very cozy. We ordered a few dishes, my one friend ordered a pasta dish which looked very yummy! The only thing is it was very spicy and she only was able to eat 1/2 of it. The description didn't say it was spicy I don't think...and the server didn't mention it either. My other friend ordered the gnocchi and she absolutely loved this dish. I ended up ordering the pulpo which is octopus that was cooked to perfection served like a salad. It was very delicious. We also got dessert, 2 different kinds of gelato and a tiramisu. The tiramisu was authentic and reminded me of Venice, Italy. It was delicious! Overall this was a great experience. It is a bit on the pricier side here so it's definitely not an "everyday" type of meal but more for a special treat. Highly recommend. The staff were all very friendly and the vibe was awesome.

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

Bottom level was 40% full 7PM on a Tuesday night. Upstairs was booked for private event…read more Server was professional if not a little stiff. Place has "very fancy" feel and would be good for special events/celebration dinners. Free bread to start was fine but not the best I have had. I prefer mine with butter but the oil/vinegar is probably more typical. We tried the: Calamari: 10/10, great texture, loved that we got 2 sauces to dip in. Fettuccine Tavolino (cheese wheel pasta): 10/10. Boyfriend was not too full after. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Nice cheesy creamy flavor. Ravioli Alla Zucca: 9/10, I can't remember if there were 6 or 7 ravioli in the dish. Very pleasing presentation. In my opinion too many sundried tomatoes. I love that it comes with sundried tomatoes as that added some great tang/flavor. Ravioli themselves were perfectly cooked. Brown butter sauce was excellent and wanted more. Creme Brule: 9/10, exactly as expected, definitely enough to share between 2 people. Affogato: vanilla gelato was 11/10 good to me but boyfriend didn't like the flavor. We both agree the espresso was excellent. Very small portion (too small to share!). Free cookies at the end were fine. Overall food was excellent and I'll be back but to try something different on the menu.

I had really high hopes for this meal but it was just so very disappointing and I can't imagine…read moreever returning. To be clear, the service was not 1 star. We were greeted nicely, asked where we wanted to sit and had our water orders taken quickly. We had to wait a while for our server but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt as I don't think he is a server and may have had other things to do. But it w asnt busy and we were paying a lot so I should expect a little more attentive service. We eventually ordered an appetizer, each had a special and drinks . The appetizer was a lobster and cream cheese dip with toasted pita. And it was very good, though the pita was just cut in triangle. Hard to mess that up. The dip was fantastic and cheesy with big chunks of lobster. Great start and we were excited. That is the end of anything good. My wife ordered the special ravioli with shrimp, scallops and mussels. The shrimp was decent but nothing special. The scallops needed a better sear and were a bit soggy. The mussels were so small as to be almost tasteless. But the crime was the actual ravioli. It was thick and under cooked. The stuffing was good but you can't get over the huge bites of undercooked pasta. It was very off putting. The sauce and stuffing made it palatable but my wife couldn't finish .And I know it wasn't just us because I talked to friends at another table who said the same thing about theirs. I ordered the surf and turf special. Big mistake. Great presentation with the big lobster tail and good looking steak. The lobster was good. Not great. But it was a bit bland if you didn't dip it in the butter. And it seemed way smaller than the shell. I gave a bite to my wife and that left me with basically 3 more bites. And I'm not talking big bites. Normal bite sizes. Seemed the shell was larger than the meat in it. The steak looked great. But I couldn't even swallow the first bite. It was so stringy and fatty. It is hard trying to spit out food at a fancy restaurant. But I had to. And not just once! Every piece around the edge was fatty and gristly and stringy and I couldn't eat it. I tried to cut around the sides and just eat middle pieces. Managed to get a couple pieces but most of them were still stringy and I had to chew forever to get it down to size to swallow. My jaws hurt. In the end, I managed to eat less than half and left two big spit balls of inedible meat and the circumference of fat on the plate. To make it worse, it was close to rare and almost raw looking in some parts despite ordering medium rare. Just an awful steak all around. The mashed potatoes were very good though not plentiful and not near enough to overcome the meat. The veggies of one carrot, one bush of broccoli and a couple soggy zucchini slices were well done and actually I could have made a meal of them and been almost satisfied. When we started the dinner a group of four was sat behind us and they were the loudest people ever. No indoor voices. They seemed to know our waiter as they had a couple loud conversations with him and he was over a lot. I mean our food was terrible but the ambience had been nice. There was at least that. But now even that was ruined by these people. And I know I can't blame the restaurant for that. But I will say that they got much more attention from that point than we did. I actually think he came over exactly once to see how things were and we didn't get offered another drink at all. Our water glasses were refilled, not always by him. Again, maybe he had other things to do, but he seemed to have time for this other table. But I would still expect more attentive service at a place like this. By this time, we just wanted to leave. My wife still had half her plate and my plate looked like a bloody massacre on porcelain. Then our waiter came with a dessert with a sparkler going. Our friends surprised us by ordering it. It was bread pudding with a ball of vanilla ice cream. The bread pudding was good not great. IBut it was passable and it was free so that makes it better. Ice cream is ice cream and great but it is ice cream and hard to mess that up. In all it was a passable dessert but did not come close to making up for the atrocity that was the main course. Unfortunately, we are not the kind to send food back or cause a scene but it would have been deserved. Anyways, he leaves us the machine and we don't see him again. Got a good bye and thanks from the hostess but that was it. We got in the car and looked at each other and agreed it was terrible and we would never go back and that we would have a do-over anniversary in a couple months to make up for it. Such high expectations and promising start but overall not good at all. There are too many good restaurants to go to and explore in this city to waste another night there.
