Came here for Father's Day, made reservations and was surprised how slow brunch time was. The menu is heavily Italian food and the menu had a few items that seemed appetizing. My son ordered the chicken and waffles: The chicken was 1/5 - dry and underseasoned The waffles were a 5/5 - perfectly made, but served with a really unappetizing pepper jack cheese butter and spiced jam that didn't go well with it all. No syrup whatsoever was provided which would've really elevated the dish. My wife had the clams / vongole and they were pretty solid, 3/5. The mussels weren't obviously previously frozen, but the broth was tasty, and the croquets were average. My kids started with the garlic fries which were also a 3/5 and had a good amount of garlic and herbs. The ketchup was overly sweet but house made. The aioli was very acid forward and tasted like it had some sort of artichoke or vinegar mix in it that didn't match the flavor profile well. I asked for a recommendation between the veal and the lasagna and was told the lasagna was the way to go. The lasagna came out and looked beautiful, but taste wise... super traditional which some may like, but I found to be super disheartening as it tasted like low expectations. It might has well been microwaveable lasagna that was plated and finished by a chef. The tomato sauce base that it sat in was the highlight, but the lasagna itself was a disappointment. It brought me back to 2nd year of college, when roomies took their first stab at cooking. The server himself was great, friendly and attentive. But in regards to food, I would never come back here. And the birthday eating continues... I've got two more celebrations after this lol We went to Hotel Mac and dined at their restaurant, Biancoverde--Italian cuisine. The server was super nice and everything came out pretty quickly, which I appreciated. I ordered the cioppino, and my family went with lasagna, linguine, and pescatore. We also shared some calamari to start. Overall? Really good in my book. Flavors were on point and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Spending Thanksgiving here was a night to un-remember. I should've read the reviews over the past year. I could've saved ourselves $400. 45 minutes before my husband, brother, and I show up, I call the restaurant to double-check our reservation was still solid since I made it through "open table," where things went sideways in the past. I hear the receiver pick up and immediately slam down. I thought maybe somebody bumped into the phone and it dropped, so I call again, same thing. So I wait a few more minutes and try again, thinking maybe they're just too busy. Once again, same. I thought this couldn't possibly be intentional and gave the benefit of the doubt. We show up and are greeted by a surly barman, who says, "You the 8 o'clock?" And I reply that we were. He then mutters something about "calling for hours". For *hours*, really?? If my brother hadn't traveled an hour out of his way for this and we were all hungry, I would've given him a little bit of his own and left. I've never bitten my tongue so hard in my life. Our bill plus tip came to $400+. This was a splurge for us. I didn't have it in me to cook for just the three of us. By the time I booked our reservation, 8 p.m. was the only available time left. We arrived on time. Each of us having worked in food, service, hospitality, and janitorial in the past, we were already aware, as the last reservation on a holiday night, the staff would be tired and would want us gone within the hour. We planned to enjoy our meal but knew not to linger. We ordered quickly, and while he was taking our order, the waiter asked if we wanted our dessert to go. Really? We'd just arrived. The waiter was nice but asked again if we wanted our dessert to go, 40 minutes into our meal. If you're going to make 8 p.m. an available time for a dinner reservation and charge us the full, jacked-up prix fixe holiday price, then remind your staff not to rush customers. At least give us an hour! He tried to make up for the bums-rush later with a lot of small talk at the end. We were in at 8 p.m. Could easily have been out by 9pm, but i'd had it with the subtle and not so subtle treatment so far and decided to enjoy the last of my glass of wine. We were out the door by 10 after 9. Could not have been more satisfied seeing the visibly angry look on the b*tchy barman's face. If he'd been less of a jerk, he might've been out sooner. I'm sure someone reading this will want to jump on board defending the blue-collar worker, but we *are* blue-collar. Shelling out $400 for Thanksgiving dinner for three people was not easy for us. If you accept getting paid on a holiday, even if it's mostly in tips, then don't take it out on the customers. Put your big boy pants on and make a decision. I've been through this myself: Long hours, working in a kitchen or restaurant is not easy not to mention difficult customers, the whole bit. Working a shift on a major holiday. You do it because you have to. Many of us have been there so I can see no excuse for the way we were treated last night. I don't care if a meal for three costs $50 or $400+, You don't treat people like this. My husband I are long time residents of Point Richmond and we love this place. The food is always delicious and consistent. Whatever your taste buds are craving, you will not be disappointed in the variety of dishes they offer. The servers, bartenders are very friendly and hospitable. Went to this little spot in Richmond I happen before and I had good service. The food was good. This time went with a girlfriend and we stood at the front for about a minute before anyone said hello or anything so we just was kind of standing at the door and the lady was you know behind the bar and just kind of looked up and didn't say anything it would've been fine if for sale will be right with you, but there was that thing we were sat down. After attending a memorial for a dear friend, hubby brought me here so we could toast to her memory. My friend and I met here in 1978 when it reopened as the Hotel Mac Restaurant. We were the original seating hostesses - she at lunch, me at dinner. I recounted our friendship with wistful smiles and a few tears into my margarita. The bar has not changed much over the years and has survived under the different ownerships. The bartender, Ian, has a generous pour, or maybe I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. We had a couple of rounds and listened to the live jazz music - piano and stand up bass. I felt better at the end of the evening. We dropped by a couple of weeks later to listen to another musician -vocalist Gene Barnes. If you close your eyes, you swear you are listening to Nat King Cole. Sat at the bar again and had a couple of cocktails. I ordered the smoked cherry old fashioned because I watched Ian make it during my previous visit. It looked and sounded interesting. I also ordered a little something to eat this time. Something I don't cook at home - lasagne alle melazane. It was not too cheezy, a nice red sauce that was balanced, not too acidic. Think I'm gonna pop in a little more often, nurse a drink or two, close my eyes and listen to Gene's smooth baritone voice, imagining a different time, different era. read more

I recently found myself looking for a special place to celebrate my mother's birthday and I found it at Biancoverde at Hotel Mac. Booking the place was pretty easy,just called them up and they were able to get us a reservation for a table of 6 on a Sunday evening. Upon arrival,I was kinda blown away by the decor,holiday themed with a gentleman playing the piano and a lively crowd sitting at the bar-I for sure felt like I picked the right place for my mothers special birthday celebration. We started out our meal with complimentary bread service,which was delicious and 2 starters,the meatballs($17.95) and the potato wedges($15.95)-they had fancy names but basically that's what they were.The meatballs were so great,I really enjoyed their texture and flavor.The wedges were very solid but what made them standout was this truffle aioli sauce they were served with-outstanding-I need this recipe somehow. We went with a few main dishes-Penne alla Vodka($31.50) which was very good,featuring Salmon and vodka sauce-the Salmon was so tasty it melted like butter on every bite.We also went with the Tortellini($29.25) dish which featured pork filled pasta in carbonara sauce with prosciutto-It was pretty good,especially when u got the bite just right with the tortellini and the tasty pieces of prosciutto-very yumz for sure!...In my opinion,the star of the night was my dish-I ordered Lasagne di Manzo($28.95)-which was a lasagna featuring ground beef and lots of cheese covered in Napolitana sauce-man oh man it was delicious,every bite was super tasty and not sure if it was the sauce that made the difference but the sauce gave the entree a very light feel,after eating that dish I felt light still,a feeling I only have ever gotten when eating pasta when I was in Rome-so it was a great dining experience without a doubt. The food was terrible. The bread served before lunch was stale. My vegetable lasagna arrived ice cold in the middle. The manager took the $20 price off my bill. The minestrone soup was okay but $15 for a small bowl was outrageous and my friend and I each had a bowl. I should have looked at the price beforehand. My friend's salad was $25 including the $12 extra for 4 tasteless prawns. My coke was $6 and no refill was offered. Our waitress was very nice and was the saving grace of the whole disaster. The total bill without my lasagna came to $70 not including tip. I didn't order anything else because I lost my appetite when eating that gross cold lasagna. A Manhattan isn't a bad way to start out an evening. I had the polpette which were good. Not sure if they used veal or not but they were moist. Had the fettuccine Alfredo with prosciutto and sausage. The prosciutto were thickish rectangular pieces which I wasn't expecting. The sausage was overcooked. The dish though was hot out of the kitchen and kept its temperature. I like that. Since it was someone's birthday they brought out a complimentary tiramisu which was good! We ate upstairs near the front of the restaurant. Long time patron of Hotel Mac Second time here for dinner under new management. I will start off by saying Thelma the bartender was spot on. Personable, professional with great suggestions. She knows her bar and executes cocktails to perfection. Dinner in the other hand was slow, my pasta was overly salted and I had to send it back and we were served a dish on a chipped plate, not good. My water glass was empty most of the time as I had to ask for a refill after waiting an unreasonable time and this occurred at least 5 times. Service was slow and there was not really a rush of diners. Pesto pasts was good as was the side of shrimp and bread. There is definitely potential and I want to give a good review but will have to revisit as this time was not A great experience. All employees were personable And eager to make things right. Two meals out of three were acceptable and flavorful. Will try again soon. read more

What a hidden gem! I've been to many restaurants in this part of the East Bay for over a decade, but never knew about this restaurant. We were planning to go to Larkspur for a Saturday lunch but a traffic accident on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge diverted our plans. A relative who was with us and lives in the area suggested we go to Biancoverde instead to avoid sitting in traffic. Glad we did! The restaurant shares the same building as the Hotel Mac which was built in 1911, with each business under different ownership. The interior of the restaurant is super charming with its old saloon style bar and upper dining room seating. The dished we ordered (salad, clams, red snapper, lamb chops, desserts) were all delicious and the portions were generous! The service was friendly, attentive, and all-around fantastic! Bonus, the neighbor the restaurant is located in is charming, quaint, and has gold rush era feel to it. It felt like a quick getaway from the "normal" Bay Area. read more

We haven't been to Hotel Mac for a meal in years, but this new Italian iteration of their restaurant had a delicious looking menu for both cocktails and entrees. I made a reservation through their app which connects to Open Table, but somehow it didn't take. We were lucky to be seated for 7:30, on a Friday for six. This was for my birthday on 2nd of January, so holiday decorations were still up and they were beautiful. It just gave off the most warm and welcoming atmosphere. Very enjoyable. We had bruschetta, steamed clams and beef carpaccio for appetizers. All were amazing - nicely plated and delicious! It would have been nice to have more than three pieces of bruschetta for the order, but they were tasty. Entrees included - chicken Alfredo, mushroom risotto, pepperoni pizza, lasagna, tortellini and on their holiday menu - the pappardelle di aragosta. The sauces were all so flavorful. Biancoverde is located in the historic Hotel Mac. From the entrance you immediately see the large bar with plenty of stools for seating. There are other seats sprinkled throughout the dining area as well. The friendly bartender gave me a few menus; the regular menu, a drink menu and a lunch menu. Everything looked inviting, but I opted for the fettuccine gamberi from the lunch menu. The lunch menu is offered daily and has a variety of items to choose from. The lunch menu is a great value for the portion received. I also ordered a deliciously crafted cocktail. We went to celebrate our anniversary and enjoyed the food and listening to the three piece jazz quartet. My husband had the cioppino and I had one of the weekend specials that consisted of prawns, chicken and a pork sausage with a lemon butter sauce, mashed potatoes and spinach. The lemon sauce was very good but maybe a tab bit salty. Did not stop me from eating it though. Jerome was pleased with his Cioppino. We started dinner with bread that was probably house baked although our server (Juan) didn't tell us whether it was or not - and we didn't ask and ordered a prosciutto and fruit plate that also included some burrata finished off with a balsamic glaze. It took us a while to order because I was hoping to see carbonara on the menu, but it was not - it's my favorite and I'm not a big pasta eater - but my husband is, funny he ended up not ordering pasta. The bar service is quite nice. I had a Grey Goose vodka martini with a lemon twist and husband ordered a very expense speciality drink called Golden State, made with Steph Curry's Gentlemen's Cut. It included edible gold leaf among other things. He enjoyed it but the price was prohibitive of having another. It's one of those things you enjoy once on a special occassion. We finished off dinner with a shared tiramisu and black coffee which was served so hot we couldn't touch it until we were almost done tasting dessert (my only complaint). Found this gem while traveling up north with my significant other. We stopped by to get some dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. We got there pretty late maybe around 8pm and we did not have to wait to be seated. We were sat in the upstairs dining area. I believe downstairs is the bar area and another small area for socializing. Our server was amazing and attentive. She helped us understand the menu. We ordered one appetizer to start, the mozzarella caprese which came out very quick, same time as the bread. We ordered our drinks. My partner ordered an old fashion and i ordered some white wine. Both drinks were amazing! We couldn't decide on the entree, so we just did the "build your own pasta". My partner ordered the linguini pesto pasta, and it was delicious! When a new crew took over the restaurant and renamed it Biancoverde, they honored the building and its history of good dining by creating an Italian-inspired menu of generous, tasty, well-presented dishes. So delish! Granted I ordered a very basic dish, chic fettuccine with broccoli. But every aspect of the dish was excellent. The chicken was surprisingly very flavorful, broccoli was was steamed ever so lightly to leave a nice bite, the sauce left no room for improvement, and if that pasta is not freshly made, I want to know the brand. If you're looking for a historic feel, this is the perfect restaurant. It's romantic, vintage, elegant and sophisticated. Great for a date night or a nice restaurant to dine with your in-laws. Point Richmond is also great for parking and the location is right across the Richmond bridge. Convenient and easy to get to. We ordered the steak and lobster ravioli as our shared entrees and I loved the lobster ravioli so much that I sometimes order it on Doordash, lol!
