With my friend in town, she wanted to try good Italian food. We came to Passione Emporio based on a family recommendation. We were satisfied and left full. The restaurant is quaint and has neighborhood charm. It's a cozy space with a decent amount of seating for various party sizes, plus outdoor seating. They have fresh gelato and a wood-fire pizza oven you can see. The service was fine. Our food came out hot and fast, and our water was refilled, but we weren't checked on much. Their menu offers specialties and seasonal items. I had the Salmon Ravioli and my friend got the Lasagna Ragu. The ravioli was good; you can taste the creamy spinach filling. The sauce was light and bright. I wish there were more ravioli plus veggies. My friend enjoyed her lasagna. Their menu online can be a bit misleading compared to their in-person menu. I wouldn't mind getting this dish again. Passione Emporio is a nice spot for Italian food in West Berkeley. I'd come here if I lived in the area but wouldn't go out of my way. They're located off Fifth Street with free neighborhood street parking around. read more

My friend's mom said that this restaurant had good Italian food so I decided to try. Came in around 7:45. The employees greeted us and seated us quickly. They asked what kind of water we wanted, gave us the menu, poured us tap water. Decided to get the lasagna ragu and my friend got the salmon ravioli. Both dishes came out within a reasonable time. My friend's ravioli came with about 8 pieces. My lasagna was still steaming while cutting into it. It had a good balance of meat and bechamel sauce. It had a few crispy edges which was nice as well. If you like Italian food, you're gonna love this place. The nice thing about it is it was so good with all the sides and salad and a glass of beverage. We had a little bit of take-home and we enjoyed it again the next day. That made it twice as good. Everyone has their own favorites when it comes to Italian foods and the three of us ordered our meals and we share every time that we go out together and we're able to taste each other's choices. Everyone loved everything that was on our plate. I just have to rave about their pastas and the sauces. We used to go here often in Emeryville and were super happy to "re-discover" them 6 years later(!) in Berkeley. Had a delicious dinner, but a few things really made me hesitate about returning as often as I'd hoped to...I ordered the 3 Oz pour of wine, $10, but I used to be a bartender and my pour felt pretty darn short. Maybe they need smaller glasses for the shorter pour? I guess I'd rather be visually fooled! There was also a 10% dine -in service charge...is this exclusive of the tip? I've never experienced this before. In fact I've always thought that getting food to-go costs a restaurant more for the supplies required. When the server brought our check and we paid her at the table, the tip options were 18, 20 & 25 %. Wait, what? Didn't I just pay a $7.68 service charge? Shouldn't I have different tip options? Plus, there was a 3% surcharge for using a credit card!...it ended up being including tip, for a 12 inch "special pizza", a salad, an eggplant parmigiana and my 3 oz of wine, $106. I might be wrong, or cheap and I really love this place, but $106 seems on the steep side and honestly just "seeing" all those extra charges kind of irked me. But at least they weren't hidden! I came to the Bay Area to celebrate my best friend's birthday and she requested to come here to celebrate. The restaurant is in a quaint area and we were greeted warmly right away by the manager/maybe owner? We got several dishes to share and they were all delicious. The food was fine but giving 5 stars for the service! There was a small selection of pastas when I came about an hour before closing, didn't have all the items I saw on the menu on other recent reviews unfortunately. The portions were pretty small and the sauces were fine. The pasta itself was great though and tasted fresh! The gelato was amazing, I highly recommend the tiramisu and matcha! The restaurant has a homey vibe. Fernando was our server and he was great! Super accommodating and helpful with the menu and made us feel welcome with conversation. Disappointing! Photos are NOT representative of the space or food. PERHAPS it was due to a staffing problem? We ordered the focaccia and olive starter and received plain, dry pizza crust instead. When we mentioned it, the ONLY waiter in the house replied, "This is what we have." For that price, he could have at least offered to charge only for the olives, which would have been fair. I stumbled upon this place by chance when I was grabbing a coffee next door. The Murino pizza (goronzola + pear + honey) on the menu was what immediately spoke to me. I haven't seen a pizza with that topping combination since I was eating pizza in Pisa, Italy, and that was the best pizza I've had in my life. I absolutely had to try it here locally. The restaurant was on the smaller and cozier side. When we arrived, there were two staff working who both saw and acknowledged us, but still took several minutes to get around to seating us. But after that, the remainder of the service had no issues and food was served in a timely manner! I was very excited when the pizza arrived. From a first impression, the pears were sliced on a thicker side (they were paper thin in Italy), and very loosely spread out on the pizza rather than fully covering it. Similar with the gorgonzola, there were random small patches of them around the pizza, but I think it was on the more sparse side. I love strong stinky cheeses, so I totally could've used more. When I took my first few bites though, it tasted burnt. So I took a peek underneath the pizza and.....welp. Several slices of the pizza were quite burnt indeed. But at least half of it was still alright. I did let the staff know and they made it right by offering a smaller pizza in addition that ended up having no burnt issues at all. Just a little disappointing that it wasn't done right the first time for some happy Italy memories. read more

I found out about this spot after my guy attended a Yelp Elite event the other night. It's 5 minutes from my job so I sent the menu to the guys & we placed a huge order for lunch. It's not cheap & the pictures my boyfriend sent from the event looked yummy. What we got looked mediocre at best. And overall we rated it - OK Perhaps it just doesn't travel well? We had everything delivered via DoorDash My pizza was ok but I just thought it would be better. We somewhat accidentally found Passione Emporio after some holiday shopping at 4th street. WOW what a find! This is like so many small restaurants I've enjoyed in Europe. Not fancy decor, not on a Main Street, and absolutely delicious food. Service is so friendly and authentic. The menu offered many choices to suit varying tastes. I loved the grilled salmon on a bed of delicious smashed potatoes and my partner loved the eggplant parmesan. Not all cheesy like American versions, light and cooked well to enjoy the eggplant. The profiteroles were fresh, the wine selection a mix of European and local. We will definitely be back! read more

Glad I found this place, owner lady is such a sweetheart..this place is same family as previous in Emeryville public market. Place is good so is food. Be aware they have a dine in charge, I didn't tip extra due to this fee, I don't recall seeing it on the menu but they likely do disclose it. I never tip when a dine in fee is charged, it's excessive to do both... I am coming for the linguini and clams next time, unfortunately they were out so I had to get the pizza, which was ok not mind blowing. Their pizza isn't my style it's more upscale type foo foo style pizza, I love a more real traditional thicker combo pizza. read more

This was an extremely confusing dining experience. Pros: - the pasta dishes themselves are excellent. The mushroom lasagna was full of mushroomy flavor, and the gnocchi is fluffy and light - gelato is delicious and a great way to end your meal - service was attentive - parking is doable - bathroom was clean Cons: - they will charge you $6 for an "Italian soda" that is literally a can of San Pellegrino. For an Italian restaurant, I would have assumed they'd mix syrup with seltzer at least - the menu is wrong/inaccurate in many areas (there's a caesar salad that's labeled "vegetarian" and isn't; the lunch special lets you choose a "pasta" with your soup/salad/fries, but it doesn't mention that you only get to choose between two options--I believe it was the tagliatelle or pappardelle; there's a picture labeled focaccia that's definitely a panini) - THE "TUSCAN FOCACCIA" IS LITERALLY A PLAIN PIZZA CRUST. It's extremely dry and there's no olive oil or sauce or anything to eat with it, and it wasn't dimpled. It's insane and I gaslit myself into thinking "maybe this is just what a Tuscan-style foccaccia is like?" before googling it and it is NOT like that at all - the "grandma's lemon cake" is strange. What a great little gem: Just in the industrial area of 5th St in Berkeley. Who knew? We stopped by for a Saturday afternoon lunch and had a leisurely meal, where the wait staff took good care of us. We had the burrata and prosciutto platter to start off and it was so good. The prosciutto was smoky and lean and the burrata creamy, which paired nicely with the homemade flat breads, served warm. We tried their broccoli soup, had their spinach salad and arugula salad with smoked salmon, and a pizza. The soup was lite and creamy. The salads were health towers of greens. The spinach salad was loaded with cranberry and pistachios, pears and Gorgonzola cheese. A meal in itself, for sure. The arugula salad had a lot of salmon over the top with burrata cheese, as well. My friend had one of their Diavola pizzas and it looked amazing, with a crispy crust and salame. Save room for dessert! Their dessert menu is not to be missed! read more

Food was good, but not better or worse than countless other Italian restaurants. But: (1) There were 4 items ordered for the five of us (2 were splitting a pizza). Two items were brought to the table pretty quickly. But the chicken Caesar salad had anchovies instead of chicken so was sent back. By the time that was corrected and the two pizzas were served, the first person served had finished eating. And (2) The check (which we had to ask to see - we were simply presented the machine to tap our credit card on) showed a 10% charge for "eating in the restaurant" and 3% for using a credit card (as if many customers are paying over $100 in cash). Please, Mr. Restaurant Owner, add whatever charges you want to the cost of the meal, but just include it in the menu price. Don't be sneaky about it, piss people off, and lose a customer. read more

Unfortunately, the pasta was a real letdown; it arrived both bland and significantly undercooked. The portion size for the pasta was also tiny. We finished with the gelato, which was decent, but it couldn't quite save the meal. // The Service Charge: The most frustrating part of the evening was seeing a "10% dine-in service charge" added to the bill without prior notice. When we asked for clarification, we were told it was to cover the cost of imported Italian ingredients and tariffs. While I understand that supply chain costs are rising, adding a surprise surcharge at the end feels like a "gotcha fee." If the costs of goods have gone up, it's much more transparent to simply adjust the menu prices so customers can make an informed decision upfront. Other reviewers have noted this as well. We looked at the dessert menu first, then figured we might as well try the pizza since we were already there. Service was decent and the staff was polite. The restaurant got a bit busier after we sat down, and just as an observation, it seemed to be a popular spot for the older crowd. No complaints about that, just something I noticed. We ordered the Fiori pizza. My fiancé really liked it. For me, it was just okay. I appreciated the truffle oil and the prosciutto was cooked nicely, but I wanted more crunch in the crust. Unfortunately, the crust also had a weird aftertaste, like it had absorbed the flavor of bleach from a recently cleaned tray. It's something I've encountered before at other restaurants and it's unfortunate when it happens because it kind of ruins the whole bite. For dessert, I got the ricotta pistachio cake and actually enjoyed it. My fiancé had the tiramisu and liked it, but I wasn't a fan. It felt like the layers hadn't come together properly. The flavors were there, but the texture was disjointed and didn't have that cohesive, creamy melt that I usually look for in a tiramisu. Had a decent experience here but it is really hit or miss depending on the item!!! I would strongly advise against ordering the gnocchi, chocolate soufflé cake, or tiramisu. The gnocchi was an absurdly small portion for $22, and while it was tasty, it was not filling whatsoever. It was almost embarrassing when the server brought it out. Same issue with the cake, just very small for $12. Additionally, as someone who loves tiramisu, I was very disappointed that ours was partially frozen and quite watery - absolute nightmare! I will say the calzone, truffle fries, and drinks were very good and reasonably priced. I do not typically take issue with portion sizes but it was just a bit more ridiculous than even I can bear! read more

I'm not sure where to start when it comes to this review. I just know the taste of the food has completely changed. I've been coming to this place for a while now and when I first started coming here the food was amazing. When I say amazing even the wine was amazing. There was one day where my partner and I came to have dinner and we usually get the gnocchi and then as our appetizer the burrata with prosciutto. When we had it , the night we came in, it was horrible. The burrata was very watery and tasted weird, the gnocchi wasn't fully cooked and the sauce that came with the gnocchi dish tasted sour and like box cheese. Before when I had this dish it was amazing and creamy and full of flavor. It was one of those tastes where you can't get enough of it. Im not sure if they changed the chef or maybe the owner or they are changing the ingredients in the food but w.e they are doing is not working. I even went back another night to see if it was just that one night but I was wrong so unfortunately I will not be returning even though I truly loved going to this place . One thing I do want to point out is the staff is ALWAYS very nice and attentive. read more

Sauce was very close to tomato paste. Crust was too thick and there were way too many toppings on it. The 3% charge for using a credit card was off-putting. Why not just charge a bit more to cover the credit card costs? Finally, Parking is a bit difficult. We will not return. Better pizza at State Flour on College Ave. Owners should go there to see how good pizza is made. However, The service was very good, the ambiance was also quite good. The prices were reasonable. I've come again during a busy Friday night after having a mildly heavy lunch. I was thinking it would take forever to be greeted and served, but it was almost as if we were the only ones there. Even though it was packed, somehow it wasn't too noisy in the big room. They had some new items on the menu than I last remember. I didn't get what I usually get except for the french fries with cacio e pepe. All was still delicious. I tried a little of the lasagna ragu and was still delicious as always has been. I went at least 3 other times and never has the food been bad. Not to mention their chili oil is really good too. Gave that spicy numbness if you get enough. The french fries with cacio e pepe seems like it would be your typical french fries with cheese but it's on another level. Creamy goodness with crispy fries, not salty at all. Sundried tomato ravioli was somehow still light with an addicting sauce and made al dente(?) The tomato, sundried, but not too strong. I'm used to ravioli being very soft, but kind of liked it being more tough, otherwise it just falls apart. The bomboloni wasn't what I was expecting. I saw Italian doughnut so I thought American donut somehow. It's more of a pastry feel in burger bun shape. It's okay but would rather just do the gelato next time. Overall can't complain! Very deceiving establishment! We came in for Valentines Day dinner and ordered from the "limited" menu, regular menu was unavailable. We ordered according to the pictures available by scanning in the QR code and were very surprised with what we actually received. We ordered the ravioli, which were pictured as filled in a heart shape, but received 3 small pieces that were barely filled with anything for $27. The seafood lasagna was also on the smaller side. Service was not very attentive even though they barely had any patrons (tell-tale sign). Overall quality of food was 1/10, service was 2/10, and they added a 18% service fee for a glass of wine...come on now. I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

Their spaghetti sauce is to die for and next level- puts American spaghetti sauce to shame because this is proper Italian! Loved the primitivo wine, it was amazing.
