BIBIBOP is located in the same Southern Pines shopping area as Target and Whataburger. I had never heard of it, but I was already nearby, saw the sign, and figured I would give it a try. The easiest way to describe it is Chipotle, but with Korean-inspired bowls. You move down the line choosing a base, hot toppings, cold toppings, protein, and sauce. There are plenty of options, including purple rice, sweet potato noodles, kimchi, Korean BBQ beef, spicy chicken, salmon, and several different sauces. Instead of building my own, I ordered one of the chef-curated bowls, the BIBIBOP Fan Favorite. It came with chicken, purple rice, sweet potato noodles, roasted sesame broccoli, potatoes, carrots, corn, cheese, and yum yum sauce. The bowl was okay. It definitely felt more like Americanized Korean food than anything traditional, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. For around $12, the portion and price were reasonable. The first employee told me they had run out of broccoli, but more was coming out shortly. Somewhere between the first and second person assembling the bowl, the broccoli never made it in. I did not notice until I had already started eating. Not a huge issue, but it was one of the listed ingredients and one of the better-sounding parts of the bowl. I also did not realize the Fan Favorite came with yum yum sauce. It was fine, but I think I would have enjoyed the bowl more with gochujang for a little more flavor and heat. That is on me for not reading the description closely enough. The drink selection was probably the highlight. They had several flavored lemonades and teas in addition to regular fountain drinks. I tried the passionfruit lemonade and loved it. Refills are included, which made the drink feel worth adding. Overall, I would eat here again, especially if I was already in the area and wanted something quick that felt a little different from the usual fast-casual options. Would I crave it or make a special trip for it? Probably not. Next time, I would build my own bowl, make sure the broccoli actually makes it in, and choose gochujang instead. read more

We had a disappointing experience during our second visit to the Southern Pines location. Our group ordered five dishes and asked for one extra bowl to share. The staff ignored our request, walked away, and whispered among themselves. Only after asking a second time did another server bring the bowl. Love the food here. Ordering is easy and you can customize your bowl however you would like. Even when the line of people is all the way to the door, the staff is quick and efficient in moving the line along. Always enjoy my meal. This is the place to go if you really care about your health once in a while. The food here is the freshest ingredients. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is very positive and welled kept and maintained. We like it a lot. It's the Korean style Chipotle with some Gangnam style. Food is just ok. I didn't get the romaine base because it looked like it should have been tossed yesterday. Definitely avoid if you're on a low salt diet. Place is loud and echoing. Don't think I will be back. There are lots of better food bowl places like Chopped or Chipotle. read more

This restaurant is completely gluten free. You go down the line and choose your ingredients. It's clean and bright. The only thing I didn't like was the miss soup and that's complementary so it really isn't a big deal. read more

While not fine dining, our first experience at BIBIBOP was delicious and healthy food reasonably priced. Everything was fresh, attractively displayed and tasty. I ordered steak on my bowl--tender, well seasoned--I'll order it again. My husband ordered tofu which was very firm and under flavored--not a surprise for tofu, yet pretty good overall--we traded bowls and I liked it. One rarely expects a lot of flavor from tofu. As for the nice variety of toppings, the pickled red cabbage and kimchee were particularly good. Plenty of sauces, both of us ordering the delicious sesame ginger. The dining area is bare bones, but clean and pleasant, the staff friendly and helpful, the house-made non-alcoholic drinks absolutely delicious. We'll be adding this place to our regular restaurant rotation. read more
