I was on an extended, multi-week bicycle tour up the US East Coast when I developed issues with the bearings in my rear bicycle hub. Since proper tools and parts are required, visiting a proper bicycle shop was necessary. On my unannounced arrival (April 1, 2026) at the Bicycle Connection (5 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, DE) in Bethany, I was warmly greeted. I discussed my concerns with Chris Bond and staff, solutions were offered and implemented that allowed me to successfully complete my tour. The store was very busy with customers but Chris and his staff found time to help me fix my bicycle that allowed me to continue my tour North. The Bicycle Connection in Bethany had all the tools and parts needed, they were very happy to offer suggestions and help. After an hour of disassembly and reassembly I had a much healthier bicycle! Punctured my bike tire during an off season ride as I was entering Bethany Beach. Big 'ol shard of sea shell embedded it the tread of my rear tire. Tire went soft but sealant prevented total flat, even when I pulled the shard out. I hadn't packed any repair supplies, so checked online and found three bike shops in town with Bicycle Connection opening an hour earlier than the other two, so I rolled gingerly to the shop to wait for them to open. When the shop opened they brought me right in and started to work on my bike. They wanted to repair it in he back room but I asked if they would repair it in the mechanics stand overlooking the shop so I could watch and learn. Very generously said yes, which was great. Attempted first to refresh sealant and then add air but the puncture was too big. Tried to set me up with a replacement tubeless tire, but I asked why he couldn't just put a tube in and was told yes, that was an option. We talked about difference in service price between the two options and I decided to go with the tube instead of the replacement tire. First rate experience. Only thing that keeps it from being a five star experience was that I had to ask about using a tube instead of buying a replacement tire, which was much more expensive and was lower quality than I wanted. I can appreciate that they wanted to set me up with a similar tubeless option, but it would have been nice to have the conversation about options. Overall a very good experience. I like to hear options when there is a problem to be addressed so that's where the fifth star would come, but overall this was a very good experience and I was very fortunate to have found this LBS! read more

Walked up on Monday at 4:30 and they still had bikes. The guy asked the height of all of us and brought out cruisers, free bike locks and helmets. Bikes worked great for riding around Bethany although the kickstand on my son's bike kept rubbing the wheel but it didn't bother him enough to bring it in for an exchange. Overall good experience and would rent from them again. Cheaper than bike rental near Bethany Beach boardwalk. read more

The customer service is top notch! I had a flat tire repaired recently. A few days later the tire went flat again. The young gentleman promptly identified the issue (defective tube) and replaced it. I asked to purchase a spare tube, but he gave it to me gratis. He said "you had to come back so no charge for the spare tube." read more

Made an appointment to get my bike fitted to help out with the numbing of hands and fingers while riding. Met with Chris this afternoon and he was able to make several suggestions and adjustments within a matter of minutes along with putting in the proper air pressure in my tires. Awesome customer service and Chris even told me to call him after my next bike ride to see if the adjustments helped with my hands. I would give more stars if I could. I purchased a RadRunner e bike and had problems with the chain falling off every time I peddled. I called Rad technical support and they told me to bring the bike to a bike shop in the area to fix it. I brought the bike to Mike and he was able to fix it for me. I am so happy I did not have to return the bike which would have been an unpleasant process I am sure. In addition to being knowledgeable about bikes, Mike and his staff were very pleasant to work with. They truly represent why the role of Local Bike Shops can't just be replaced. Mike and crew weren't just about quickly answering your question or pushing to get a sale. They took a genuine interest in getting us setup the right way, something that is rare these days. My daughter has a neck injury and wears a neck brace. For months she's been able to participate in no activities. The one activity she can finally do is ride a bike. So, we decided to look here for bikes. While shopping for bikes, one of the employees decided it would be funny (I guess) to make fun of her because she wears a neck brace. After she was reduced to tears by his insensitive actions, we bought our bikes somewhere else. We recommend you do the same unless making fun to people is amusing to you as well. read more

What great service! I was looking for a shop who might be able to adjust my gears and I received so much more. Just before I arrived on my bike, I ran over something. As I pulled into the shop I checked my tires and noticed my front tire was nearly flat. Chris met me at the door and I explained that I now had two reasons for my visit. Mike said he would take a look at my bike and immediately started checking my gears. He allowed me to change my flat while he discovered both cables were frayed. Without hesitation he replaced both cables and had my bike back in action as quickly as I could change the flat. I will forever be grateful because Mike not only accepted the money I had in my pocket as payment, he had me fixed up and out the door in no time. I brought my bike in because there was an issue with the brakes and it turns out it was the basket causing the problem they spent a good amount of time fixing it and didn't even charge me. Mike at bicycle connection really saved the day for us! We were going to ride up to Rehoboth from Ocean View and the seat on my old huffy mountain bike wasn't cutting it. He popped it off and replaced it with a more padded spare seat he had in the back. It made for the ride to Rehoboth a lot more comfortable. He also adjusted the seat on my girlfriend's bike. I made the unfortunate mistake to have my bike repaired at this shop. Not only did they charge $47.00 for 15 minutes work they didn't even tune the bike for that absorbent price. They don't publish thier labor so I was shocked when paying the bill. It should have been around $20 max. When I complained that the chain was still chattering they told me how to adjust on my own and finally adjusted on my return trip. Don't use this shop and as there are several other shops in the area. read more

Chris Bond is a wealth of knowledge, and so wonderful to work with at the Bicycle Connection. This is my bike shop and I always have wonderful service and a great customer experience from Chris and Clark. But this afternoon, Chris just blew me away. I came in to buy a bike pump. Simple, right? Yes, BUT I already had piece of equipment that should pump air into bike tires. I explained to Chris that this equipment took all the air out of my tire, and that I didn't think it worked on bike tires. Chris asked to see the equipment, which I had in my car. I brought it in, and in 3 minutes, Chris showed me how to use the thing properly. This blew me away, I am now believer, haha. I will buy the new bike pump--and more--from Chris when I move into my new place, and get a new road bike. Thank you so much, Chris. The little things people do go a very long way. read more

Just came back from this awful store. I did my Trek bike research beforehand and being a short guy knew I needed a 13 or 15 inch frame for the Marlin 5 I wanted to get. The store manager was a dick. He looked me up and down and asked my height. I said five feet and he said "never gonna happen" I schooled him on the fact that the size bike I wanted was on the store's web site and he said he would have to look it up and then left me waiting for 15 minutes while he "helped" other people - he wasn't helping them - just keeping me waiting. The store's web site also said that it had one of these size bikes "in stock" - but Mr. Dick told me he would have to order one on Wednesday (this is Sunday). So very rude - and his young helper was obviously embarrassed by the treatment he gave me. Not gonna buy the bike there. I took my very old bike to the Bike Connection for refurbishing. i was told it would be $50.00. usually they charge $80 but as mine was old they couldnt do some of the work. They inspected the bike and could see what it needed. So I was a bit shocked when I went to pick it up and my bill was over $140.00. i would not have put that much money into this bike had I been given the option. i was told the refurbishing price did not include parts and labor. This should have made clear BEFORE I left the bike. Then when I got it home, my new brakes rubbed when riding it. Not very pleased with this service. Originally I had taken my bike to the shop on Fifth street in Bethany. They wouldn't work on it and suggested I rent a bike for the day trip I was taking. Should have listened to them! read more

A part broke on my aerobar and took it to Bicycle Connection to see if it could be replaced. Mike, the owner, interrupted his servicing of a bike and spent 15 minutes on the internet searching the manufacturer's web site to determine that the part was no longer available. He then recommended the product that was now most similar to my current aerobar and said he could order it for me, or I could order it, install it myself or have him install it for a $30 service charge. Since I had a Prime account with free delivery, I ordered it and he agreed to accept delivery at his store and install it. When I picked it up, he refused to accept a payment for the service charge as he "installed it in between doing other work". Amazing! While in the shop, I observed other staff members assisting customers with excellent expertise and service. I misplaced the hitch that connects the half wheeler tandem to my road bike. None of the bike rental shops in bethany beach had tandems for rent and weren't very helpful. And although Bicycle Connection didn't have the exact model, they were able pull together a few parts to give me a very safe and working solution so I could ride around bethany with my child in tow. read more

Terrible customer service. Bought a bike pump from the place which was difficult to use so we wanted to return it. When we brought it back the man wouldn't allow us to return it and called us stupid for not knowing how to use it. My father is and engineer and used be pump and said it was poorly made. He snarled at us and told us to watch the YouTube video and wouldn't give us our money back. So rude, we will never be coming here again, and based on their one star review neither should you. As a new resident in Delaware I have been a customer at Bicycle Connection in Bethany for just about a year now. I love this place and the gentlemen who work there: Mike, Chris and Randy. Initially, I stopped in for a specific product that they don't carry, but once I saw they had Trek bikes I decided to inquire about upgrading my Lexa. Chris provided me with a wealth of information...truly impressive what he knows about bikes. During my search I visited a few other bike shops but no salesperson was as attentive, knowledgeable, well-spoken, or as polite as Chris- so he earned my business, hands down! Since the purchase (Trek Silque) Mike has been the "tech extraordinaire" (for the new bike and the others that we own) that every bicycle owner wishes for!! He is incredibly talented and experienced at installing and repairing all the workings of a bicycle and willing to share his knowledge- which I very much appreciate. He never seems too busy or too put off by the silly questions or problems that I present him with. He's a gem, and our community is fortunate to have access to a bike technician of his caliber! Randy is a nice guy who is always busy, yet willing to answer questions or point out the products I am in search of. The shop is spacious, clean and well equipped with the necessary items for all levels of bicyclists.
