These guys were amazing. We were spending a few days at the beach with my teenage daughter and a couple of her friends. They wanted to rent bikes, and we were happy they were out and about. This place was conveniently located and offered great rates for the multi-day rental. They even had locks and helmets available. The real amazingness came at the end of the trip. The car was packed, and we were ready to go. The plan was for the girls to ride their bikes back to the shop, and we would pick them up there. However, as luck would have it, none of the girls could find the keys to the locks. We called the bike shop for suggestions. They said all we had to do was stop by their shop, pay an extremely reasonable fee, and they would handle picking the bikes up from there. It didn't bother them that the bikes were parked amongst hundreds of others at Sea Colony. I guess this kind of thing happens a lot. Long story short, we got going without losing time (because the girls didn't have to pedal to the bike shop), and Bethany Bike Shop earned our business from now on. read more

After heading down to Bethany Beach for the past few years, we decided to rent bikes to cruise around. We picked Bethany Bikes because of the great location, ease of parking and great selection of bikes. The service was excellent and you can't beat the price! I was shocked two bikes cost us $59 each for the week. After the 2nd day we noticed one of the tires kept running out of air, so decided to go back to see what we needed to do. It was a piece of cake - no questions asked, they gave us a new bike, quickly put the basket back on (always need a basket)... and we were off. Came to the beach for vaca and got a flat on my road bike on day 1. This place was open on a Sunday and although they couldnt fix my tubeless flat at this location (mostly beach cruisers and such) the owner took my wheel to his other shop 20 miles away to get a new tires, sealant, etc and got the wheel back to me on the same day. Super grateful for that as it allowed me to keep riding the rest of the week. Highly recommend for their friendly and thorough customer service! read more

Awesome experience! They gave the three of us a military discount even though I'm the only one who serves. We got the bikes for an hour for a total of $15. Rented a hybrid cruiser for $28 for the afternoon. Gears slipped, bottom crankset made noise every rotation. Brought it back. Young man at the shop didn't care commented that "Hey, it's the beach". His comment is code for: It's the end of the season, I don't care and at the beach you are supposed to accept substandard equipment that has been treated poorly now please leave so that I can do a bong hit. read more

Hands down, awesome. Need a bike? Go here! Have you ever noticed that some speciality stores (such as outdoor equipment) can be pricey and/or snobby? Or, maybe how some sales people try to rip you off and make you get a ton of unnecessary crap? This is NOT that place. This place is the exact opposite! I've been looking for "the right bike" for months now. I really liked my mom's Trek, so I went in looking for one of those. The guy that helped us (George) immediately got us started looking at some used bikes... in a much better price range than a Trek. I was concerned about paying $600 plus for a hybrid... but there are some out there for less! We test drove one that was perfect. He hooked us up with the right seat and showed us how to work the brakes, take off the tire/seat etc. I am bike-challenged, so he had to explain it all to me and that helped a TON. And the best part: this bike was probably NEVER rented (if so, it looks brand new) and we got it for a GREAT deal. We also got a new helmet that was a good price and quality. Bottom line: - Knowledgeable, friendly, down to earth staff - Easy to test bikes out (has a non busy side street to ride on) - Large selection of bikes - They take pride in their business and it shows. - Bikes are in great condition - No pressure. The staff here was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the bikes. It was very simple to rent a bike, you need a drivers license and a credit card and voila - the bike is yours - we rented one for the day (overnight) and it was $19. You can also rent for the hour or week as well. For another dollar you can also rent a lock which was key (no pun intended!!). My daughter had a good bike riding day in Bethany. read more

Disappointed with Bethany Bike Shop. I spent the past week in Bethany on vacation with my family and really wanted to take my niece surfing. I called and left a message letting them know my interest and when I didn't get a return call, I stopped into the store to speak with them about getting a lesson. They promised to call me that night and fit me in during the week... Unfortunately, no one called and left us disappointed. I'm sure that they are great with bike rentals, but I wouldn't recommend them for lessons of any kind. There are other water sports companies in the area that I assume will be happy to have my business in the future. read more

Will think twice about patronizing ever again. Waited over 20 minutes for the, I presume, owner to get off of a personal call. Other customers came and went during that time. Didn't even acknowledge that me or any other customer was in the store. Clearly her personal business was more important. Tranaction was was very curt, bordering on flat out rude, but still gave me 10% discount for the week. My daughter personal bike tire was damaged in the meantime, had no repair staff on premises. Did direct me over to Ocean Cycle for the repair.... customer service was so much better and so much more friendly over there. If they would have had any kids bikes I would have rented from them. Went back to Bethany Bike to rent a kids bike. Owner was so rude. The place was packed, people were waiting a ridiculous amount of time...owner was barking, adhesive and rude. Angry because she was busy, which I don't get at all. Took me over an hour and fifteen minutes for what should have been a twenty minute transaction. Today went back to drop the kids rental bike off as Ocean Cycle finished my repair. Place was busy and a poor old guy named Sam was running ragged whole that horror of an owner was in the back doing good knows what. Myself, another lady who was waiting to purchase a bike and a gentleman looking to purchase beach gear were waiting, while poor Sam was trying to get a family rental situated. The man who was purchase the beach gear, after 10 minutes, went to the owner and alerted her that we were all waiting. She very rudely told him she was busy and Sam wouild take care of us when he was done. The man and the lady both walked out...lost big sales. I would have walked out too if I were not doing a return. Went over to Ocean Cycle and spent a very customer friendly, efficient and pleasant time there. We'll definitely use Ocean Cycle next year instead. read more

We rented bikes on a quiet Saturday at the end of April. There wasn't much going on but these guys were friendly and quick to serve. We rented bikes for the entire day and it was a great value. The absolute best bike shop in Bethany. Have been purchasing bikes from these guys for over 15 years. They are so nice & knowledgeable & prices are very fair. I was in a pinch with 2 older speed bikes that I needed too much work & needed to dispose. They picked up & then delivered 2 cruisers to replace. My car was not big enough to accommodate the bikes & I needed to get home. George even agreed to come in to work 1 hour early to meet me & get the ball rolling. We have a tandem and have been very well taken care of by Bethany Bikes on several different occasions, including changing our handlebars. Last week we went to have them look at a sagging chain; we were fully prepared to pay for new chain and installation of it. Instead, they recognized right away that the problem was not the chain but that the pedals were out of synch. They fixed it in about five minutes with no charge and wouldn't even take a tip. We had an off beat experience with this shop. I contacted them about buying our used bikes. After dealing with someone named Joe, I'm sorry we did business with them. This guy makes an offer over the phone, we get to the shop and no one there knows anything about it. Of course Joe is nowhere to be found. I tell this guy behind the counter that I had emailed pics of the bikes and called Joe who made me an offer over the phone. He treats me like I'm trying to pull one over on him. So he calls Joe who says he never talked to me and then he changes the offer price. It quickly became apparent that it's a very lax operation and we weren't going to get anywhere. So I accept the "new" price and counter guy walks off. We are left standing in the parking lot not sure what's going on. Then another attendant is sent out with our payment and tries to give it to the people in the car next to us. Later in the day I sent Joe another email telling him about our disorganized experience and wondered why he denied talking with me on the phone. Well this sets off a bizarre back and forth email war like nothing I've ever scene between a business owner/manager and a customer. Oh and he insists that I'm not a customer...that he was MY customer and he did me this huge favor buying my bikes. But they are in the business of buying used bikes and flipping them for profit. So who was doing who the favor here? If you want to rent or buy sounds like you'll be ok, but they think they are gods when it comes to buying. If you take the chance just don't deal with this guy Joe or expect lackluster or lacking customer service. Oh wait...I forgot...I'm not a customer. read more
