They are incompetent and unprofessional. I bought a bike from a third vendor that I was supposed to pick up at this store. They gave it to a customer who walked in the shop so they could make a profit. Lied to me about n my numerous calls and even when I walked in the shop. They claimed the third vendor was dealing with layoffs and delays when the only delay was that they gave my bike to someone else and tried to cover it unsuccessfully. I found out that they did ncorrectly gave my bike to another customer and tried to buy a mew one but it was out of stock. When they finally admitted their mistake they told me to go get the bike somewhere else where it was sold at a higher price. It is incredible to me this shop is still open! read more

Bought my first carbon bike at Bicycle Playground in Huntington NY. this winter. Very happy with all aspects of the experience with Alex and his team. And I am kind of a picky customer. I was not surprised though, as my wife got her bike there a few years ago, and a good friend a couple of years ago. Alex had the bike I wanted (Specialized Roubaix), & matched the corporate on line sale price. More important than $, though, is getting the rite fit. Being in my late 60s, I need certain setup to be in my optimal riding position. There were 2 'endurance' style road bike I was interested in. I went to one of those corporate stores (for a big name bike).... and they said 'cant do that'. I went to Bicycle Playground, and Alex set the bike up as I needed it for the test ride! And Fit is everything. From my wife's experience and my friend's, I knew Alex won't sell you a bike that wont be the perfect fit- if he does not have the exact right size- he'll order it for you, even if it means waiting for a sale. (some shops try to sell what they have- even if its not just right- my wife experienced this). And also, Alex is a great bike fitter. My new bike that he set up is perfect. Another great aspect of working with the guys at Bicycle Playground is their encyclopedic knowledge of bicycles, coupled with their honesty in helping you understand what you need, and what you don't need. They don't push all kinds of extra stuff you don't need- just to make sales. In fact, if you think you want something that wont really do you any good, they will tell you so. I was considering an upgrade from Shimano 105 to Ultegra (at a very attractive $). Alex explained the exact details of the differences (down to the bearing vs bushing differences) and how much difference that would make for my type of riding (not much!) so i skipped the upgrade. And he was right. The 105, as Alex has it tuned, is working superbly. (and this is compared to my old bike, which is an old Dura Ace) You can trust these guys to give you the right information, equipment, and service! read more

We saw the good reviews and decided to give this relatively new bike shop a whirl since it was open on a Sunday and not far for us. We were greeted by Bob (the owner?) a soft-spoken father-like figure and cheery country music playing in his shop. (Sorta refreshing to hear since it's not common in NE coast independently-owned suburban stores.) He identified a problem with my bike seat adjustment screw that other shops somehow failed to bring to my attention and helped install a new one together with the correct sized post for my bike frame. just spent a small fortune on 2 e-bikes. I went in with no info and the first guy was showing me the in stock bikes and all of a sudden Alex (owner) took over with much info and help. the price quoted was 3200 each but Alex looked online and said they were on sale and 2500 was price. I asked about price match, sales (25% current sale on bikes apparently happening-just not these).and Alex said he would def give lowest price he could. I wanted to use this shop as it is independent and walking distance from my home and prev used them for maintenance on bikes, etc wanted a relationship for future warranty, maintenance, help. VERY happy, did get lowest price out there (not lower than sale) but not the price they had listed. I did not get home and feel ripped off. Alex was patient with us. my daughter and I each took test rides. this was a big purchase and I was worried about being gouged or ripped off but instead I feel I was given a very fair deal with a reputable and locally connected expert and business owner. very happy (so far) read more

REVIEW FROM 4/15/2020 This is my first time dealing with Bicycle Playground so I would like to give them the benefit that maybe they're overly busy/overwhelmed given the current circumstances, but I feel like I keep getting jerked around. I purchased an expensive bike on Thursday and their website told me that it would be ready for pickup that Saturday. I called on Saturday and the man (who was very nice) had no knowledge of my order and had to investigate further and call me back. He advised me that it's probably still on the delivery truck from the warehouse and will arrive Monday and to give him a call back then. When I called Monday I was told they received the bike and would be putting it together that night, but they're closed on Tuesday so the mechanic would look at it Wednesday morning and I could pick it up Wednesday afternoon the latest. Well it's now Wednesday and I just called to check in on my bike and was told that it appears it's in one of the boxes they received today. I explained that I was told it was received Monday and would be ready by now to pick up so what he was saying didn't make much sense. He wasn't able to provide any explanation and just told me he'll put it together and call me back shortly. My hopes are pretty low that I will be getting a phone call back today that my bike is finally ready for pick up. However, each person I spoke to was extremely kind and nice in conversation which is why I gave this bike shop a 3-star rating, but they seriously need to get it together and provide accurate updates on your order when you're dropping that kind of money on something. It makes me very uneasy when you're not able to tell what's true and what's a lie when dealing with a business. read more

Went in the other day while wondering around the Town of Huntington. I still have the same Panasonic Sport Deluxe from about 35-40 years ago, Weights a ton. The store is descent size and has a great selection of bikes too choose from. Bikes have changed a lot in 35 years. The bikes now are about 1/4 the weight at most. I spoke with the owners wife who was very friendly and helpful. She went over each bike and the advantages of each. She really knew her stuff. As soon as i am ready i will definitely be back, Bicycle Playground will be the only place I go. The owner told me to come back when ever I want for a test ride any any and all of the bikes. 1 - If you already have a bike, DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR REPAIRS OR PARTS. (Sorry for ALLCAPS, I just feel that strongly about the place.) Alex and his team will not just take care of you, they will advise you. If you're about to spend $200 on something that you don't need, they'll tell you not to buy it. If you're in a pinch and your bike needs a quick fix, they may even just fix it on the spot. They did that for me and I had to beg Alex to take my money. There aren't a ton of bike shops around, and I've been to all of them. BP is by far the best. 2 - If you need a new bike, buy it at BP. I didn't buy mine there, but I will never buy from anyone else. I've been a consumer for 40 years and have dealt with many stores and companies. BP is in my top 2 of customer satisfaction (and its a tie). Horrible service!! Huntington Bicycle Playground owned and operated by Alex. To start I very rarely leave reviews especially negative ones. However the post purchase service was so bad that I felt it was a civic duty to post this. There were issues with the bike purchased in the first week, the staff at the shop offered no resolution other than continuing to bring the bike in for services and short, gruff interactions that left me feeling like I had done something wrong as a customer. It should not be this way... This shop is disorganized, full of mostly disgruntled employees, and offers a complete lack of customer orientated service, the list is long and it's almost entirely in the negative column. On the plus side, great location and decent selection of bikes, but not nearly adequate enough to offset the "train wreck" service and "F" grade customer experience provided. Hopefully Alex and team can pivot and focus on providing a better environment and pre/post purchase experience for customers otherwise I fear the advantageous location of this bike shop won't cut it. Had some minor issues with my two bikes and the guys handily and quickly fixed them up. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff.

Not so sure I really got a tune up and they mismanaged my expectations. Said it would take 3 days to tune up the bike instead I had to call them and remind them an hour before my scheduled pickup and their closing to do the work. Upon arrival, they wanted to charge me $60 dollars extra for parts we had not agreed upon. In the end, my bike shows little signs of a tune up and the new chain was not installed correctly. Already at a second shop for corrections. So disappointing. A lot of money wasted. **Follow up 7/29/19 - I contacted the owner and was refunded the price of labor. read more

Customer service at it's best. I was in town from California preparing for a triathlon and found some issues with my bike after putting it back together from the trip. Alex took a look at the issues right away and after an initial pass suggested that I might need a new wheel set. Looking at a few other options, he simply tightened the rear hub that was terribly loose which straighten things out and I was on my way, free of charge! After a test ride, I was so pleased I brought it back to have him replace my sticky brake cables. Having internal cabling, Alex explained the potential need to replace the housing if it was the actual issue and re-wrap the bars if he couldn't easily get through my integrated bars. He was honest about turnaround time given my race schedule and his service log. Right on time, I got a call that the bike was done and upon arrival, I found that he only replaced necessary (and discussed) items. I couldn't have imagined a better experience and was happy to bring him more business. Now that I've moved to NY, I'll be sure to go back for my cycling needs. read more

I need to get this off my chest. This past spring I brought my bicycle that has served me well for close to 10 years. It was in need of a front and a rear cassette, brake pads and rotors. I wasn't aware of everything it needed at first and when they called to let me know of the additional work I was hesitant because it was already a large chunk of change. The repairman kindly offered to take some of the service charges off of the brake pads since they're already taking parts off. The first surprise was they didn't take the discount off that was not asked for but was offered and I excepted. I didn't mention it since I know what it's like to run a small business. The second issue is the front cassette was not working properly. My time is limited and I was able to get to the shop and the owner kindly offered to fix it while I was there. He also remarked about how low my air pressure was. I only picked the bike up a couple days earlier. He said it should not have left the shop like that. Yet he didn't fix that problem. The cassettes seemed to work good enough when I left. I also got a nasty look and combative questioning from the guy that called me on the phone to quote me on the repairs. That alone didn't make me want to come back. After roughly about 30 rides consisting of 10 to 30 minutes, nothing long. I noticed two issues the back cassette was not shifting properly in the fourth gear and the front cassette was slipping constantly and would not go to all the gears. I emailed them the owner replied promptly but also stated to not expect for all the repairs to be free. Since it was a couple of months after the repair work. I spent $300 on all of the repairs. That is pretty much half the cost of my bike new probably what the bike is worth used. It took almost 10 years for it to get in the condition it is currently in now after a couple months of riding. Other than the brakes I can confidently say it rides worse when I brought it in. I can't express how excited I was when I found this shop and all the great reviews on yelp. The only reason I'm giving it two Star's I assume that I got all the correct parts. Now I have to learn how to fix this bike on my own since the weather is nice and it is far from rideable condition especially with my daughter on the backseat. read more

Great local Bicycle shop in Huntington. I stopped here after doing research for the bike I was interested in. Came in and the staff and owner, Alex was super helpful. We discussed my riding habits and Alex was able to fit me in the right bike. Prices are good and regarding cycling accessories, they have everything you need. The 1 hour bicycle fitting session was great as well. I purchased bikes from other cycle shops and did not get the level of service as I did here. I ended up trusting them with a special build with a high end bike and could not be more pleased. This will be my go-to bike shop now. Having shopped and used both the other local shops over the past couple years, this one seems to be much more accessible. Just a friendly owner (Alex) who's happy to help. No attitude, no hard-sells, and seems to be extremely knowledgeable. I liked Cycle Plus, they've been nice enough when I've gone in, just seemed a little big and I had hard time finding help sometimes. And now there a little further away from where I live. CycleFast is closer to me and I bought my last bike there, but they never seemed eager to help on subsequent visits and seemed to be fairly curt when I had questions. I went in here looking for some possible upgrades for my current ride, as well as looking for some guidance on fit. Had one of my issues fixed right away and then he ordered me the other parts I needed. Overall, a great addition to Main Street. I will never go there again and would not recommend this store to anyone. Go to Adams Cyclery in E. Northport on Larkfield Road. I brought my bike in because the shifter got stuck and I snapped the cable. They finally called me two days after the bike was supposed to be ready, and said I needed to order a $65. shifter. They said they tried to fix mine but it was broken. I went down to the store to talk to them and was treated so poorly that I took the bike back without having it fixed. I then found Adams Cyclery on Larkfield Road and brought the bike there. The guys at Adams fixed the shifter for no charge and charged me only $4.99 for a cable. read more

I first bought a bike from Alex at Bicycle Playground in 2017. It was a high end Specialized mountain bike and Alex carefully help me pick the ideal bike for my style of riding and the Long Island terrain. The bike was fantastic and has served me well since I got it. A year later I bought my next bike from him. This was a fat tire bike where we bought the frame and Alex and Will at the shop got to do what they like to do most: Build a bike from the tires up. Alex never tries to oversell you, only only sells you what you need. But if you like to go high end he can accommodate anything that you would like. He can also "bling" out the bike in anyway you want to make it look cooler. End result was an awesome bike. From there I ended up buying seven (!) more high end bikes in total between myself and my fiancé. Several of these were customized and the end result was always fantastic: Amazing riding bikes with looks equally good. The store itself is very boutique-like and you get tremendous personal attention. If he doesn't have it at the store Alex can get you anything that you want. Alex personally sizes all of the road bikes and watches you on a trainer for 2 to 3 hours as needed to make sure that it's the right fit and that you know how to ride it properly before you ever hit a street. Alex and the staff are all extremely personable and you can end up spending hours there. I have purchased bikes and equipment at several bike shops throughout the years but none have ever compared, I give Bicycle Playground my highest recommendation. read more
