As cyclists, it's always best to know what bike service you're willing to DIY or pay a professional. Truing a bike wheel isn't the easiest job to do without the proper tools (i.e. truing stand). Without stating any names, several shops in the area quoted various prices (usually high) and turnaround times of a week or more. Called Tulip for a quote and completion time to tru my rear 700c wheel. Of the bike shops called, Tulip quoted the most reasonable price and quick turnaround time. Some may think the quick turnaround and price are signs that business is slow. I believe that a fast turnaround is a sign of good service and the shop knows what they're doing. Furthermore, my rear wheel was on the truing stand and spun to show it was properly trued. As for Ed (the owner), he's a cyclist, knows his stuff and open to questions. I'm a DIY bike builder/restorer but far from a professional bike mechanic. Glad there is a pro shop nearby to do specialized repairs for my bikes. read more

I purchased a folding bike and felt like my rear tire brake was touching and needed other adjusments. I arrived not too long before closing. Heard their prices were steep but came by anyway. I was greeted by the owner, who knew exactly what was wrong with my very old bicycle, which basically needed everything repaired on it. Only fixed my concern and didn't push/ suggest to replace other things. Took it in at 12pm and it was ready by 1pm the same day. Cost $46 bucks to replace the mechanism that changes the gears! not too shabby in my book. read more

This bike shop seems to be a one-man show. The owner is very skilled. He knows his bikes, he knows what he's doing with parts and accessories and repairs and upgrades. The shop itself is in a nice area and is attractively laid out; not the largest selection of bikes or gear but I like that it's not overly cluttered. The workshop area in the back is right next to the retail service counter and you can watch this expert craftsman do his work. I've been in this shop twice: Once for some upgrades and maintenance to my old Schwinn hybrid shopping bike and once to purchase some rim tape. Both times the owner made me feel like I was almost beneath his notice. On that first visit for the work on the bike, the bike got very good service and I got treated like an unwelcome intruder. He did suggest simpler and lower-cost alternatives to some of the things I wanted done on the bike, which I appreciated. On the second visit for the rim tape I again felt like I was barely noticeable to this guy. Nobody else was in the shop either time and all he was doing was browsing the web on his computer when I walked in. During the first visit, one of his regular customers came in with her young child and he greeted her warmly and gave her some very good advice about avoiding the use of training wheels. So I guess he can be polite and respectful but not to middle-aged less-than-athletic-looking people like me. He didn't have rim tape in the size I needed so he said he'd order it for me. I could have done that myself directly from Schwalbe or through Amazon but I agreed. He took my name and phone number and said he'd give me a call in two weeks or so as soon as the rim tape came in. I never received a call and when I called a few weeks after that to find out if the tape had come in, I just got his answering machine and he never called back in response to my message. I bought the rim tape from Amazon. His website has a lot of useful technical information. It also basically says, "If you have a recumbent bike or some other weird thing, don't bring it in here." I have a 'bent, in fact it's my favorite bike to ride. So I guess I'm not bringing it to him for service even if I were otherwise inclined to suffer his terrible customer service and arrogant attitude for the sake of access to his skills and knowledge. read more

This place is one of the worst bike shops. I've had 4 or 5 dealing with the shop and its owner. First off, the owner of the shop (Ed, I think his name is) is probably the most unenthusiastic, unfriendly person I've ever seen in a bike shop. (Biking =fun, right? Well apparently not in this place). Each time I visit the shop (to shop or for service), it seems this guy can just barely greet his customers. I don't need a smile as long as the staff is knowledgeable, which this guy is not. Proof: I bought a road bike from an online store and called this shop to find out how much they charge for assembly and bike fitting. He asked me the bike brand, model, and size, andmy height. Once I told him i am 6'2 and the bike is a size 56, he immediately told me the bike is too small for me. I explained to him that i have somewhat shorter legs for my height and all road bikes i have had have all been 56. He continued to strongly insist that the bike was too small WITHOUT EVEN SEEING ME OR MY BIKE!! Anyway I never got an answer as to how much bike assembly and fitting are. I had my bike assembled and fitted somewhere else (not too far away from Tulip Bicycle and couldn't be more happy. Bottom line, if you want good, friendly, knowledgeable staff/service, this is not the place. There are a couple of good bike shops within 15 min drive. I am never going to this place again. read more
