Captain's Auction Warehouse - Such a great lineup of pins. From old to new.

Captain's Auction Warehouse

A friend of mine turned me on to this place a couple years ago. You know what's funny as you get…read moreolder. You forget about the things that you really enjoyed in your youth. And playing pinball was certainly one of them. From the moment I walked in, I knew that this was a great place! Plenty of pinball machines, all lined up. It was almost a sensory overload, but I'll tell you what when I drop that first quarter in the machine I knew I was home. Folks at Captain's really know how to keep a place running smooth. The machines are clean, always a new machine popping up and just actually making an enjoyable environment. They have a Coke machine and a snack machine and a little area to sit if you so desire, but you will be spending your time punching the flippers! Well, the arcade is absolutely enthralling, and you will be there for hours and hours if your budget allows, the real magic is in the back where they have all the auction items. Whether you're looking for a pinball machine, maybe an old arcade game from you youth or just some sort of interesting piece of machinery that you can't live without. Captains has you dialed in. I've seen more than one thing that I want to take home there. The bottom line? You can absolutely not go wrong going to this arcade. The staff is fun and friendly, and you will definitely get your fill of pinball. Plus they have competitions so you can test your skills against other people. This place is definitely one to put on your must visit list!

Little John's Auction Service - John Gangel at his best!

I just found Little Johns a about a month ago and have limited experience with them. What I can…read moresay is that they always have a large selection of guns that will either be used for auction or consignment in the shop. Nick is one the guys there and you couldn't find a nicer guy. I went there twice with kids and both times he offered them free soda and ice cream sandwiches. Nick is the one who told us about a upcoming auction which is held in Anaheim where the old Hoo-la-bloos party place used to be. So the auction has a day you can "view" the items and you can either follow online, be there in person or have someone call you when your item comes up. You can also submit "sealed" bids before the auction starts also. So, most of the low ratings with this place is regarding to "Proxybid" who runs the auction. They are separate from little johns, they will be the one who handle payment from online transactions. I live local, so I'm able to go there in person to pay right after. My follow up trip to the shop was to start the dros for the gun, and as usual the guys are very helpful. Not you typical grumpy, uninformative gun shop helper. So if you have any interest in consignment guns or collectables, I would give this shop a look. They have some modern guns in there, but if thats all you want, go to riflegear. But anything historic, used and rare, you gotta go here! You can just look at the guns for their historic value in itself.

Very knowledgeable staff with some really interesting stuff. Thanks for taking the time to help me…read moreout!

My experience here was not good... a complete waste of my time…read more I found a few pieces of furniture I liked online in their November auction, so I signed up to bid with their online auction host at invaluable.com. I placed my bids in advance on the morning of the auction, then watched the progress during the afternoon. I bid on 9 pieces that day. And several items were auctioned for substantially less than my high bid, which should have meant I was the buyer. In fact, after each of those items sold, my invaluable.com bidder account showed my bid as "pending" for each of those items. After the auction, I expected to receive a bill, an invoice or at least a phone call from International Auction Gallery. I was ready to come down the next day to pay my bill and pick up my items. But no one from International Auction Gallery ever contacted me. I emailed them directly at the contact information on their website AND I messaged them through the invaluable.com message service, but again... no response. There was no answer at their phone number. So, I waited and waited for them to answer my emails and messages. And now, a month later, I have still never received a response of any type from them. I'm not sure if these people are just terribly disorganized or if there is some other reason they did not want to honor their commitment to sell the items to me, the high bidder. It was a waste of my time to sign up for invaluable.com, to review all their auction items, to place valid bids, and to attempt to participate in this mess. I'll go to a live auction next time, but certainly not theirs.

I am pressing charges against this individual and his business for elder abuse, fraud, felony…read moreembezzlement, and theft. My grandparents used him once about three years ago and he ripped them off for nearly $16,000, but he did make it right at the time "it was An accounting issue." I guess my better judgment my grandparents asked me to use him again to sell the remainder of some of their antiques. This time he flat out lied about what he sold and what he took from their house. He was there in August and took some other items and then sold them at a auction later on in August, and in September paid me for all the items that sold in August stating that was all the items. In for separate auctions after that he sold more of their items. I have pictures of every single one of these items going back 30 years. In fact several of the items that he sold after the fact or in the pictures of the items that I sent to him asking if he was interested in selling their items again. When I tried to contact him about this he was sketchy and was not responsive. When I finally got a hold of him, he argued with me and yelled at me and basically when I try to get a word in edgewise because I'm a little upset that he tried to rob my dying grandparents he literally said tough then and hung up on me. So good luck if you Use his services to sell your goods because he will rip you off since this is two times that he's done so And good luck if you're buying from him since you may be buying stolen goods.

Goodwill of Orange County Marketplace - Outside

Goodwill of Orange County Marketplace

This Goodwill has been around forever. Through its various incarnations, though it has changed, it…read morehas remained one of the go-to spots for vintage items in Orange County. In fact, located in this facility is the actual offices of Goodwill Orange County. This Goodwill is broken up into what I would define as three main areas serving the general public. There is their main store which offers what can be expected from Goodwill. They have the various clothes, shoes, household items, electronics, furniture, and other things that you would expect to find. The second section is their electronics division. This is truly a unique component of this Goodwill facility. What you will find here, in a separate room, is a lot of used computers. Plus, they have other things such as speakers, TVs, DVD players, and items like that. In terms of their computers, they have a staff that reconditioned them. So, what you will find is computers that are all, for the most part, very functional. There's been a couple of times when I've bought used computers from this facility due to the fact that I've needed to load old programs and the new OS in my current computers would not run them. For the most part, these computers have functioned very well. I will say that one time I bought a MAC laptop that was not function correctly. And, this is where you will need to make a mental note. They do not have a proper return policy. Basically, they sell everything As-Is. Yeah, they say they will do this or do that if your computer has a problem, but basically what turns out is that if you buy it, you've bought it, and that's the end of the story. Thus, at least in that one instance with the laptop, I was left with a non-functioning unit. This is just something to keep in mind. The main thing to do when you purchased a computer from this facility is to fully test it out while you're there. Which they happily allow you to do. Thus, as stated, you usually come away with a highly functioning piece of electronic equipment. The final section of this business is their donation area. This is a drive-thru donation area. This is both good and bad. If you get behind somebody who's unloading tons of stuff and/or wants to talk to the employees, you can be in line for quite a while. This is no fun. But, most of the time you don't have to worry about that. The people that work at this part of the Goodwill are mostly nice. But, like yesterday, I would say that the way the employee who helped me did his job was entirely inappropriate and just lazy. To tell the story, I donated about two thousand CDs. As I was unloading the bags of CDs, I could see that the employee was just lifting the bags up and dumping them into this large bin. Obviously, what was happening, by doing his job in this way, is that many of the cases for the CDs were either gonna be broken and/or the CDs would be bounced out of their cases. I'm sorry, this is just poor workmanship. It is very lazy. And, I believe, this is not the way the job should have been done. But, for most of your donations, you shouldn't have any problem at all. Overall, if you want to go to a really large Goodwill store, that offers a really unique take on electronic devices, and all of the other stuff Goodwill is known to offer, this is probably the best location in Orange County.

This review is solely for the store and not the outdoor marketplace…read more My pictures don't show how spacious this place is. It is huge! And great selections of almost everything, from games, books, and electronics, school supplies, you name it. Very good prices on nearly everything I saw. I walked away empty handed today but would definitely come back here and do some more digging. If you enjoy thrifting like I do, then this is one of the best Goodwills I've ever been to.
