This hotel is beautiful. I loved that every room faced the marina so you always have an amazing…read moreview. My favorite part was watching the sunrise over the marina from the balcony in the morning. It was a vibe. The room also had a fireplace which came in handy since it was around 40 degrees on the night we were there. Overall the room was nice and the view made it worth it. While there were some great amenities, they didn't quite match up to what I was expecting. They recently opened up The Living Room area in the lobby which has breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks in the evening. They also gave us drink tickets as well to use on coffee or drinks. Breakfast starts at 8am, but I am an early riser and was hoping for a coffee while I watched the sunrise. I did make a tea with the electric kettle in the room. The lobby/Living Room set up is perfect for drinks, not so much for a family having breakfast. They do sell local Michigan snacks, but you have to ask at the front desk and they have to find them. I would've just preferred a vending machine or an easier way to get snacks between 8pm and 8am when the Living Room is not open. The pool and jacuzzi were great, but we did have a hard time finding them. The indoor pool entrance was through an unmarked door on the second floor so it took us a few minutes of exploring to find it. I don't think the indoor pool was heated, but it wasn't too bad. The hotel is very centrally located so it was just a short drive to the beach, restaurants, and shopping.

I was there for a 3 day retreat. It is the regular place it is held since there is a well equipped…read moremeeting room near the rooms and food service. The front desk crew were top notch. The food service crew was also. Even the room I was in was above average and had the bathtub I need to soak. But the room didn't have an alarm clock or sound machine that should have been normal for a place like this. While the TV had a very good range of channels, the lack of a sleep timer again adds to stars being subtracted. Not having a microwave in regular rooms should be a no no for resort hotels. The food was average at best. Nothing to write home about especially the quiche and the muffins. If they want more stars, it is the little things that matter.

We spent Labor Day weekend at the Harbor Grand per a friend's recommendation and it could not have…read morebeen better. The location is great! It's walking distance from the beach and the main strip. We parked our car when we arrived and never touched it all weekend. The hotel also provides bikes to rent but we found that most places are walking distance and the roads/paths are not very bike friendly. Check in was super simple. Our room was very clean and updated. I wish they had smart TVs to connect to Netflix but we didn't spend much time watching TV anyways so it wasn't a big issue. The restaurant did seemed to get a bit noisy at night which drifted up to our room. The breakfast baskets were a BIG hit! The frittatas tasted so good! The fruit cups were also so fresh. I tried the prosciutto croissant on our last day which hit the spot. The quality of food was top notch - just wish we were able to order more! I had an appointment at the spa as well during our stay. The spa staff is super friendly. I used the robe and spa slippers provided in our room and spent some time in the salt water pool and hot tub before my appointment.

I'll start with the pros:…read more We loved this hotel because the rooms are pretty close to the lobby, not tons of walking. Easy to navigate with a 3 year old. The decor is very nice and the hotel has an overall just nice classy aesthetic with a beautiful actual working fireplace in the lobby. A HUGE one, they were nice enough to let us check in early. This is huge if you have children especially ones that need to nap. The hotel was super clean. Our room was spotless. The king suite offered so much space for the 3 of us. The location is pretty central to most things you'd want to visit in the area. The in-room breakfast makes it super easy in the morning to have a stress free bite to eat in the AM. All the food we enjoyed seemed a step above typical "hotel food" Another HUGE plus, it was basically empty the day we visited. We had the entire pool to ourselves. My 3 year old was in heaven. This alone was amazing, lol Ok so now the cons: The hotel is super DARK inside. It's just more geared towards adults. The room was painted black and also super dark. Just took away from the beautiful sunshine that was outside the walls of the hotel, Advertised in the room for smores roasting but was told by the front desk they stopped doing that. Advertised for Ben and Jerries Hotline which is another added cost when you are already paying so much for the hotel. Not much for families to do here. Or if there was activities or things to do, no one really explained them. All in all would stay here again being mindful of the caveats!!!!

Starting with the positives: The resort staff are wonderful, helpful, and accommodating. We forgot a toothbrush and they helped us locate one in their small store next to the front desk. Check-in was simple and finding our room was a breeze. The hotel is very long so expect to get your steps in! As far as the wedding goes, the staff were so kind and made my family member feel at ease for their big day. They have both an inside and outside venue so getting the chance to choose was also nice. The not so positives: the food we were served was okay. The morning breakfast was pretty standard but I could have gone without the eggs. It was the underbaked pizza that really did it for us. I couldn't bring myself to eat it. Twice while we were there we ended up ordering food in. The exterior of the resort needs a serious updating. Pulling into the hotel area had me a bit worried. Another reviewer mentioned it looked like a nursing home and they aren't wrong. The parking lot is in bad shape, landscaping is dead, sidewalks are broken and some of the cabins were boarded up. The rooms were comfortable but the decor and technology was dated. See photos. I believe this resort is very golf focused and could truly use a sprucing up. Thankfully the wedding was beautiful and service was great. No complaints there.

They were playing indoors tonight, as they have in the past. Tonight they were told to leave because someone complained they were too loud. Hello, it's a live band, so it's going to be loud. And Oakwood knew that because they have hired this band to play here many times before. By the way, the sound was fine. We will see the band elsewhere. They're all over the local area!! We don't have to pay high prices for just ok food. By the way, our server (Taylor R) was excellent!! Will not return (without this band).

The food ordered was a strawberry/spinach salad, shrimp quesadilla, chicken sandwich (no bread) and grouper (no bread) sandwich. The salad was typical for a lunch salad and friend said it was good. Husband said the shrimp quesadilla was good but the salsa was quite bland. Friend's chicken sandwich was, well, a pretty small piece of chicken - thin and the size of the palm of her hand. My grouper was thin and small. Three of us ordered the slaw as a side; it was overdressed (drippy) and a very small serving. Friend with the chicken and me went away still hungry. We've eaten here before and the servings were appropriate for lunch; not this time. This was disappointing for an $80 meal tab.
