I held a seasonal site here for 6 years, and what I've seen--especially in recent years--needs to be shared. At first glance, weekend campers may not notice the issues. If you're only there for a night or two and don't need help from the owners, you might never see the dysfunction that seasonal guests face. But behind the scenes, it's a different story entirely. There are several large red flags that i want to highlight. #1: The Contract Each year, seasonal campers are required to sign an annual agreement filled with clauses that are ethically questionable and potentially not even legal. (I'm happy to share documentation if requested.) The owner operates under a controlling, authoritarian mindset, where you are expected to remain silent and submissive--despite paying a premium to camp there. Voicing a concern (from something as simple as an electrical or environmental issues) risks you being removed from the campground. If you do need help or need to report a serious issue, don't expect any response via phone, text, email, or otherwise. #2: Water & Septic Yes, the other reviews are true. The water STINKS--not like well water or sulfur, but like actual raw sewage. Turning on a faucet in your camper is enough to make you gag. You do not feel comfortable showering or washing your dishes based on the smell alone. IDEM reports show that high levels of e-coli has been detected in campground water samples for at least two years. Yet, campers were never notified. That's public health negligence, and yes, the reports are publicly available on the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's website. As for the septic system, (which is a loosely used term) it is just a series of steel drums buried underground that have been there since the campground opened 50 years ago. No upgrades, no replacements. Just consider that for a moment, especially knowing the river is only about 40 yards away. #3: Invitation-Only Return Policy Your ability to return each year is based on an "invitation-only" policy. This allows the owner to keep campers walking on eggshells, afraid to say anything or stand up for themselves. It's a power trip, and it completely undermines any sense of community or trust. #4: Campground Conditions Maintenance is virtually nonexistent unless done by the seasonals themselves, who take pride in their own sites. The bath house is a disgrace--overflowing toilets, black mold in the corners, and showers in such unsanitary condition that you wouldn't wash your dog in them, let alone yourself or your children. It's teetering on being a public health hazard. Additionally, this campground is listed as "self-serve" meaning there is no camp host, nor anybody on the property if a situation were to arise. It also poses a concern of the safety of your belongings as there is no gate, people are allowed to drive in and out as they please. Final Thoughts I am not a disgruntled camper looking to cause drama. My family was well-liked within the campground community, and we had no issues with our fellow campers. This review is written because people need to know what's really happening at TRR and under the ownership of Sarah Straeter-Tackett and to proceed with caution. I have posted this review on various platforms and it is usually met with a defensive reply full of gaslighting, false claims, or "counter" reviews from her family. In fact every single positive review on this platform is from someone in her family and not anyone who actually camps there. That's the pattern. Take it all with a grain of salt. Starting with the positives: The resort staff are wonderful, helpful, and accommodating. We forgot a toothbrush and they helped us locate one in their small store next to the front desk. Check-in was simple and finding our room was a breeze. The hotel is very long so expect to get your steps in! As far as the wedding goes, the staff were so kind and made my family member feel at ease for their big day. They have both an inside and outside venue so getting the chance to choose was also nice. The not so positives: the food we were served was okay. The morning breakfast was pretty standard but I could have gone without the eggs. It was the underbaked pizza that really did it for us. I couldn't bring myself to eat it. Twice while we were there we ended up ordering food in. The exterior of the resort needs a serious updating. Pulling into the hotel area had me a bit worried. Another reviewer mentioned it looked like a nursing home and they aren't wrong. The parking lot is in bad shape, landscaping is dead, sidewalks are broken and some of the cabins were boarded up. The rooms were comfortable but the decor and technology was dated. See photos. I believe this resort is very golf focused and could truly use a sprucing up. We were celebrating a 40th birthday and started planning a little late. After submitting some of my info and details of what we were looking for, Chris reached out right away. He made the entire planning process painless and was an incredible help with suggestions and recommendations. I knew from the start things were going to work out well. We settled on the wine tour consisting of 3 wineries and lunch at a brewery, as well as transportation to and from each of our stops including pick up and drop off at our home! The day before our reservation I heard from our driver, Mark. Just this simple act settled some of my nerves. I was stressing leading up this about things going awry. What if our driver didn't show up? What if bookings were messed up since I booked last minute? You name it, I thought it. Mark confirmed our schedule for the day and we were set. The day of the reservation he showed up early to pick us up and start our day. We had less than perfect weather yet Mark kept us on time for each of our stops. Not only did he take care of us getting to and from each winery, he also provided us with a charcuterie tray, mimosas, and homemade cookies. He was also able to educate us and give us fun facts about each place we stopped. Mark was better than any personal assistant - it was like we've known him forever! Not a detail was left untouched. To start, Mark seemed friendly enough--he offered to take photos at each stop and gave us the rundown of the day. He mentioned that he had "seen it all," from wild bachelorette parties to loud groups, and reassured us that nothing we did would surprise him. Even with that, something about the vibe felt a bit off from the beginning. The girls in our group tried to include him in little moments and keep things light, but as the day went on, his energy felt stranger and more uncomfortable. The real issue happened at our last stop. Instead of Mark taking our photo like he had at every other winery (where he took multiple vertical and horizontal shots each time), I asked a random woman to do it. Right as she was about to snap the picture, Mark walked up quickly, told her he'd handle it, and took the phone from her. When one of my friends politely asked him to make sure the sign was in the background--just like he had done all day--he reacted rudely and visibly annoyed. He took only two rushed photos and handed the phone back without a word. Our entire group exchanged looks because the shift in his demeanor was so sudden and uncomfortable. Then, on the ride home, the situation escalated. Mark kept flooring the gas repeatedly, something he had never done during the previous six drives between wineries. Despite previously priding himself on being a safe driver, none of us felt safe at all. It completely ruined the end of our trip and made every woman on the bus uneasy--especially concerning given that we were a group of drinking adults trusting him to get us home safely. After we arrived back, one friend calmly addressed her concerns to him. Instead of apologizing, he got defensive. He eventually admitted he "overreacted" and said he was offended that she asked him to get the sign in the background because he's "been doing this for six years and knows how to take a photo." It was bizarre behavior, and at that point we simply tipped him and asked him to leave because he was making everyone extremely uncomfortable. Overall, our day started off great but ended on a very unsettling note. For a service that's supposed to provide a fun, relaxed, and safe experience--especially for groups of women--I can't recommend South Shore Brew Bus based on this encounter. I would strongly consider booking with a different tour company.

Think of your grandma if she read a lot of gourmet magazines and always offered four or five options for breakfast. We're talking apple-blackberry pancakes, spinach feta quiche, Mexican omelets, yogurt parfaits, pastries, fruit salad, toast station, bacon and sausage--and this would be for one breakfast!!! We always leave feeling spoiled. If you have a kid at the academy, this is the best place to mother them when you visit as it is so homey and relaxed and you can ask to have access to the kitchen. Prior to the trip I sent them our itinerary- with timing and our reservation time. We got on the bus after our third stop assuming we were going to the forth reservation, but the driver just started driving us back to our house without saying anything. I asked where we were going, he said the time is up so I'm taking you back- I told him that wasn't right, that I had discussed/emailed the plans with the office. His next response, was well this is what it says on my phone and I have another limo group I have to get to. He dropped us off and sped away. I also asked our driver to give us a heads up when we had about 10 minutes before we needed to leave. He never did this. And in fact when I rounded up our group to go to the second stop he was parked down in the parking area chatting with another driver. I've planned over 20 wine trips around the country, and I've never had a driver do these things. I called the office several times and was told a manager would contact me, of course they never did.

TV was available but hard to find time to use with the beautiful outdoors beckoning.
