Today 3/31/22 I went with my friend that's speaks little English to exchange a blow up mattress in which he lost his receipt. The employee that was helping him said no he can't return with out receipt. He said that the store policy. So I asked for store policy in which was available at register. Under returns with out receipt it states that you need a valid ID, and no cash back only store credit, and at lowest sale price. I read this to him and he read it himself and stated it says right there that you need a receipt. I asked for the manager and he stated he was the manager. His name is Tony. So I'll be calling cooperate tomorrow since they were already closed today with the is problem. Today, I went in to buy ammunition. The store manager, Guy, was working the gun counter. I requested the ammunition and gave Guy my California DL (Federal Limits Apply) and current military ID. Guy stated I needed a Passport or Birth Certificate to buy ammunition per company policy. I showed Guy on the ca.gov website that it is 100% legal to purchase ammunition with a valid military ID, in fact I didn't even need to show my CA DL. Guy attempted to call someone at corporate to get clarification but stated they were at lunch and didn't answer. Guy declined to sell me the ammunition, acknowledging that the law allows him to sell me the ammunition but his interpretation of company policy does not. I called to complain to Big 5 Corp to see if Guy is acting inappropriately or the company policy is to not accept military ID as valid and am waiting on clarification. Why would Big 5 go above and beyond to restrict 2nd amendment access to ammunition, especially to a military member? I can no longer support this company after the either incompetence or disrespect shown to me today. I will update the review as necessary and am considering further legal action. Update: Big 5 customer service states Big 5 policy is to require military members to provide the same amount of documentation for firearm purchases as it does for ammunition, even though they admit it is not required by CA law. Adding an extra layer of documentation for military only seems disrespectful and discriminating. read more

I asked an employee about batting gloves & as I proceeded to go look, I could blatantly overhear the staff asking if the gloves had sensors on them. I find it extremely rude and ill mannered with the way that was brought about and having the nerve to be dismissive when I commented about it. Unfortunately can't help but feel disappointed at the fact this staff can't see past an appearance. Ariana, the cashier kinda irritated and had an attitude when I told her it's on sale. She replied, "it's on the paper" (she was not happy). Went here for a one day ad to get chairs with shade. They didn't have anymore in stock. But the guy that helped us offered to check another store. We ended up purchasing the display. I forgot a coupon and asked if we could re-ring it using the coupon. Nobody was in line and they were super slow at that very moment but the girl ringing us looked annoyed. It's not like you're paid for the amount of transactions you ring up. Maybe curve that annoyed-looking behavior? Staff wear their masks, limit the store to 35 customers and comply with CDC guidelines. I'd say 3 stars is deserving. read more

This location is amazing. I come every year to get my camping supplies and am always greeted nicely. I came in this time around and both young women managers were extremely knowledgeable on the products in their store. I recently went into Big 5 to purchase a new gym bag and a pair of workout pants. I found what I wanted and paid and left. Note, I have always liked Big 5, and was super stoked to try the one that had just opened. I got home, and realized I had bought the wrong size of gym pants, so I put them back in the bag (tags on) with my receipt. I returned to Big 5, and went to the cashier, told her that I needed to exchange the pants. She looked at me rather blankly and I said, "can I leave these with you while I go grab the correct size", she responded, "yes I guess"...... So went to find my correct size and realized they did not have it. So I want back to the register. I said, "you don't have the size I need" the cashier just looked at me. She asked "do you want a store credit or do you want to buy something else". I said, "no i'd like my money back". She just looked at me and called her manager. The manager then came out, did not speak to me, didn't even look at me, and rang up the refund. Great for a Manager to behave like this right??? I was shocked. The customer service was horrible. Big 5 needs to get people in there who are friendly, and helpful. I felt like they were pissed at me because I returned an item that I paid cash for. Needless to say,i will not be going back to the Lone Tree Way Big 5. Big 5, get better, customer services oriented people or you will not make it. I don't like this store! I've shopped the Big 5 for years in Concord, and that was cool. Nothing against this chain, but I do not like the Anitoch store. It's small. It feels like my kids room when it hasn't been cleaned. It's too tightly packed and feels very very very very cluttered. I've gone here twice. Once was for a small set of dumb bells, and most recently for baseball cleats. I did not purchase either time. I could have bought dumb bells here, but it was my first stop. The selection was OK, I suppose. The last visit, shopping for cleats, was no fun. NO FUN I SAY! Waiting for the guy to bring the shoes was a slow process. Selection was minimal too. FYI - 2 other chains have a bigger selection and one of them has all cleats out so you can try them on to your hearts content. I bought at the latter. I don't know about you, but this Antioch store did something wrong when they planned this place. It's too small for what they want to sell. I hate going in there, and can't wait to leave. I like this Big 5 location a lot. I've been coming here since I was a kid for all of mine and my family sports-related crap. It's a really tiny sports store that is practically filled to the brim with stuff, but what they carry is reasonably priced quality stuff. You will find the same products here that you will at other sports stores, but at a more affordable price. The employees here range from being helpful to being super heroes. They never make you feel like you're unwanted or nonexistent. Which is a perk for a sports stores, at least in my honest opinion. read more

But they were closed and moving to a new location so I decided I would try this store though it's small and stock is limited. I was surprised as not only did they have what I needed the prices were lower! There TF 1000 basketball was ten bucks cheaper. I can't think of how many times I went to the store in Pittsburg or Concord to only find that they didn't have my size.
