Shopping at Big 5 Sporting Goods is an absolute nightmare. A positive thing is that they have a good selection of sleds. I have bought several things from this store including snow boots, BB guns, boxing gloves, wetsuits, and camping equiptment. Their ski & snowboard section is the smallest I've ever seen. They don't even sell any skis. The boards, boots, bindings, goggles, and outerwear are all the brands that nobody wants and I would never by a snowboard from here because it would break on the first run. The store here is extremely dirty and there is stuff all over the floor. All the employees look miserable like they hate their jobs. Nobody ever asks you how you are doing. I have been in the store several times and nobody ever asks me if I need any help finding anything. The lines here are also insanely long because they only have one register open. If your lucky they will have 2 open. If you want help you have to go track down an employee. Trying to get an employee for assistance shouldn't be like trying to find and hunt down Osama Bin Laden. If you love knock-off merchandise, horrible selection, rude employees, and a dirty store Big 5 Sporting Goods might be the place for you. read more

Buyer beware! They put items (like running shirts) on sale, however, despite being on the same rack and having the same description, only certain colors are on sale. I picked up a purple Nike "Dry Fit" running top because above the tanks was a sale sign. The sign advertised a sale price and listed in very small print was a number. The sign did not indicate only certain colors (bright pink in this case) were on sale. It is very deceptive. I will be going to Dick's instead where their pricing is clearer (and in this case the same as Big 5's price for this item). read more

He went over and beyond by finding similar styles in her size, and when he couldn't and I asked if another store could possibly have them, he immediately offered to look for her size at other stores and gave me a printed list of stores. I wanted to take a second to let you know that I'm a regular average consumer last week my son and I went into the Big 5 in the Chino Spectrum while standing at the register making our purchase my son was looking at a display of basketballs one of the basketballs was marked clearly marked I might add for $0.99 my son brought it over to me said mom look the balls $0.99 and then I said well obviously that's not right I said look at the other balls they were $12.99 I was trying to show my son that when you're in a store and there's something not right you let the manager know and maybe they'll honor it and talking with the clerk that was helping me she said that she couldn't make that decision and she talked to a supervisor supervisor was blonde hair glasses a little heavy set and said that I'm sorry ma'am I'm not able to make that decision but this is what really upset me it appears that the manager was exiting at the time and she asked her I didn't catch her name she has short brown hair average height and weight and said this customer found this item and explain the story to her. The display we were referring to is right in front of where the manager was standing and she goes well I can't do anything about this they're all $12.99 and I said I understand that but this is clearly marked wrong and they all looked at it and I even have my son take a picture of it and she said no sorry I can't do anything and turned around and walked out cuz she was done for the day she gave me all but 30 seconds of her time and I just thought that was so wrong in front of my son and to not honor it. I clearly didn't do that we were at the register the whole time but this is what gets me I asked for the customer service number I was given it no problem I called and let them know what happened I had a customer service representative by the name of Juan call me about 72 hours later that's fine I explained what happened and he said Well ma'am it look like it was smudged off and I said oh my goodness are you implying that my son and I smudged it off and he said no I'm not implying I'm just letting you know what the manager said and I said the manager that gave me less than 30 seconds of her time if she evaluated that and made that comment I said that so wrong you know what the ending of the story is we were standing there you can look at your cameras and see that the whole time my son and I were standing there he picked that up off the shelf it was marked wrong as a retailer you should have done something he could have done anything you could have said oh you know will give you a couple of bucks off I can't give it to you for $0.99 or you could honor the price that your company placed on that item this is what upsets. A Learning lesson for my son and I. I had told the customer service representative that I had taken a picture of it and he said that I need you to send that to me then and I'm thinking so now I gotta travel through all these hoops because your manager couldn't make a customer happy really absolutely not I'm done just wanted to share my story with you guys about that this particular location and the horrible customer service. Terrible customer service. We waited around 10 minutes and I had to go to a different department to get help. Turns out the guy who was supposed to help us was talking to his co worker in the sporting goods department. I'm sorry but when you have 3 customers waiting in shoes you need to move and do your job. The shoe we wanted to try on was the wrong size, and the guy never came back to help us. He just walked right past us. So instead of an exchange we got our money back and left. We will take our business elsewhere where customer service is essential. I highly doubt I will ever come back to this location. The workers don't care about the customers and the guy working in shoes today could care less about his job. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because of the cleanliness of the place. After looking for water shoes which took forever considering what a complete mess and how unorganized the shoes were we we're able to finally find what we needed. We approached the busy registers where there are only 2! Ridiculous. We stood behind one of the registers and the *manager (didnt get a name but he was asian) had been checking out another customer. Once he was finished he told us he would be right back an would be with us and he returned a min later and then decides to tell us theres only one line. Like really?! then maybe you should have a designated SIGN that states there is only 1 line even though there are 2 registers. He saw us standing there & tell us ull be right back and now all of a sudden tell us there's one line after it grew ?! How stupid are you? U should have told us in the first place! What poor customer service and organization, as a result he pissed us off so we left. Why give business to a place that wastes our time on purpose? We will never return now. read more

I go to many of the Big 5 stores in the local area but CHINO HILLS is my favorite! Leonard is the man when it comes to overall 411 of weapons. His recommendations with respect to fire arms and ammo are always spot on and I trust him. Valerie is another awesome employee and when Leonard is not there, she is my person! she is very smart and a pleasure to deal with and believe it or not, she knows her way around the fire arms. She is super easy to work with and has made it so easy to work with her from my needs on the football field to my fire arms. I love all of the big 5's but CHINO HILLS is head and shoulders above the rest! The employees here are the best and they make my shopping experience all worth the while. Can I give negative stars. If so I would. His place is not only a rip off their customer service is the absolute worst. I purchased a pair of sneakers on Saturday and when I got home they were a bit rite. I went to return then on Sunday and they tried to refund me the sale price from the week before. 30 dollars less. I explained I did not have the receipt with me, but showed them the price on the box as well as the debit charge from my bank. The manager stated corporate policy is apparently to refund the absolute lowest possible rate the item ever sold for if no receipt is present. Needless to say I went home found the receipt and when I returned was told to go stand in the now giant line. When the manager returned she did not offer an apology but repeated corporate policy. Needless to say when a customer can show you his bank statement and it exactly matched he non sale price of the item some discretion is warranted. I will never return to This store again as I do not need to be treated like a criminal. I went to Dicks instead and spent a ton of money on new equipment. read more
