Stay away from this store -- their return policy sucks. I bought four sleds today at the Green Valley location. I realized I only needed 3, so I immediately went back to the store with my receipt to return the extra one. That's when I was told they have a no-return policy, which was never mentioned at checkout. Refusing a same-day return with a receipt for an unused item is ridiculous and shows a complete lack of customer service. If they're going to enforce such a strict policy, customers should be clearly warned before paying. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else. I stopped in here last week for some fishing supplies for our annual Utah trip. There wasn't much of a selection over all but they had a decent amount of power bait to pick from. I had a couple of other things I needed to grab so I asked the young man who was working near me for some help. He wasn't sure where to find the items but instead of just saying they didn't carry them, he went and asked another associate. It was a breath of fresh air to see the younger generation want to do their job correctly. This review is merely to shoutout the employees/manager of this location. I purchased a large pool at this location in August, a pool that is really hard to find now that everyone wants to swim at home due to covid restrictions, so it was nice to see it in stock when I went. I lost my receipt for this pool, which I needed to complete the warranty process with the company that produced it. I attempted to contact customer service for Big 5 and never received a response, so I took my chances and went to the physical location this morning. Instead of just sending me on my way, the employee working the check out area went to grab a manager and the manager was able to quickly re-print my receipt! So grateful for their assistance. Definitely stop by for great customer service and harder to find items that are typically sold out in other sporting goods stores (both physical and online). read more

Anthony at store 370 needs training on customer service. Anthony had me wait 15 minutes at checkout while attending to a customer 10 steps away. The customer was asking a bunch of questions in the gun dept. Anthony could have easily excused himself, walked 10 steps, take 5 seconds with me and then return to the other customer. read more

This year Big 5 celebrates a landmark 60th Anniversary. They are celebrating through outstanding deals. The purpose of my visit was new hiking boots. My hiking boots were shot to the degree that my feet were feeling the shocks of the rocks and gravel on the hiking trail. This caused pain in my right toe. I cannot emphasize quality hiking boots. The boots I wore in the past were low quality. Last year I paid the price through months of limping that resulted in a serious of cortisone injections to the left leg. No way this was happening this year. Before headed out to the trail tomorrow I'd buy a pair of hiking boots. The difficult decision was where to buy hiking boots. The Las Vegas market is flooded with sporting goods stores. Then I recalled Norm. K's review on Big 5. His review influenced my decision to drive to Big 5. The neat thing is that it was a mile from my apartment. Big 5 differentiates itself from many of the sporting goods stores by having a smaller footprint and more convenient locations. In a way it is what Radio Shack is to the electronics retailers. This morning Big 5 was celebrating with a sidewalk clearance sale. There were outstanding deals on apparel and sneakers. The hiking boots were in the back. You could say the store is cluttered. The presentation reminded me more of a five & dime than a Target. When a store is cluttered with a large variety of merchandise at good prices, it is advantageous to the consumer. The selection of hiking boots blended in with the work boots and sneakers. The selection trailed in comparison to retailers such as REI and Bass Pro Shop. However, it was quality over quantity. The hiking boots and prices were remarkable. I appreciated that the majority of hiking boots were under $100. I did not feel that I should be buying $200 - plus hiking boots. The deals were just fabulous. I narrowed the boots down to two pairs. One was a Hi-Tech pair normally going for $69 selling for $39. The more expensive pair were Hi-Tech boots normally going for $89 selling for $59. I'd choose the later. From the minute I walked in the door to the time I left with the new hiking boots, the staff were friendly and helpful. The sales associate patiently explained the appropriate boots to wear for hiking on rocky trails before letting me try on both pairs. The benefit of trying on both boots was that I knew the more expensive pair that includes extra insoles provided maximum comfort. I also appreciated that the sales associate never tried to up sell me on the more expensive models. As a matter of fact, when I purchased the boots up front, he let me know that if I didn't like them for whatever reason that I could return them. In closing this review is also an Internet high 5 to Big 5 for 60 years in business. To be in business for sixty years in an industry flooded with competition Big 5 is doing something right. I have driven out of my way several times to come to this location. I went to the eastern and silverado store a few days ago and left disappointed. In this store I can't walk more then 10 feet without someone asking me if I need assistance. Its a completely different atmosphere. They stay fully stocked with just about everything for every sport. If ping pong is your poison they have that. If darts, archery, fishing, baseball, football,soccer etc are your thing chances are they will have what you need. The are always running some kind of a sale on shoes and athletic apparel. On more then one occasion I have stopped by and grabbed some last minute emergency piece of equipment like a moth guard, groin protector, even cleats. There layout is a bit chaotic which makes it seem unorganized but like I said they will help you find what you need. They want even try to up sale you on the fancy shiny stuff, if the generic gadget will work they tell you that. Its ALWAYS a pleasure shopping here. 10X better then the one on eastern. read more

Finally, a sporting goods store that has a good selection! Now...the disc golf selection was kind of...bad. They had their discs on one side of a column. Smallest selection I've seen so far, but the most varied in what discs they offered. But the employees were nice, and they actually had stock on their shelves. I'd go back for sure, just probably not for a specific disc unless I called first. read more

Walked in looking for some equipment for softball. I was greeted when I entered, but never followed up by anyone. I was needing help to find more quantities in the supplies I found, but as I wasn't approached in the 20mins I was there. The male sales associate with glasses and long hair helped the other 2 customers in the store but me. Yesterday, I walked into this Big Five Sporting Goods store to buy a Bolsu (exercise) Ball. I was immediately met with a beautiful smile belonging to Vanessa. Before she had a chance to say anything, I quickly asked her if she could help me. I used to frequent Big 5 a lot in the past. Just recently started shopping again for those sports necessities that your regular department stores just do not have. This location is great. Customer service cannot be beat. I have noticed that their prices on certain items are way jacked up. Good thing is that I know this and only buy items here that cannot be found anyplace else. I will continue to shop in the future. Years ago, I bought a great starters golf club set here for under $200. Goes to show you to shop the deals that cannot be found anyplace else and that's it. Located right by Trader Joes. This place has friendly staff, because as soon as I walked in, they greeted me, asked what I was looking for and even walked me to the item. Now that is outstanding customer service. Even when I got to the cash register there were 2 of us waiting to be rung up, another cashier came to assist. I think all Big 5 stores are a bit hard to maneuver through, and this one is too, but what I came here for, they had. Oh a shopping tip, Sometimes if you have an item that you just don't need at the moment, wait for their sales. Great sales, clean, lots of inventory so you never miss out. We purchased 3 Kayaks, fishing gear, active wear and camping items there for great prices. The way they display things is very helpful and at times too helpful and makes me spend more but that's ok. As a former store manager, the only thing I'd change and or recommend is having more staff in particular areas. For example, the first time I went, I had no idea what to look for when buying a kayak but I saw they were on sale. After shopping around for an hour without assistance in the kayak area, we found two yaks we liked but had to carry them down the escalator ourselves because we couldn't find anyone every time we looked around. The last time we went, the staff member in the yak department was experienced and knowledgeable and spent a good amount of time helping my Father select the right yak and equipment for him. I have a Big 5 in my neighborhood and found what I needed in the wrong size. I made a trip to the south east to browse some bigger stores and wound up here by default, as it was close by. I actually found what I was looking for and headed back to the shoe department to pick up some footwear for one of the boys. It's a good thing I wasn't in a hurry, as it took awhile to get the attention of one of the employees for assistance. The selection and variety here (any Big 5 for that matter) is not as good as some of the larger sporting goods stores, but if they have what you need, the prices are usually pretty good (especially sale prices). read more

This is our first time visiting this store. We're just here for a week vacation and my husband needed to look for a work shoe. He tried on a few styles and Deshawn was helping him and I was amazed on how great he is and it showed how he loves doing what he does. He knows how to listen to his customers needs and able suggest other options. He is so helpful and even went above and beyond. Since the shoe doesn't come with the size we needed he went made calls and check their other locations if they have it. Also Alex came to check on us and they were such an amazing team. We went to this store with the purpose of buying two pairs of shoes each, so four pairs total. That's a fair chunk of change to lay down in one visit. You'd think that any employee, when told of our goal, would be interested in being helpful. Well, you might think that, but what we got at this store was considerably less. The only reason I have given them a two-star review instead of one-star is that fact that we did come away with three pairs of shoes. The fellow that initially was helping us, once he likely realized we might need extra assistance because of my shoe size (women's 11, medium width) and my spouse's shoe-needs due to previous injury, did as much as he could to NOT actually help. He spent time talking with another employee on personal, non-work related topics. And then he went for a break, not letting us know, and instead, leaving a fellow who was obviously a new employee to come see if we were in need of more assistance. This poor guy had two other people ask him questions about socks, and he was not able to tell them where they were in the store, or even if the store carried them. He asked us a couple of times where the shoes we had tried on that were "no"s came from because he did not know and he was supposed to put them back. And yet he was left in charge of the shoe section on his own, with no one to assist HIM. Yes, my spouse did get two pairs of shoes at this visit and I did find one pair that fit (though the colour was not desirable) but it took a lot of time and effort on our part to do so. Also, I'm getting tired of arriving at large stores with supposedly great selection in sport shoes, only to find that once again, buying a women's size 11, NON-wide width is almost impossible, and that I have to "settle". There are quite a lot of us out there with longer shoe-sizes than the average women's 7-8, and I really rather wish that at least the larger stores paid attention to the needs of their customers. read more

I was very impressed how they have some quality items at great value. I was taking a trip to Toronto, Canada where it was 10 degrees. I found a Very Good quality Dickies Tan Jacket for $45!! With the thermals I bought at the store, I had no issues with the cold. The store was very neat, and the Young lady that was cashier, and the Manager were very helpful.
