Hands down the best big 5 I've ever been to. Extremely professional and polite. They are nice and hard working.

Truly and excellent selection of sporting equipment for all types of sports! My wife and I stopped in to pick her up some Hiking shoes over the weekend and the staff was very helpful. The store was also very organized and clean with lots of deals! It terms on hiking shoe selection they do have a decent amount of selection but most of the shoes are from the brand Denali which is exclusively sold at Big 5. Denali's are great if your looking for a budget option ~$30. They also had some Eddie Bauer & Hi Tec which are a good mid price ($40-$50). They were limited on the higher end options with only two pairs of Columbia ($70-$90). We ended up going with the the Colombia and my wife is thrilled because it's the most comfortable shoe. We both picked up some ecosox hiking socks and they are by far the most comfortable socks we've gotten! Which were recommended by the excellent staff. I'll admit that personally I've not been a big fan of Big 5 in the past because other stores have been cluttered, disorganized and picked over. But this store has changed my opinion! It seems to be excellently managed and I definitely will be looking here first the next time I need any sport equipment! read more

I bought a sweatshirt today and came home with the sensor on it. What?! The cashier's job is to remove the sensor! So annoying. I wish they had better customer service. If you put a sensor on an item, you need to take it off when customers pay!! read more

I bought the worker shoes a little more than a month ago. The heel already worn out. Need another shoes. What a waste of money.

This is the second time my review has been "lost." I come here a lot. Sure, it's no Dick's sporting goods or Sports Authority (RIP), but it's local and convenient. I come here mostly for their sales, but the manager, Steve, keeps me coming back. I swear, that guy never takes a day off. If you have to buy a long gun for a relatively fair price, you can't beat the lack of a wait. I've been to dedicated gun shops and the wait is alway, ALWAYS, painfully slow. The two times I've bought long guns (a Ruger Mini-14) and a Dickinson Arms Marine shot gun) have been quick and efficient. In fact, for Christmas my wife agreed to let me get the Dickinson on a black friday sale, so she waited in the car while I purchased the gun. It took all of 10 minutes...ON BLACK FRIDAY!!! Buying ammo is kinda expensive, but again, the convenience is worth it. If you look for the sales, you get pretty competitive. Not AMMO BROS competitive, but not overly expensive. The fishing gear here is really amateur, but that's okay since I'm not a diehard fisherman. For my 3 boys (aged 8, 6 and 3), it works. We also got some winter gear here (long johns, snow boots, mittens and a sled and disk. We got everything on sale and also had a 10% discount from joining their rewards club. My most recent purchase was a ProForm 505 CST treadmill for my wife for Valentine's day. The price was very competitive and less than on line. It had iFit and power adjustable include for a sale price of $599.99. I checked around, it was a deal. Poor Steve was the only guy working the day I picked it up, so he had to move this over 200 pound treadmill by himself. But he pushed through and even helped me load it onto my truck (boy I sure could have used his help moving it out and up the stairs to my house...). The sales and quick service keep bringing me back, but Steve is the reason why I choose this store. Keep it up, Steve... and take a day off, bro. Really. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. Went in for some baseball pants, last one left in the size I needed. Took it to the register and there was no price tag, so I told her I can grab another one in another size (which I'm not sure why I had to do her job for her but I was being nice) grabbed exact same pants in different size and proceeded to wait 8 minutes for her to find it in the system to charge me. Are you kidding me!?!!?? It's obviously same exact item, just scan the damn barcode so I can get on with my day. I just walked out, Don't come here unless you have 20-30 minutes to checkout. My Brother bought me a camping rocking chair and when I recorded it we realized the rivets weren't in the one of the legs. I went back to where he had bought it. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, it was so nice considering how things are now. They were more then helpful . They found me another rocker and helped me exchange it no problem. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon looking for a new pair of trail running shoes. Overall, I was pretty disappointed. Service was pretty bad and the shoes were a mess and unorganized. After walking around and looking at the display shoes, I found a few that might work. Unfortunately it was impossible to find them in my size because it was such a mess, but I was hoping that they might have some in the back. It took a few minutes to find someone to help, but they were able to find some in the back for me and then disappeared again. I had to walk up to the front in my socks to get a different size. Prices were good, but service was horrible. I'd rather go to REI or anywhere with even a resemblance of customer service and pay a little more. I don't see myself coming back here again. read more

3 young men working this afternoon. One of them came over to shoe department and was very helpful. One of the men sat on cashier table the whole time I was there. The other young helped me with my purchase. The hat I bought had sale tag $19.95 he charged me 24.95 less 20 % was more than 19.95. Noticed when I got home. When I called them I asked them if they had a certain soccer ball and they said let me check. I said ok then they put me on hold. We drove over to the store and we were still on hold. When we went inside they were just standing there talking to each other. We then left the store and were still on hold. After 20 minutes of being hold we just hung up. Wow, not sure the young mans name but his attentiveness was awesome. Immediately, upon my arrival at the glass case of secured eyewear, he popped out like a customer service ninja in a red dress shirt! Very accommodating and patient, as we all well know buying eyewear is complicated, sizing and previewing in the little miniature mirrors is difficult enough, without having some young impatience youth making you feel like your wasting their time. Not so here, not only did he bear through me changing my mind several times, he also assisted me in locating my additional purchases. The workers on the other hand needed to actually work and stop chit chatting about their personal lives and help assist customers. You also didn't know who worked there. I was in search of an adventure pass and this was my second Big 5 stop on Friday night. Maybe I just don't like driving down Whittier Blvd or awkward parking lots, but the location is not my favorite. Anywho, I walked in around 8:30pm and saw one cashier helping a line of customers. I'm sure she was doing the best she could and maybe perhaps was just tired, but she sorta had an attitude. She had switched registers to help the guy in front of me while another employee counted the register or something. When it was finally my turn in line, there was no greeting. The guy looked at me as if I was lost. I asked and paid for my adventure pass. The employees here seemed bothered by paying customers. Store is small compared to other Big 5 stores and I was a little dIsappointed in the price for low-quality, range ammunition. They have knives and BB/CO2 guns, but I'm not a fan of those (who is, really?). Dad needed shoes. He has really big and wide feet, and is housebound. I had previously grabbed a size 11EE pair of walking shoes and brought them to him, thinking I was good to go. Wrong. I returned here, and the salesman was very helpful in finding the largest, widest shoes. He told me which brands tended to be wider, and brought me size 12EE and 13EE. He recommended the 13EE, based on my description on how the 11EE's didn't fit on Dad's feet. The shoes fit Dad's Flintstone feet perfectly. Shoe prices are good, and get even better on sale. The staff are quick to call other stores to locate stuff they don't have in stock. (shoes, heart rate monitors, etc.) Although this store is smaller than other Big 5s in the area, it has the best service. read more

The customer service at this location is terrible. Consider greeting your guests when they enter the store. Also your floor staff should be asking customers if they need help finding something or if they have any questions about an item. Don't wait for the customer to have to try to find you or worse have to walk up to the check out counter to ask for help because no one is out on the floor. read more

I call this store and ask about a shotgun my husband's friend recommended because of the sale he saw. (We all tell people when we hear about a sale, same with shoes) i called and asked about the shotgun and specifications because I shoot competition trap. I needed to make sure it had a 28 inch barrel and removable choke. I didn't tell them my name. I just asked about the shotgun and told them why I needed specifications. "Me and my husband shoot competition trap". Exact words. They had no clue about the specifications. So I had to call mossberg directly to get specs. It was what I was looking for so I drove to the store and waited @10 minutes before someone came to the counter. They started helping a guy with a airsoft. The guy didn't buy it because it was broken. Then the sales guy had cocked it and didn't know how to uncock. So he told a lady he was going to go to the back and "pull the trigger". I was already getting a little irritated so I didn't tell him how to fix it. Then the girl came to me and I said what I wanted. She said "your the one that called" I said yes. She said very snotty "I'm not selling you the shotgun because you are illegally making a straw purchase. Then I got pissed. I said why would I do that? She said "you said it's for your husband". I went off. I said no I didn't I said we competition shoot. She said "I don't care" I said "so what's my name if someone called and said that"? She didn't know. She said she was guessing. I called corporate while there extremely pissed off. We have a meet on Oct 12th. With the 10 day wait I had to get it bought so I had my own gear. Corp. Stated they believed the store not me. Said I could not buy a shotgun unless my husband was present. So now I need a man? A female can't be trusted with a shotgun that shoots birds at the most. She said I can't buy it without my husband. I showed the girl the bruised shoulder I have and said "just because I am a girl doesn't mean I don't shoot". She said again "I can't sell to you only your husband". If my husband buys me a gun its a straw purchase. So essentially they were trying to coerce my husband into breaking the law. I left pissed off. So I went to another big 5 to get the shotgun I needed for the event. No issues, nice as could be. Finished up fast and was on my way. So this morning I was headed to Walmart to get bird shot for the event. A lady ran a red light and t boned me. Now I have no car and I am injured. My husband comes to get me. We get home, I call and made the insurance report. Not 2 seconds after I hung up and was ready to head to the hospital the big 5 in brea called me. They said the whittier store Called them to "warn them not to sell me the weapon". The whittier store didn't have my name! They singled me out because I called corporate on them. They only went by the fact I had blonde hair and bought the same model I was interested in. The brea store called me to tell me they were giving me a full refund and will not sell it to me. THEY DID NOT KNOW MY NAME at the whitter location. They completely singled me out. I went into the brea location to get my money back with my husband. They again tried to sell to him. Which is against the law! So off to urgent care. I called corporate from there. They again said they would not sell to me but would sell to my husband. I then called my gun rights groups. I am a very active member because I compete. They feel it's either because I was a woman which is discrimination and also we are looking at reporting big 5 to law enforcement for trying to coerce my husband into breaking the law. read more

Loyal customer for life! I went into Big 5 to purchase a coat for someone in great need. I was assist by Eric the manager who asked what I was looking for. Told him the story. He led me to a nice, warm jacket but it was a little more than I could afford. He said it was on sale and without hesitation he voluntarily gave me an extra 10% off. I was so impressed that this company would step up for a person in need. This single act of generosity spoke volumes and certainly made a loyal customer out of me. read more
