Good for sportswear, I think they are insanely expensive. I get here rather regularly by the Little Woman. Although she buys quite a bit I've found that the clothes don't fit me, ever. The sales staff is usually nice, it can be a bit sparse by the shoes, but I'm usually in the sales shoe area, lol. They have a large selection and I usually find cute sneaks there. The try on room is just one decent sized square, ask to be let in. Returns are usually easy, and the parking lot is large, even if it's busy from the Dollar Store next door. read more

Stopped by to grab a couple pairs of tennis shoes. I give the sales staff credit once I was acknowledged they were helpful getting all the shoes I wanted to try on and followed through with my questions. The reason I gave them a 3 is the location of the store. This is an edgy neighborhood and I would never go here at night and probably won't go back to this store certainly not alone. I did not feel my car would have been safe in this parking lot. But re this review I was able to get a couple pairs of shoes and my experience inside their store was a good one. Product selection is decent, prices are about average, service is lacking- I've come in a few times and there are staff present, but no one asks if I need help or addresses me in any way until I am checking out. Store is not particularly organized: resistance bands, yoga mats, and soccer balls and cleats can all be found on the same shelf for no apparent reason. While I was on it, I made use of the opportunity to look through more hiking essentials and ended up leaving with hand warmers, a cozy beanie (which looks like a cap) as well as a water bottle. Everything added up to to less than $40 thanks to the amazing deals. Make sure to keep yourselves on the loop with new deals that come up every week. You could save quite a handful! I kid you not: it has been hotter than hell upstairs in our second story since we moved in a week ago. I have terrorized my poor sweet husband with my remarks about how hard it is to sleep. On the first weekend I Constructed 5 fans faster than you can say "ice bath"! He was sweet enough to suggest we buy an air mattress and sleep on the lower, cooler floor. I love him so much!! We hopped in the car and raced over to Big Five. What does he talk about in his loud booming voice in the camping mattress aisle? "Cuddling". Shhhhh I said: everyone can hear us!! He said: "But if we want to be intimate we may need to go upstairs." Even in our regular Queen sauna bed we are not clinging to each other. Poor guy was so traumatized he picked out a queen high rise plus a twin. We are sleeping in the cool place tonight. Happy Wife Sleep, Happy Life... Big 5 has good deals but they don't always have the sizes you are looking for. I came into Big 5 to get a few pairs of shoes for someone, but they only had one size in the most expensive shoe, not the one I was looking for. They called around to the other Big 5's, but nothing. I do have to say, that the customer service did not pass my Helpful test. They were not enthusiastic about calling around, felt like I made them do a chore. Sorry, I made you work!!! But that was one employee I had to deal with, I can't say this about all the employees. The store is not located in the nicest area, often there are bums hanging around the store front and I don't feel incredibly safe with my doors unlocked. read more

I desperately needed a new pair of athletic shoes, and was sadly disappointed that the pair I bought from Zappos was the wrong fit. Thankfully, brick and mortar sporting goods has not gone by the wayside, and I was able to find what I needed at Big 5. I was greeted at the door by the cashier when I walked in, I was asked several times if I needed any help, and I was promptly assisted by the sales associate in the shoe department. This is one of their larger locations which means that its jam packed with stuff...that could be a good thing but this place was like a giant indoor swatmeet for sports and athletic equipment. It took me forever just to find a pump for a football. The staff didn't really help me out too much. They pointed in a general direction and just kind of walked off. Im happy there is a Big 5 on my side of town so I don't have to worry about going back to here anytime soon. read more

Today I went to this store to buy my hiking boots, there was this guy, his name is Sergio, he wasn't rude, but we looked like he hates his job, I asked him for help twice because he didn't come up to the customers to see if we were doing ok, he got me the boots and left, without saying anything. zero stars.I went in the store on Decatur 3 times. the first visit was a positive experience and unfortunately encouraged me to come back. The next "gentleman" in the gun dept was very rude, and didn't want to stop putting up signs to help me, so I left, and against my better judgement I went back later that day, still with my original goal of buying a little gun. The third sales "gentleman" was pleasant and had memorized all the appropriate closing questions... he got me. So i gave him the 25.00 for a credit check. Now he doesn't seem to want to talk to me or spend any more time with this sale. Not sure what the problem is but i'm sure my check will go through, but i won't buy anything from Big 5. I deserve more respect from these small people. I battle through traffic just to be treated terribly by these small people, Thanks for Nothing. By the way, most of their deals are junk.
