I visited this store this past Friday, 3 May 24 after having to go to several other stores. The service offered by the associates were impressive and remarkable. Brent was extremely knowledgeable and patient as I needed very specific items that had to spot on based on the circumstances of my purchase. Brent did an outstanding job making sure I had exactly what I needed and did so with professionalism and patience...thank you. Belle at the cash out was equally knowledgeable about my purchase as well as the pertinent sales discount available to me. I was in town for a volleyball tournament and needed to come in and grab some knee pads. This location is small and looked like it was fully stocked. I came in and I greeted the cashier. I asked her where the knee pads for volleyball were and she pointed and said under the sign. Well there are bunch of products "under the sign". The store was not busy and there was another employee available to handle the front so the young lady could've easily walked me over and showed me where they were. read more

I generally go to this Big 5 store to get my hiking boots. I have also purchased some hiking related items here and I have always been pleased with the price. The staff is helpful. The kind of boots I get are always being changed by the manufacturer - Hi-Tec - so I am sometimes on the go between stores to stock up on the models I like before they're gone from Big 5. Went to Big 5 yesterday (5/18/20)to purchase a stationary bike. After speaking to the sales guy Andrew, which was an amazing helper and had excellent customer service skills, he told me that he only had two in stock, one was going for $199 and the other for $179. After spending some time in the store and making sure I grab the right bike, I decided to get the one for $179. Andrew brought out the box to the register where there was this lady (the only woman working at the time) that looked like she wasn't happy working there. No hello, no smile, nothing! She rings up the bike and it rings up to $199. Andrew explained to her that it was $179 and he even went to grab the bar code from the bike. When she rings up the bar code that said $179, it rings up as $159, so I said "even better" the lady wouldn't sell it to me for that price or for $179. She told me it was $199 and just stood there while Andrew was apologizing for confusing the prices. I mentioned to her that I just spent a long time making sure I was grabbing the right bike and that Andrew assured me it was $179. She said "well, it's $199" Obviously her attitude bothered me and I said I wouldn't buy it for that price and that they just missed out on $180. Her response? "Don't worry, we'll make it up fast" as I was walking out the door. I should've turned around and request to speak to a manager but I was so upset I just got in my car and left. Not to mention, this store is literally around the corner from my house so I always go there. To the manager of this Big 5, I know that, as your employee said, you will make up the money with someone else, but it is not how you treat someone that it's just trying to buy a product from you, ESPECIALLY, in these times. I'm not upset at the fact that I didn't buy the bike because anybody could make a mistake, in this case Andrew didn't read the label correctly but he was apologetic and I know he felt bad. I'm upset that your employee made that comment to someone that went into your store happy. read more

Absolutely horrific. I bought a pair of roller-blades, and not 1 week after, they broke. The front wheels came off as I was going 15 miles an hour down the street in my neighborhood. Had I been on the actual street, I may have been hit by a car. DO NOT buy sport equipment FROM HERE, you may suffer injuries. What if I had been going faster? What if I had been riding at night? Yelp 100 Challenge * 95/100 Once again, I'm up in the clouds about why this Big 5 isn't getting as good a rating as it deserves. It has just about every item the Big 5 in Decatur and Charleston has and their weekly sales can't be beat. In my humble opinion, yes REI may have a wider variety but they also burn an average college student's pockets, so I'm all for Big 5. My galpal and I were here in hopes of finding good deals on water bottles since I lost mine last month. Nalgene and other BPA free water bottles had a mean of about $12. Remembering how I got my last Nalgene bottle for only about $6, I shook my head a little and my friend noticed, searched for other bottles and finally gave me the news. Since bottles are in season and the demand is higher - Las Vegans can probably attest to the increased water intake during summertime - retailers are taking advantage by bumping up the prices. Thankfully I got a bottle at home goods just a few hours later so wait till fall comes in to buy your summer stuff! But that's just me :P read more

My kids brought me here after observing the condition of my beloved Magnum Vipers (... not THOSE kind of Magnums! But to satisfy my kids' demands and to alleviate their embarrassment... I'll check it out at Big 5 to really see if they sell Magnum's. When we arrived... I was really surprised to find out that they DO sell Magnum's... just the high-tops, though. The sales price for the Magnum Vipers High Tops were around $59, best price on the Internet would be $79. BUT, and I really emphasize BUT, the width of the Magnum's on sale were "EE". In fact, all the shoes I was interested in were "EE". How odd is that? Models of every shoe I was interested in, only a "EE" width available... Is that a coincidence, or what? Now, I get it... Big 5 sells things, probably from other store's overstock, that are a really odd size. Good price, only if you're a "EE"... Didn't buy a thing... I came in with my husband and 3 year old daughter we came in and my daughter wanted to look at some stuff toys they had on the left side of the entrance so I walked over and soon as I did the employees looked at my little girl like a criminal like she was going to steal I kept an eye on her not to touch anything but the employees gave my daughter a horrible look. I felt so uncomfortable to know they do that I try not to let it get to me but as me and my family kept looking around all the employees kept following us like hawks I didn't understand why or what we did wrong we had nothing in our hands. I felt so uncomfortable and didn't even feel like purchasing anything. We look and a lot of people walked out and didn't last long inside the store, so now I know why? So we decide to leave and every employee just huddled by the entrance door and started talking among them selves. I called corporate multiple times during operating hours to talk about my experience and they would not answer and ring for a while or sometime hang up the phone. Tried calling to see if they had shorts without pockets (for flag football), kept getting an error message saying the fall couldn't be completed. Decided to drive down to the store, and a friendly woman greets me. I tell her the phones aren't working, and she says, "yeah....I've told my manager but I don't think he's done anything about it." Ok... I ask her if she has any shorts without pockets, and she says they do and points me to a section. They all have pockets. I go back to her but she's working the checkout line and apparently is the only one in the store. I tell her they all have pockets and she is surprised and is nice enough to walk back and check. She finds one pair of shorts without pockets, but they only have one size. I see another employee walking around and go ask him, and he says they do. And points me to the same section. I tell him they all have pockets and he acts surprised. He goes over and picks a pair and says that those don't. I point out the pockets right by his hand and he says, "oh...I guess we don't." Then he just yells for the woman working at the front and I have to tell him she already tried to help me. I alsotell him the phones aren't working and he says, "yeah..." And just walks away. Doesn't even finish the conversation. Just walks away. Apparently nobody at this store gives a crap about anything except for the woman who tried to help me despite being the only one at the store doing any work. read more

I walked in there to find jump rope for my wife and I to start doing something and get into shape. Someone greeted me at the register when walking in but never asked if I needed help finding anything. I found the exercise area and went through the whole process of finding what I need and walking towards the front without anyone asking me if I was okay or needed help. Why that's important to me, is because there was literally 2 people in the store and 2 employees. They should at least try to ask right? I passed by the other fella in the store and ironically he had to ask for help because no one approached him. I got to the register and the employee was friendly and they do have a military discount. But the interaction was just friendly. She never asked if I found what I needed or if I just need anything else. I feel like that's very important for business. The place is very clean though. Very organized as well. You won't have a hard time finding what you need but that's as long as they have it. If they don't have it, you might have a hard time because no one assisted you and you didn't know you were looking for no reason. read more

I go to the store on Maryland and have ALWAYS had a good experience with Big 5. I like that they stand behind the products they sell and whenever there has been a problem, as there was wt the RG Boots I purchased, they dont hesitate to accommodate you as a customer. The prices are very good and especially so on weekly SALE items. And as far as Customer Service goes, twice I have had the Manager call another store for a Sale item that was sold out to see if it was available & then went & picked the item up & called me to tell me it was in. THAT you dont see much these days!! So with the decent prices, the Customer service and the fact that there has never been any problems whatsoever I highly recommend this chain for all your outdoor needs. read more

Needed to get some mouth guards and they hand a couple to choose from. In a way I'm glad theres no more than 5 different ones or else I would have taken the whole day trying to figure out which one I was going to purchase. Minus 1 stars because they didn't have many women's rash guards AND a tiny rack for Youth Girls apparrel as well. I've been to this location a few times to get softball gear and the staff is always friendly and attentive. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because they were out of stock of an item I was looking for (a composite bat), but the employee who helped me even went so far as to call another store just to verify they were out and I appreciate the effort. I was in the market for a new pair of running shoes. Found a ok deal on a pair of Asics at a different big box store. Since I am new to the Valley I was educated about another choice called Big 5. I looked on their website and found they had a pair of shoes on deep discount in the same brand. Since I am not a ti-athlete or a marathoner new light weights are good for me. I was able to purchase two shoes for the price of the one I was going to buy. Best of all I called the store and had them find the shoes and set them aside so it was an easy in and out the store for me. Now I had to travel to two locations...Lake Mead and E. Craig but considering the fact of the deep discount I was aware supplies were limited. I am very happy with service and the sale prices at Big 5. They will definitely will remain on my radar of stores to consider when I need sporting goods. read more

Not a lot of selection - it's actually the smallest Big 5 I've seen - but I found what I wanted. I went in for a bathing suit and it was on sale so that was cool. The only thing that truly stood out was the people working. When I was paying the girl puts the receipt on the bag and immediately turns around to talk to her colleague. I've worked in retail - ask if I want the receipt with me or in the bag, hand me the bag, tell me to have a nice day. Don't act like people are inconveniencing you. read more

Came here to buy warm soccer clothes for my kids for when they practice. When I entered the store there were just a bunch of employees huddled up near the cash register "talking story" and didn't even offer me any help. So after walking around the store looking for the items I needed I finally went up to the cashier and asked for help. He showed me where the items would be but didn't seem to confident on if the items would fulfill my needs. I thought he would hang around me to see if he could be of more of an assistance but no he went back to the register area instead and just stand around. So I walked back to the register area to get more help and another gentleman just pointed to me where the items I am looking for would be. I believe there were like 4-5 workers working in the store and only like 2 customers in the store but no one to offer help to the customers? C'mon. Went to find some football cleats for my son they had two options on display NO SIZES, so the customer service rep tells me that they had more in the back, none which my son liked. He then told me that he could check other stores awesome I thought, he comes back tells me ok I put them on hold for you at the Warm Springs and Durango location (I was at Buffalo and Flamingo) So it was out of my way for me, but not to far from the store so I went. Arrived at the store, went straight to the back told the sales rep I had someone call from another store and put the shoes on hold, everyone looked at me like I was an alien speaking a language they didn't understand. Sales guy goes to ask the cashier, also lost doesn't know what i'm talking about. At this point they are all shuffling around trying to find out whats going on. They all looked lost seriously, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and call the first store because I was about to be really mad if they sent me to the wrong location (again, only because it was really out of my way I live in Summerlin.) They assured me they called them in and gave me the person's name. All of a sudden it clicked for all of them, and they proceeded to get the cleets. Why didn't they just call the store i told them i came from instead of just automatically assuming I was at the wrong store? A friend and I got off work went straight to big 5 on warm springs and durango to get last minute snowboarding gear for a trip to Mt. Charleston early the next morning...after trying on some gear and not finding his size in some pants he really liked ..we asked manager to call the closest store on buffallo...the store on buffalo had the rt size..so the manager let them know we wer on our way there it was 850p...we get to the store on buffalo at 857p.. the employees had already locked their doors and wouldn't help us as we looked at each other thru the glass doors ...i motioned and pointed to my watch angry that they would close early and do this after the manager called them to let them know we wer on our way...they both shrugged their shoulders and shook their head no...it was terrible customer service...i work in the same industry and It wouldn't have taken anymore than 5min to get us in and out ...this happened on Fri night Jan 30th ..there wer 2 employees a man and a woman at the register..they walked to the back of the store after they shrugged n shook their head no ... read more
