    Hiking boots. Good selection, generally.
    Norm K.

I generally go to this Big 5 store to get my hiking boots. I have also purchased some hiking related items here and I have always been pleased with the price. The staff is helpful. The kind of boots I get are always being changed by the manufacturer - Hi-Tec - so I am sometimes on the go between stores to stock up on the models I like before they're gone from Big 5. I like Big 5.

Yelp 100 Challenge * 95/100 Once again, I'm up in the clouds about why this Big 5 isn't getting as good a rating as it deserves. It has just about every item the Big 5 in Decatur and Charleston has and their weekly sales can't be beat. In my humble opinion, yes REI may have a wider variety but they also burn an average college student's pockets, so I'm all for Big 5. My galpal and I were here in hopes of finding good deals on water bottles since I lost mine last month. Nalgene and other BPA free water bottles had a mean of about $12. Remembering how I got my last Nalgene bottle for only about $6, I shook my head a little and my friend noticed, searched for other bottles and finally gave me the news. Since bottles are in season and the demand is higher - Las Vegans can probably attest to the increased water intake during summertime - retailers are taking advantage by bumping up the prices. Thankfully I got a bottle at home goods just a few hours later so wait till fall comes in to buy your summer stuff! But that's just me :P

When my husband asks, not only are they overly polite to him, but they thank him for his service. Mind you, I am the service member and he is the military spouse. I am always walking out ashamed because they are appalled that I had the nerve to ask for my own discount.

There is a lot of too name brands for athletic gear to chose from. From girls-women's and boys-men's. Even if you are needing golf gear or fitness equipment they got it. The store is very clean and pretty easy to navigate through. The prices are comparable to other stores. Yet, it depends on what store you're comparing it to. The service is where they have dropped the ball. One thing you will always notice is how the sales team is nowhere to be found. Most of the time they seem to back in the back avoiding customers. When they do assist you. They point where something is and truly don't want to help you at all. I have had multiple experiences like this when I have come in to pick up items. I will say July 4th weekend. An amazing sales associate named Vanessa truly went out of her way and helped me look for some items in departments she didn't even work in. She even went into the back trailer that is dark and hot to find a pair of girls Nike pants. Which I had been in there before looking for the same ones. The system said that they had one available. Yet it was nowhere to be found on the floor. While Vanessa was helping me. Her team associates were in the back and not on the floor. I was told that the store gets hit with people stealing a lot. I can see why. The sales associates aren't even on the store floor. They're in the back hiding or "doing work". I recommend the store for your next shopping experience. However, find Vanessa to help you. You won't regret it. She deserves 10 Stars for her outstanding work and dedication. Thank you once again Vanessa!

Amazing store for dog owners, outdoors people, hunters, fishers, boaters, campers, and more. Great…read moreselection, and great value. It is also a really fun place to visit even if you aren't shopping for anything specific. As a big-dog owner with a Doberman who is a service dog in training, I've now visited this store three times with my dog, and every trip has been fantastic. The store carries a huge variety of outdoor equipment, clothing, hunting and fishing gear, camping supplies, boating equipment, shoes, dog supplies, treats, toys, and more. I especially love the aquariums and taxidermy displays throughout the store--they make it feel more like an experience than just a store. There's also an archery range, outdoor seating, tractors on display, and a beautiful entrance with a wooden bridge over water. **** Why I especially love it for dogs in training**** For dogs that already have their basic commands down and are ready for more real-world exposure, I think this is an excellent environment. There are so many opportunities to practice: * Different surfaces: wooden bridges, smooth floors, carpet, stairs, rocks, etc. * New sights: taxidermy, boats, tractors, aquariums, hunting and camping equipment, and more. * New smells: fish bait, treats, snacks, clothing, shoes, other dogs, and people. (Smelling from a distance ofc, I don't let my dog stick her nose right up in there, that's rude haha) * Loose-leash walking and heeling: It's a large store, so there's plenty of room to practice navigating turns, corners, and aisles. * Down-stays: The many aisles make great opportunities to practice staying calmly while you browse. * Focus around distractions: On busier days, your dog may encounter children, adults, other dogs, and all the other activity that comes with a large store. * Tasking practice: For service dogs in training, it can be a useful environment to practice maintaining focus and performing tasks around distractions. * Confidence building: The variety of sights, sounds, smells, surfaces, and people can provide gentle exposure for dogs who need to build confidence. Of course, I would only recommend bringing dogs that are under control, non-aggressive, and have a reasonable foundation of basic obedience. And always follow the store's current pet/service-animal policies. As someone who can get a little anxious about whether my SDiT is behaving perfectly, I also appreciate how comfortable and welcoming this environment feels. I've had my dog do the occasional "drive-by nose boop" to someone we passed, and instead of feeling embarrassed, I've generally found people to be incredibly understanding and friendly. I've even met fellow big-dog owners and had conversations about Dobermans. One of my favorite moments was when my Doberman suddenly froze and intensely stared down an empty aisle with one paw lifted like she was "pointing" at something invisible. An employee and I both started laughing. **** Great for big-dog owners**** I've found their dog selection particularly useful for larger breeds. Because of the store's focus on outdoor and hunting dogs, I've noticed a better selection of larger-dog equipment than I often find at typical pet stores. They also carry things that can be useful beyond hunting, including scent-training supplies, life jackets for swimming, training equipment, toys, treats, and other gear. I could easily see using many of these products for scent work, dock diving, outdoor adventures, and general training. I also appreciate the selection of dog treats and the ability to find options with ingredients I feel comfortable giving my dog. **** Overall Experience **** The staff have always been friendly, personable, professional, and helpful--and sometimes genuinely funny. There's plenty of parking, and the outdoor area and entrance make the store feel inviting before you even walk inside. I also love that it's open until 10 p.m. on weekdays. To me, Bass Pro Shops feels like more than a store. It's almost like a little mini-world where you can shop, explore, train your dog, and see other people enjoying the store too. I highly recommend this place for hunters, boaters, fishers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts.... but especially for dog owners whose dogs already have a foundation of obedience and are ready for more real-world exposure and distractions.

My wife and I returned this morning, prepared to purchase the gym, which was approximately $2,000, along with some rubber flooring. The salesman, Travis, showed us several other brands, including some at significantly higher price points. One of the options he showed us was the Inspire M3, priced at $4,995.00. After discussing it, we decided that this was actually a better choice for our needs. Travis initially told us that, because the Inspire M3 is a single-stack unit, delivery and installation would be $285.00. We went home to measure the space where the unit would be installed and, while there, checked the Pacific Fitness website for additional information. That's when we discovered that Pacific Fitness' own website listed the Inspire M3 for $4,599.00. I took a screenshot of the advertised price. We returned to the store with our credit card, ready to place the order, and asked Travis about the $396 price difference. To our surprise, he told us that they had to honor the manufacturer's listed price of $4,995.00 and would NOT honor the price advertised on their OWN website. He also changed the delivery and installation price from the $285.00 he had quoted us earlier to $389.00. We asked him again if Pacific Fitness would honor its own advertised price. He said no. We asked to speak with the owner, and he refused that request as well. As we were leaving, we turned around and asked one final time whether they would honor the $4,599.00 price displayed on their website. Again, the answer was no. His explanation was that their website person only updates the website once a week and apparently had not gotten around to updating the price. At that point, we left. Later that afternoon, we purchased a home gym from another company at a significantly better price than what Pacific Fitness was offering. The experience was straightforward--no bait-and-switch, no games, and no unexpected changes in pricing. Based on our experience, we will NEVER purchase anything from Pacific Fitness again. We gave them multiple opportunities to make this right, and they chose not to. The way this situation was handled was extremely disappointing and left us feeling that our business simply wasn't valued. Horrible experience. I would strongly recommend checking the advertised pricing carefully and getting everything in writing before doing business with PacFitness.
