I was slapped by your sales associate. Yes that actually happened. I contemplated bringing this any attention. Big 5's website doesn't have an email that I can file this complaint under. I am a frequent Yelp user and decided to bring this matter here. 6/7/23 at 1:29pm Cashier:Casey A elderly woman with mid length hair. I was there to make a return. I was asked by Casey to place my card in the terminal, I entered my pin and the card was to be removed. Casey exclaimed that I did this wrong and I'd have to do it again. So I placed my card back into the terminal and then it prompted me to enter my pin, I motioned my hand over to enter the pin when Casey yelled"NO!!" And SLAPPED MY HAND I Said " do not touch me!" She continued to explain that I Wasn't doing it right and took over the terminal. Apparently I Wasn't supposed to put my pin in.... Why have your terminal ask me for the pin and then have an associate attack me for following instruction. Ultimately I did not appreciate being smacked. Casey later apologized for smacking me. I stayed quiet and left the store. I was in utter shock. Big 5 this was probably the worst display of customer service I ever experienced. read more

went in to purchase a pair of hiking boots. while checking out merchandise, i asked to use restroom. manager at store #38 on north tustin said store had no restrooms. said i needed to walk down the block to use McDonalds restroom. he was flat out lying, i suspect. very poor service. it's even probably against CA workers compensation laws for a store to not have a restroom. pathetic service. as it was, i bought the shoes anyway, but the service had much to be desired. read more

I used to go to this location all the time to get shoes. I went back to look at the shoes and stood there for quite a while. Nobody came back to assist. They were all up at the register, laughing. I own a doggy daycare and boarding facility nearby and I was on the hunt for a couple of plastic pools for the pups to play in as it was a very hot day. No other places I called had any. I called big five and they had only two in stock and was willing to put them aside for us to come pick them up. They were very helpful over the phone and when we arrive they had the pools put aside for us. Great customer service, and a great selection of products. I have been to this store many times for different things and have always received great customer service. I would definitely recommend this particular big five. read more

Oh man. I have never left a negative review before because I usually just brush it off. I also try not to generalize all of the staff based on a single interaction, but my experiences at this store have always been negative. I went to get some shoes with my brother and everyone was so dismissive. I understand that stores are understaffed but everyone else was getting helped but us. It truly felt like we were being discriminated against. Not sure if it was because of our race or because we were wearing masks when nobody else was. We had been waiting for the gentleman to finish helping an elderly lady with her shoes. He definitely saw us, but didn't say anything or acknowledge us. I mean, that's fine. However, as he finished helping the lady, another gentleman came by and he went to help him instead of us. Perhaps it's all in my head, but this happened twice. He helped out the white gentlemen first and didn't bother to even try to help us. He went to them, even when they weren't looking for help. All while my brother and I just wanted to buy some shoes. I wish I had gotten his name. I don't want to judge all the staff based off this one man, but each time I go to this location I leave upset for similar reasons. I know of a couple other people who have had similar experiences. I guess I just better not go back, but I figured it's important to speak up about. Customer service sucks. Cashier Lynette? didn't even greet me, literally was too busy flirting with Logan and serving me seemed an inconvenience. The only words she said to me was my total as she continued to converse and flirt which is obviously more important to her than helping customers. She just laughed and used cursed words, crazy to pay people now a days for sitting on a stool to be on your phone and talk flirt with each other. Dang it! "Big 2"...Not Big 5 Yes, "Big 2 Stars!" Quaintly located in the lovely town of Orange, "Big 2 Stars" is nestled between the lovely KFC and the enchanting Mc Donald's drive-thru. I need a small tent. What do I do? Walmart...heck no. Target has small selection. Ok, Big 5 is in the middle. But, man do I dislike coming here. Every time I come, there is no one to help me. Guess what? Yup, they didn't help again. After stumbling through all the tents and reading their specs, I helped myself in discovering they did not have what I needed. Apparently, the other guy was busy organizing stuff behind the gun counter. Weird, when I was leaving the girl behind the counter asked if she could help me. I said, "nope just leaving." I would give a negative 5 star if I can. This placed ripped me off two times in a row and they dont even care. 2 weeks ago I bought a pellet gun and returned it. It was $200. out of that money they gave me $60 fake counter fit Bill's. I lost $60 they wont give back to me after going there and complaining 2 times to the manager Jeff who didnt care at all to make it right. After they repaid me in fake money I purchased 40ct 12gram co2 a week later. Went home and opened the box. 1 co2 cartridge was missing and 3 were already used and punctured and taped up to hide it. I came here looking for Dodgers merchandise but did not find any. I did see some Angels items but not what I was looking for and not in large quantities. Though the store was ok, not huge but they had all the essentials. A place where you can get weight equipment, shoes, socks, sporting gear, bait, camping items and more. I just Had the Jekyl and Hide Experience at this Big 5. I was looking for 2 kayaks. Not as easy as it may seem. But this location Not only had 2, they were the two I was looking for. Billy A helped me make my purchase, and other team.members helped me load them into my truck. A Great store Experience. I get home to find Both Kayaks are missing important pieces. One is missing the seat Bottom, and the other is missing the Trap cover. The latter missing piece makes the Kayak unsafe to use. So I called the store and inquired about the missing pieces. Again good service, said they would.look and call me back. 10 Minutes later I get a call back from the Store Manager Andreas. He informed me they didn't have the pieces and was I Sure they came with the Kayaks. I assured him I was looking at the parts list for both and bother missing pieces were listed and pictured. He then offered to return the kayaks. I don't want to return them I want to use them. Can you get me the missing parts? And that's where it started to go South. No. They will not get me the parts. No, they will not call the manufacturer and order them. Either i handle it with the vendor, or return them for credit. No Help. I said you charged me full price, i expect full boxes. It's your responsibility, you sold it to me. At that point i asked him if he was going to do his job and help me. Andreas said "No, but here is our customer service number".... Very... Unprofessional. I then Called Customer Service for Big5. Melany Answered.... She was AWESOME.... She found my reciept. She contacted the vendor. And they will send me the parts. I travel a lot for work and I visit my favorite sporting goods store Big5. I've visited location like Vista, Solana Beach, Oceanside, Rancho Cucamonga, and now the location in Orange. Walked in and asked for help to buy some utility/camping knives to give as gift for my friends. As soon as Jeff came out he is not a happy guy. It's like he doesn't want to be bothered, a bit abrupt and moody. I told him I want to buy the last four of their MTech USA M-85GY in spear point and tanto point knives. When he opened the empty boxes the plastic sleeves to cover the blades are in the box and told him I want the plastic sleeves as well. But he refused to give them to me. He said the plastics sleeves belong to other knives in the store. Obviously the sleeves belongs with the knife and told him it's fine, just put them in the box and I'll slip them back together when I get home so when I give them to my friends they look presentable. But then he grab them from my hands and took them. So I asked for the manager and spoke to Andres and complain about Jeff's attitude and lack of professionalism. Andres told me that he is one of the managers. What?! If he is one of the managers why does he act like that?! Jeff is moody, impatient, and unprofessional. Maybe his age is catching up on him and getting tired of the job. Also also asked for some particular item in the store and he flat out said they don't have it without even checking. I found the item I was looking for but since Jeff is being a professional a-hole I did not purchase anything else. Jeff please take a break and find your happiness. read more

I brought my weight set back to possibly return because the barbell screws were too tight to unscrew off with the Allen wrench that was provided. Garret and Jeff the supervisor were very kind and helpful, using their strength to get it detached and put together correctly. I'm so happy and appreciative with their customer service!! I've shopped at this Big 5 for 20 years or more and have never really loved the store. It's convenient and that's all. Today I went online and found an inversion table listed at $114 (reg price $229). Great deal right?! It also said sold in stores only. I verified one was in stock the went there with my son to purchase it. I found the sales tag in the exercise section and brought it to the front to purchase it. I informed a manager named "Ryan" of the sale price listed on the Big 5 website. I showed the price and he said he believed he had an email from corporate that prices were wrong online. I told "Ryan" that wasn't my problem and I wanted the table for advertised price. "Ryan" said he would not give it to me for the advertised price and I could call corporate and discuss the issue with them. I told "Ryan" that I would like him to handle that and he refused and handed me a business card with an 800 number. I again told "Ryan" they needed to honor the price and he again refused by saying "anyone can hack a computer system." I was offended and asked if he was accusing me? "Ryan" rolled his eyes and said he never said I hacked it. All the while, all but 1 employee were crowded around the small register area chatting. One employee was even eating hot Cheetos while talking to another employee who was ringing up a customer. I took a screenshot of the ad (luckily) then called customer service who was, of course, closed. I went to show my wife the ad and AMAZINGLY they somehow went into the system and changed the price. Got a fishing rod from big five on Tustin Avenue a few months ago unfortunately the rod snapped when I was fighting a fish I wasn't sure how big five in orange was going to handle the situation but the manager, I'm not sure of his name , said looks like you got a broken rod and I said I really hope you guys can help me out he said not a doubt no problem and the transaction was really easy he gave me a brand new rod took the old rod and even asked me how big was the fish no questions no nothing no receipt just gave me a brand new rod so I then proceeded to continue shopping I got some sunglasses a couple tackle boxes a couple shirts and that's why this is my favorite big five sporting goods I recommend . My visit here was utterly disappointing. As someone who has never visited a Big 5 store (we don't have them where I'm from), I was kind of hoping that it would be similar to Sports Authority or Dick's or something. *Slap in the face* NOPE. So the store itself is pretty easy to spot off of the main street, with a nice big sign. But the parking lot is tiny, with room for maybe 10 or 15 cars max. Moving on to the actual store. The store is also quite small, and it's arranged in a sort of cluttered/TLC Hoarders kind of way that makes the store seem dingy. Also, the whole place is in serious need of a remodel. I felt like I had stepped into a store that hadn't changed much since the 80's. Not a good thing! Anyways, I like to shop without salespeople bothering me, so I wasn't irritated at all by the lack of employee attention, but I can see how some people may not like that. I walked around for a few minutes looking for the Under Armour gear, and found like 1 or 2 small carousels of randomly assorted shorts and shirts. Overall, there's like 4 carousels of men's clothes in the whole place, so if you're looking for clothes, go elsewhere! All in all, they have some selection of stuff here, but I don't see why I would come here when there are stores that are cleaner, newer, and 10 times as big. read more

To start off very poor management team at this store, managers do not know how it is to manage employees yet have experience in the management field. Managers at this location do not seem to know how to control there employees. To have employees go around the store talking like no one is listening about employees having relations at work is very unprofessional. These Yelp reviews should say a lot to the management team regarding Lynette? And Logan? Work place environment is no place to have relationship as a manger you were taught that in day one these managers simply can not discipline or discharge employees for these kind of actions which shows employees have full control over managers work relations are not allowed and customers are hearing these conversations shopping at your store very unprofessional. And to still have these employees working? Went into this location for a few different things and was very pleased with the service I received. Jeff the store manager was extremely helpful, answered all of my questions, and even searched the back for a specific item that I could not find out on the store floor. With Covid so many stores have been lacking in customer service but this Big 5 and Jeff along with his team are far from lacking. This store almost always delivers great service . The employees are helpful if you ask them. No one asked if I needed assistance and at least 5 employees saw me and my gaggle of kids. I was in this Big 5 on Saturday, June 29. There were 2 dark haired guys (one with glasses.) up front. I asked one of the guys to help me find a tee for tee ball. He seemed annoyed and pointed over to the wall. I still couldn't see it, so I told him. Then he walked and pointed it out again , and told me to pull them out. I told him that I could not do that . Military Discount- what is it anyway, its really not about the money because it's generally never over 10% which in most cases just saves the patron/service member the tax on the items purchased. A military discount to me is more about patriotism and a show of gratitude for service. I just learned that Big 5's are not independently operated yet the store manager reserves the right to refuse a military discount. Ryan- the store manager at Tustin Ave store just refused a discount even after I explained that the store local to my house Lake Forest honors military discount on a consistent basis. I'm disappointed that Ryan felt so strongly about charging 5-10% more and losing a customer for life than honoring a simple very doable and respectable discount. Shame on Ryan and Big 5 on Tustin Ave for not authorizing the request/discount even though all of his employees agreed with me the patron that he SUCKS! read more

This particular Big 5 is both good and bad. I have found a lot of items are in stock here when they are sold out elsewhere. This makes me a bit suspect on why. At this point, I believe I know the answer. The manager here unlike almost any other location for Big 5 will not negotiate anything. It is strictly what is in black and white on the price tag or yellow and black if something is on sale. Pro Tip: They have a large selection here. Consequently, if something is a coupon price I will go here to purchase it. If it is not on sale or if I am anticipating purchasing a large amount of stuff, I wont do it here. Overall this location is bleh. So what if you have some stuff in stock, if you wont work with a buyer on a higher priced item or bunch of them or even price match a competitor, then why buy here? One of the only Big 5's anywhere in the area. Been coming here for the past 20+ years and have always been able to find what I've been looking for. Wish they were in a little bigger of a location so they had more stuff but they are one of the longest lasting sports stores I've seen in north Orange County and that's pretty good in my book. Service is good, prices are a little steep but once again not much for competition around the area so when your in need they've got you covered. read more

Bad customer service. Requires retraining. I was there Sunday April 30th 11:16 am. I'm not going to put the girl's name on here because I don't want to put her on blast, but I walked up with my items and said hello and received no response from her. No greeting, no smile, no acknowledgement at all. Not even eye contact. When the transaction was complete I said thanks and walked out. Again I got no reaction from her at all. No "thank you". No "have a nice day" etc. Looked like she was oblivious or not paying attention at all. Customer service people should at least be expected to do the bare minimum of saying "hello, thank you, have a nice day" and simply have a polite smile or demeanor. That would just be barely acceptable as customer service. I'm sure the girl at the cash register there is a nice person and I understand it gets boring, tiring or annoying to do that sort of job, but at least have some consideration for the way you make people feel as a customer.
