I live around the corner from this location. Upon walking into the store we were greeted by such a nice and very helpful employee named Raul. My son and daughter were with me and we initially went to get her a Jansport backpack and he was very helpful in getting it down for me since they were hung high on the wall. My son needed a pair of running shoes and he went above and beyond in finding a great running shoe for him since it will be his last year in high school cross country. The store was clean with lots of nice displayed gear. We went for a swimsuit and goggles. All was simple to find as the cashier immediately directed us to the location and easily found what we needed. I can say in and out within 15 minutes. I recommend this store. Love this Big 5. The service is so friendly and pretty fast. I went there with my grandson to get concert noise cancelling headphones. The employees were super helpful and when I was not sure the kids size would fit him, they just opened the box and said, "Let's try." They were a perfect fit. He walked out so happy with his purple headphones. Parking is a breeze right in front of the store. They have a great selection of all sporting goods, including guns, if you are into that. I like this location because it's near OCC and Costa Mesa tennis center where I sometimes play. So, I just bought another of the same tennis racket I've been playing with for about three months. I've been waiting for weeks for this racket to be on sale again, Finally it was. Surprised they had my correct grip size. Not only that, they had Wilson Tennis Balls (not as good as Penn for a hard court) but it was $2.00. There is almost always tennis balls at a sale price at Big 5. The same can be said about everything at the store. Just wait, and they'll put it on a special price. This Big 5 is pretty busy at times, and service is spotty. But early on a weekend morning, it wasn't bad. Like all Big 5s, the sale shoe area gets messed up sometimes, but the shoe guys do a decent job of keeping it under control. Every good tennis player knows that Big 5's tennis rackets are the older overstocks. I have no problem waiting three years from a rackets first release and pay a discounted price. So my new racket cost $80 instead of it's $225 newly released price. I've also bought some decent New Balance and Nike cross trainers with an extra wide width here. I know I could've written this review about any Big 5, but this is where I bought the racket and balls. Check out the prices during the holidays. They have some really great deals o n watches, sweat suits, and other exercise stuff. You might want to avoid this place when the pet store next door is giving shots. You can see the line of dogs and their masters extending out to the parking lot several times a year. The parking will be impossible, and sometimes you get a mean dog that is in a bad mood because he knows he's getting shot. His bite will be as big as his bite! Otherwise, this Big 5 is convenient because it's also close to Home Depot, K Mart, and all the fast food places you shouldn't eat at. read more

Found what I needed! For a last minute trip to the snow I couldn't find any snow gloves and snow boots for my son. I checked OfferUp and Target but they were either unavailable or too expensive. I bought some gloves at Target out of desperation $20/each (for a one time venture) and thought to check at Big 5 after. Thank goodness I found them at $10/ each! I was able to get the gloves for 4 people and some boots for my son at $30 (bought a size up for next year). OfferUp had used ones for $30+ so I knew it was in the range. Also, I had bought a snow board that I ended up forgetting at home so returned back a few weeks later for a refund. The process was quick and easy. read more

So I decided to buy at Mossberg Shotgun at this location. I go on a Sunday evening and an employee shows me the shotgun. He then starts showing me another shotgun and gets me all pumped about buying it. I throw my ID on the counter and say, "I'll take it!" The employe then says, "sorry sir, I'm not authorized by the state to sell firearms!" I'm like ok, then call whoever you need to help me. He then says, there's no one here that can sell you a firearm, you'll have to come back tomorrow and buy it when my manager is here! Well I'm really excited about this shotgun, and it was a holiday weekend and I wanted to get the shotgun while it was still on sale. So I returned the next day (Monday) and I purchased the firearm. Now due to California's strict gun laws, I have to wait 10 days to the minute to get my shotgun. In those 10 days, I was so excited about getting my new shotgun, I called all my friends and scheduled a clay pigeon shooting day, the day after my 10 day waiting period. I returned on the 10th day and I walk in and I see the kid who initially wasn't able to sell me my gun. I figured that I was just going to pick it up there would be absolutely NO PROBLEM.. Well.... BOY WAS I WRONG!!! I went up to the kid and said proudly, I'm here to pick up my new shotgun!!! He then said, well did you call this morning? I said no, why would I call? I waited the time I was supposed to, now can I get my shotgun!? Well apparently he is STILL not able to sell firearms and couldn't hand me my shotgun and that the manager who is able to give it to me had to leave for an "emergency". I was PISSED!!!!!! Why have a place where you can purchase guns and NOT HAVE a person who can sell guns at the location AT ALL TIMES!!! Look, I understand "emergencies" happen, but have someone else there that can sell/or give people their guns THEY PAID and WAITED for!! I'm supper pissed off!! I did what I was supposed to, I paid and waited the legal time for my gun and now I can't get it!! Now, I can't go with my buddies shooting tomorrow!! My family and I went to Big 5 sporting Goods. It was my first time shopping here. We went in because we received the coupons for the shoe discounts. I was extremely happy we walked out with six pairs of shoes for less than $100! What a deal big 5! The reason why I am also giving this review a five star is because of Angelica the cashier. She was very friendly, she asked me and my family if we needed help and explained to me how the coupons worked. Once we checked out she was there again. The gentleman that helped my son find shoes for work was incredibly helpful and when dealing with a 14 yr old that was exactly what he needed. I purchased a gun. I got my paperwork stating to come on july 11th at 6:30 for pickup. I get there at 6:30 on july 11th and theres noone there thats authorized to give me the shotgun that i paid for. The manager that was there was useless and told me to come tomorrow.Its total bullshit that i bought it and cant pick it up at the time it says to pick it up.I suggest buying from a actual gun shop if you need it on time. I did get the gun from the authorized manager the next day. He is very nice and has great customer service unlike the other Manager.Everything is overpriced except some of the guns. Perhaps I'm a bitch (perhaps? pffft), but I expect a bored customer service representative with no customers to make himself busy and find something to do. The floor was a mess and nothing was where it should have been. Would it have been too hard for the people to keep the store presentable so that it's easier for people to dish out some dosh? At any rate, Eric came out and did what was asked of him. I got my shoes and on my way. Pity that they hurt like hell once I had them on for longer than 3 minutes. Going back today to return them. I was not totally impressed by this selections in various sports departments (if you want to call them departments...maybe more like "sections". Their golf section was less than stellar. I also wasn't totally sold on their women's apparel. Even their "Sale" product wasn't spectacular. The staff was friendly and attentive, asked me twice if I needed help. I was mostly browsing. The plus side was that I found PINK soccer socks for $4.99 and they were regularly $7. Can't beat that. I was thinking, "Yeah, they should have plenty of football gear." Then I was like, "Where's all the football gear?" Seriously, They had plenty of soccer equipment, cleats and clothing, but hardly anything for football. Sure they had some cleats, but I was looking for gloves, footballs and some gear. Very limited to none basically. No employees were in that area to help or ask me if I need assistance. Great deals on older stuff (shorts and shirts), which I capitalized because I didn't want to leave empty handed. Maybe it was just me, but the store seemed really small and dead? Perhaps it was a slow day, but they should really focus on the bigger sports and carry more items? At least the cashier was nice and polite and asked me if everything went well. I love our local Big 5 I have always gone to this store for cheap sports equipment and shoes. The store is pack from top to bottom with great deals. It is a pretty busy store so if you go I hope you go before or after a certain sports season because everybody and their mother are in there getting cheap shoes etc. etc. I love to spend my money in my city and this place has friendly kids working here and I like their selection of stock.
