With a wide selection of sporting goods, big five is the store to come to if you are an in the Town center! There is another sporting goods store , which is further and down in Betteravia. I found the item that I was looking for a locked box in the size that I wanted and the weight that I wanted. it is a nice experience when stores carry items regularly. Pricing was reasonable for the item that I was purchasing and finding the item locally help me to get the item in the day that I needed it instead of going online and having to wait for two days. The cashier for was polite and explained to me clearly the return policy from the store in case that I needed it, which I didn't. A few months ago my husband and I went into Big 5 looking to purchase a kids trampoline with safety net for our 2 year old. The one that we wanted wasnt on the shelf so we asked the only employee in the entire store apparently if we could get some help, he informed us that he has 3 other customers before us and he'd be with us when he could. We very patiently and willingly waited because we wanted the item but also because we both work in customer service and know how stressful it is to be undserstaffed. After waiting about 30 mins he came over and said they didnt have any in the store that we need to go to their website and order it OURSELVES and that we have to pay shipping and handling. Wow After going on my phone to their website trying to order it, it told me I wasn't able to order that item online I have to purchase it at a store lol We informed the associate of this and he told us just go up to the register and theyll do it. After waiting in for another 20 mins the cashier said she could order it from their pismo store but it would take 3 weeks very frustrated at this point I just said fine they took our information and said they'd call us. IT HAS NOW BEEN 3 MONTHS AND NO CALL THIS! THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE IS WHY PEOPLE SHOP ON AMAZON AND THESE PLACES GO OUT OF BUSINESS. NOW YOU CAN STOP WONDERING. I had a coupon for a pair shoes. I asked the young lady where are the shoes and she took me to the shoes but she told me these only children's shoes. And I turned around to ask you where is the woman shoes and she really walked away not even helping. I was looking for sports tape to help me walk due to runner's knee. I called to see if they had it which they did . I went on my lunch to go pick it up . Went in the store and asked where it was . There were two employees just standing around . The older man said up the stair against the wall. So I hobble my ass up the stair to against the wall . Which wall ? My friend was helping me look since I was in a lot of pain. We are looking like crazy . She finally finds it in a aisle in a end cap rack . So I'm like at that point want to wrap it around his neck . We shop here a lot figuring both my my sons play sports but ever again. We came in on a Tuesday night about 6. We had about $300 worth of stuff we wanted to buy when all of a sudden my little guy (6) had to go to the bathrooom. I asked he gentlemen at the front, mind you my son was already doing the "peepee dance" if he could use the restroom. He look at me and then at him and said "it's for employees only". Now mind you I would be ok with this if he wasn't CLEARLY 6 years old. I asked him again and said he's only 6 and I will leave my purse with my husband. Today I was in Big 5 in Santa Maria and the employees just kept helping the men. No problem, but there were a couple of ladies with children that should of been helped first. It that the culture at Big 5, as a man I had to ask the manager what was going on. Then they got some help. Management better check their hiring process or their employees better get training on gender issues. read more

This Big 5 is okay in selections and deals. The only thing is the workers are unprofessional when it comes to customer service. Not approachable, helpful or knowledgeable when it comes to the specific products within the store. read more

I came in the store to buy a gun, because it was my birthday as i approched the counter i see this white guy and white girl they looked like managers instead of approching me and saying hello how can i help you they both left one in the little supply room and the other near the shoe area, no sence of customer service. read more

I love big 5...you can pretty much find everything you need here for fitness. I dont recommend buying weights here though because they can be very pricy. I love the shoe sales they have..i have bought adidas running shoes for like $25 bucks. read more

Employees are friendly and helpful. You might find stuff cheaper at Play It Again Sports, but these guys have just about everything! From pepper spray to guns to Frisbee Golf and Horseshoes which are are must have when living next to Waller Park.. The first two items are not for the park- just the last two. :-) read more
