The last time I went to this location of Big 5 was two weeks ago on September 10, 2025. I went here with my provider, Karry, because I needed to buy some new knee braces. I sprained my knees in 2002 when I was living in Baltimore, Maryland, when I was going to school at the Maryland School For The Blind. I was making my bed, when I started to turn, then I heard this pop, and I felt this pain! The nurses there told me that I actually dislocated my knee caps, so now I have to have knee braces when I walk and work out on the row machine, otherwise my knees lock up and it causes excruciating pain! The last pair of knee braces I bought in 2023 with my provider, Kendra, only lasted until this year, when the Velcro came loose and I was struggling to make them stay on my knees. Those ones were $20 a piece. This year, I bought a stronger pair of knee braces, which I really love, as they actually stabilize my knees when I walk, and I'll probably have a more comfortable experience with my workouts on the row machine. The cool thing about these new knee braces is that they have metal on either side, instead of plastic, and they're a thicker version of Neoprene. Better yet, they actually don't trap sweat like the other knee braces did! Although I will say that they're tough to slide off after wearing them for a few hours! Compared to my old pair, these ones were $55 a piece! Strangely enough, both pairs were made by the same company, Mueller Sports Medicine! The woman there unfortunately threw an L-Bomb at me and my provider (she called us "Ladies", which I hate with a passion!). I told her, "Actually, ma'am, we're girls!". Then she said it a second time, this time in a more taunting tone! That evening, I had to report her to her manager, and he called me the next day, and he said he talked with her about it, and he promises it won't happen again! He explained to me that she was new at her job, and she hadn't learned that customers need to be treated fairly, not humiliated and insulted! I give Big 5 a solid 5 stars! My granddaughter needed softball equipment. When I walked up to the wall of baseball gloves, I was overwhelmed. However, a young gentleman came to assist us. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful picking out a glove, the proper size bat for softball and equipment bag that was affordable. Even though dicks, sporting goods is huge, and has a lot inventory, it lacked the personal assistance that we needed and Big 5 in Springfield provided! read more

I saw an exercise bike I've looking for was on sale at Springfield Big 5. I walked in the store and there were two employees at the desk. No greeting what so ever. No hello,no can we help you? They both left down an aisle, but in plain siight of me. I sat on the bike and decided to get it,but still no interaction. I heard voices down another aisle and two employees chatiing. I stood near the checkout stand still no one came to assist me. I was the only customer in the store. I decided to leave. One said "Have a good evening" I said "Does anyone work here?" She looked puzzled. I said no hello,no how can I help you, no cusomer/ employee interaction at all. I said this is what poor cusomer service looks like. I'll order it from somone else online. This place had really great sales on air mattresses, but we almost didn't purchase any from here because we didn't know about the sale as it wasn't posted until we took it to the register for a price check. It would be awesome if prices and sales were marked clearly. I'm leaving 3 stars because the staff was super helpful at the front! read more

Store placed deceiving signs on door that Jansport & Adidas backpacks on sale. When charged full price, store employees had ZERO idea of the sign on the door when questioned on sale. Then proceeded to remove it when I called them out on it. Staff then said only certain ones were on sale. When I pointed out that it does not state that on the sign, she continued to state it was only certain items on website. Again , ZERO valid response when quoting sign wording. Store does NOT honor their advertisement and staff are completely unaware and incompetent. Though I have purchased here in the past, I WILL NOT be shopping here again at a company that uses false advertising and I will be posting reviews on any platform available to warn others before shopping at this store. read more

I find this to be the most boring sporting goods store ever. There's a million others out there that are bigger and better. Part of it is the fact it's a very small store, so the selection is limited. I'm not even really sure how they stay open, given Cabela's is so close and is the definition of bigger and better. I've never been impressed with the store or the employees. I've never had a bad experience here, but nothing stands out either as being special or memorable. Employees are just kind of there, and nothing more than warm bodies taking up space. Parking isn't spectacular. It's a tiny lot for starters. Cars can drive around the entire building, so you never know when someone will come flying around the side of the building as you're trying to back out, and you'll never see it until it's too late. It's also dark in that area, so you never know what you'll encounter in the parking lot. I'm not a fan of unpredictable meth addicts lurking in dark places, and that is the perfect place for them to do so. It's not a store I go to often or have any real interest in returning to, as it bores me and I feel like it's a waste of my time. I'd rather go to Cabela's. read more

I stopped in late and was in a hurry to get somewhere else. The young lady working here, Zoe, asked if I needed help, and I said yes, and she immediately helped me find exactly what I was looking for. She was friendly, courteous and made me feel like a valued customer. I will absolutely return to this store for any thing I need in the future. Went in to buy a pair of shoes. I buy the same brand and size every time. They were not busy but service was slow and inattentive. When someone finally realized there were customers in shoe department they had no idea who was first. I waited until was asked if I needed something ( why else was I there?). Told them what I wanted, then was brought wrong size. Had to show clerk where size is shown in shoe. Finally got right size, paid for purchase, and departed. This is why I shop online. Customer service was nil. Employees standing in groups chatting and oblivious to why they are there. Will only go back because I like that particular shoe. read more

This place has awesome sales! Last season I got a fabo tent and sleeping bag for 60% on some random sale. They were both coleman, so it's a decent brand. Huge variety of sports equipment as well as shoes, and clothing. New one opening on 11th soon. read more

came here with my partner tonight and unfortunately had a bad experience. we caught the entire staff staring/watching us and was followed by someone named Trinity around the entire store, thinking we were stealing. it was extremely uncomfortable, and being that we were doing nothing wrong, we purchased our items, and left the store deciding to not come back. Big 5 is an interesting store with cool products but unfortunately an undertrained staff with poor judgement. read more

They have a crappy selection of shoes, cheap and way too big, I hardly ever have a problem finding shoes, but here the shoes are crap.

The cashier, Gustin, was completely courteous and conversational while we were waiting for the manager to retrieve more cash to break a large bill. However, Brandon, the Manager, was completely rude to Gustin as if he were put out he had to, a.) Do something for us, the customer, and b.) Was completely rude to our cashier, not even bothering to conceal his annoyance. He created an unwelcoming atmosphere that was off-putting. We felt bad for Gustin for publically having to be the recipient of such rude behavior, and embarrassed for ourselves as customers because something so simple turned into an embarrassing spectacle. read more
