Retail being what it is this days (volatile) you would think a business would strive to have its employees be attentive to its customers or potential customers. Standing in back by the shoes pleasantly waiting to receive assistance but none ever came. It wasn't until I decided it was time to move on as I walked out the door did I even receive an inquiry if I needed assistance. Mind you there were multiple employees just hanging out at the front desk. I do hold out hope because I enjoy spending my well earned money at a local business but quality customer service is harder and harder to come by. read more

Me and a buddy came to this store to do a Private party transfer(ppt). Well after waiting 30 minutes, Jena the manager told us that she is leaving in the next minute. We kindly informed her that we have been waiting for over 30 minutes and if she could help us out. She gave us a bunch of excuses and informed us that she is pregnant and tired and that she is going home. Very unfriendly, unhelpful staff. My husband and I walked in and there were three employees sitting behind the register. Not a single one of them even bothered to greet us or even look up. We wandered around until we found what we needed, since nobody there offered to help, and were greeted with silence at the register as well. Rude staff. We stopped by with our puppies and the manager and another associate were talking shit about my husband and I & our pups. There are no signs posted saying dogs are not allowed and they all saw us walk in with them and didn't say anything but we heard them talking about us over on the next aisle. Our puppies were not even being loud or barking at all. If it was such a big issue they could have told us the moment we walked in. I came to Big 5 to buy a pair of shoes that I saw in their weekly ad. I was warmly greeted by a very nice man when I entered a nearly empty store. If only the rest of my experience were as pleasant. I knew exactly which shoes I wanted, but I could not locate them on the back wall or on the nearby shelves. I went through both locations twice and was still unsuccessful. I was hoping that at some time during my search, a member of their staff would appear and offer to help me. Both doors to the storage room were open, but I neither heard nor saw anyone inside. I was about to ask at the front desk when someone popped out the door pushing a dolly stacked with shoes. I told him what I wanted and in what size, and that the shoes were in their weekly ad. He disappeared for a few moments and came back with my shoes. Then I walked back to the front to pay. No one was at the checkstand. I started wandering around the front looking for the man I saw when I walked in. I found a nice family shopping near the firearms section. It wasn't until I was halfway back into the store that I located him. He was restocking one of the clothing racks. Why wasn't someone covering the front? read more

Good experiences with this Big 5 very knowledgable when it come to hunting license info. They have always had everything from licenses, deer and pig tags to duck stamps in stock. Many times stores that sell hunting and fishing licenses are out of stock with one thing or the other causing you to go to multiple stores to obtain them. Let's face it Big 5 or any other store doesn't sell licenses because it's such a money maker, they make a $1.45 on each one. Big 5 does it because they are in the Customer Service business and I'm sure it does get traffic into the store. The other day I had two coupons for $5 off one from the news paper and one from email. I purchased two items and asked if I could use both of them at once. The checker said I can't however offered a solution. She offered to ring them up separately so I could enjoy my discount. Easy just had to swipe my debit card two times. In my mind that is Customer Service, I'll be back. read more

Today I went in to buy a ping pong table about 10minutes before closing! The staff was very helpful and didn't even rush me to leave the store for closing! At time of purchase they noticed I didn't have a Truck to transport the big box so they volunteer to hold it for me until I came back with a truck! Lucky I was able to find a truck in the parking lot and when I called big 5, they were nice enough to to open the store and allow me to make my purchase after hours! Then they were kind enough to transfer the box into our truck and reminded us to call them with any concerns. We are extremely satisfied San thankful for the staff at big 5!!
