Pros: Almost never had to wait for a lane (at least not due to a lot of people shooting). They have a separate room for their rifle shooting. I believe you can shoot up to 7.62. SOME of the staff are very friendly and super knowledgeable. Big variety of firearms and parts/accessories. Cons: The rest of the staff look miserable aren't very welcoming or friendly. Ammo is more expensive than other places in the area. They also don't allow any firearm that THEY deem may not be "compliant". If I have all the correct paperwork for my firearms and have legally acquired them, I don't see why I'd be rejected. Will keep giving them a try for now. read more

Honestly, I don't see where a lot of these bad reviews are coming from. Maybe it's because I came on a day that wasn't busy but I didn't have any issues with customer service. Or they changed up the way they operate. I had a pleasant experience doing a PPT here, it's hard to find a shop that will do transfers on a weekend, let alone anytime during business hours. The associate sat down with me and went through the paper work so I didn't feel rushed out of there. Have traveled from the Fresno area to come here twice (four times if you count the 10 day wait and pick up) for a private party transfer. Honestly stand up dudes that work here and everyone knows their stuff. Think I was done in less than 20 minutes each time and this was always in a Saturday morning. They have a large supply of long guns and pistols. Highly recommend for all your firearm needs. Way better than any big box store and would gladly come here for the service. I came here for a PPT all the way from SF (2 hour drive) and was pleasantly surprised. A lot of Bay Area gun shops suck because they're understaffed, rude, or generally just don't want customers. Stage Stop goes above and beyond. Joey the owner helped me with my PPT on the first day and the 10th when I came to pick up. He's a kind, relaxed, and funny man who runs a tight shop and cares about all his guns and customers. He's the type of person you can hang around and talk with all day. The entire PPT process went smoothly and took no more than 30 minutes each time I was there, unlike some Bay Area stores which sometimes take hours to wait as they serve other customers first. While I was waiting for the paperwork, one of the employees also helped fix one of my Streamlight weapon lights that was screwed on too tight. After I picked up my gun, Joey let me shoot at the indoor range FOR FREE which he didn't have to do and I was prepared to pay for. Keep in mind, I only did a PPT and did not buy a gun there so he had no obligation to let me shoot for free as he made little money from me as a customer. That kind of ownership goes above and beyond and shows how much he cares for his customers. If you are in the area, do not hesitate to pay this store a visit. Everybody there is super kind and helpful, and the interior is also gorgeous and well laid out. I've given this place 4 different tries and each time is a new problem or bullshit excuse. Bought a gun, they lost my paperwork. Bought ammo with it, they sold it to someone else and now their out of stock. Have any family member with a matching last name (crazy concept i know), then you must be trying to game the system some how and we'll throw out the paperwork for a second time. Wanna use the range? I will never go back went there to see about selling or trading a gun for a bow and not only did they low ball me on my gun offered no deal on the bow, acted like I was wasting their time. My gun was a smith & Wesson MP shield 40 near new paid 469 they offered 150 to 200 and no deal at all on the bow basically telling me they don't want my business. They could of at least offered 200 for the gun and maybe 100 to 150 off the bow and made money off the bow and off the gun but no they chose to lose a customer. read more

In the words of my bank, "be careful who you do business with" and that is exactly right. The owner of this establishment is an absolute crook. I say this after pursuing every avenue and verifying that they will not work with us regardless of the circumstances which are not in their favor. We purchased a pistol in April and were awaiting the ten day period when they call us a couple days later saying that the dmv rejected the application. We called back within 2 hours to let them know that this was not a big deal and that we could clear that up no problem when they informed us that they had already sold OUR pistol that we paid for. When we received the refund it was short by roughly $200 so naturally we reached back out and they tell us this is a "restocking fee" What an epic joke for several reasons. First of all, it took them about 20 minutes to even locate the pistol the first time. Secondly, they did no level of restocking in any sense of the word. They literally sold it right out from under us within an hour without so much as an apology and then they refuse to refund us claiming that their "store policy" is to steal 20% of your money for absolutely no reason and slap the term "restocking fee" on it to make it seem legit. In any case they tell us that it is posted "all over" including on the receipt. Well, no it's not. It's not in a single place on any of the receipts so there's the first lie. Such bad business, unbelievably crooked way to make a quick buck. They apparently like to make their customers stay on edge and feel like they need to carefully comb thru every piece of writing in the establishment to ensure they don't get screwed over. I would also like to note that they charge LITERALLY DOUBLE what any other gun shop charges for ammo. $50 for 50 rounds of 9mm. Their pistols are also about $200 over other shops. We purchased the same exact pistol for $500 vs the $700 they charged us from Alquist Arms who are all wonderful. Skip this shop and go there instead. In response to the reply- if you were "very sorry" about anything y'all would have worked with us as you should have to begin with. The bottom line is you took our money, provided no product or service, and pocketed it. And since we'd like to play the semantics game with words, phrases and numbers I've taken the liberty of uploading a couple receipts. Here's that "unbelievable" price I paid for the same exact pistol I almost purchased from your shop for over $100 more. You don't know where I got $700? Really. Well idk about you but $656 is awfully close to 700 so I rounded.. is obviously how I got that.. but in any case, you are correct that $25 of that was for the FSC card which by the way, y'all couldn't even do correctly. You issued an unsigned card and we had to come all the way back to make it valid. So I guess your point is that you're only overcharging people by $100 and not 2? Lol and then excusing keeping their money for 0 work done or product provided with a "policy" when you sell it out from under them less than 2 hours later.. Your "policy" was not clearly displayed anywhere but I would bet it sure is now! Doesn't take a mathematical genius to see that you clearly and unrightfully pocketed over $150 of money you straight up did not earn. read more

Shop is great and employees are mostly good. I purchased an 8 hour initial CCW course for $120 and got called into work so I had to miss the class. Now they said I got to buy another class. That just doesn't seem right and isn't good business. I enjoyed coming here up until now. I plan on going elsewhere for my class. Update: I was not given a confirmation sheet with any info. Only receipt that I paid for course. It would've been nice to know the cancellation policy. I ended up going to safety first shooting in Atwater. It was only $50 for class plus $15 to qualify each firearm. Great class, Ron and mike were great instructors. Lot cheaper then stage stop, and you get to shoot outdoors. read more

This is one of the most welcoming places I've been in. The staffs customer service is A+. I haven't bought a firearm for close to 6 years. I went in to buy ammo and unfortunately CA has a law now that prohibits any purchase of ammo if you haven't bought a firearm in the past 5 years. The staff was so cool about all of this and helped me to find the perfect firearm for what I wanted to use it for and allowed me to buy all the ammo I needed, and was willing to hang onto it for me until my 10 day wait period was up. I have to say the staff being so kind is why I chose to do this review, not only were they extremely knowledgeable, but they answered every question without treating it as though it was a problem for them or a hassle for me to ask. Came in here today after purchasing 1 of many guns at 5:30pm just to qualified witha new hand gun for my ccw they don't close for 30 mins I hauled ass here after work to do this an I hear people shooting in the range but no one in the store customer wise an I tell them what I need to do real quick I no it don't take long at all an I couldn't even get a employee to qualify me in the 30 mins that they were open for I use to brag about this store cause of the small town family friend owned vibes but iast few times I been here you would think that ure at a bass pro shop or somthing where every employee seems to quit working 30 to 45 mins before they actually close but hey that's to bad cause driving to ripon isn't much more of a drive for me an to get that customer appreciation vibe back it's worth it ! read more

I just listened to what Bill was saying and this guy really does know about guns and shooting. He was really great with my son and helped him narrow down what I think will be the perfect gun for him. I took the 4 hour beginner class. Both instructors were great, very knowledgeable and friendly. Couldn't have had better teachers. Really put you at ease. You get to shoot for quite a while on the range also. More than I was expecting. Great bargain for the 75 dollar cost. Facility is very nice as well. Plan to return for purchases and range use. I took my 16 year old grandson here today to use the indoor range for our first time. Everyone was pleasant! (you know how gun stores can be!?) It wasn't busy on this Sunday early afternoon. The process was easy: We filled out their waiver 'on-line' before we left the house. You can also do it there, on their provided computer. When we got there, they just wanted ID and payment. We got a couple of complimentary targets and purchased a few more. Then into the range we went. They have 8 lanes of 15 yard & 6 lanes of 25 yard plus another 6 lanes of situational decision making shooting. We took turns sharing a 15 yard single lane. I recommend one lane per shooter, but I was teaching my grandson. It was a hot day (over 100 degrees outside) and while the store was nice and cool, the range was quite warm. Not much cooling going on in there. After shooting we got a tour of the extensive facility, which includes a large meeting room, restrooms and a lounge with a pool table in the back. This could be a 5 star experience, but the temperature/climate control drops it to 4 stars. I highly recommend!! read more

I just picked up my first hand gun at the Atwater shop. I went in about a week ago to look around. I had looked at ordering a gun on the interwebs, but quickly found out the disappointment of the Ca acceptable gun roster, so I figured I wouldn't have the same disappointment looking at a shop. I went in on a Friday just after 3 and the place was busy!! They had plenty of help though, so service wasn't affected. I explained to one of their salesmen I was looking for a reasonable l, but quality 9mm handgun for home defense. They pointed me to a S&W SD9VE, and told me about a few other options. I chose the SD, and started the paperwork. As a noobie to handguns, I was worried I'd be facing a bunch of jargon and whatnots, but the whole purchasing process was easy thanks to the staff there. After I was squared away, I looked around. They have more than just guns. They have whatever you would want to go along with guns, cleaning stuff, cases, ammo, ammo loading stuff, targets, glasses, ear protection, sighting things, and even fishing gear. When I returned after the waiting period, picking up my gun was just as easy. Again one of their people walked me through it all. The gun handling safety check was a surprise, but I'm glad they have that as I didn't exactly know how to do all that. I saw they offer different sorts of classes from safety to ccw classes. They are also opening a gun range soon, not far from their Atwater store. They told me Spring. read more

I was buying a gun from a private party and needed an FFL to transfer the gun to me. We called Stage Stop Gun Shop and they told us to come in and that they could transfer the gun. I drove an hour and the other party drove an hour from our respective cities. When we finally arrived at the gun store, we were told that they decided not to assist us with the transfer. When we told them that we had driven a long distance based on their offer to help transfer the gun legally, an employee told us that "I don't give a shit where you came from, we aren't doing transfers today". I protested and the employee became irate and followed me to the parking lot where he verbally yelled and screamed at me in my face. He was armed and totally out of control. None of the other employees attempted to calm this guy down and essentially, he was attempting to fight me. I had never seen anything like this at any gun store in my life! This store, in my opinion, has employees that are dangerous to the public based on the rage I had experienced simply for making a point that we had driven a long distance. There were only two or three patrons inside the store at the time and the accosting employee kept saying that the paperwork to transfer the gun is too long to fill out and that they don't want to deal with it. Real professional. Anyway, I would steer clear of this place. You may experience explosive out of control employees that don't want to do the work for their customers. I also felt that there was a racial component to this entire issue as well as I have tattoos that reveal that I am Jewish. It felt like this issue may have been the match that lit the fire of rage in the employee. Who knows for sure. read more
