Very limited options up in these neck of the woods. This place was very busy for carry out over an hour wait for a pizza and breadsticks on a Saturday night. Friendly staff, tons of toppings, but very expensive. $20 for a pizza and bread . I believe we stopped here once before and it was as much better. We ordered an XL hand tossed pizza. We were told 20 minutes and arrived at exactly 20 minutes. Our pizza was barely warm, I should have turned around and returned it right away. The bottom crust had the consistency of an overcooked lasagna noodle. It was nearly $30 and I should have asked for a refund. I will never order from them again. Today I ordered food from Big Al's and waited for the order. I looked out the window and noticed that the delivery guy was outside. I thought I was going to get a call as I normally would. NO call so I go to the door and still no delivery. Where I live there is water that accumulates through the walkway. I noticed still no delivery guy. I look outside and the car is gone. I was hoping that the guys would drive his incompetent self to the back way. No, still no delivery. I call the restaurant and was put on hold because they didn't see my order and other stuff. Best pizza in town. Thin crust and very cheesy. They get really busy especially in the summer when the tourists are up. Sometimes they have so much business that they can't keep up and it seems like they stop taking orders. You can dine in or eat out. read more

I grew up in Manistee and loved Big Als, the last 2 times I came home, I've ordered from there and have been disappointed. The first time, there was zero sauce on my sub- very dry. This time, I asked for mayo and extra sub sauce. As you can see in the pictures- disgusting. It was like soup. Both mine and my moms were DROWNING in sauce and my toppings weren't even on my sub, they were all around it and on top of the bun. Took a few bites and threw the rest away. How this place got number one pizza joint in MI is beyond me. It took two hours to get our pizza and it was undercooked at that. They gave us $20 dollars back (I paid $34), some chocolate ship cookies and attempted to give us (4) orders of breadsticks. Who needs that many breadsticks? Never ever again. read more

Big Al's has been around since I was in high school. It was great then (a long time ago) and is great now. You may have to wait 20-30 mins for your food during busy days but it is worth the wait. Calling ahead for your take out is helpful. read more

Visiting Manistee, I was told Big Al's was sort of the only real pizza place around, and from prior stuff I've eaten, it had big shoes to fill. After hearing about it so much, I finally tried it and was neither disappointed or excited. It's not bad, per se, but it suffices. If I had to relate it to a normal fast food pizza chain, it reminds me of Dominoes. I hear good things about the subs and next time I'm out here I'll be sure to try them, but for now the pizza game gets a 3/5 from me. read more

Stopped going there for a few yrs, because everytime we ordered it was wrong. On our way home figured I'd give my wife a break from cooking. The poppa woppa grinder was good. She wanted a steak and cheese stromboli with mushrooms and onions, a side of banana pepper's. Now there is 2 people pissed off. "DREW" got ours and we got a pepperoni with no banana pepper's- payed for them- but didn't get any. I'm a local and i keep going thru this. Ordered a Hawaiian pizza with no meat and add jalapeños. We don't eat ham. I get the pizza and there's ham all over it. I called back and their answer was it's not "ham" it's Canadian bacon. They offered no solution to the mistake that was made so I'm forced to pick the greasy stuff off. Definitely not the best customer service. One star because they have good ranch. read more

She informed me that she was the owners wife and she was over it. She told me to shut up when I was trying to help one of the other customers waiting. A man laughed and she mocked him laughing. When I told another employee how rude she was being I was told she is having a bad night and I should cut her some slack. Told this was the best pizza in Manistee I happily ordered some with my husband to sample the wares. First off I think someone needs to explain to Big Al what Chicago style pizza is. His version was not even true deep dish, more like chewy bread with canned sauce, grease covered cheese and limited toppings. Honestly though I think even had we been expecting regular type pizza we would have been truly disappointed. When my husband throws away over half a pizza it is truly bad pizza. We ended up leaving our cozy cabin in the battering wind and rain coming straight off Lake Michigan, on a winding road that opens up to the lake at some points, risking a deer and car collision as we drove in the pitch black to go to BK for burgers back in town. Big Al's Pizza was the worst pizza that I've tasted, not only in the state of Michigan but the entire United States. The pizza was soggy and floppy. The crust was so thin and soggy that we couldn't even pick up the pizza. Every topping was out of a can (well, except the pepperoni!). The mushrooms looked and tasted like wet slugs. The pizza was so terrible that we had to smoke it over a campfire just to make it edible. You must be absolutely drunk in order to consume more than one bite. You are better off going to Meijer down the street and buying frozen pizza to throw in the oven. Our first clue should have been with how dirty the restaurant was. It was absolutely filthy and I have no clue how they could pass a health inspection. There was black mold all on the bottom of the wood paneling outside the bathrooms. The ladies bathroom had blood all inside the toilet and overflowing....I had to pee so bad and REFUSED to use their restroom. Top ten pizza restaurant? Bahaha. Who did they poll, their employees? First off, when you walk in this place it's obvious it hasn't been cleaned in years. Inch of dirt on the floor, silverware and napkins all over the place, dead bugs, just gross. There's a reason why there's a hand sanitizer station by the door. Let's talk about the pizza for a second. Deep dish? Putting a regular pizza in a deep dish pan doesn't make it deep dish. The crust gets punched up on the sides, and it's not even a buttery puffy deep dish crust, it's just plain Jane pizza crust. They don't even pile the cheese and toppings on! It's as thin as a Victoria's Secret model. As far as the taste goes, it's not bad, but then again it's pizza. I swear the owners of this place worked at little Caesars at one point because it's exactly the same cheese/tomato taste. Shut this place down for a few days and clean it up. What we didn't know is that the mini crusts are very thick & bready, also appearing to be pre made & not fresh made like the big pizzas. We will likely return, but never order the mini pizza again. If you are in Manistee looking for Pizza, Big Al's is not for you. They lost our order along with 3 other people waiting. There were kids making salads in their bare hands touching everything. Our pizza finally came out and we drove home tried taking a slice out, and all of the cheese just slid right off, leaving us with just crust and sauce. Mancino's restaurant was very clean, nice employees and the pizza was MUCH MUCH better. read more

We placed a large carry out order; 9 large hand tossed pizzas with various toppings. The order was filled correctly and on time as promised. The staff was exceptionally friendly and offered to help carry the pizzas to the car. The pizzas were generously covered with toppings. They were thinner than the usual hand tossed variety. The crust was tasty but not heavy. The veggie comes with black and green olives which was unexpected. Olives are like anchovies in our family and we wish we would have known that.
