We had a challenging down hill to navigate, which I felt bad about, but they managed it expertly, all while keeping the mood light with smiles and humor. I would give 0 stars in I could. I have moved over 20 times in my life and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had in every regard. They took 3X as long as predicted, charged over twice as much, and lost my most valuable possessions. To make matters worse, when I talked to the owner, Al Bartley, about where my missing boxes were, he accused me of lying saying he's sure they're at my house. I told him he can come by and search everything, but I wanted to know what facts he had that I didn't have that made him "certain" that my possessions were at my house. Since they used 3 different trucks at different parts of the process, and several movers worked part of the project and then left with a truck, I thought that they may have taken them away by mistake as the boxes missing, all marked "open first" and "fragile" were in the same area when they were moved. On one call trying to track down my missing packages (which included my medications and my hearing aids), the staff hung up with me. I was told I shouldn't have packed medications and they called to tell me so. They did NOT. And, of course, they paid me $60 to cover my losses of over $10K as they said they only owe $0.60/lbs and this is more than the weight of what was lost. PLEASE, PLEASE never use Big Al's Specialty Movers for any move. I can't imagine a worse possible experience than I encountered during and after the move. read more

These guys are ASTOUNDING. In Novembber, 2025, Al (the owner) came to our place and did a walkthrough - estimate. Very personable guy - nice to deal with, and Beth, the office manager, was extremely helpful as well. In Mid-January, 2026, they moved our 2900 sq ft house and 900 sq ft shop in WA to a (downsized) 1900 sq ft house and 1200 sq ft shop in North Idaho. We had them pack everything, and the packing job they did was simply incredible - - Lots of computer gear, delicate dishware and glassware, like-new furniture, lots of glass-framed pictures, some very large, VERY heavy and cumbersome shop machinery and tools. The two desks from my upstairs office each weigh about two tons (slightly exaggerated) and these guys picked them up, turned them 90° to fit through the doors, took them down the stairway (with a 90° turn halfway down) and out the front door, and made it look nearly effortless. Long story shorter, everything got delivered on schedule and in the same condition as when it left WA. Not a single item damaged or broken OR lost ! Simply incredible. Ivan (the move foreman) and all the other guys (Jude, Seth, George, Chris, and Nick) were friendly, competent, and INCREDIBLY STRONG. And the final price came in VERY close to Al's initial estimate. Our furniture was so damaged when we arrived, no to mention they left a table and 4 chairs upstairs, a recliner in the master. My mistake assuming they moved everything, as it was a large home. I wish I would have used them again for this move. Instead, I hired a different company because the new company was closer to my house. Big mistake! If you are a single woman you will get charged 150% of what a man or a couple will get charged. I used them for a move with my ex and they were friendly, nice and reasonable. I had them back for a quote and as a single women and the owner was hostile, didn't even speak with me during the walk through for a quote and then quoted me a price 150% over what they charged the first time. I am still in contact with my ex. He used them for his move and his price was not inflated 150%. Clearly the owner does not like or want to do business with women. read more

We used Big Als to move from Felida to Vancouver. They were expensive but we thought they would be good. I should have gotten the Insurance to cover the 'stuff' that disappeared in the 20 miles of the move. Alessi, Camapagnolo, an expensive briefcase, a silver bowl, non-replacable bmw books and Leica books,... they knew what they wanted and walked off with only two boxes, but the stuff that was worth walking off with. $823.97 an hour? Hire Big Al's! I hired Big Al's to move my furniture from one part of my house to another as I was having my floors refinished. Al came over and estimated that the move would take 3 to 5 hours. I called to schedule an appointment with Beth. The only day they had available was a Saturday. I was informed that they had a 4-hour minimum on Saturdays. At $167.70 per hour for 3 movers plus other "fees," the charge would be $823.97. Beth told me she could waive the 4-hour minimum, stating that she knew they would make the time up moving my furniture back after my floors were finished. I paid a $400 deposit ($200 for moving out and then back in another day). I thanked her and awaited the move. The movers showed up on time and were professional. They did a great job. When they presented me with the bill, it was $623.97 in addition to the $400 I already paid. I informed the driver that I was told the 4-hour minimum was to be waived, but he didn't know anything about it, so I paid the full invoice assuming that it would be corrected on the move back into the house. And by the way, the move took 1 hour. I called and spoke to Stacy to ask about the incorrect billing, she told me that I had to pay the 4-hour minimum. I objected. She had Al, the owner, call me. I told him what had happened, and he said that they never waive the minimum. I asked him to put Beth on the line with us, but he refused. I stated that my expectations were that they come move my furniture back, and if it took longer than 3 hours, I would pay the balance, but if it were 3 hours or less, I would consider us to be even. Al told me no. Any further work would incur additional charges. They have refunded $200 of the $400 deposit back ($200 deposit for each day) I was charged $823.97 for 3 men's labor for one hour. I have since cancelled using them on the move back into the house. It was my mistake to trust them without getting it in writing. It's sad that a local company can't back up what a long-time representative of the company tells a client. I cannot in good conscience recommend Big Al's Specialty Movers at all. Yes, the movers are great, but their honesty falls short. Very short. read more

They handled my baby with care and carried her down 1 flight of stairs and up 2 more flights of stairs where she is now resting beautifully in my living room. These guys were absolutely amazing. I had made a poor judgement call, so the duo was in a tough spot holding on to a 300 lb pinball machine in the middle of the stairs that wasn't clearing near the top...they roughed through it and instead of complaining or being unpleasant, they came away joking and in good spirits, even after moving 7 pianos earlier in the day. BEWARE!!! $8,573.97 ESTIMATE BECOMES $11,292.94 FINAL BILL We used Big Al's in 2007 to move from Vancouver to Kelso. We have a large, three panel organ and Al's was recommended as the best in the business for moving organs and pianos. We had a great first experience with them. We did our own packing, but the move cost us $1800. Fast forward to 2018 and we needed to move from Kelso to Eugene, OR. So we called Al's. We needed them to pack this time (we're retired and and don't get around as well as we used to). We were given an estimate to pack and move all of our stuff, including our piano and organ as well as all the living room furniture, patio planters, and a very large train table. We ended up giving away all of those large items except the piano... and our final bill still ended up being almost $3,000 more than it was estimated. How is this possible????? Additionally, we have tried to get them to respond to our complaints for the past two weeks and they continue to tell us they will be in touch next week. They have yet to talk to us. We are retired and on a fixed income, so this bill is not only outrageous it is puts us over a barrel financially. MOVER BEWARE: Do your homework before hand to see what other companies are out there, and if you do go with Big Al's be sure that they sign a contract warranting that the estimate and final bill will be somewhat close! read more

We were worried there was no way to get it inside but they were able to move our couch in via the balcony no problem! We used this company to load ( just load ) our pod . Everything was packed and boxed up except for large furniture items . Two older guys showed up to load . They were doing a great job until after they came back from lunch . There work became sloppy and worthless .. 550.00 later and they only accept checks only they screwed us over . We could not get the pod door closed because they had large furniture pieces blocking the door rail .. we had to go back and re- do there worthless packing so we could close the door . Let's move forward now ... moved in October .. finally moved in to home in January and pod was delivered . Unloading .. my 2 beautiful leather chairs marked up , scratched up and ruined .. they were not wrapped properly ( we supplied blankets and wrap and they said it was fine ) brand new dresser and 2 night stands .. scratched up - chipped up and ruined they did not wrap it up properly and items were shoved up against dresser and night stand . My mirror was dented in as well . I called the office manager several times with no resolution .. my calls were ignored . I want my 550.00 back . Lousy company - unprofessional movers and not dependable . I had friends warn me not to use this company and I should of listened . I think the D team showed up that day .
