They "lost" my jacket during packing or unpacking. They told me to let them know if anything was missing or damaged AFTER they finished unpacking which I did as soon as I found out that my jacket was missing. But according to their insurance policy, I should have done so before the movers left. I understand that I should have kept the movers waiting and standing around in my house until I went over and inspected every single little piece of my possession (/s), but why and how was my stuff lost in the first place? I clearly saw the jacket go into the boxes along with other jackets and sealed. It was particularly painful to lose this jacket because it was a personal and sentimental item that my mom and I made together. Update: My suddath advocate Benny escalated this issue with his VP to the insurance management company and was able to get them to issue the insurance claim. Although I'm still really sad I lost that jacket, I appreciate the effort that these people went through to make sure I was satisfied. read more

Theft! Used this company as my new job offered them as new hire moving expense option. Always handled my own moves, it was my first time using professional movers. As always, moving out of state with a house full of stuff and a family to a new job is a mess. Found out some months later that collectible sports cards I've had since the 80s were missing from a sports tin. Nothing crazy valuable, a jerry rice rookie and sanders rookies but they were sentimental. Can I prove they were stolen? In everything sense but hard evidence as I didn't list those items on the valuable list. Also, driver suggested I don't insist on inventory for all my items to "save time". Big mistake. I've kept this items in a small sports tin that screams open me if your an opportunist looking for easy pickins to pocket. By the time you realize something is gone, it's past the 90 window to make a claim. You cant even email the sales representative contact that you booked with, email will bounce back. My advice? No matter who you pick, inventory all items, handle valuable including sentimental items yourself, insist they follow all procedures, read the fine print and treat the movers as hired strangers that don't not have your interest as heart. Picked up my belongings in Portland over a month ago. They committed to deliver no later than two weeks ago. Nothing has been delivered and they will not commit to a new window or delivery date. They were the highest bid of the national van lines (contracted through United), as well as the highest estimated weight, which has since proven to be over-estimated, but because their delivery timing was significantly better and that was crucial to our move, I chose them. But now 31 days after picking up my things, nothing has been delivered, and still no timing for delivery of goods, which I believe is unlawful according to DOTs Rights and Responsibilities pamphlet they are required to send. I've been bounced around to various customer service representatives within their parent company (Allegiant, located in MO), and those representatives don't appear to have any means or authority to expedite the agreed-to and contracted services. And their work lacks timelines. A week ago they said they were 'freighting,' due to an inability to secure a truck and a driver, and that this would 'speed things up;' but it's already it's been double the agreed-to-delivery time and based on the lack of information and movement, I have no confidence that a solution is in place that will expedite this move as they still cannot confirm a delivery date. And the worst of it, the paltry compensation they offer does not even come close to covering costs that we are taking on as a result of their inability to fulfill the contract (i.e...move our stuff). I hired Suddath to move me from Sherwood, Oregon to Cody, Wyoming. Little did I know that they don't actually move you. They took my stuff to their warehouse. They then try to find a truck to deliver your load... Well, Cody is off the beaten path so I didn't get my first load until past my contract guarantee. They did not get all my stuff on the first truck. So 6 weeks later, I got the rest of my belongings. I'm missing many items. I never received a copy of my contract because they used an online tool that is not working... I did not know that you only have 90 days to file a claim. Stay away from this Company. read more

My family and I are military being moved from Portland, OR to the east coast. Mostly great experience with them picking up our household goods. And will know more definitively how we feel when we get our goods at the next location. My issue with the company is they marked almost every item they packed up and loaded as "soiled" and "badly worn" my husband and I worked hard these last few years to fill this home with only new furniture. We literally have bed covers on the mattresses and covers on the dinning room chairs (new) but they marked it all as poor condition. We obviously know better and took pictures with timestamps of everything and will appeal this on the back end if anything shows up broken. But when signing the documents today they made the excuse the tablet wasn't loading documents correctly and talked us into signing. (All on camera in our home, luckily) again, they are efficient and worked fast, but with knowing how they took inventory just gives me the impression they don't actually care about what they are doing in this service. read more

When I inquired about a significant credit due us for services never rendered, the response was that's another department (in essence, "I can't help you, you are on your own") while demanding that we immediately pay Suddath's invoice without offset. After several months I'm still finding broken items do to mishandling by delivery workers.

Suddath was professional and detail-oriented with packing and delivering our stuff to Portland. They used United Van Lines, and the drivers were courteous and polite. My one grievance is that they took 3 weeks to deliver our stuff from pick-up date (to their credit, they did give us a 2-week window in which they expected to deliver, and our stuff was delivered at the end of that time frame.) Additionally, I took off one star because Lucinda "Lou" Salvo was very uncommunicative in the beginning and short with her emails. There were a couple of times that she did not acknowledge emails/phone calls. I had to call her several times a day before the move, because I did not have any inkling of the packers' arrival time (and had to ensure I was going to be home.) I can understand that she is busy with other moves, but when your company is paying close to $5k to move you across states, you expect some common courtesy. To Lou's defense, her demeanor did improve after I casually complained to the office staff. In essence, I would use Suddath again, but might choose a different move coordinator the next time around. read more

HIRE A DIFFERENT COMPANY FOR YOUR MOVE I have used moving companies at least three times, including once when in the Marine Corps, and this was by far my worst experience. 1. Quoted me the wrong policy, but company would not stand behind quote, paid more at end of move. Likely would have selected a different company if quote was accurate up front. 2. Communication was inconsistent, disconnected internally, and frustrating. At one point, branch manager said she would follow up in a few days by email, heard nothing for 3-4 weeks, then get collection notice from A/R department. It got even "better" after that. 3. Many items damaged in move. Purchased the insurance up front. Got claim in just before deadline due to fax line constantly busy, no email provided, and no response by phone. Had to email customer service who finally got it to the claims department. Company scheduled adjuster then cancelled. No response now. Next stop is submitting a complaint to the BBB, FTC, and FMCSA, among others. Many companies that would have provided a better experience. I should have looked at the reviews on Yelp first. Would have made a big difference in deciding who to go with. A *few* of the damaged items 1. I have moved three times in the past five years for my job with the Government. Two of those times, my goods were damaged in transit but not this third time. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the movers, Mike Crowley, Kyle, and Stephen. Mike, especially, took the greatest care in packing my grandmother's antique floor lamp (a very difficult piece to pack and ship)--it arrived in excellent condition with not a scratch on it. In fact, I haven't discovered any damage with any of the items shipped by them. Had I known they were going to be so good, I wouldn't have packed my car so full! I would hire these movers again, and will, the next time I move for my job. They were extremely courteous and professional. read more

Do not trust their bid! They charged us an extra $350 for "shuttle service at destination", which was not mentioned even as a possibility in the bid. When we asked about this, they claimed the driver wasn't able to deliver direct because of two reasons: that our street was too narrow and the road truck would have blocked the bike lane and that tree canopy was a problem. We pointed out that the shuttle truck in fact parked fully in the bike lane, and that the tree canopy does not extend out to the bike lane. They did not even acknowledge these observations, let alone respond to them. We can't help feel that we were given a dishonest bid and scammed out of an extra several hundred dollars. I will avoid this company like the plague in the future. If you must use them, mentally add hundreds of dollars to your potential charge even if there is no reason for the extra, both for budgeting and for comparing with competing bids. read more

I haven't moved house in 28 years and, in no hurry, wanted to take my time emptying my home while preparing it for sale. I decided to use a container parked in front of my home and looked at POD first, it being the only such service I knew of. Yelp reviews were not good, so disheartened, I looked elsewhere, somewhere local if possible. I found Suddath Relocation in North Portland. The office staff were so helpful in planning the delivery of the container to my homeand informed me of the cost for each step of the way. I thus planned to have their container moved to a convenient storage complex in St Helens Oregon once it was filled. We executed the contract and payment online (my preference). The delivery driver was cheerful and placed the container exactly where I indicated, in order that view of the house was not blocked; he showed me how to release the latch to open the roll-up door before leaving. The entrance is conveniently at ground level and the roof is transparent - we were able to fill it at night after work as there was a streetlight directly above and shining through. On relocation day I drove ahead to arrange for the unit selected by Northwest Self Storage staff, which allowed for placement of the container over the weekend, just steps from the storage unit. I had the option to place the container at my son's property where I will be staying until I buy another home, but I wanted to store as much as I could in a more convenient place for another move. I was back in Portland on the day Suddath was scheduled to retrieve the now empty container from St Helens, and due to errors on my part and miscommunications, they were unable to get access for pick-up. They had to return the next day (a 35 mile trip) to try again. Using Suddath is a low stress choice for moving. It allowed me, a single woman, to move without depending on family & friends who lead busy lives in distant cities, though I couldn't have done it without my incredibly strong son's help with the big stuff. read more

Josh Santos made my move painless. A inventory of my items and their conditions was taken before the move, and movers ensured that each one was present on arrival. There was no damage. Josh was incredibly polite and very easy to reach by email and phone; he also gave me a couple updates on when my items were expected to arrive while they were in transit. Suddath even kept my items for a day at no charge because I still had to fly into Portland. My employer covered relocation expenses and allowed choosing among Graebel, Mayflower, United, and northAmerican. I checked a review site and noticed all these movers had terrible ratings, but United was the best of the lot, so I went with United expecting zilch. I was pleasantly surprised, but my experience may apply only to Suddath, the United agent in Portland, OR. If you're moving to Portland, Suddath is the way to go. read more

Suddath did a great job on our move from Redwood City, CA to Ashland, OR. In particular, we were kept well informed about schedules. The driver and crew showed up on time and were polite, friendly, and efficient. The only damage we have found is a single broken martini glass. Furniture well taken care of. On the receiving end there was a delay due to some driver change issues, but in our case the delay actually worked out in our favor, allowing remodeling to be further along and saving on storage. Again, the company (Tina) kept us well informed. The driver and his crew on the receiving end were again friendly and efficient. In fact the driver went so far beyond the call of duty I cannot recommend this company's services enough. So, why not a 5 Star? Only one hiccup. The piano disassembly crew did not do their job. They left the legs on and the regular crew had a tough time getting it out the door. Also, it was supposed to be put on a piano board for storage. But the delivery driver dealt with this tough situation when he did not have to. What a great guy. read more

I used this service in my relocation from Indiana to Michigan and it was great. They were on-time for pick up and delivery towards the beginning of the time frame given (around 2 hours). Very friendly workers. Only thing I docked in my review was the inability to let me know when my stuff was picked up to when it would be delivered. It ended up working out, but I did have to do some rescheduling to be there. Overall no major complaints. I recently took a new job requiring me to move from Phoenix AZ to Seattle WA. My job provides relocation aide and prefers to use Suddath in the Pacific NW. From start to finish, the people I worked with were excellent. The coordinator, Tina C, was kind, personable and answered questions, calls and emails promptly. The folks who packed my things in Phoenix were great and really took care of my belongings. I was given a window of 5-21 days to delivery at my new apartment, and assured everything possible would be done to deliver as early as possible and to communicate the progress. My things arrived quickly and the 3 guys who delivered and moved my things in were wonderful. They were even able to miraculously get a very large, heavy handmade armoire with no removable pieces into my apartment. I still do not know how they pulled it off, I was sure we would be heading to Goodwill with a handmade piece of family furniture. What I appreciate most is, everyone I spoke was honest and clear, no empty promises were made. If someone didn't know the answer to a question, they found out and got back to me. Suddath was recommended by a coworker for my local move. They did a fantastic job. I had schedule them to pack my China and other fragile items and planned to pack the rest of the house myself. Due to unforeseen circumstances I wasn't done packing by the morning of my move. The guys were unfazed by this and had actually brought extra boxes "just in case". They worked quickly and carefully. Suddath moved us from the Portland area to Idaho. We had a wonderful and very accommodating driver, who worked with us on delivery and made the move very easy. The furniture was delivered without damage and most efficiently. However, when he arrived at the house to pick it up, he found that he could not access our house and needed to order a shuttle to pick up the load. The representative, who should have included this in the original estimate, wasted no time in getting to our home to have us sign for the extra charges. We felt we had no choice at that point, as we needed to have the furniture out. The rep had even returned after his initial visit to take photos of the property and should have known a shuttle would be needed, but the driver said he never saw any photos, nor was he told of the access issues. We think this was handled badly, but appreciated that they worked quickly to get the shuttlle there and the move was taken care of promptly. Because of our driver and Suddath's prompt action in making the move happen, in spite of the inefficiency of the rep, we are giving them a 4-star rating. read more
