    Big Red Barn

We love this place. They have live music and food trucks on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. There are families with dogs and kids and lots to do if you want to pick berries, and veggies. Highly recommend. If you go when Family PitMasters is there get some BBQ to Take home.

Stumbled on Big Barn beer at a local farmers market. Bought four bottles and fell in love! The four different styles were all brewed to "classic" standards, which I really dig. Set out for the barn the following week and found a postcard worthy setting with barns, hop fields, fresh u-pick fruit, lawns and tables to relax and enjoy a beer and maybe something from the rotating food trucks. We brought a few sandwiches from town, picked delicious raspberries and had a couple of fantastic beers. This is a "don't miss" operation!

    Fresh produce and beer specials.

How fun to stumble upon a brewery while visiting the local farms. Free parking can be found in the dirt lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Picnic table seating can be found outside on the porch. Individual seats can be found in the lawn. Perfect seating to enjoy a cold brew and some sunshine. On the day of our visit, we purchased a box of apples and received a free pint of beer. Love free. This brewery had a nice variety of beers on tap (11 total). Pricing is reasonable, $4-$5 a pint. Wine is available for non-beer drinkers. Big Barn Brewery paraphernalia can also be purchased such as: pint glasses, growlers, t-shirts and hats. My wife and I each had a pint of Rusty Red Ale for $4 each and my sister had a pint of Golden Pumpkin (free due to apple purchase). My wife and I were please with our beer choice and my sister's beer tasted like a glass of Fall. Delish! Thank you Big Barn for whetting our whistles and providing a peaceful place to sit and relax while doing so.

The staff here is awesome! We chose to do a beer flight, which was $8 for 4 beer tasters. If you like a hearty stout, black dog is an excellent choice! Found my mother isn't a beer fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed! They also had pick your own fruit or you could buy peaches inside. Can't wait to try a peach tomorrow!

Smarter and less offensive, would to give a 3% discount for cash. Waitress was friendly, but someone misinformed her about how credit card charges for the food establishments work. She offered a strange and unrealistic reason they HAD to put 2 prices on the menu. Good waitress, otherwise. And really, not her fault she was told this garbage. If it were true, every place that accepted visa would have to do it. We travel all over the US and world and rarely see 2 charges on menus. The atmosphere of the bar is sports bar-like. It would be a good place to watch the game. A lot of beer, a few items of hard liquor. No scotch.

I was glad to see some cider options which I prefer, and I had a nice Watermelon flavored one at lunch with my daughter. Their menu is definitely bar food, and it was all very good. We especially liked the fried pickles app! A unique thing they do on their menu, is list both a cash price versus credit card price, which I think other places should consider doing. I paid with a card, but I think some people would like to see both options. Yummy cider and yummy bar food here.

Our happy little group (22 people!!!) rolled in for lunch last Saturday afternoon. The hostess took…read morethat in stride and in a matter of two minutes came back with a happy smile and said "we have you all set up, please come with me" ... that's impressive ... 22 people during the weekend lunch rush. Big points, right off the bat! And, btw, we weren't shoved into some back room and jammed tight, this was main floor and in the bright light of day. Impressive, right? So, now let me guess, you want to know about the food? Let's start with the obvious ... yes, it was tasty and served up temperature appropriate and with plenty of visual appeal, so job well done to the kitchen. After all, we do also eat with our eyes. Our group took a mad run at just about every category on the menu and everything was equally well done. For myself, the Rancher's Pie (see my photo) just screamed "take me, take me!!!) so, I did and it was delicious! My wife ordered the Chicken Caprese and loved every bite. To our experience, and the rest of the group, everything on the plates, in the bowls, and the variety of beverage servings was spot on and lived up to the descriptions and images on the menu. The problem with the menu here is that there are so many things to want, you'll just have to go back several times to get to try them all. Now for the really good part. The service. When you go (notice that I didn't say "if you go") I highly recommend that you ask for Stacie! How one person can manage a mob like ours, get everything for everyone just perfectly, and do it all with a smile is one of the great mysteries of the cosmos. BUT, she DID IT ALL and never broke a sweat. The endless assortment of "can I get a refill, may I have some fry sauce, oops I spilled and need a cleanup" ... you know that list, and it did happen with us ... never fazed her one bit. You've just got to ask for her so you can get the experience for yourself. A bit more about Stacie, please bear with me ... when I had my wallet out, she noticed my military i.d. and asked me what branch I'd been in, and I told her "Army, thanks for asking." When she brought out my bill, there was a discount ... what a happy surprise, right? Yep, she's definitely well schooled in the fine art of customer service excellence. When I mentioned that one of my grandies was celebrating a birthday, Stacie was all over that like a magician with a wand! After the entree service was complete, she brought out a house birthday treat (with five spoons so all the kids could share in the bounty ... see my photo, please.) It seems the house has a special way of helping folks celebrate special occasions. You'll have to go in person and while you're there, you can ask about that for yourself. Go ahead, ask. You'll be very happily surprised, I promise you. But, ya gotta ASK about it cuz there's a secret that I'm not sharing here. But all good things must end and this one does with a few other points for you. The parking lot is huge and easy in-easy out on a busy north town artery. The ambience is well lit, impeccably clean, every member of the staff radiates a "glad you could join us" attitude, and there's a general sense of "we're happy to see you here and we want to make it great for you." Now my friends, I've done my job and I've given you the lowdown skinny on The Onion in northtown Spokane. It's up to you to saddle up and head on out. One suggestion, though. Call ahead and ask for a table in Stacie's section, after all, you're worth it! GO!
