My husband and I spent a few nights up in Big Bear with our dog in August. As I typically go to Big Bear to ski, I wasn't sure all what there was to do in the summer. Since we knew about the lake, we decided to take our dog on her first boat ride. We chose Big Bear Marina because we know they were dog friendly. We chose a pontoon boat, as it seemed like something nice and stable for our dog. Anyway, when we arrived, the wait was minimal. It was on a Thursday, so there was no crowd. They did give us a long waiver and agreement that we both reviewed. We were offered a newer more expensive boat, or the standard. We chose the standard, as the only real upgrade was a speaker, but we already had brought our own. We then paid for the boat and they sent us out to the dock. We then were given a brief lesson from a staff member, as neither of us had ever driven a pontoon boat. The lesson was quick, as there was nothing to driving the boat. We then were off for a relaxing drive around the various coves of the lake. They gave us a map that showed us the names of the various areas. For the most part, we had a calm day and just relaxed, enjoyed a picnic lunch and some music. Two hours was the perfect amount of time to explore leisurely. Our dog enjoyed her first boat ride and sniffing the lake breezes. Brining the boat back and docking was just as easy as our departure. We had no troubles at all with the boat. read more

We booked a sunset cruise on a whim and it was the best experience of our entire visit in Big Bear. Captain Paul was fantastic. He shared many interesting facts about Big Bear Lake and its history. Went out on the 11AM tour and was quite pleased! The cost was the most reasonable on the lake at $22 per adult, $15 per child. The boat was smaller than the other two story vessels but offered ample shade and a smooth ride. The captain was kind and informative and toured us around all sites. Had a great time! Well, we're local so we would be repeat customers. Within 5 minutes of walking into dock and seconds sitting down on the dock I had a leg filled with 17 SPLINTERS!! Wear closed toe shoes and don't sit or let your children sit down!! Almost had my 4&2 yr old sitting next to me. We would have been in the emergency room for sure! Long, deep and painful splinters that they know happens, as the instructor even told me about other guests as I showed him my leg and was clearly in agonizing pain. Spent rental trying to not ruin families experience but seriously they know it's bad and do nothing. They should have a sign so big before you enter sock so there is no mistaking the dangers!! I feel like they didn't care. 11days later still digging into skin to get splinters out. Our boat also had a razor sharp piece of metal by steering wheel they warned us about. If you know you have a glaring danger fit it so your customers feel valued. We had two toddlers. read more
