My husband and I joined the 12:30 boat tour on a Saturday in February. The boat was pretty packed, all available seating was filled. The boat is kept in good condition, we liked the option of opening the large windows to let in the fresh air and cool breeze. This is a really great experience. Very entertaining and knowledgeable. The captain is so funny with his commentary he makes it very enjoyable. We learned a lot of the lake houses what every one of them differentiates from the rest and what makes them unique. We also learned what famous people own lake houses in Lake Arrowhead. My family and I had a fun one hour boat tour of Arrowhead Lake. Captain Craig was at the helm and started our tour like it was the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. It didn't stop there... he was full of corny dad jokes (which I loved) and gave us so much history about the lake and the famous people who lived there. We also got to see the huge pinecone he passed around. Great way to spend an hour, entertaining for people of all ages. It was so relaxing that my husband fell asleep during the tour. Not wheelchair accessible but there were local staff who was more than willing to help transport my son into the boat and store his wheelchair in the nearby shop for us. Thank you!!! read more

He showed us where stars had owned homes or still own homes. He told us some interesting history as well. We had some doubts when we saw the ticket price (at this writing it's about $30 for the 1-hour tour) but there weren't that many things to do here so I went for it. It was quite fun; and I'd say it exceeded our expectations! The tour was operated by just one person, the Captain ‍. And for us it was Captain Craig, a local from Running Springs and knew a lot about the area and the history. That, plus his friendly and jovial demeanor, made the tour fun and enjoyable! My kids are usually picky but they liked it! If you come on a clear day, the scenery around the lake should be nice. Lots of great photo opportunities! The lake side near the boarding spot was beautiful with nice scenery. Ducks and fish in the lake make good entertainment for the youngsters. And there are many restaurants with lake views near by. The only thing we didn't love that much was the narrative along the tour focused too much on the rich and famous and how many extravagant properties they own around the lake; maybe you can't escape the reality, this place is another playground for the super wealthy.... But I would be more interested in the wide life, the eco environment, the ordinary people and the community around the lake. P. S. It was great! It really went for 45-50 minutes, so take that into account when bringing young children. We brought our toddler and he had trucks, snacks, and kiddie binoculars. He loved it. There were some other littles on the boat who were donezo by 20 mins in. I'd say WORTH IT with the little kids but come prepared with snacks and toys if you want to also enjoy the ride yourself. Stepping aboard the Arrowhead Queen, excitement filled me as I prepared for the ride across Lake Arrowhead. I knew that I was stepping into an experience that would be VERY touristy in every sense of the word and I was right about that. Listening to stories about the extravagant history of famous celebrities, rock stars, and robber barons. The houses lining the lake's edge are as overwrought/overdone/elaborate/extreme as Hearst Castle with a lot more technological add ons here and there. Standard features in these homes are Elevators from the bottom floor (garage) all the way to the top balcony, Escalators, Escape Rooms, boat ramps and oversized boats. Lake Arrowhead is of course, an exclusive enclave, strictly controlled by the Arrowhead Lake Association, limiting access to only registered boats and individuals. For ordinary people like me, the shoreline view or a water ski lesson is about as close as you are going to get.... other than this boat ride on the Arrowhead Queen. (ps: it's funny that the owners here even allow this since everything is so controlled.) The tour's speaker regaled us with tales of the lavish lives led by wealthy residents. Names mentioned: Gene Hackman, Michelle Branch, Michael J. Fox, Ashley Tisdale, Terry Bradshaw, and Phil Mickelson... every house, of course had someone "interesting" living there and and plenty of stories of crime, grandeur and excess. Among the intriguing anecdotes, I learned about Charlie Chaplin's former house, purchased by Doris Day and she had to bulletproof the walls, windows, and doors for her own safety. The persons name (or corporation) that owns this house now... I forget the name...sorry. Such grand mansions surely hide numerous secrets, escape rooms for the privileged, elevators from the belly of the earth to the top parapet of the castle. I'm really not surprised. . . As I disembarked, I couldn't help but feel a mix of awe and reflection. The vast contrast between this world of abundance and my own life left me questioning my sense of self. Also, the website is indeed incorrect about tour times. You need to call to confirm. We were going to do the 5:00pm tour, but after reading a yelp review that said that they missed it, I decided to call. Sure enough, there was no 5:00pm tour so we had to rush down for the 3:30. I would have preferred the 5:00 tour, or even later. Sunset would be a great time to do this tour. Most importantly though... don't publish information online that's not always accurate. Sadly this review isn't one I typically like to leave but it was a bad enough experience that it has to be shared. The tour itself is the only water activity available for tourists because the lake is private so to take a little cruise on the water this is the only option. Approximately 1 hour in length you get a little history and pop culture information as you venture the shorelines. About half way through our tour a family that has 4 girls with them under 10 were entertaining themselves and the boat captain over the microphone yelled at them to be quiet because he couldn't concentrate on what he was saying then proceeded to make some stupid joke about the mom and kids walking the plank. Pretty disrespectful and quite disgusting of this captain to react in such a manner. These kids didn't bother anyone and neither them or the mother deserved his outrage. The father of the group did end up making complaints at the completion of the tour and the reminder of the trip was very quiet from the captain on giving a couple tidbits of facts following that realizing he made a huge mistake. Needless to say he didn't receive a single tip from any of the passengers on the exit of the boat. read more

Cure little tourist tour. Funny captain with extensive knowledge of history and little quips. Think jungle book tour ride thay lasts an hour. Nuggets of info packed with jokes and levity. You will tour the lake counterclockwise, keep that in mind when you board. Sit on the side you board from for slightly better views. The back bench seat area could use a little love on the seat cushions. They are cut and splitting, exposing the foam. Volume could be slightly louder. The Lake Arrowhead Queen Boat tour is a very interesting trip around Lake Arrowhead where you can see the full private lake and some of the homes surrounding the lake, and also get a pretty comprehensive history of the lake and the celebrities that live around it. Our Captain was Don, and he had a great sense of humor. He really enjoyed being our guide and telling us a lot of funny stories about people who have lived there, movies made, and lots of miscellaneous info. The trip takes about 1 hour and costs $18.50 per adult, 16:50 for seniors, and I believe it was $14.00 for children. The two of us went on the tour at 11:00 am. You need to buy tickets in advance at Leroy's which is located just near the Queen's dock. It is a good idea to get there early since they do tend to sell out, but they run several times through the day. It is also best to get to the dock just before takeoff so you can board the boat early and find a good seat. I suggest sitting on the right side of the boat since the boat takes off and goes around the lake counter clockwise. I don't want to point out any of the celebrity homes or history, since it is pretty neat hearing it for the first time. It is not too costly to see the full lake. Remember Arrowhead Lake is private and there are not very many ways you can get to the shore or see the homes along the shore unless you live there, or belong to the ALA (Arrowhead Lake Association). Enjoy the photos, and try to plan a trip there in a fall. read more

Caption Adrian was a delight. We took the 1p tour on Wednesday while staying in Arrowhead for our anniversary. It was great to learn the history behind the lake and all the gorgeous houses. Adrian was very entertaining and knowledgeable. Unfortunately our 2 year old got bored and restless after about 45 minutes so make sure the little ones have snacks and something to keep them occupied if looking at the water and ducks isn't enough for them. Lake Arrowhead is private so without ownership or your own boat, it's hard to actually get on the lake. The Arrowhead Queen Tour is one of the only ways to easily get on the water! Tickets can be purchased from Leroy's the day off. I highly recommend going early in the day if there's a specific time you're trying to get your party on. You'll also want to line up at least 15 mins ahead of time to get a good spot on the boat. I recommend sitting on the side that you enter on. If you're facing the captain, it's the right side. This is the side that gets to see everything. The boats can only travel in one direction so if you're sitting on the other side, you'll only see the water and not the houses being talked about. The tour is 50 mins and the captain has a lot of funny stories and information to share. I found it interesting and relaxing! When we first entere, I was nervous about how rocky the boat may be but as we got moving, it wasn't an issue. read more

I had always thought of Lake Arrowhead as an appendage of the other lake up there on the top of that hill as I am more of a desert and coast sort of guy. If you don't have a way to get out on the lake and have a look at the beautiful homes; or even if you do, I would suggest that you invest the $28 and an hour of your time to see the homes and hear the stories of the area. It turns out this is where the rich and famous hide when they are not off globetrotting and have developed this into one of So-Cal's hidden gems. Our Captain told us stories about how the lake was formed and people who have (I would guess still) live there in spectacular homes on the shore. Shirley Temple, the Carpenters, Michael Eisner, Sammy Hagar, Axel Rose, Paris Hilton, Michelle Kwon, Patrick Swayze... and a lot of other names I can't remember all have built or owned homes on the lake and their homes are as spectacular as you would imagine! I want to say that Captain Craig really is the reason this trip got 5 stars! I really appreciate doing a tour with someone that takes so much interest in their work. This is a precious little tour. The interior of the boat is adorable. The views are spectacular. Definitely worth doing once.

As we enjoyed lunch at the Taproom, looking down we were able to see the tour boat 'Arrowhead Queen'. After finishing our lunch, we scooted to Leroy's to purchase tickets for the tour. Since time was short, they handed us 2 passes, telling us to come back and pay, when there will no rush! I'm not making this up. We met Captain Craig, then got on-board for our tour of the lake. We learned about the history of the area, construction of the lake, and of many of the famous people owning homes in the immediate area. The captain handled control of the ship and was a tour guide. Captain Craig was terrific. He narrated the tour, guided the boat, sang, and told so many corned jokes. It was a real treat. This tour is worth every cent! We came to the Lake Arrowhead for a week stay. While strolling along the lake side, we came upon the Queen boat tour sign. The tour is a 50 minute narrated boat tour. We went to the Leroy shop which is only a short distance to the right of the dock to purchase the tickets. The cost per person is $16.50 for seniors and $18 for regulars. Captain Craig was our captain and narrator. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the lake and the town. During the tour, he was funny, entertaining, and dazzled us with his singing ability imitating Elvis Presley (blue suede shoes) and Frank Sinatra (my way). In addition, he can drive the boat backward, navigate through the water, and talk to us at the same time! It was a nice tour around the lake seeing celebrities' houses and their docks. There are many steps from the house to the dock. We especially enjoyed Captain Craig's jokes about running up 168 steps to the house in case one forgot to bring the keys! We highly recommend the boat ride if you visit the Lake Arrowhead. read more
