Let me preface this review with this. This was purchased from their food truck. This does not reflect the restaurant. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and the pulled pork French fries. I wanted to try both. First the pulled chicken was cold. No where on the sandwich was it relatively warm. It is not really pulled it is more cut and cubed. You do get a lot of chicken but I could not tell if it was because it was cold or if it was the smoke but it tasted as if the bun or the chicken was frozen and one time or another. Next I had the fries. You got a lot with the meal but it was the same sauce as the chicken. It was a little warm and the fries were soggy. To me it seemed that the sauce was oddly similar to Sweet Baby Rays. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not. Don't get me wrong I like sweet baby Ray's but I like an original taste. It also was supposed to come with coleslaw but when a lady in front of me asked why hers didn't come with it the guy in truck just said hey we ran out and forgot to change the board. Enjoy. So I didn't even bother my order was already in and I didn't want to fight over coleslaw. I gave it an extra star just because it was a truck and not at the restaurant. I will not be trying the truck again. I will not rule out the brick and mortar but the truck is a no go from here. read more

Folks, this is not BBQ. I gave it three stars because it's clean and the food didn't scare me. We were passing through and hungry. I read the reviews and we stopped. The chicken was moist but no smoky flavor. BBQ sauce seemed straight from a grocery store jug. Sides - swt pot, coleslaw, corn bread, dirty rice - mediocre. Well, took a chance on this one as I drive by it quite often and there was a deal on GroupOn, which definitely is a good thing. It's a great way to get people in to try and hopefully return, kudos on taking the risk. First off, walking in, it's very utilitarian and gets right to the point of things. There's no confusion really and that's definitely a good thing. BBQ shouldn't be confusing and they make it rather straight forward. I like that, the fact that the place smelled heavenly didn't hurt either. The staff was very friendly as well, never a bad thing. That said, my wife and I decided to go for different options here. I went with the pulled pork and dirty "BBQ" rice along with cornbread and sweet potatoes. All of it was good and the pork very tender, though for me, I would've liked a little more sauce (my fault for not asking for more though). My wife ended up going with the brisket, baked beans and cornbread over regular white rice. The brisket was a little thinly sliced but she enjoyed it immensely and when taking a taste myself, couldn't find any complaints at all. As for the sides? The sweat potatoes were creamy and had a great taste, just finding it as a side is welcome up north for me, and the cornbread was unbelievably good. Overall, the portion sizes are a little small and the thinness of the brisket is a bit off putting. Definitely will be going back to try the ribs and chicken though, so once that happens I'll be able to give a little more in-depth look at things. For now, the 4 stars will stand on a first impression. read more

Not good ribs at all. We tried the pulled chicken sandwiches previously at the WestMoreland Arts and Heritage festival. While the sandwiches there were small we said let's go sometime soon and try something else. Well, tonight was the night, and we had the ribs and they were awful. Fatty, and so tough I was breaking utensils trying to cut them Apart. Plus, as other reviews mentioned, there is NO way these were slow cooked and they were way too pink. I won't be surprised if we get sick. To pay over $30 for what we "ate" is a crime. The Rosemary potatoes were ok but not cooked enough. Baked beans were fine As was cornbread. We will not be back. Better ribs to be had at Chili's or Applebees and that's saying something. read more

This place is great, I had the ribs and chicken. My daughter had the pulled pork which she loved. The one problem is if you want to try another meat you have to get another meal, I got to try more sides. Ok I tried the creamy coleslaw which was sweet and yummy, the baked beans were just ok, the red potatoes were just ok too, and the dirty rice was just great. The outside doesn't look very nice but we were greeted by very friendly young lady ( who told us she had been working there 5 years ) who explained the menu and showed us the options. We all pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches with beans, corn bread, and yam casserole (which was very sweet). The food was good, not great....I wish it had been hotter in temperature. By the time we sat down the chicken and beef were warm but not hot.... Paper towels were the industrial brown rolls on the table....napkins or regular paper towels would have been better or perhaps even wipes. Bottom line...for the money it was a good value and the service was fast and extremely friendly. We don't have BBQ restaurants where we live so this was a nice alternative. read more

I was really craving random barbecue goodies like cornbread, sweet potatoes, etc. and this place was recommended. I had hoped that it would live up to its recommendation, but I was a bit disappointed. The food was reasonably priced and the staff were diligent and friendly, but the actual food left a lot to be desired. I have a sweet tooth myself, but for some reason everything in the assortment of my order was *too* sweet to finish. The baked beans, sweet potato casserole, and cornbread tasted like somebody swapped the salt shaker with sugar by accident. My boyfriend ate the pulled pork and it, too, tasted like it was marinated in a cup of sugar. The potatoes were okay but, again, just overly seasoned, and I actually really LOVE rosemary but it was just too much. I appreciate good seasoning, but sometimes the old philosophy "less is more" holds true. Maybe this place is better known for something else on the menu that we didn't order, but I'm not planning a special trip any time soon to find out. I'm usually not critical of restaurants, but I have to say, probably the worst brisket I've ever eaten. Brisket was extremely fatty, as if the bottom wasn't trimmed before cooking. I ordered a plate to go that had about 3/4 fat, and about 1/4 meat. It just wasn't good. The dirty rice had a weird, vinegary taste to it. It also wasn't good. The sweet potatoes tasted good. All in all, I wouldn't go back. Brisket is either great or it isn't. There's no in between. I'm a little biased when it comes to barbecue, though, having lived in Texas(brisket) and I also frequently visit Louisiana(dirty rice). If you're gonna cook brisket, cook it right. If not, just leave it off the menu. read more

Would have given this place a 2, but it's one of the few local, independent restaurants in the vicinity, so I'll add a star for that. It's also clean, which earns it its second star. But the pork ribs were really bad, so 3 stars is all it gets. There are a few things that are really important for barbecue. Having good meat, and preparing it well, are perhaps the most important. And in that, this place falls short. First, the ribs were really, really tough. I'm pretty sure they weren't slow cooked, just shoved in an oven for a while. Despite that, it seemed like they might be a bit undercooked, which is really worrisome for pork. The sauce was fine, but nothing special---mostly sweet, not particularly spicy or peppery. The baked beans tasted like they came out of a can (though for that they were tasty), and the corn bread was more chewy than I personally prefer. They also didn't have fountain drinks, or even freshly brewed sweet tea. Coming from Atlanta, that's a shock! All in all, a mediocre experience. This place has to start slow-cooking its meat if it wants to be known for barbecue. read more

I've been here twice, both times with my ultimate frisbee team when playing in a local tournament. Each time we've gotten great service and a ton of delicious food. You can choose chicken, pork, or brisket, along with two sides. It's hard to choose what to get. I was treated by two very friendly staff. They explained the menu and I chose the pulled Chicken BBQ bowl. It was a lot of food with two sides. All of this for under 10 bucks and a tip. I enjoyed their BBQ but was disappointed that they had no lettuce. Since one of their 3 options for the 3 meats they offered is a salad version, it like they were missing 30% of their menu. Not what I expected. I bought a 1/2 rack of ribs and brisket. The ribs were ok. Not very tender and the sauce wasn't what I liked. I also had the brisket. That was a shock. I have had plenty of brisket but never have I seen wafer thin slices of brisket. Of course it was tender. That thin anything would be tender. I just didn't like it. It was clean. First time here, found it on Yelp. Two of us eating, bill was $19. Overall the food was fine, but not a place I would go out of the way for. The Brisket was good as was the pulled pork. We had sides of baked beans, cornbread, apple slaw, sweet potato casserole. The beans were nothing special. The casserole I would get again, but my wife's is better. I liked the apple slaw and would get that again. Slaw with Grannie Smith apples in it. Good flavor. The cornbread is not southern cornbread. It is a type of bread with pieces of corn in it. Good flavor, but dense and heavy. Maybe a bad bake on it. All drinks are bottles and cans including water. By state law restaurants must provide tap water on request. Clearly something this restaurant is not use to doing, but did provide a small cup when asked. read more

This place has some of the best barbecue you can find in the Pittsburgh area, hands down. Their pulled pork is on point. In my opinion, I'm not a fan of their brisket. Pulled chicken is tough to pull off but theirs is pretty good. My favorite thing here is the sides. Their sides are seriously great. They have multiple styles of coleslaw, all delicious. My favorite thing is the sweet potato casserole. They also have the best cornbread in the area, hands down. My only complaint here is that they give you so much food. So I guess that's good? We happened to be in New Stanton, PA, for lunch and about to get on the PA turnpike, and this place really surprised us! It is an unassuming restaurant in what looks like a pit stop for a trip. You wouldn't expect to get such good food! We got the pulled pork bowls. The man serving us was friendly and enthusiastic about the food. He walked us through the order. The portions were big, the barbecue was excellent, and the sides were great. I really liked both slaws and the rosemary potatoes. There was so much we took some to go. My husband and I stopped in here once, in need of a quick dinner. The food was tasty and portions decent. However, there was one problem. It was a cold, rainy day and the restaurant was freezing! It was so cold, in fact, that our food was cold almost immediately. (If it was even warm to begin with.) The place has an uncomfortable feel to it, but it's not really a big issue, since this is more of a 'fast food' type place. They were very organized with all the lunches labeled with names and placed in individual bags. I pick up lots of large orders, and many times I'm treated like a nuisance. Not here! Made sure we had extra sauce too. All the sides were delicious. I tried baked beans, corn bread, creamy cole slaw, sweet potatoes and potato salad. This food was AWESOME! The cornbread was as if they took fresh sweet corn cut right off the cob, added some egg and a little magic and it was great! The brisket bowl could not have been better. This perfectly cooked brisket sat atop a bed of white rice with bbg sauce and cilantro. I also had some of their sweet potatoes. Again they surprised me with how good it was.
