Found this little gem on our way home from Cincy. Had to take back roads due to traffic issues on I-80. Hubby had brisket and a side of their homemade baked beans. I had pulled chicken and potato salad. They serve sauce on the side. Sauce was tangy and the baked beans were a bean medley with interesting spices - very good. Everything was delicious with generous portions. Sunday night, the place wasn't busy; the service was quick, friendly and efficient. This is a bbq diner on the side of the road. It was clean and comfortable. The only suggestion we have, is we would have preferred our food to be a little hotter. Definitely recommend. read more

Don't waste your money. Very disappointing. I bought ribs and they had no flavor, no meat, and they didn't grill them with the sauce on at all. Not cheap either. Now I know why there are never any cars in the parking lot. The employees that I interacted with there were very nice though. read more

I've been coming to Pittsburgh barbecue for the past 10+ years and have been big fan of their brisket buying it as a sandwich combo with 1 side and a drink and consistently getting a gut-busting portion of juicy flavorful smoked brisket meat on a hard roll. This last time however noticeably not as good as it used to be. Have times changed? The meat portion was noticeably smaller (can't really blame Covid related Shrinkflation for that as I have been there several times in the past 3 years) the amount of meat was not only smaller but it was more fatty and chewy. The beans were at least good. Will have to see if it was just a one off meh experience or a true downward trend. Time will tell. read more

Finding BBQ in Pittsburgh is tough! This place is about 12 miles from me but it's the closest thing in sight! Location is awkward, out of the way and right on the highway with about 4-5 gravel parking spots in all. Food: pretty good selection with chicken, brisket, pulled pork and ribs available. The half chicken was well seasoned, juicy and good. The ribs had enough meat and went well with the sauce. The brisket was a bit disappointing. It's cut into thin, dry slices and not fatty or smoked enough. Definitely leaves a lot to be desired after coming from Bear's BBQ in CT or any Southern place that serves burnt ends. Sides: not bad! I got 3 cornbread and it's more casserole-like than bread like which is fine with me b/c it's sweeter and softer. Cole slaw was fine and the baked apples was a nice dessert. I might try the mac and cheese next time. Price: on the higher side for a take out place, but at least each portion comes with rolls and sauce on the side. The combos include 2 sides and a drink so that was cool for a complete meal. I just wish they could have included napkins, utensils and some plates since we took all our food straight to a picnic. Good thing I packed all those things as back up already. People: there were 4 ladies working when I went on a Saturday evening and they were all really nice and ready to answer all the questions I had. That spicy version of their BBQ sauce was actually really spicy. Beware. The regular sauce was okay--a bit vinegary but not bad. I will recommend this place for a quick BBQ fix. read more

After some investigation as to why they are not open I have an answer. They close temporarily during the off season. They will reopen for the season during the second week of March. However their website does not disclose this and there are no signs on the building as well. I am happy about this as I want me some BBQ. read more

The best barbecue I've found in the area. We were at a loss for dinner and tired of the same routine. We decided we wanted barbecue and knew this place existed. We drove 15 miles to get this and we were not disappointed. We ordered 1lb shredded chicken, 2lb pulled pork, 1lb brisket and the spicy sauce and the regular sauce. Results Regular sauce is a little tangier than we liked Spicy sauce has the perfect amount of heat and cue. Pulled pork was really good, juicy and tender Pulled chicken good, but not as juicy as the pork (for obvious reasons) The brisket is phenomenal. A strong smokey flavor paired excellent with the sauce. I did end up missing sweet baby ray's sauce with their sauce to cover a little of the tang, but the meat was so good I didn't even care. I've eaten the leftovers from our Sunday dinner every day for the past 3 days at least once that day. If you can get there and they are open.... BUY YOUR BARBECUE FROM THEM, THEIR FOOD IS EXCELLENT. read more

I can start off by saying, this place has the BEST BBQ sauce outside of NC, I have had. I always get extra. In defense of the brisket (which I usually get) mine has always had great smoke rings and have been very moist. I don't usually get ribs so I can't say anything either way, but the pulled pork and chicken were both very tasty. The cornbread does ROCK, and the slaw is delicious to me. I do agree with the others that Clems is also an EXCELLENT option for BBQ, but come on guys, this is hardly just down the street! At minimum this is an additional 30+ minutes and that is if when you get to Clems they aren't sold out. This has happened more than once to me getting there hours before close. I know that is a good sign for a business but really a waste of potential to sell out 2-3 hours before you close. I like them both, but if you live closer to the city. Pittsburgh BBQ, is a great stop with great sauce! read more

Bottom line: Do the cornbread and baked beans two step and you'll be happy. Leave the meat to Clem's down the street. This is the 2nd carry-out location for the company. Parking is ok and there are a couple of picnic tables out at front but I wouldn't hang out there. It's carry-out and fairly efficient at that. I wasn't that impressed by their style of BBQ or the mouth feel/flavor of the meat. I think there is a certain appeal if you like your pulled pork on the drier side or the brisket on the leaner side; to me, delicious brisket starts off super fatty and marbleized such that only tender loving care in a seasoned getup can deliver mind blowing brisket. The brisket is on the leaner side and doesn't manage that magical balance between slippy tasty grease and utter disgust. The pulled pork is a little dry as well and the tangy twang of the bbq sauce (maybe as their glaze) leaves a few faded foosteps that isn't overwhelming. But, like it's brisket brethren (or rather, bovine cousin), it's underwhelming. Now on the sauce.... DANG IT"S TANGY! It's not really sweet or savory but it's got a sharp, almost citrus taste to it that was totally unexpected. I planned on slathering it on when I saw the little tubs get put into our carry out bag but ended up only lightly drizzling my sandwich. Since these are the show stoppers, I have to say I've experienced better. Especially down the street at Clem's on Route 22: their style of bbq results in a more even and deep flavor and is worth the extra drive out there from Murrysville or Monroeville. On the plus side, the cornbread was fabulous and satisfying. It's dense like lead but soft and brittle when you bite into it or slay it with a fork. And the actual corn kernels are a nice touch. $2 a pop might seem a lot but pair it with their FANTASTIC beans and you got a winning combination. The beans are sweet, savory, and tender. Exactly what the meat ought to have been. The pieces of bacon are a delight and this 1-2 punch of cornbread and beans justified the ride out there. It's also cost effective (~$8-12 for a family size?) and totally worth every penny. The meat isn't that bad in the wallet either; it's ~$16-18 a pound but shaved and pulled, it turns out to be a lot of food. Oh, and stay away from the macaroni salad. Pulled chicken sandwich was large but the sauce was very heavy on the vinegar and light on the Barbecue flavor. Half chicken was average. Boston Market chicken is better. Some of the leanest, tenderest beef brisket I've ever eaten. The baked beans were interesting. A mix of three different types of beans, and they were spicy. The coleslaw was okay, not quite creamy enough for my liking, but thankfully it wasn't vinegary. Seating is very limited. Only four booths, which seat four people each. The reason, I believe, is that most of their business is probably to-go orders. The portions were very large. I've been here a number of times and have tried many of the foods here. Most of the time I've went with the brisket, which at times has been amazing, and other times, has just been okay. The last experience with the brisket was not a great one, so I went with the spare ribs this last time around. Since I haven't had the ribs before, it was quite the surprise when I started to eat them. The good parts: 1. The flavor was amazing and had a perfect smoke flavor. The ribs were also maintained a lot of moisture. 2. Whatever finishing sauce he put on them before handing them to me was probably the best thing I've had in BBQ. I would bathe in that shit it was so delicious. 3. The portion size (half rack) was plenty for myself and for my lunch the next two days. 4. The sides are always good and the mac and cheese is some of the best I've had from any BBQ place this side of the Mississippi (and I travel a ton). The not so good parts: 1. For spare ribs, they were a little sticky on the bone from other BBQ places I've been to. They were cooked as more of a St. Louis style than what I'm used to seeing. 2. The BBQ sauce leaves a bit to be desired. Heavy on the vinegar, which is good if you like that type of stuff, but it also seems to have a bit of a commercial taste to it. 3. The price is a bit steep, but see comment 3 above. All in all, this place is the best in this particular area as the options are very limited. It's more than a solid place to eat if you are looking for something outside the usual crap that's around here. read more

Never had the chance to taste any food, but the service we had the one day was not good at all. Me and my father got 3 pounds of pulled pork and when we got there, the boy at the counter tried charging us almost twice as much as we were told on the phone. There was only 1 couple eating in the restaurant at the time and they would not budge their price even after their slow business day. I don't know if the boy is still working there or not, but the service was not good at all. Have wanted to try this for a long time! The only bad thing is that we waited so long to try it! Upon entering we were greeted by the friendliest staff ever! We ordered the St. Louis ribs, cornbread, mac & cheese and coleslaw. Everything was excellent! I know it's a rib place but since my love of carbs conquers all, my favorite thing was actually the cornbread! Homemade with fresh corn in it -- it melted in your mouth. Great little BBQ, and much preferred over the overpriced Clems BBQ up the road. On this visit we had the Brisket sandwiches. The sandwiches were loaded with meat, and perfectly cooked. Overall a great little BBQ joint on route 22. I will be back again for sure. read more

I was kind of torn by this place. The value is pretty good, they give you a ton of meat and large side items for the price. We got Brisket, and Ribs. The ribs fell right off the bone. The Brisket was very good too, probably better than most I've had. My only complaints were the sides were not very good at all, we had the mac and cheese, which was ok, and the potato salad, which I didn't like at all. I wish they had more choice of sauce too. The sauce they have is pretty good, but it's a bit spicy, so halfway through the meal, I'm kinda wishing I had something a little milder to finish the meal with. The best thing about the place is the cornbread, it was the best I've ever had. I'd stop there just to pick some of that up. So I said I was torn, but in the end, I'd probably get the meat for takeout, some corn bread, skip the sides and make my own sides at home. read more

Go the extra few miles to Clem's! This is the second visit for me, last one was a year ago and nothing is improved. I bought 1/2rack of large ribs... Some kind of mystery cut with small white bones running crosswise to the main ribs. At best I world say the ribs were stale....like cooked a couple of days ago and kept lukewarm till the outer meat turned into a inpenetrable crust ....the outside rib went directly to trash as unedible, as did most of the rest! Time before I had brisket. It was dry and tough and cut with grain instead of cross grain which made it even tougher! Meats are in a showcase like steam table but not very hot. Slaw and beans sides were ok but seasoning was a bit odd. Both very vinegary and beans quite peppery! Half Chicken was ok, but not roasted with barbeque mop sauce...just rotisserie chicken with BBQ sauce on the side! read more

Stopped in here on way home from the city to NJ last Thursday. I could not decide between pork and brisket. The nice lady gave me a small sample of each. Both were good but I thought the brisket beat out the pork slightly. Mainly based on the rub. Got a combo which I thought was a plate but was sandwich and 2 sides. Brisket sandwich was excellent. Was sliced thin which I usually find is caution tough meat but NOT the case. Roll was good too and good size sandwich. The sides were OK, slaw was fair and I think had some sort of celery seasoning although she said no to celery seeds. Beans were better as they were a mix of various beans which is uncommon but good. A bit on the pricey side but BBQ takes a lot of work and people are in business to make money. Will surely stop in again. Is not open 7 days so check. read more

Let me start by saying I've ate a lot of BBQ in my time. Most of it from the south. This place was the worst I have eaten. Period. The coleslaw was so bad I could not even eat it. Beans were good. This place is great! I ordered a half rack of ribs and they were very good. I saw someone complain about their prices on Yelp below, and that's just silly. For 12, a half-rack here is a solid deal. Lots of tender meat. The brisket was the right amount of smokey-flavor I want in my bbq. Mac&Cheese was good. The baked beans were sweet & spicy. I don't normally write bad reviews about companies, however, I was disappointed with my interaction with the chef at the bridal show I attended this weekend. I have celiac disease and have to be VERY careful about making sure that anything that I eat is gluten free. I politely asked if the meat sample was gluten free, and the chef facetiously say that it wasn't and I will get cramps, vomit, and WILL DIE! Needless to say, it seemed very inappropriate that a chef should be so insensitive to dietary restrictions, especially to a potential client at a bridal show! read more
