I spend way too much money here. It adds up quick. You can go for just a few things or with a budget in mind like $100...last time I went to get some violets and cone flowers and spent $200.... I especially love their houseplant selection, I have nearly 100 different houseplants and many of them came from here including a bunch of carnivorous plants, my favorite being butterwort and drosera. They probably have one of the best tropical and houseplant selections within a few hundred miles. My girlfriend and I often go together and spend $300 each per trip. Their outdoor plant selection is even bigger. They don't have very many aquatic plants but they do carry a few. I usually buy a ton of perennials for my yard and front garden each year and a few annuals. The one thing I will not buy here is trees. Their trees are quite a bit over priced and they don't stand behind them. We spent a few thousand dollars on trees last year, many of them $100+ each and we had about 20% of them die within a year. For paying that much more and having no warranty, you are better off going almost anywhere else. And they will not cut you a deal if you want to buy a bunch to line a driveway or fence line like Adcock's and some other nurseries will. The only time I've had them give me a deal is if they've had something sit for a year or more. They have a great selection of pots and statues as well and they are also premium priced. I sometimes get one or two here if I see something unique and cool but mostly I buy that stuff elsewhere. They have a great rare area, most of that stuff is in the main building where the restroom and bird supplies are. As it would be anywhere else, that stuff is expensive but you can get plants that you won't see anywhere else. The staff is extremely helpful. This very-cool nursery is about five miles outside of Sanford, and worth the drive from Wake County for us. It's beautiful--neat, clean and well organized with several greenhouses. I was just there for herb seedlings, and they had a lot of them. Prices were decent, and maybe a bit lower than at the big-box stores. Service was friendly, and they had three areas where you could pay, so no one had to wait long. Be sure to check out the shop, too. It has lots of great accessories for the perfect garden. read more

Disclaimer: This nursery hands down outpaces all of the wake county nc nurseries, big box stores combined. Selection: unbeatable. I spent 2 hours going through all of the multiple greenhouses they have, pottery racks, shrubs trees isles. It's endless. There were items that are only carried by niche nurseries. Some were just much more varieties. It was like walking thru a living plant catalog , literally! Price: there is an affordable price point for all levels. They beat Cary Garden Supply Company and Fairview Nursery. There was a blooming maple tree that was out of stock at Plants Delight Nursery, but plenty on hand here but not as expensive. I purchased a few evergreens for about $5 more each plant vs an online source but with shipping, i still came out ahead. Not to mention they were already 4-5 feet tall but at the online price of a 1 foot length and acclimated to NC temps. On google there are lots of online pics, but I wanted to bring many pics to yelp as well. Staff was friendly, owner doing this for 40 years, lovely kitty cats greet you. Moving forward, for my plant, tree, shrub needs, I will shop here. So glad I found this place! read more

What a great nursery in Sanford! There are several greenhouses filled with Tropicals, Perennials, Succulents, Annuals, and everything in between. There are literally rows upon rows of beautiful plants. I went there with a few of my friends on the weekend. It wasn't too busy so it was nice to be able to see the plants without bumping into anyone. We eventually split up because we like different kinds of plants! I found a silver squill in two sizes- a full 6 inch basket for about $11 and a smaller one for about $5, which is the size I bought. I saw many varieties of Coleus plants, begonias, cacti, monsteras, succulents, spider plants, and so many more. The staff is friendly and check out was quick. It got pretty warm in the greenhouses though, and it was a crisp fall day. I hate to think how hot it gets in there during the summer! In any case, this nursery is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. read more

This place has a gargantuan selection of really cool plants and very reasonable prices for quality well-grown plants. It is a elysium for the plant connoisseur, but it carries a huge array of more popular items, including petunias, zinnias, marigolds, and pelargoniums. One great strength is hostas. Really nice plants and very reasonable prices. The drive here from Chapel Hill is on nice roads. Along the way, you go through Pittsboro, which has some pretty great places for lunch. A trip here makes a nice road adventure. Be ready to do plenty of planting when you get home; your wagon will overflow. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for vegetables and flowers. They have a great selection and the prices are good . The other patrons there were looking at us as if they had never seen black people before or as if we didn't belong. But the customer service was great. I've been to a lot of local nurseries, and the flower selection at Big Bloomers can't be beat. Annuals - These are mostly located in the hot houses to the right of the main building (but there are some perennials there, too). They have several varieties of all my favorites: celosia, vinca, snapdragons, zinnia, giant marigolds. Why, oh WHY did I buy my vinca a couple weeks ago from Lowe's? BB's has a dark purple vinca (that I've never seen before) that I wish I had room for. Prices are slightly more expensive that the big box stores. Usually will you pay for a six pack at Lowe's will only get you a four pack here. But for the variety, it's WORTH IT! Perennials - You could spend hours going through the perennial houses. They are behind the main building... mostly organized by type (sun-loving, shade-loving, indoor, succulents) and then in alphabetical order. It's great to just walk down the aisles and browse. You'll definitely be amazed by the amount of varieties of everything! It seems like 20 different coneflowers! 30 different salvias! Several types of ornamental grasses. Again, it's not super cheap, but not expensive. Especially when you consider how hard it is to find this much variety anywhere else! Cement Statues - I've been looking around a few area cement places... and the statues at BB's seem to be of much higher quality than most places I've looked at. Shrubs/Trees - They have a normal size selection. I think their prices are a little high... and you can get most of the same stuff from other nurseries for cheaper. Another great way to describe BB's to people: You know when you are reading a gardening book or magazine and you see a picture of an AMAZING flower? And you can't find it anywhere? It's VERY likely they have it at Big Bloomers! The drive is a little far for me, but it's worth the trip! read more

I am on a pursuit to grow a green thumb and am always looking for different nurseries to see beautiful plants and find inspiration. Big Bloomers Flower Farm is actually the only nursery near where I live for miles and miles, lest I go to Raleigh or Charlotte and so I was surprised that the one option I had was a home run. This is a pretty huge nursery that has just about everything your heart could want (except a fiddle leaf fig tree apparently, which is what I went there to buy). The only downside is that you should definitely be prepared to walk out of the store with a truckbed full of plants- walking out empty handed is not an option. I went in looking for something specific that they unfortunately didn't have but not to fear, I walked out with about five other plants, My most satisfying purchases were the burro's tail and the string of pearls. To be honest, they weren't in as good of shape as their other plants are (because almost everything is green and so healthy) but I was happy to purchase it because it's not abundant in every nursery I go to. What a wonderful place! I know nothing about plants but the sweet people at Big Bloomers kindly showed me how to start my garden and boxes for the season. They answered all of my newbie questions with respect and took great care of me. Bonus: I'm pregnant and had a toddler in tow. They helped us get around and check out while providing extra hands. I am taking a friend to BBFF today & we are both excited about going. It's her first time my 10th. I buy most of my succulants at BB because of the health & variety of the plants they have. They have a vast number including many varieties of sedum, aloe, echevaria, agave, haworthia and much more. I've even picked up a few exotic Succulants too. Also, I've picked up plants specific fertilizers, hanging baskets & the hardware for them. They have bonsai, and ornamental shuns, they basically have everything even lawn decor. I've been very happy with all of my purchases & highly recommend. The prices are not low, they're pretty fair though but they have specials & some discounted plants. But I came primarily for the succulants & and its so close to my home. I call a couple times a year to buy my mom a gift certificate and have it waiting for her at the counter (I live in Colorado my mom lives in Sanford) and they are always so accommodating. My mom's favorite garden store. Well recently I ordered flowers for my mom online from a national company for our first Father's Day after my dad died, and the company (Avas Flowers) called me several hours before delivery and said they couldn't deliver. I called big bloomers and talk to Gail, one of the owners. I told her about my situation and she was so friendly and caring and took care of me and my mom and personally delivered gorgeous flowers in a beautiful pot to my moms house.
