Honestly, this is the most average of burgers. Simply put, the restaurant is very much on the smaller side, its pricey, burgers don't come with any sides - not even fries! (at $14/pop) - and the side of aioli that came with the plate wasn't even properly mixed (separate white/Mayo + red/Sriracha). The meat was a decent girth but still on the smaller side, so two of us ordering two burgers, two fries (not worth it), and a (watered down) drink came to $49...like, is this real life? It should have been no more than $20, AT BEST. Atmosphere is meh, small seating area with wood benches and metal seats across. A small soda fountain, self-serve ketchup and mustard station (basic brands), and a recycled paper towel roll on the table for napkins. In other words, it's a very basic burger joint so the food had better be great for the price, right? Not the case, unfortunately. Paid street parking, first come. Service was just okay, not the friendliest, by any stretch, but super fast (we got our burgers 4 minutes after placing the order - fast food level of speed). This burger place was mad fire. I came here for dinner and wanted to check this place out since we were in the area. Their burgers were huge and cooked to perfection. I got a customized burger cooked perfectly and shared a order of Cajun fries. The burger was amazing and the fries were seasoned with old bay. What a clever concept to create a sandwich that is both sweet and salty. This was the Krispy Chicken Collaboration which was fried chicken, carolina reaper hot honey, mustard coleslaw, pickle chips, and doughnut buns from Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe. I was so shocked by the size when it came out and glad that I didn't order any sides. I almost couldn't finish the sandwich. I was unsure how it would taste but wanted to try it because it was different. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The sweetness of the honey and doughnut actually worked well and complemented the chicken. Although it got to be a bit rich so half of the sandwich would have been plenty to savor the flavor. The sandwich although bigger than average was pricy at $12.50 given that no sides were included. I also purchased the handcrafted root beer that was sweetened with Fair Trade Certified organic cane sugar with no GMO, no high fructose corn syrup, and it's gluten free. I loved it and wished all soda tasted this good. It was a bit pricy, for a small sized cup it was $2.79. The restaurant was a bit tricky to find. I think we drove right passed it. You can't see it if you're driving on Wilson Blvd. If you see Nando's you are close by. You'll see a sign that says Shops: Grand Cru, Big Buns, Nando's and Republik Coffee Bar. Walk down that passageway between Nando's and that sign and veer to your left. Parking was challenging to find as well. As much as I liked my visit, I'm inclined to only stop by if I'm in the area which is very unlikely. read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Only one short year ago I'd have likely described big buns as the best fast casual joint in all the DMV. I mean I likely did describe it that way in my prior review. But the last three visits have produced some rather lackluster meals. First, the precious Christmas season peppermint milkshake tasted, well, like vanilla. I made the mistake by ordering another on my next trip and same result. Also the portions used to be huge, with the kids meals providing enough fries for the whole fam. But no more. The prices though are the same. And the fried chicken sandwich used to provide me with 2 meals. But the last few visits, they were tiny relative to the former size. See my pics. On top of it all, last time I ordered the chicken, the middle was raw! To their credit, they made me a new one no questions asked but it was small and over cooked. I arrived around noon and the line was a bit long (maybe 7-8 people in front of me), but it moved quickly (that's always a plus). I ordered the Hot and Hefe with sweet potato fries and my friend ordered the collaboration burger with sweet potato fries. These burgers were really juicy and well seasoned! They usually cook the meat medium-well, but I am sure you can ask for your liking. The Hot and Hefe had a kick to every bite but not too painful. sweet potatoes fries weren't significantly good but maybe that's because my expectation was high from the burger. I saw the burger next and was so impressed with how it looked, that I could stare at it for hours. When I finally dug in I was super impressed with the smoky flavor and the fresh ingredients. The apple butter, the bacon, the fresh pimento cheese, and the fried egg work magic on this thing. I got pickles on the side and I am happy I did. The fries were plentiful and delicious just the same. Their "Crack" dipping sauce (aptly named) was tangy as well. I have zero complaints on the food quality. By the way, all burgers are cooked medium well, unless you specify otherwise. That works for me! For craft burgers, I think they did an amazing job.
