I ordered the Hot Mess and asked for the Mac & cheese and onion to be on the side. I wanted to try a bite with the Mac & cheese before committing to the whole burger. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed. The burger didn't have as much flavor as I have had in the past and the Mac & cheese was just noodles. I was expecting cheesier baked Mac & cheese. And I think there might have been some spicy kick to them too. I picked up my order and ate it a little later, but the sweet potato waffle fries were also not satisfying as they were really limp and soft. A few pieces were crispy so that makes me think it's how they were cooked and not because of the delay in eating them. I could have crisped them up in the oven but I didn't want to go through that trouble. I didn't finish them. I still like Holy Cow but hopefully have a better experience next time. read more

So I had to go to Del Ray tonight so decided to have dinner there. Upon ordering, I first said, I'd like my donation to go to the Animal Welfare League...and the cashier looked perplexed I then said Alexandria Animal Welfare League? He responded with, is that a burger? Clearly, he didn't really speak English! Frustrated, I said "never mind, I'll take a ......burger" and he promptly ordered and tallied my bill. Spent almost $50 on two meals for myself and my boyfriend. Order was completely butchered. Not only was the customer service subpar, the cashier who rung us up as incredibly rude. We never been and had questions about the menu. He treated us like we were a bother. Found out after we returned with our incorrect order that he's the manager. So I get back in line, and the tipping options then switched from percentages to $1, $2, $3, as if to maximize profit. The burgers and dogs are above the rest with flavor and price. We only ordered a sandwich and one order of sweet potato fries and didn't finish everything because the portions (and flavors) are sizeable. If you don't want to order from an extensive menu you can also build your own burger. I had the Snoop Dogg (not a regular dish), which for a non-dog person was great, and I scarfed it up. The burger patty itself was nice and juicy but at first I thought the burger as a whole was dry. I realized later that was because the chipotle ketchup and cream cheese was concentrated in the middle. After a few bites, the sandwich became much more delicious. My husband's burger came with cream cheese and there was truly and inch thick glob of cream cheese on the bun. Even with more then half removed it was way too much. The flavors were very good though so we decided to give Holy Cow another try and got a sandwich (with no sauce) to go. Dressing the sandwich myself was the way to go and I really enjoyed what I got! After finishing my sandwich I went to enjoy my fries and dumped the container out onto a plate and was disgusted to see a piece of hair wrapped around one of the fries that was at the bottom of the container.
