These are the names of the three Championship Nines that make up this challenging championship course. Each course has it's own set of challenges, with the Grind being the newest of the three nines. It is arguably the easiest nine holes to play but the most challenging to walk. It is designed around the perimeter of the property, going up to the highest point. It's quite different from the original eighteen holes. Personally, I like the unique challenges it presents, lots of changes in elevation. The original eighteen holes, The Grist and The Wheel, are more mature but a lot flatter, perhaps a little more challenging. Wednesday's round was a practice round for a tournament that I was hosting on Sunday. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate on either day, making the course less appealing than usual. While it wasn't soaking wet, some of the holes, especially on The Grind, needed a few dry days to come into shape. That's nobody's fault but Mother Nature's. As far as the tournament goes, everything went very well! The setup in the morning, the check-ins, the driving range, and the round were all good. After the round, the setup was equally good, with tables on the patio, BBQ on the terrace, and the food. The staff were very patient and helpful. Thank you to Matt Savage, Director of Golf, for all your help in arranging this tournament! And the staff for keeping us on time and on task. The food and service were all excellent!

Highland course review…read more We booked the highland course in error and it is an executive par 3 hidden away from the championship courses. I have played approximately 1400 golf games in my lifetime which is an average of about 35 rounds each year. I have played all over Canada, the USA, Thailand and even in Mombasa, Kenya and never have I played such a poorly maintained and dysfunctional course. The club house is a shack, the tee boxes are a mixture of sand and weeds, and even the cart girl had attitude. If you are even on a tight budget I strongly suggest another course because this is definitely not good value for the money however If are not fussy and you accept mediocrity then this might be the course for you.

First time playing here…read more The course is in very good shape. Not very long from the White Tees. The difficulty was playing your approach shots. Getting it close was a problem. Firm greens. Greens were fast with lots of undulations, making putting a challenge on every hole. Played in the morning. Pace of play was perfect. 3 hours 58 minutes. Bag drop area efficient. Pro Shop was very friendly. Beverage Cart was around only on the back nine but saw her three times. Clubhouse isn't open until 11 am so no breakfast. A little disappointed in that. Went in for a drink and snack afterwards and food was okay. Overall, a pleasant day. I'd come back for sure.

First time on the golf course this season and by noon when we were there, all the golf carts were taken, so I had to walk it. The smaller par 3 course barely had anyone there but maybe because it's so damn hot. By the 18th hole I was dying from the heat. We did take a lunch break in the clubhouse in between and caught a bit of the soccer game going on before repeating the 9 holes to finish 18. We ordered the fish tacos and Cobb salad. I didn't catch that then but I just noticed from pics last year we ordered fish tacos too and this year they gave us 2 instead of 3 tacos last year! And still listed for $24.... what a steep decline in value. I generally felt the prices are a bit higher than last year too, like $3.50 for a tiny cheap ice cream sandwich that's from a box you'll find at grocery stores... No worthwhile desserts at this spot. I think having a good cold dessert would be great coming out from a sunny day at the golf course. Missed opportunity there. The Cobb salad was fresh but I should've asked for dressing on the side. Service is great thought, server was always there checking and making sure we're taken care of. Well the plus is I notice this time that there is a sunscreen dispenser inside the washrooms, very much needed! Washrooms and change rooms are clean and as a female, it seems I always get the washroom, showers and lockers to myself. Barely any females at the course.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Bibimbap on the menu so I had to try it. It may not have been as authentic as what I've had at Korean restaurants but it was pretty good. I had requested no cucumbers and they were happy to comply. My playing partners seemed to enjoy their meals also. The restaurant was busy with many other golfers waiting out the rain. Unfortunately, it started raining a lot harder while we were eating and then came the hail and wind. We never made it out to the golf course. We would have needed a canoe to get around out there. Darn you, Mother Nature!

Played 18 holes here, first nine at Parkland, last nine at Forest…read more It was corporate golf tournament and I was coming from the states that morning and wasn't bringing any clubs with me so I called twice in advance to see if they could set aside some lefty women's clubs for me. They said sure and took my name. When I got there, about 1/2 hour before our start, they told me they don't have any lefty women's clubs at all... and it wasn't that they ran out-- they just didn't have any! That was frustrating since I had called ahead to check. Lefties never get any love! They did have one set but it was graphite and it might have been mens, which is probably why they said it would be heavier, but I didn't have any problems with it considering it was a one time rental. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and gave our group towels to keep our cart seats dry in the rain. The course is just beautiful with a variety of Par 3, 4 and 5's and the weather improved for us as we played. Nice locker rooms and facilities at the club house. They do cater on site although the food was just decent and nothing to get excited about. I believe this is a members only club so, if you're in the Toronto area and can get a member to include you, this is a great stop for a day of golf.

If you don't own a golf kit, fret not, you could rent one for about C$10.00. You could start your rounds by taking a few swings at the range which is located at Huronia & Mapleview though it's recommended to be at the course 20 mins before your scheduled tee-off time. The first 9 holes mostly contain the 3 par holes with exception of couple of par 4 holes. I've to admit I dont have a lot of experience with golfing in Canada or the USA but I found the experience very pleasant. Even though the temperatures soared to about 27°C, we could enjoy a couple of beers, there's a refreshments cart that keeps circling around the course, to quench our thirst and replenish our energy levels before completing our round. I always enjoy a hearty breakfast before a round of golf so I was happy to see the King's Cafe conveniently located near the pro shop. I ordered a three-egg omelette with Swiss and cheddar cheese, bacon and sausage, home fries, toast, and fresh fruits. It was prepared very well and was very filling. Great value for $11.00. The golf course was in good condition, despite the recent heavy rains. Some of the holes on the back nine were restricted to cart paths only. They were a little bit soggy. The putting greens were also in good shape, although a tad slow, again due to the recent weather. We did experience a little blip in the standards on the thirteenth hole. There was a crew doing some repairs to one of the greenside sand traps and they had a utility cart parked at the entrance to green, right in the line of fire. Typically, these crews have essential work to do but will be aware of golfers and wave players to play through. Not these guys. They continued working, even when we made it to the green, and completely ignored us. Not good. One point deducted. After the round (scores withheld to avoid embarrassment), we had a quick bite to eat in the cafe. We ordered the Kale and Beet Salad with Chicken, Beef Brisket sandwich with Mac and Cheese on the side, and a Nacho Burger with Kettle Chips that was being featured. The food was very good and the service was excellent! Overall, it was a good day, spent with friends, doing something that we enjoy, on a golf course that we liked, and the weather held up. I've played here many times because I have friends who are members here and I've hosted golf tournaments here. The pro shop and F&B staff are always very accommodating of our requests and the food quality is good. For today's round, we got rained out early into the back nine. Getting a rain cheque was no problem. With nothing else to do, we had lunch in the clubhouse. Today's special was a half a rack of ribs with coleslaw and potato salad. The ribs were cooked very well and fall-off-the-bone tender. Nice flavour. The potato salad and coleslaw were properly seasoned. I'm very particular about potato salad and most lack any kind of seasoning. This one was good. As long as St. Andrew's Valley keeps doing things right, I'll keep making the 45 minute drive from home to get here.

Location: It's in Aurora east of yonge Street off on the north side of St. Johns side road. Parking: Golf course in the suburbs= lots of places for cars. They have a main lot and a side lot. You are good to go. Property: Golf course so lots of green. There are three buildings. A club house, a meeting building (where we were) and a barn where I think they keep the golf carts. Great landscaping and the buildings are cute. If you didn't know it was a golf course you would think it was a winery or those little shops that make their buildings look old time ish There's a cute patio off of the meeting building that looks out over the gf course. It's really nice Meeting building: It could be nicer inside. It's an 1980sand 1990s mix. The weird thing, everything seems new. They need to hire a decorator. Salmon paint in the washrooms. Not so classy Oh the washrooms, they have two women stalls in the washroom on the lower floor. Not the best when there's a meeting with a lot of women. You have to walk down stairs to get to them. If you can't walk down stairs you have to go to another building to use the accessible washrooms. That doesn't seem right. Minus one star. Oh they really need to clean the carpets, they are filthy. Visibly filthy Food: Yum The staff is able to take neutral foods, chicken-salmon-veg-pasta, and make it tastes great. Always more than enough for everyone, served on time and by smiling buffet staff. I also love their coffee. It's a welcome surprise compared to the weak water down stuff you get at other places Fruit trays were great, fresh and in season fruit. Dessert trays, heavy on the. We booked both the east and west wing. The grass was nearly kept. Had a lovely time. Tons of interesting challenges on the course and wildlife near the marshy area. The catered dinner was also good. Very genetic chicken with a balsamic gravy, Caesar salad and some sort of berry cake? If I golf more often, I'd come back :)
