**Pre Hurricane 2024 season visit review. So our experience here was pretty good. The server was really nice and friendly. He was able to get our drinks and pizzas out to us quickly. But it also felt like maybe he was the bartender as he would disappear for a while, helping people at the bar before remembering to come out and check on his tables. Stopped in for a college game day afternoon the other weekend. The game was on all tv's and everyone around was into it. Our server was quick to come by and quick to replace our drinks. We ordered queso and chips and later had a bbq chicken pizza. The small was perfect for the two of us and was surprisingly good. Crust was nice and crunchy and lots of cheese and caramelized onions. EAT HERE!!! This restaurant has been around about a year and I'm definitely glad they decided to set up shop just around the corner from the hotel I stay at when I Come down! First of all.. HUGE shout out to the two bar tenders we had over the MULTIPLE times we ate here.. Scotty and Paul. They are both stellar human beings and amazing at their job! We ate here multiple times and can't even remember everything we ate, but the drinks were strong and the food was totally worth it! Hit them up for happy hour for some pretty good deals. Big Cheezees was recommended to me by a regular tourist to Key West. She recommended a couple of other places too and was spot on. I visited this place during the week, for happy hour. Half off drinks 3-6pm, and the place was not crowded. Easily got a seat at the bar. I was promptly asked for my drink order, and it was brought....but nothing was asked if I want to order food or see a menu. I thought that to be strange. Anyway after I finished my beer, the bar tender asked if I wanted another? I did, and asked for a menu which was brought to me. I ordered the Smashburger, which was recommended from the regular tourist I met on the trolley. It was served up quickly and came with a healthy order of fries. Both the burger and fry were delicious! Also a group next to me ordered pizzas which looked very good as well, maybe something to keep in mind for next time. This is a very nice establishment. Once again this place knocks it out of the park. The Zippy bread in my opinion is a hidden gem. Multiple people saw it brought out to me and asked what it was. It is amazing in every way. The smoked ribs were so tender and flavorful, the dry rub keeps in the moisture and the meat is perfectly cooked, I could smell the smokiness on my hands the rest of the night. This place is such a great vibe, plenty of TVs showing any sports you want, they even had old school Baywatch playing! Young Jason Mamoa! The bartenders are genuine and cool people, will have a chat with you when it's not busy. And they have awesome live music here. Recently opened they had a limited menu. They were smoking some great looking slabs of meat but they weren't ready for us. It's a nice open atmosphere off Duval. Service is always mediocre. They are never that busy and never a full bar. Bartenders are slow and kind of out of it. One time a bartender gave me my check three times. Another time I asked about the tequila special and the bartender says we don't have it now it's only during games. I proceeded to look at the TV and I said well there's a game on. He goes "oh". Food for the most part is good. Wings are done pretty good. B+. They do have some good specials however, onion rings are way too over battered. Service and atmosphere were amazing. Smoked Wings were a little dry for my taste, but the sauce was great, flaming honey garlic, and made up for them being slightly overcooked. Also had 2 Miller light drafts, which the bartender offered in a frosted mug, which was a nice touch considering the heat. Speaking of the heat, the place has enough fans, ventilation and shade to keep you cool. The large windows make you feel like you are hanging outside no matter where you are sitting. I am a local, I live half a mile from Big Cheezes. The food, if and when you get it, is pretty good and pretty cheap during their happy our special. Which makes people want to go. However, you will notice it is empty inside during happy hour, why is that when their happy hour and food is so good? It's because the people who work there literally ignore you. I came here twice, my first time I came in at 4pm for happy hour and there was about 10 people in there and 4 workers. I got my food at 5:30pm, some tacos, pretty tasty and cheap but waited an hour and a half and no one was in the place. Couple next to me complained that they had been waiting over a two hours for a pizza. My total was $20 and I tipped $4 (20%). Second time I went in at 4pm, sat at the bar and waited with my wife. Bartender kept walking past us, i waved and tried to say hello but he ignored me, like literally looked me in my eyes then kept walking past me without talking. My wife was very upset we were sitting for nearly 30 minutes before we got up and left... went to Bagatelle down the street and the place was PACKED, but we were seated within 5 minutes, ordered within 30 seconds of sitting, and our food came out literally 5 minutes later. 10 minutes from time we walked in to the time we had our food at Bagatelle. Went to Boathouse the next day for happy hour, same thing, walked in and had food and drinks in front of us within 10 minutes. AWESOME American pizzeria-style pizza...tonight we went to the new location on Southard- Pub and Grub at 4:30 pm... not very good seating options for those families going for just dinner. They had no printed pizza menu tonight, and we had to ask whether they had certain toppings or not, what sizes they still had, etc... After ordering, we waited 45 minutes+ for our two pizzas and zippy bread, then had to ask the waitress how much longer it was going to be. We ended up asking for the order to go because of how long we had to wait and having two kiddos (family of 4) getting hungry and all of us getting impatient. This is usually an easy 5-Star place. The burgers here are the best, juiciest and messiest (in a good way) I've ever had! The pork rinds and cheese curds are incredible as well. However, on this occasion, they were out of shrimp but didn't notify our waiter for 30 minutes after he placed our order. My burger was also delayed because of this. There is no excuse for this...ever! Our waiter made the most amazing drinks and was very apologetic, even though it wasn't his fault. Very disorganized. I gave them an address with the room number but according to the driver he had no room number. I also asked for the driver to have change for a 20 to give him a tip. I gave him a 20 and asked for 15 back on a 22 dollar bill (more than 20 percent) he said he only had 14. When I counted it it was only 11!!! Scamming me of another 4 dollars.
