We love Dr Schwartz and always request him, although we've also had good experiences with Dr Wade and Dr Neate. There is one Dr we prefer not to go to. Most of the staff including techs, veterinary assistants, and receptionists are good. The place is clean and we are happy with their services. The only bad things are: There is no over-night monitoring so sometimes you have to take your pet to the emergency clinic (a clinic which I do not particularly care for). The prices are high...I don't mind paying a bit more for peace of mind, but they can almost never give a good quote and of course payment is due at the time of service so make sure you have extra $ saved. Granted, we have 3 dogs, so vaccines, physicals, routine blood work, heart worm and flea preventative, all adds up, but I swear I have never had less than a $500 bill. read more

This vet hospital is terrible I sat in a freezing exam room with my parrot for over 2 hours!! I brought her in for a wing and nail clip, was told by the avian, so called, vet they would have to take her in back for an exam and I could not be present. I told her she did not need an exam! I've owned her for 26 years! She's never been sick ! They are a money grabbing unprofessional hospital. read more

Big Creek Veterinary Hospital Do not take your pets here. This "hospital" left our cat in critical condition after a misdiagnosis of an auto immune disease when she actually had a blood parasite. They gave her medication to suppress her immune system while the parasite took over. Now she is looking at needing a possible blood transfusion because of their negligence and the medical director LAUREN WADE refuses to take responsibility. I will be calling them out on social media in attempt to get answers. If you live in the Concord area, take your animals to Trinity Vet Hospital. They are a very compassionate group and have a true love for animals and their owners. If it wasn't for them our cat would be dead. Been going to Big Creek Veterinary for 15 years! Love it! Dr. Weidencraft is an excellent vet! He cares about the animals, as well as the people. Even though he attends to ranchers livestock, he also makes time to help people with their pets. I have to call in regularly with livestock issues, and I am never billed for the call. When you think of all the different physiologies of all the animals and all the different kinds of animals. They are a huge blessing to the community! read more

Our experience here resulted in medical negligence and the critical decline of our healthy 5 year old cat. We brought her in for facial swelling and lethargy. She was diagnosed with anemia (cause supposedly unknown) and we were given immune suppressing drugs. Subsequent bloodwork follow-ups showed a continue decline in RBCs and another immune suppressant was given, which resulted in a rapid decline. Our sweet girl was dying and they couldn't give me a clear answer as to why this was happening. I took her to another hospital where a simple blood draw and quick inspection under a microscope showed a parasite attacking her red blood cells. She needed antibiotics. Instead, Big Creek shut down her immune system so the parasite became aggressive enough to kill off almost all red blood cells. When this was brought to the attention of the medical director, Lauren Wade, to ask why further investigation into her decline wasn't done - or why they never took her THREE blood draws and put them under a microscope - we were met with condescension, a lack of empathy, zero apology or acknowledgement of any misconduct on their part. We were told they have passed it on to their liability insurance and that it's "out of their hands". They basically charged me almost a thousand dollars to kill my pet and a refund of any kind was refused. My husband and me along with our kids are completely devastated that we may lose our sweet orange kitty. For a routine well visit, 81. we were charged for an exam/well visit plus preventative care screen, 173.00, plus all the vaccinations and bloodwork. Lately, the only thing they seem to care about is money and in doing so they've lost my business. It's really disappointing because I was so happy when I found them. Big Creek used to be so nice. They had vets that cared about your animals. Now they care more about the ambulance or how their lobby smells. Candles burning that you can smell before you walk in the door. Their solution to people who can't come inside because of medical issues like asthma or allergies is too sit in your vehicle while they take your animal away. And call you on phone. I personally don't want my animal going where I can't see how they treat my pet. They are my kids. You wouldn't send a baby into the doctor and sit outside. Also their prices are now way out of line. Office visit $100. You can't get out of their office under $300. My bill was $507. Shot, OV, x-ray and blood work. In the past it would have been $300. read more

I want to get the word out there . I just want to let people know never take your animals to big creek vets in chardon . We had to put our lil dog down cause they didn't know what they were doing . So for our animal had to suffer for two weeks cause they were misdiagnosed us in the wrong direction. How did we know this , because we went got a second opinion. The other vet we seen he said he was very disappointed in them they did not catch this it was all in the blood work . Our little dog had stage 4 liver failure, had bleeding in his stomach, his pancreas was so big and there was much more ! We understand that if we caught it on day one there was nothing we can do cause it was moving so fast for his little body . The point is we made him suffer and force feed him for two weeks because of big creek all they did is misdiagnose us and took our money and say things will be ok . I love all three of my dogs very much ! I would hate to see other ppl go there and not get the help they really need. I don't want to see anyone go throw what we did . I just want to get the word out there and spread it . I know I can't get my money back or bring our lil dog back but if it helps other people out there not to go and get the right help they need I will do so . I am extremely disappointed as I was trying to transfer my two pets care to a clinic closer to my home only to be completely dis-informed from the first call to schedule one of my pet's annual follow up and vaccination. When I inquired about my other car needing dental cleaning they told me to talk to the doctor when I bring in the other cat. What a mess!! Apparently they have a 30 day blood work policy so the 30 days expired and they wanted me to do the blood work all over again. Anyone knows, blood work is not cheap and to have to do it twice on top of an expensive dental cleaning surgery. Staff should have told me this when I initially called. It took over 30 days to get a checkup appointment so how am I suppose to schedule blood work within 30 days? When I checked in the staff member kept mixing up the cat's medical history with the other one. I had to inform her twice the medical history of each cat and yet she was disgusted in not figuring it out from the medical notes from the other clinic. Dr. LoParo had no clue about the medicines Big Creek administers/sells. She told me I can get a chewable treat type for his joint issues, at check out I get capsules. Then she said I could get at their online store. Staff looked and they don't carry it at all. Really? I asked for a nail trim which they did not due and I was reminded after I brought him to the car. I went inside to tell them they did not do his nail trim so we brought him in to get that done. The staff said I never asked for a nail trim and they didn't charge me for it. BIG FAT LIE!! I asked when he was in the exam room and they said okay. I also told her I expected to pay for it. One thing led to another and needless to say I told them I would not be back. I received a "you are fired" letter for violating their "rudeness" policy. After reading a copy of the exam/medical notes, they completely lied and I find this extremely unprofessional and against medical ethics. Staff and Dr. LaParo cannot do their jobs competently and I wonder how many other patients notes they have lied on. In the medical notes it stated I was "Extremely rude about everything". Define extremely and everything. I talked and petted a dog when I left the exam room, I waited patiently to check out, I held the door open for a couple with three cat carriers, yet I was "extremely rude about everything." Hmmm. They need to have a staff meeting and get informed about their services and products. Extremely disappointed and they way the world is changing, the last thing I want do keep dealing with is incompetent uniformed rude individuals. read more

This office has changed. It's been bought out by a corporation and all the vets I love have left rather than work there. They care nothing about your pet. You have to use THEIR supply company for prescriptions or they make your life difficult and that company takes 7-10 days to get things to you. Chewy takes 2. I have been in tears multiple times this past year dealing with these doctors over meds and prescription food that keep my dog from getting deathly sick. Folks, this is no longer Dr Perceval's clinic. This clinic now belongs to Encore Vet Group (https://encorevet.com/). I won't bore you with the details but I had been going to Big Creek over the years as they cared for my 2 dogs & 1 cat. The cat was the lone survivor after all these years and I laid her to rest about 2 weeks ago. This isn't about my emotions about losing my baby girl, this is about all of us pet owners. First, I noticed a big turn over in staff. Coupled with new emails I was getting about ordering meds and food on line. Then I saw so many new vets (which I'm sure are fine, capable, compassionate people as are the other staff. My review isn't about the personnel). Big Creek is a COMPANY now. You cannot afford these prices, I am here to warn you. I am not getting another dog. I am not getting another cat. They are after your wallet and you're paying based off your emotions. I cannot recommend this company to anyone. I'm sad to see this is not a hometown clinic where your pet will be cared for like your family member. This is a place that sure, will treat your animal, but is raiding your pockets. Don't believe me? Listen to the prices of those checking out while you're waiting to be seen. I called Big Creek Veterinary Hospital to get a pricing quote for an appointment, and possibly make an appointment for my dog because my regular vet was booked up the rest of the week.. I have been recommended this place by friends and family but when I called the girl Ari (spelling) was extremely rude and snappy with me from the beginning of our conversation. Very unprofessional and not personable whatsoever. She even hung up without saying goodbye. I now for sure will not be bringing my business there. I would have booked the appointment if I talked to someone nicer. I work in the salon industry and I know that the front desk staff has a huge impact on the business and needs to be friendly, helpful and engage and help the customer with whatever questions or concerns they may have. read more

I will start by saying that We had an amazing veterinarian from big creek vet hospital for several years. Dr. Courtney Noonan. She went above and beyond and continues to do so for anything we needed. Literally anything. She called us out of office hours, called specialists on our behalf, got opinions from her colleagues to make sure she wasn't missing clues that could heal our pets. She is more than we could ever ask for and deserves the utmost praise and recognition for her soaring veterinary and emotional class. We cannot thank you enough for that, Dr. Noonan. Every vet tech and receptionist we encountered gave us just as much as they could as well and deserve 5/5 stars. But. On Saturday January 5th, 2019 We woke to find that our sick Sydney was at her worst and at this point was letting us know it was time for her to go home, across the rainbow bridge. 1034 I called big creek to set up a euthanasia. It was sudden notice and they offered to do it at the clinic. I asked the girl on the phone what time and they said as soon as possible. I said of course since she was suffering. 1140 we got to big creek. They were preparing to close for the day and cleaning etc. The receptionist was confused that we were coming in. The vet tech grabbed our chart from her and rushed over to me, sad to hear of our news but awaiting our arrival. Sydney and my mom came in the side to avoid the wet floors and stress/anxiety. We went into the back room and I laid our fuzzy green blanket out and had syd lay on it. Percival and the tech come into the room. We unfortunately know the drill. Injection for sedation, iv access, medication to put to sleep.. He wanted her up on the table. She was 70 lbs and in pain with a massive liver. we told him no, he would do this on the floor with us. He said well the tech is going to have to hold her. Fine. She held syd in case she would react and snap at us during the sedation injection. We sat down with her, my mom, grace, and I.. They gave the sedation time to set in while pacing back and forth, which we could clearly see, arms crossed staring into the room at through frosted glass waiting for her to relax. When they came back into the room and we were on the floor, they again wanted her on the table. We again said no. Percival insisted that if he couldn't get iv access r/t dehydration etc that they would be forced to put her on the table. No. We refused and made him get the access from the floor like it wasn't his first time. I stepped away and my mother stayed on the floor next to syd. As I sat across the room giving him the precious space he insisted on and trying to comfort my daughter, the good doctor promptly delivered the medication without warning or asking for any last good byes or any sweet words from himself to my sweet companion of almost 11 years. It wasn't an iv being put in, it was just the medication immediately being delivered. My heart broke and I dropped to my knees trying to get closer to her from her hind end when he said "yep her heart has stopped,she is gone." I didn't get to say good bye how I wanted, with her head in my lap or whisper into her ear as she slipped soundly into heaven with her sisters and brother dog and cats. I moved then to her face kneeling and kissing her as I shut her sweet eyes through my shock and horror. I glanced up through the tears that were welling up and dr. Percival was there squatting besides me. His immediate and direct words were "OK well you guys can go out to the waiting room now and we will bring her out to the car." I was in disbelief and replied, "uhm were going to need a few minutes here thank you ". Staring at me and then looking down at his watch and looking back up he said "well we were actually supposed to be out of here at noon sooo..." I was shocked and infuriated and my irritated energy turned to rage. I looked him in the eye and reminded the veterinarian, the founder of big creek, the pet owner, Dr. Joel Percival that we had just lost our beloved dog of over ten years and that we would be taking a minute. He opened his mouth to say something and just blinked, stood up, and left. We were left in that room, my daughter and mother now sobbing, for not even five minutes. Unnaturally now, We went quickly through the motions and as planned from the start, packed our things- eager to get her out of there- and knocked on the door we were still being watched from, for them to bring her to the car. He said they would be back with a body bag....We had blankets and wanted to get our angel the hell out of there and told them to forget their bag. His last and only other words were "drive safe" as they placed her into the back of the car, pointed out which end was her head and went back inside. read more

I feel so grateful that my family recommended Dr. Shwartz to me. My dog had an injured paw that never really healed since I adopted her 1.5 years go. I had taken her to many different vets and in California and across the country as I was traveling and none were as competent and kind as Dr. Shwartz. It's clear that he strives to do the most caring and thorough work that he can do. The facility is clean and nice, the desk staff is efficient and friendly. I have been using Big Creek for years and I am actually sad to write this review. I have an 8 month old Cockapoo that is currently treated by another vet as well because we live in 2 states. I brought Coco in at 6 months to get spayed and was recommended to get blood work done but not required. I opted for the blood work and luckily I got it because her liver enzymes were elevated. We put off the surgery and did a bile acids test which also came back elevated. Once the results were received I was referred to a specialist because they thought she could have some type of shunt. I asked if they could be elevated due to her having been on antibiotics for 6 weeks and was told it was not likely to go see the specialist. I also asked if anything that I was feeding her could have caused it and was again told no, to take her to a specialist. I then took her to my other vet for a second opinion. I was told that yes the antibiotics could have caused the elevation as that the high protein freeze dried liver treats could have caused it as well. I stopped the liver treats, and switched to a high carb low protein treat and we put her on liver supplement. A month later her enzymes were back to normal. NO SPECIALIST NEEDED. The lack of knowledge by the vet at Big Creek is sad. Then today I went in to weigh coco as she takes Simparica Trio which is writing based and she is right between the weights. I was FORCED to buy a 6 pack of pills for the 5.6-11lb and when I questioned it they said it's their policy to only give 6 count packages. When I asked what was I supposed to do once she weighs more than 11lbs they said just give her 2. So my 6 month supply that was $186 has just possibly turned into a 4 month supply. We changed our vets because we moved and we were pleasantly surprised at this amazing facility. The place is very clean inside and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. The doctors are all great and my dogs seem to be fine with all of them. There prices are better then are last vet but still up there which is why I gave this vet four stars instead of five. Took my two dogs in the clinic yesterday. I realized shortly after that I was overcharged and called today to discuss. It seems I paid for services that I expressed that I did not want to receive. I, in turn, did not receive the services but was charged anyways. Also, if you want the veterans discount make sure you receive it as I had to mention it to twice to two different people working there. I think they should provide you an itemized invoice before requesting your payment. I would appreciate knowing what I am paying for. read more

I took my 9 year old Jack Russell Terrier in on Wednesday, August 17th for a teeth cleaning. I asked that while he was under anesthesia, if removing a small, moveable bump he had on his head for 7 plus years and two skin tags would be advisable. Dr. Aaron K. Horch said that would be "no big deal", and I didn't think anymore about it. I received a phone call at 12:28 as an update from Dr. Horch, explaining that everything had gone smoothly, that no teeth needed to be extracted, and that I could pick my dog up after 4 pm. At 4, I showed up and was presented with a bill for $700.00, twice the amount I was quoted for a teeth cleaning and anesthesia for my dog. I questioned the high amount and was told that the soft tissue removals were the reason, and maybe because 2 of his teeth fell out during the procedure. I explained that Dr. Horch had not mentioned that in my update phone call, which was met with a blank stare. I paid in full. Then the receptionist carried my dog from the back out to me. I was in shock. My dog had a 3 inch incision on his head with 11 sutures and dried blood on the corner closest to his eye. I was sent home: A. Shocked at the amount of money I had just spent. B. In tears, because of the size of the incision on my dogs head. (On a side note, I work in surgery, and the incision was double the size it needed to be.) C. Without a cone to prevent him from scratching said stitches. My fiancé had to drive back to the vet to get the cone, which they wanted to charge him for. The next day I called to speak with Dr. Horch. While I explained how I felt about the situation, his multiple failures in communication, his reply was "o.k, sorry". Even when I questioned the two extracted teeth he failed to mention in the update he gave me, his only reply was "They were loose, and kinda just fell out. Sorry if I forgot to tell you"... While my dogs teeth are, in fact, clean, I had to call off two days of work to stay home and watch over him. Believe me, I would do anything for my dog. Big Creek Vet, on a whole, is a fine place to take your pet. My problem lies with Dr. Horch and his nonexistent communication skills. Since my dog can't talk, communication between myself and the vet is crucial. I will not be dealing with Dr. Horch in the future. read more
