Helped cater a wedding and we rented out all the silverware, napkins, chaffing pans, and dishes. For 130 people, think it came up to around $900. I love how they make it easy for you to just turn them in dirty without having to wash them. Unfortunately most weddings are on Saturdays so you have to lug around the dirty, smelly stuff until Monday which is not too fun. Wish there was an easier way...otherwise, great company!! read more

Called this morning to get a quote and the young lady that answered the phone was very dry and not helpful at all. Her attitude lacks customer services skills. I felt like I was bothering her. After ordering several things, I ask do they carry bars, she stated "yes alot. You can look at them online." This was after she continued to ask me "what else," as if she was rushing me. I asked about the high boy tables and she stated one price them. When I told her the quantity I need, she said a totally different price which was double the price originally quoted. Learn some customer service skills before you run everyone off and end up jobless. Spoke with the woman in accounting who sounds to be the owner, from the moment she got on the phone she was rude and abrasive. I don't know how you speak to people like that and stay in business. Someone on her staff gave me false information regarding the rental process, instead of having a mature discussion to resolve the issue, she was immediately nasty. I needed plates for dinner party of 15 at the very last minute and when I say very last minute that's what I mean. My dinner party was that evening at 7:30 and I was at their store at 2:00 getting plates cups and gold flatware and I was out at 2:30 with my full order. The customer service was outstanding and my kids loves the candy buffet! Also the prices for what I needed was right on time I would of spent more get the fake stuff from party city. I recently used Big D Party & Event Rentals and was unaware of the initial review of the company. I had a special event that required a lot of juggling of information from the location to the actual items being rented. That meant a lot of phone calls changing items, times and locations. Once I was in the their system they were able to pull up my contract number and no matter who I dealt with they could review the notes on file and pick up where it last left off. Every representative was helpful and accommodating. I did review the project each time with each rep, but that was more for my benefit than the their need to do so. In the end when it came time to put the 50% down and go over final details I decided it was best to go into their office in Addison. I've been to other places in town and though others may 'put on a show' I appreciated their getting down to business office environment. It was nice, the people were welcoming, and I felt at ease especially given my particular rental needs and all the changes. I was greeted by the owner who happened to be passing by the front desk. Surprisingly, He took it upon himself to ask how he could help. I gave him the contract number, he briefed himself on the job, and asked what brought me in that day. I wrapped the deal up and was impressed by the owners personal interest in making sure my event went off with out a hiccup. He took great pride in his company and was happy to have me as a customer. I complimented him on his team, and he said he was proud of them and glad they helped me out so much. Given that miscommunications can always happen, I can say in this instance, they did not. Maybe there was training involved, maybe the other review was accounted for and changes were made. Ideally maybe that's what these reviews can do, they can create a better experience for others. It did in my case. The event turned out great, I had a great experience, and I look forward to renting from them again for two more events coming up. read more

Big D provided two tents, tables, chairs, plates, flatware, glasses, and more for our wedding. They were always very easy to work with in the process of getting quotes. Anytime I sent revisions (usually in the evening) they always sent a revised quote back to me early the next morning. One of the reasons I chose Big D over other companies is that I really wanted a pole tent. I did a lot of research about pole tents vs. frame tents. Some tent companies out there (especially the ones that cater toward the wedding world) don't offer pole tents because, they say, the center pole gets in the way. For me, I think the center pole and seeing the interior tent structure are what make being in the tent very cool. The only hiccup was that the inside of the tent ceiling was a bit dirtier than I expected. I called and they didn't hesitate to send a crew out to clean it the next day. The tents ended up going up on a Thursday, being cleaned on Friday, and the wedding was Saturday. They were able to clean the tent without spraying water everywhere. There was no mess. Poor customer service and lack of communication. I was less than a week before my event when they dropped off the face of the earth. No longer emailing and I even tried calling and leaving a message for the person I had been working with--not sure if SHE was the problem or the whole company. True customer service that deserves additional stars. ***original review*** I originally wanted to rent a 72" square table, but was told that it was not available, so I settled for the round. The rental process was easy and a 50% deposit was required at reservation with remaining due at pick-up. The table cloth costs more than the table rental. Saturday pickup was offered, which is convenient. The table was in terrible shape and simply filthy. If I did not know any better, I would have thought someone used the table as a dance floor since it was covered with dirt that three rounds of Lysol wipes could not clean completely. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. I ordered a stage from Big D a few days before our organization's big art auction benefitting adults with special needs. The coordinator was nice enough on the phone, but got my email wrong to send the quote to. After I called back, she resent it to the correct address. After reviewing the quote, I decided to go ahead and place my order, so I called back and the girl took my credit card information and confirmed with me the time and place I would like the delivery. So far, so good. After emailing the next day to confirm a second time when I could expect the delivery drivers (complete with response back)- I was satisfied that there wasn't anything else on my end that I needed to do. The day of our event came, and we waited for the delivery guys to show up. Our event began at 7, and I started to worry when 6pm rolled around and no stage had been delivered. I called Big D, and the coordinator who answered acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. She was defensive, and had a "tough shit, not my problem" attitude. She kept asking for the name of the person who took my order- like I would be able to remember that off the top of my head while I'm onsite and away from my computer. I kept asking if they really intended NOT to honor their commitment, and to her credit, she did seem to go talk to someone. But her attitude when she got back was COMPLETELY unacceptable. She said that they had no record of my order (despite my having given my card number to someone over the phone AND the confirmation emails), insinuated that I was making it up, and basically told me that they had no idea what I was talking about and that I was out of luck. Really unprofessional and it was not what I needed in addition to all the normal stress that comes with event planning. read more
