We were hungry and looking for some good food on the way home from Penn State. I did a quick search, and we came across Big Daddy's. There's really not much going on in Lewistown, and it took some time to get to Big Daddy's. When we walked in, people were seated at the bar, and we let the friendly bartender know we were ordering take out. We waited outside (there weren't any places to sit and not much shade in the hot sun). We ordered a Big Daddy's roast beef with chips and Sam's Stingy Chicken Sandwich with a side salad. It took a while for our food. The chicken sandwich was difficult to eat because the stingy honey sauce was a sticky mess. The side salad with poppy seed dressing was good. The roast beef sandwich, which was supposed to come with chips but didn't, came with fries instead. The fries were soggy, greasy, and flavorless. However, the cooper cheese on the roast beef was the star of the show. Quite sadly, we're still on the lookout for a decent place to get take out on the way home from PSU. Any suggestions? read more

Haven't been there in a while but about a year ago my family and I went there pretty good food no real complaints went on karaoke night and had a blast not sure if they still do that. They don't seem great at answering the phone which is why it's a 4 stars also could work on the bathrooms more I know it's a bar but still. Service was pretty good as well they were pretty quick with it. Would love to bring the kids sometime does anyone know if they alow teens in there before a certain hour my daughter is 19 she would be with me just don't know it was all adults when we went but I loved it you never knwo read more

If you're in a pinch, this place really isn't that bad. So I have gone here twice now and it seems they are always really tight on service. I believe they are training someone new in the back in the kitchen which may delay your food. Also having just one waitress doesn't help things either - but alas, despite how long it took us to get our food the first time (50 min) to the second time (20 min) that's a pretty big improvement. Apparently during their lunch hour for the local roofing company there, they are quick? Well...haven't seen it yet but 20 min is still better than 50 and starving. At that point, I wished our waitress offered us bread or something so we wouldn't wilt away the first time. The waitresses are nice. Parking is really tight there. They have 6 packs for sale and depending the sizes of the bottles they can't always take those and sell them for you to drink in the restaurant - make sure to ask. I have only gotten the burgers here and they come with an option of fresh cut fries or a salad. I got the breakfast burger there which is basically the topics of an egg, grilled onions on a patty and have gotten a regular cheeseburger. Both tasted really good - I really liked the breakfast burger. However one thing is ...they asked how I wanted my burger - which is good (I ask for medium rare), but it always comes it out well done. So temper your expectations there too. read more

Nick was GREAT! The food and drink recommendations were spot-on. We came in on a Sunday at lunch and some wanted lunch, some wanted breakfast. No problem. Stopped by for the first time since we were in the area and come to find out that they only serve beer products, no liquor. That's was ok since I was in the mood for a beer anyway. We did order food and I got the 1/2 lb Bacon, Egg, Burger, I added the cheese, lettuce, tomato to it too. I did ask for it to be cooked medium and it came out with no pink but it was not over cooked either. The egg on it made the burger creamy since I didn't get mayo on it. It was very good and very filling and the prices were good. My wife got the fish sandwich, which was cut in half and pretty big. I had a bite of it and it was good also. The overall experience was very good and we'll be back when in the area. Worth checking out. read more

Got taken here once with another out-of-towner. I remember him and me sitting across the table from each other, both reading the menu, both turning it over and scowling that the backside was blank. Run-of-the-mill Lewistown pub food. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and salads. As I recall they don't come with sides. Portions were unremarkable, prices were fair. Quality was standard, but I don't see anything here worth recommending. The usual Central PA beers on tap, but I recall some better beers available by the bottle as well. The atmosphere itself was very strange - sort of like a bar crossed with a very brightly lit 50's diner. "No cursing" sign behind the register. Very generic (Walmart-purchased?) decor. No personality. Maybe they're going for a children-friendly bar? I don't get it. read more

We stopped in at BDGC for the first time last evening and were pleasantly surprised with the overall atmosphere and the food. The dinning/bar area is very clean and well kept. Yes, some of the seats are a bit worn, but it it was nice to eat in a restaurant/bar that did NOT smell of old smoke! This impressed us. The service was prompt and everyone very friendly even though it was apparent we were not regulars. Now to the food! I had the garden cheesesteak, which was incredible! One of the best cheese steaks I've had in a very long time. My wife had the cheeseberger sliders, which were very tastey and quite filling. The french fries are fresh cut and cooked perfectly! We were very impressed and plan to try out their other offerings and their breakfast in the near future! read more

Hey I wanted to make sure I left a review for these guys because since the new owners took over (and didn't change the name) it's been a WORLD of difference. I wouldn't have EVER gone in this place again under the old owners, they were lazy etc. It's a lot lot cleaner than it was, it's not a dingy divey locals only place anymore. We went w a group and sat at several tables pushed together and we were well attended, drinks were filled promptly, food was excellent for this type of thing. It's NOT QUITE JP's or Quaker Steak like other bar n grills are but I'm not sure it's intending to be. Everyone had a great time and I sincerely think it'd be ok to take kids into these days. (NOOOOOOO WAY with previous owners but yeah probably if you would to like a fridays or whatever then yeah) it was still a little darker than I probably would have liked for a group thing, I think maybe if it got a little busier they would have wanted more help there and location kinda sucks (4th st is a nightmare). All in all I had a good time and would go back w a group again, I'd probably order takeout wings or something idk if I'd go there doing my own thing or even a date night type of thing but again I don't think that's what they're trying to be. Food is good. Salads are huge. Service is horrible. Wait time is also bad; you can find a seat as soon as you walk in but be prepared to wait at least an hour regardless of what you order, even for salads. read more

A number of years ago, I remember this building as a six pack in walking distance of my apartment. They sold cold beer and maybe some subs or sandwiches. It was in this building that I bought my first legal six pack as a 21 year old. Over the years, this building has carried many names. Its life has lived in many forms. It has been everything from a dive bar to a biker hangout. Each one of those lives were fairly short as the location, parking, management, and form killed it. I believe most people thought this place would stay vacant after its last business as a dive bar. But a little under a year ago, this place got some new signage that read "Big Daddy's Grill N Chill". Personally, after seeing that name and the painting of Foghorn Leghorn on the outside wall, I thought..... meeehhhh. Another soon to be failure. I never had much faith in new restaurants in the Lewistown area. I worked in State College at the time. State College is like a food Mecca compared to Lewistown. State College has a small variety of ethnic food and local favorites along with your typical Italian American and chain spots. When you work in that town, you get a good sampling of this. So, in September of 2011, this was one of the many perks I left behind when I took a job in my home town. As I started working at my new job, one of my coworkers started talking up this Big Daddy's. I still wasn't convinced as I figured it was just another dive. I took advice in the past about a bar that had "good food". Upon walking in that local bar and ordering food, I felt like a Martian visiting Earth for the first time. It seems I wasn't a softball player or a swinger so it really wasn't my scene. Advice about bars are not exactly my thing because of that experience. After a few weeks of prodding about this place, I got past the name and the type of establishment and decided to try it. I am glad I did. This is the first place that will make that location work even with bad parking. In fact, the type of place it is may help with that location. Their food really lends itself to the near industrial park and fishing crowd. So after that story, I hope you stuck around for that actual review. There is an outdoor patio on the side of the restaurant but I imagine it isn't fun when there is a hatch coming off the river. They occasionally have bands or a DJ on the weekends and they have daily specials. The place is small which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. The menu is what I consider "just right". They do certain things well and that is what they sell. The food is what I would call American Pub food. There isn't much in the way of health food, here. In fact, the one bit of health food they do have are salads. But, they aren't your traditional healthy salads. The appetizers are your standard. You get the mozzarella sticks, the onion rings, homemade fries, breaded cauliflower, poppers, breaded mushrooms, and so on. The unusual thing that is missing amongst many local menus are the corn fritters. I am told they are solid as corn fritters go. They also have something called a pizza log. I am not sure what that is but plan on trying it eventually. They also have a sampler for the indecisive. The salads are not your typical healthy bunch. They all are meals in and of themselves. These are not side salads. The Big Daddy's salad is full of the prerequisite lettuce, tomato, onion, and olives. On top of that is a large portion of ham, cheese, potato sticks, and pepperoni. The taco salad is full of the prerequisites, taco meat, salsa, and sour cream all in a large baked taco shell. The grilled chicken salad is also a well packed delight. The wings are one of Big Daddy's true higher points. Locals will love the Hartley's BBQ and sour cream & onion style dry wings. They also have Old Bay wings. The honey BBQ and mild sauced wings are really good with just the right tastes at the right time. The kids menu has some favorite kiddie comfort foods. They can get sliders, a hot dog, chicken tenders, or popcorn chicken. Each meal comes with a juice box, an ample supply of homemade fries, and a bag of fruit snacks. The best part is that the meals are only $2.99. My kids love Big Dady's night. The sandwiches are really nothing special and are the low point of the menu. It is your normal boring pub sandwich menu. There really aren't any regional, local or house specials here. I tried a pizza burger one week and wasn't impressed. The subs outdo the sandwich menu. The Philly cheesesteak is absolutely loaded with the normal stuff. The baked Italian is really good. The sauce has that balance too often missed in most pubs. There is a good mix of the typical meats in an Italian. The baked regular and hamburger subs are solid. I give Big Daddy's 4 stars. It's a pub but the best one in town for my money. The negatives are parking, location, and lack of regional or house specialties outside of salads. I really like this place. read more

I went on wing night, and got the Garlic Suicide wings for 80 cents a pop. The sauce is home made. They were incredible, as were the fries, which were hand cut, not frozen. 8 wings, fries and 2 bud lights for $12 and change. Would definitely recommend if you're ever in the area. read more

The first time we ordered take out (which came highly recommended) I arrived at the 20 minute mark as my order taker recommended. And waited another HOUR for my food. Waitress claiming TWICE that my order had been lost. Meanwhile, Big Daddy himself just sat in the corner watching my ordeal and not saying a word. No apology to me and nothing to his employees. That was shortly after Big D's opened. I swore to my wife that I would never go back. A year later we started to hear great things about Big D's wings and decided to give Big D's another chance. We have tried take-out wings twice in the last month Both time we have been shorted one wing, apparently a dozen means 11 at Big D's. Wings were small, and very poor quality. My boyfriend, my mother, my friend, her daughter and myself were at Big Daddys on St. Patricks Day to celebrate my sons 6th birthday. My boyfriend moved his car in the parking lot and accidently hit another car he found the owner apologized profusely and the owner was cool as no real damage was done. Apparently someone had seen my boyfriend hit the gentlemans vehicle and told the manager of the restaurant she assumed my boyfriend was drunk and she kicked my boyfriend out of the restaurant. He had one drink he was far from intoxicated. Yes my boyfriend got an attitude with her but wouldn't you if you were accused of being drunk and you weren't. Shouldn't she be trained to defuse a situation considering she may encounter people that are really drunk during her shifts. Her actions completely ruined my evening not to mention two young children were present to witness this ordeal. I don't know if I will ever be back to Big Daddys which sucks because I love the food there. I feel because my boyfriend is heavily tattooed she sterotyped him as being a "druggie" and a "drunk" and that is not him at all. Never judge a book by its cover you might be surprised by what you might discover. I sincerely hope I never have to deal with that manager waitress whatever she claims to be again. read more
