Hiring Paul as our DJ was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. From the very beginning, Paul was incredibly responsive to our emails (super important during wedding planning) and very knowledgeable and helpful. He answered our many questions during the initial phone meeting and it was clear from the first time we talked to him that he would be a great DJ. Fast forward to the wedding month and we met with Paul for our final consultation. He was so detailed and helpful, and gave us great suggestions for the timeline and song selections. We left that meeting feeling so confident in our DJ choice, which was a great stress relief. On the wedding day, Paul was simply amazing. He MC'd the entire reception, and he was so upbeat and fun. Each wedding event went so smoothly with his help. We did a traditional Korean ceremony after dinner, and he spoke the English version of the script. He kept it fun and light hearted, and was a total pro. For the music, my husband and I didn't make it easy for him - we have very different taste in music. He pointed us to Woody, who was just perfect for our wedding. We had many specific song requests, both for the ceremony and the reception, and he nailed em all. Big Fun, especially Woody, totally made our wedding day! They were incredibly quick to respond and up front about their pricing and various add-ons, which is so refreshing when you're planning a wedding since everyone else seems to be so coy about revealing their actual prices. During the planning process, Woody was an absolute life-saver - when we met with him (via Skype because we were planning from LA), he helped us make a very concrete timeline for the entire reception. He also made suggestions for songs and some logistical details that were incredibly helpful, on top of just being super personable and funny! On the day of, he acted as the MC when needed and kept us on schedule throughout the reception, which allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves knowing that he would direct the guests as needed. He also dealt with a minor power outage right when the dancing started - he had the issue fixed within what seemed like about a minute. And of course, his DJ skills for keeping everyone on the dance floor were amazing! We had a mix of ages and backgrounds, but I saw every single person out on the dance floor at least once during the night, and I totally credit Woody for knowing his crowd that well. This review will be long but here's the whole story of how fantastic this company is... We booked Big Fun DJ after rave recommendations from my wedding planner. We picked a DJ who was bilingual in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Then we continued conversations over email with Henry Kim on equipment power specs since our venue was outdoors and we were running generators. Henry always responded promptly with lots of details which impressed us. Abut a month prior to the wedding I contacted the DJ to start the planning process. Henry then called me suggesting to replace this particular DJ because of some performance issues. He wanted to make sure that our wedding wasn't affected. He suggested a replacement DJ, and since this replacement guy doesn't speak Chinese, he also hired a Mandarin speaking Emcee out of his own pocket. Our replacement DJ was Paul Burchfield and he was simply the best. We enjoyed meeting him in person where he took copious notes and thought of all the details possible. He was also super quick on emails for any questions or song suggestions. Paul also edited a few of our dance songs so that they were of the appropriate lengths. I was super thrilled with his attention to details and his prompt responses. The wedding day was perfect. Paul and his Chinese emcee, Jason, did a great job informing everyone what comes next, and Paul played the best music to keep the dance floor occupied the whole time. The music was so good that it got my parents and my uncles dancing. I have never seen them dance before in my life!!! I myself could not leave the dance floor. My 8-year-old niece kept telling me that she loves all the music that was being played. I also received lots of compliments from other guests at the wedding. Everyone had a blast. This review is for Paul, who was our DJ for our wedding this past Sunday. We LOVED Paul. As a DJ, he definitely knows what he is doing with music and such. What we think sets him apart, was his professionalism and how smart he is! So very impressed!!!!!!!! Our first meeting outside of a Starbucks - We had a destination wedding so we didn't really know the area well. Paul came to meet us!! we didn't even need to use Google map to find him! Correspondance prior to the wedding - If you are an engineer like us, you would appreciate what he does. He gives you a list of what you talked about, what still needs to be done, and he just takes care of everything. We were so stressed with the details, and he was there every step of the way to help us out. The day of the wedding - I have too many examples of how great he is. He showed up way ahead of time. I mean, real early. He set everything up and was ready to go before everyone else. Our ceremony was not quite what we planned... our family decided to give us a flower girl last minute. Paul gave the kid "flower-girl 101". At the end of the ceremony, our family decided it was a good time to give us gifts instead of letting us walk out. It was a bit awkward, but Paul handled the music beautifully. Throughout the night, he was not just a DJ. He was almost my coordinator! He helped us release tables for the buffet... he chased people down that were supposed to give toasts... He even had to come up with 2 more Persian knife dance songs... DJ Stefano did an AMAZING job at our wedding in March! When we first contacted BIG FUN, we were already in contact with a couple other DJ companies that our venue recommended, but one of the venues that we had originally considered had highly recommended BIG FUN, so we contacted them just to see what other options we had. From the first e-mail with Paul, I could tell that BIG FUN was going to be different from all the other DJ companies we had contacted! They were straightforward about their pricing, gave us a very detailed sample timeline, and even gave us some suggestions and recommendations for our venue! A lot of other DJ companies we spoke to did not provide us with the amount of information that BIG FUN did, even when we asked them! Due to some other events that came up during our wedding planning, we put booking a DJ on hold for a while. Paul continued to check in with us throughout this time and answered all of our questions via e-mail in a timely manner - even random questions we had that were not related to DJ'ing! When we finally got back into the groove of wedding planning, we knew that we had to book BIG FUN! The booking process was so simple and payment isn't due until AFTER the wedding, so it was definitely nice to give our checkbook a little break with all the other vendors we had to pay! We were put in touch with Stefano soon after we booked and met with him about 1 month before the wedding. We went over all our song choices and talked about what we did and did not want played at the wedding. Stefano was so friendly and after our meeting, we felt like we were in great hands! And we were! On the day of the wedding, he set up all the speakers for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and set up the projector for our slideshow as well! We had an issue with our slideshow not playing with his system before the wedding and Stefano worked on it until it worked and it played seamlessly during the reception! He was professional and energetic when MC'ing our reception and did a phenomenal job with the dance portion of our reception! All our guests had a wonderful time dancing and I got multiple compliments on the music selection after the wedding! read more

Henry, one of the co-owners of Big Fun, DJ'd our wedding at The Mountain Winery in May. Henry did more to move our wedding planning forward in one meeting than months on our own. It is amazing how much getting a complete timeline hashed out can go towards the planning process. Henry knew EXACTLY how much we would need for every particular event and transition, from entrance, to first dance, to cake cutting. Music. Why else would you hire a DJ? That song you heard on a mixtape back in '92? BIG FUN has it. That pop song that just got released on the radio? BIG FUN has it. BIG FUN Disc Jockeys are in a class above all. Let's start with - payment AFTER the event (that's a pretty strong guarantee). Our wedding was DJ'd by Woody, and we are sincerely thankful to him for being the best wedding DJ (and by DJ we mean professional, entertainer, coordinator, and helper) that we could have possibly asked for. BIG FUN DJs do it right in the way they put together their team. Anyone can learn to play music, but few DJs know how to bring the full experience (especially for a production like a wedding). From the very first first time my wife and I sat down with Woody we were impressed. He had an agenda, suggestions to our ideas, offered to cut and mix several songs we wanted to use after realizing we didn't have someone to help us with it, without the "but there will be a charge for that", and delivered a typed, detailed time line and mixed/cut songs by the next day (and this man has a different full time job). Over the next 4 weeks we were in constant email communication going over details regarding various activities during our ceremony and reception, and received responses within 12 hours (at most 24). Through the process Woody was more of an adviser rather than just an "okay, sounds good" guy. He suggested what may work better for some of our ideas, came up with fun ideas of his own, and corresponded with me up until 7 hours before game time. Woody's best work showed during the reception and ceremony. He took control during the chaos which was family wedding photos (it was not something we had initially discussed, but he realized the mass confusion and jumped right in), he provided his laptop when mine died during the middle of the slide show, had every possible audio connector on hand, he had extra equipment with him which we ended up renting on the spot as we found out we needed it, and most importantly, our ceremony and reception was a theatrical production and Woody always managed to stay in the background, never taking the spotlight. Last, Woody understandings how the right timing can turn a moment from "nice or that was cool" to "wow, that was an unexpected surprise". He works well with chaos, confusion, and can make last minute audibles without breaking a sweat. Except for the few times I needed to tell Woody about an audible I was calling, I never once thought about him - he just did everything right. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Woody, you are the consummate professional. Even though we had already decided to avoid getting a DJ for our wedding, we saw Henry take care of our friends' wedding with so much finesse that we decided that night to book with him. Quite possibly the best part of our wedding. We had a friend recommend Big Fun to us, and we had Woody assigned to our wedding. When we met with him about a month before the wedding, he helped us schedule out the entire wedding day to the minute, and even helped us figure out details like the order that the wedding party would walk down the aisle, and the song we'd play during the cake cutting. Prior to booking with Big Fun DJ for our wedding we had the pleasure of attending three other weddings where DJs from Big Fun provided their services. As guests, we were super impressed with their work to ensure the ceremony and speeches could be heard and their work to get people on the dance floor. We were even more impressed when working with them on our own wedding. They are super responsive and have a great eye for detail. Our DJ, Woody, made sure he knew how to pronounce all of our wedding party's names, found our special request songs, and worked on our timeline with us. This is a professional organization--I can't believe they have day jobs! We had our wedding 7/17/2010 at the Morgan Hill Community Center. The whole process of working with Big Fun before the wedding was so streamlined (informative and prompt emails, easy access by phone). We chose to work with Woody Miraglia. He was accessible and made us feel confident that he is a professional. He offered numerous helpful suggestions before the wedding and at the same time, he made it a point to find out what WE wanted, and never pressured us. Basically, they are awesome DJ's. They are totally self-sufficient. They brought all of their own equipment. The sound quality was outstanding, well-balanced, and the volume was just right: loud enough to dance in abandonment, but not loud enough to make your ears ring and give you a headache. Their announcements (how to proceed with the buffet, desserts, bus leaving, etc.) were clear, timely, and in a gentle but effective voice. Sound quality of speeches outstanding. The lights they brought created the right atmosphere. Many of our friends and family complimented the music that night. The BIG FUN music list is huge. For dinner we made our own upbeat ethnic lounge mix. Woody took this, mixed and rearranged it better than I could have to make it flow better, and added some similar music from their vast database. For the dancing, we gave a list of things we liked from the BIG FUN list and beyond to Woody. He and the colleague he brought for the evening, Jason Amarante, played exactly the kind of music we envisioned: things that would keep people dancing. Our dance floor was busy for the entire 2.5 hours. They took requests as well. They really were in tune with what was making the crowd happy. read more

Paul was determined to take as much of the stress out of the day for me as he could and his expertise with weddings was hugely helpful (and did help ease my stress level). I cannot recommend Big Fun Djs enough. They were awesome throughout the whole process. We first met Henry at a small wedding fair and both my Mom and I loved their enthusiasm and professionalism, they were kind, welcoming and full of great information. They sent us on our way with some reading material and a great clip disc that really helped us hone what music we wanted to play for our ceremony and our "special" songs (mother/son dance, cake cutting, etc). We did however want to meet in person the DJ that would be working our wedding, this was especially important to my now husband who is a music aficionado, so Henry and the gain gave us and both of our mothers free entry (on their list) into another bridal fair so that we could not only meet the other DJs but enjoy looking around there too. Tony (my husband) met Paul Burchfield and they talked music for awhile and he came away pleased/excited and ready to put down a deposit. To our surprise (and unlike every other wedding vendor we've dealt with) they didn't require a deposit or payment ahead of time, but instead would bill us after the wedding day. This was a huge benefit to us and we paid for our entire wedding ourselves and every little bit helped us get to our special day. They emailed us an agreement and we were set. As the wedding came closer, we set up our final meeting with Paul and brought all of our music selections when we met him (he was also nice enough to meet fairly close to our house, a huge benefit with gas was at it's highest). Paul, Tony and I went through all of our choices and discussed the relative time frame for the whole evening and Paul promised to put together a whole timeline that ended up being the backbone of our day and took a lot of pressure off of our Day of Coordinators. Our wedding was supposed to have two sound systems and some elaborate space changes, but due to a vicious downpour of rain, Paul ran with the punches and made the necessary adjustments without even adding to my stress. I believe that it was all worked out between Paul and our DOC and it was so nice for me not to have to worry about the adjustments, but just to know that they would handle it. During our ceremony the music cues were all perfect, as the ceremony was late because of the rain Paul seamlessly looped our preceremony music and no one even knew. During the changeover between the ceremony and the reception Paul quickly moved his system and set up all of the lights quickly (I forgot the lights... they were great and definitely nice that they're included in the cost rather than added on top of). The ceremony music was great, perfectly coordinated and Paul was so great to work with any special requests and was a wonderful MC for the evening. We greatly greatly enjoyed working with him and would in a heartbeat use them again. After the wedding was over we fully anticipated to pay the original cost of the DJ, but without even discussing it, Paul and Henry made the adjustments to our bill because of the rain changes we had only needed one sound system. It seemed like every other vendor tried to make the most of the rain and charge us for things that we didn't end up using because it was already agreed upon, but Paul and Henry only charged us for what we ended up using, another incredible sign of good business. I would highly recommend Big Fun to anyone. Our DJ Woody is the best! He did an excellent job on our wedding day! Everyone enjoyed it. Our wedding was a little unique, since we wanted Woody to coordinate certain Chinese specific wedding games, provide a guitar hookup and microphone for your live musician, and get a reserved crowd involved and dancing. We feel like he was able to accomplish all these desires, as well as keep us in the loop throughout the evening. I'm so happy that I picked Big Fun to DJ and MC our wedding! read more

We got married on Oct 10th and my husband, who's an event planner, suggested we use Big Fun because he has used them at several corporate gigs and he was always pleased with them. We met with Henry a week before the wedding, and he was incredibly professional. He knew the whole wedding deal inside and out, made us think of things even my detail oriented husband-to-be hadn't thought of and was able to call out our music style after just a few questions. For the reception music (most important part!), we were supposed to do some homework and send it back to him after the meeting, which of course we didn't as we were busy with last minute details and lots of family/ friends coming into town. Henry was super nice about it and said he would make it work, and that he did! Needless to say, the entire day was a hit. Henry controlled the mics during the ceremony with perfection, he kept us on schedule throughout dinner and the reception was a blast. From the first song to the last, the dance floor was packed. I was actually secretly praying for a bad song so I could get some fresh air, but he kept us tied to the dance floor literally all night long. We used Woody for our wedding DJ this fall and could not have been happier. He's highly organized, worked closely with the coordinator at our caterer for the day-of schedule, and went with the flow when unplanned toasts threw the schedule off a bit. I think everyone has been to weddings where the DJ thinks he is the entertainment rather than the music. That is not Woody. We gave him a pretty big list of options for our playlist and he ran with it based on our general preferences. Music was great, everything was well timed and we all had a fun time. Woody was fantastic! Our wedding ceremony and reception were both outdoors, with a separate indoor setup for dancing after the reception. Woody was brilliant for all 3 of these very different environments. The audio for our outdoor ceremony was so good that guests repeatedly asked where my microphone was, and the truth was that I wasn't wearing one. Only the groom and officiant were mic'd. Woody simply live-adjusted the sound during the vows, so everyone heard us perfectly. The speeches during the reception were equally well-heard. And his music selection was perfect; our dance floor was always full. He even brought lights and a fog machine to create a real party scene on the dance floor, which also made for some truly epic pictures. Finally, I was a meticulous bride, and Woody worked with me on a tight timeline detailing literally every minute of the wedding day. On the day of, Woody kept us exactly on schedule. Henry was fantastic to work with! Very professional and accommodating. He is extremely responsive via email. One time we emailed him at 2-3am in the morning, and he replied back with answers right away! He always would summarize our thoughts and would provide extremely helpful feedback. He was able to create a draft itinerary with all the components of our wedding right away. This was important because we relied on his expertise to put together a timeline that not only fit our needs but was also realistic. He was able to give us time by time details on each aspect of the wedding from the speeches, to the table toasting, and dancing. You just need to tell him what kind of music you like and he'll put together a great song list for you. On our wedding day, our reception coordinator loved working with him. He was always on top of things. He made sure our day went smoothly. You would see him run around making sure everyone was ready and knew what they were doing. Henry is always prepared to have a back up in case things don't go as planned. This was important for us because we didn't have to worry and could just enjoy your wedding reception. He arrived early and was setup and ready to go. He was enthusiastic the entire evening til the last song was played. We definitely would recommend Henry to anyone. read more
