When my wife and I met with him before the wedding to discuss music, he was super thorough in asking about all the details of the day and timeline. Vibes from start to finish working with him were so chill and made the process stress free. We used a software to keep the timeline and notes organized for the day of and he was really on top of coordinating with our day of coordinator and photographer. During our wedding day, he did a great job MC-ing and making sure the vibe was cool throughout cocktail hour and open dancing. All of our friends loved him. He was engaging and was able to incorporate all the different types of music genres we liked (edm, hyphy music, pop punk, etc). 10/10 would book him for future events!

We met Ray for the first time as he was the DJ my cousin found for her wedding a year before us. We were impressed from the start & knew we had to get his card to DJ at my wedding & we were beyond blessed that he was able to! We couldn't afford a wedding planner as we had a tight budget & he really helped us a lot. He went above and beyond to invite us into his home on a work night & let us stay there until he was sure we had everything planned out from start to finish, not just the songs but he actually planned the entire reception out so we had a complete timeline and not once did he stop to look at the clock, he was just focused on us & getting every detail about us as a couple & of what we wanted our wedding to be like. My name is Pamela, my husband Kyle and I just got married on September 7. Kyle and I searched and searched for a "Good" DJ. We met with a couple of them and we got more and more concerned. It was not until my mom's hair dresser had just been to a wedding where DJ Sugar Ray was the DJ. She spoke very highly of him, so Kyle and I thought we would give it a shot. DJ Sugar Ray was beyond amazing. He welcomed me and Kyle right into the wedding DJ world. Let's just say I was one of those bride's who had a lot of ideas, music, and thoughts. Sugar Ray was open to all of them and even worked with us giving us suggestions and thoughts on what would be best for our wedding. Sugar Ray always said our wedding could be "BK" Style, just like Burger King, we could have it our way. Our wedding was absolutely amazing. Sugar Ray did above and beyond. Cartwright DJ Services exceeded our expectations and was a major factor in the overwhelming success of our wedding day. Through every step of planning our special day DJ Sugar Ray was attentive, responsive, thoughtful and energetic. He was proactive in communicating with us to make sure everyone was on the same page with our itinerary and playlist. He was also very thoughtful and creative in helping us select the right songs for the right moments during our reception. At the reception we were pleasantly surprised when Ray began walking around with his cordless mic singing some of the classic wedding songs with his own unique twist - and what a great voice he has! Dj Ray Cartwright is exactly who you want if you need if you are throwing an event. My wife and I first met with Ray at a friend's birthday party and we were amazed with him. So when we decided to get married I knew right away that I wanted Ray as our Dj. When we contacted him, he was really friendly and was able to schedule a meeting with no problem. He is very friendly and polite and was more then helpful with just picking out music. My wife was mainly the only person planning out the wedding and had no idea what to do for the reception. Ray was able to give us a rundown of how everything will go and was able to make a schedule which helped out so much. He was really able to put us on ease with the reception and reassured us that it will be a lot of fun especially under his care. And the day of our wedding, he was able to keep to his promise and then some. He was able to get his equipment set on time and even brought his own lights to the reception. My wife and I forgot to give him a list of songs to play for party but he was able to handle the situation with no problem. Great host, he was able to keep everyone laughing and having a fun time. I am 200% pleased with the services we received from Ray at our wedding a few days ago. He is absolutely amazing and SO MANY of our guests (we had 200) have gone out of their way to tell us how good he was. Prior to my wedding, Ray was the DJ for three different weddings in my husbands family-so if that doesn't tell you how good he is then I don't know what will! When it came time for us to pick our DJ, my husband was very adamant that he wanted Ray and I am so thankful that he was available. Ray definitely knows how to get the crowd going and KEEP it going! We had such a blast during the reception and from all of the pictures and videos I have seen, I know our guests did too. Another bonus is that he also takes photos and posts them on his Facebook page! I just had to write this review about DJ Sugar Ray! I am the Special Events Coordinator at Bunker Elementary School in Newark. Since our past DJ Mr. Brandon Harrington moved to CO we have been at a loss to find a DJ that could interact and go the extra mile at our events for our kids. Well we found him! DJ Sugar Ray!! Last Friday night he did our Annual Ice Cream Social at our school and he was so wonderful with the kids, they loved him and so did we all! He was so attentive to me and my staff with the many games we wanted to do with the kids, hot potato (with records), the limbo, and the conga!! It was a blast!! He was sweating and running around with them letting them sing in the mic, handing out prizes, and just being really interative with all the attendees of our annual social party. My bride and I got married this past weekend, May 25th. DJ Ray helped make our day memorable. First, he met with us beforehand to get a feel for what type of music we liked and to be able to understand what our vision was for the event since we were organizing everything ourselves. He made suggestions on how it can flow musically as well as how to keep our guest engaged throughout the day and night. For example, he conducted a guess the song/ artist music trivia game that if guessed right, that table would get to go get their food from the buffet that was being served. Our guest really got into it! It was fun and very entertaining! When it was time to get the party started, he asked everyone to join us and gather around the dance floor for our mother/ son dance, which was followed with a couple's dance. This got everyone up on the floor dancing and continued throughout the evening. To top this all off, Ray even took pictures during our ceremony that were incredible! Thank you Ray, you helped make our day special and for anyone reading this posting, I definitely recommend having Ray for any occasion that you need someone to DJ and MC for. read more

To start of this man is amazing! You won't find a better DJ in the Bay Area then Ray Cartwright. My new husband and I got married on 11/12/16 and he was the first DJ we met with and by the end of the meeting he was hired. Out of all our vendors he was the most praised by our guest. Even my husbands relatives from Minnesota raved about him at breakfast the next day and couldn't believe that we found him on our first try. He really listened to us and made great suggestion on music through out the wedding that really made sense for us as a couple. He played a great mix of new upbeat songs and songs that are all time favs like footloose and bohemian rhapsody. He got all the guests up and dancing even our grandmothers. He was also very kinda and really made everyone feel at home there!!!!! He also helped run the show so to speak and made sure we were running on time. I would have hired him as my wedding corrdinator if I could have. Bottom line if you are getting married in Northern California this man is about a 20star DJ. We hired DJ Sugarray for our recent wedding. He was absolutely superb. I would hire him again in a heartbeat. Just a few of the reasons why he is so great: 1) He'll make your ceremony and reception flow smoothly and seamlessly. A good wedding depends on a series of smooth transitions from event to event (dance/cake/video/speeches, etc). Ray makes it all so easy. You have nothing to worry about with Ray! DJ Ray made our wedding day a blast and memorable! Starting of with how we casually met him because of his printed sweatshirt, he got us on board with preparations and a detailed run through with how our wedding program will look like and how we wanted it to be. He gave great suggestions which actually worked fabulous. On the big day itself, he was very flexible with both major and minor changes. Even though our event was in the park, his voice and his music were very much audible. During the reception, we didn't have to worry and we gave our full trust to him to lead everyone with the program and he kept a good track of time! He also even added lights to the room! Since we were celebrating a multicultural wedding, he understood our requests like for example the honeymoon dance (Philippine traditional dance). Even days after our party, our guests have complimented how they had so much fun and enjoyed his music while dancing. If you ever have the need for a DJ... Ray Cartwright is the man for you!!! I have used Ray in the past for various corporate events (in which he always exceeded my expectations!) But I have never witnessed him handling a wedding - Well I got that opportunity this past weekend - He DJ'd my son's wedding at The Ranch in San Jose. His professionalism and attention to all the details was just amazing. Ray knows how to generate excitement and get the crowd engaged. He facilitated the entire wedding - from getting folks seated at the start of the ceremony to the very last dance of the amazing evening. No crowd is too big or too small for your talents!! DJ Sugar Ray got a 5-star rating! He was very professional from the very beginning. Working with him was great! He made me feel like my event was a priority. We constantly communicated by phone and he was always quick to respond to my emails. I met him at his house and since he was the professional, he gave me a lot of great ideas! When I first met DJ Sugar Ray, I thought that he had a great personality and that he would make my 25th Anniversary a really fun event! Little did I know how memorable and magical the whole night would be for me! Sugar Ray made me feel like a queen all night long!!! If I could give a thousand stars, I would!! DJ Ray is the best that there is! We met DJ Ray when he hosted my uncle's retirement party in San Jose. My fiancee and I fell in love with him immediately! We knew we had just met the person to do our wedding. From the time we contacted him to the time he hosted to our event, DJ Ray was so professional, he was attentive to our needs and he became like family to us. During the wedding, our decorator dropped the ball by forgetting the uplighting to our our event. DJ Ray to the rescue! DJ Sugar Ray is the only DJ in the bay area that will make your wedding memorable for sure!!!! DJ Sugar Ray was the MC/DJ for my friend's wedding yesterday, and he did an outstanding job. From the moment the ceremony began, he clearly had the audience's attention, and helped them focus on what was going on with the bride and groom. He did a great job not only keeping the guest informed of what was going on or coming up, but he kept great overall flow of the reception. The music he played was a great compliment to the wedding. He played not only what the bride and groom wanted, by he helped facilitated a fun reception by playing music everyone knew and loved! He had everyone on the dance floor, old, young, you name it. We found DJ Cartwright through a recommendation of a co-worker who had used him for a wedding. DJ Ray DJ'd our 2014 Corporate Holiday Party. He was a "Boss" at understanding the crowd musically. It wasn't long before he had our High Tech, Peninsula crowd doing the Macarena, the Cupid Shuffle and everybody just plain ol' free-styling while grooving in place. Parts of the crowd broke out in a competitive circle dancing to Pop Indian music. The crowd even hustled in a dance train from the first floor, leading up to the balcony and back down again. After we called each raffle winner, DJ Cartwright played the perfect song for each person's approach to the stage, building up the anticipation as the crowd cheered and partied to their arrival. We had so much fun! As Event Planner, I'm still hearing how good the party was and every person has named the DJ for the reason. Awesome, awesome, awesome party! read more

DJ sugar ray did my wedding last night and I immediately made a yelp account JUST to review him because how amazing he was!!! I wish I could give him 20 stars! He was by far the best DJ I have ever met and got to see in action. Not just that, he did much more than any other DJ. While my husband was getting ready with the groomsmen he was right there helping the guys get there tuxes fixed and getting them prepped. He took pictures and acted as a second photographer! He even got down on the dance floor and danced with myself and all my guests. He did EVERYTHING we asked for and was very accommodating. My husband is in a wheelchair so for our first meeting he drove all the way to San Jose to meet us in our home to make it easier for my husband. All my guest loved him and we were told SEVERAL times throughout the night that our wedding was the best they ever been to and I have most of that to thank to Ray! read more

Ray was recommended to me through a close friend and after meeting him, there wasn't any doubt that this guy was going to be our DJ for our wedding. We got married at wente winery in Livermore, let's just say Ray has the perfect mix of class and humor to get your party out there!! Even before the wedding, I was asked who my DJ was and surprisingly a lot of people knew of him, had been to all types of parties he's worked at and none of them said anything negative, in fact they all told me to get ready to have a good time.. I didn't need any reassurance but if you are looking to be like the cool kids- have Ray provide the entertainment, he does not disappoint. We found DJ Sugarray through a family member. Since then they have been to about 4 other weddings that he has done...all equally as fun. We used him on 09.10.11 and seriously he made our wedding! As the bride there are no words that can express how perfect he made our day. He was very entertaining, and easy to work with. He makes sure things everything is how you like it and he is very multicultural and suitable for ANY type of wedding. All the guests told me he was funny and made the wedding! It was 1 thing on our list that I did not have to worry about. He is very organized and a character not to go unnoticed. He is very easy going but you can see his passion for djaying/emceeing. He is able to adapt to when venue conditions are out of our control or when events might not have gone as planned. During the interview process I quickly realized Norman's intent was to understand the tone we wanted to set for our wedding day, he wanted to know about my fiancé and asked if he could drop off a binder to me to review before I made my decision. Wow! Very impressive binder I must say. To gather songs selections for important moments, record our love story and review the "binder" which had all the information from our venue to questions about each person in our wedding party. Later he would use this to create the most funniest bridal party entrances, not to mention all the proper pronunciations of some hard names. He worked closely with our wedding coordinator on our timeline she shared with him to keep our guests informed and the ceremony/reception running smoothly and on time. He took command of the room, read the crowd for the right music selection, got the party started and ROCKED the house. Not only playing back to back hits that got everyone out of their seats but on cue with all announcements!! Thank you Norman for making our wedding day a memorable one. Johnny was our DJ for our wedding at Blanco in San Jose. He is an amazing DJ and person and was…read moreeasy to work with from beginning to end. He is responsive, friendly and professional. As we got closer to the wedding date, he had a worksheet that we could fill out to convey important information (wedding locations, schedule, key songs, announcements, preferred genres, etc) and then he set up a Zoom call to discuss the details together. That call made me feel very comfortable and confident that Johnny knew the ins and outs of our day and that he would be there for us every step of the way. On wedding day, he had his setup for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and remembered all the details we discussed and he executed it perfectly. The microphones always worked and the sound was clear every time. He made a point to check with us the pronunciation of names of the bridal party, which we appreciated. Johnny also has a great voice and energy for getting guests to follow instructions and getting everyone hyped. Our dance floor was so much fun and he was a huge part of it. We highly recommend Johnny!
