The place was so clean, I half expected a cleaning fairy to waltz in and curtsy. The furniture and beds? Comfier than a post-Thanksgiving nap. Pillows? Fluffier than a baby alpaca. And those clear plastic boxes for extra bedding? Pure organizational wizardry. Marie Kondo would weep. Cozy blankets made me consider quitting my job and becoming a professional blanket burrito. Pet friendly too--complete with poop bags and couch covers so my dog could live her best life and I didn't have to wrestle her off the sofa like a WWE match. The smoking station on the back porch? Genius. Keeps butts out of nature while still letting smokers feel fancy. The kitchen? Huge table, solid chairs, and a crockpot that made me feel like I'd been transported to a cooking show. Quality pots and pans for days, but only four coffee mugs. FOUR. For a whole chalet. Are we hosting an exclusive espresso club? And one dish towel? My sponge practically filed a complaint. Here's the kicker: it snowed overnight the first night, and by the time we came back from skiing, the walkway was shoveled and the hot tub lid was cleared off like some magical snow-removal ninja had swung by. Honestly, it felt like Santa was moonlighting as chalet maintenance. We did lose heat the first night for a few hours, which gave us an unexpected "polar survival" experience, but those thick duvets were life-savers. Overall, 10/10. Already plotting how to make this my permanent address.

Sharon and Chuck are warm and welcoming and will go out of their way to make your stay in St Elmo memorable. St Elmo itself it worth the visit and takes you back to the glory days of the gold & silver boom and bust. The history and sheer preservation of the town are remarkable. The B&B accommodated our children (8 & 11) and put on a heck of a spread for breakfast and dinner. It was well worth the extra charge for lunch as it was also well made (and there isn't any other dining options for at least an hour drive away). They even provided us free chipmunk feed! Be aware, there is NO cellular service but guests will have access to WiFi. The building itself could easily be mistaken for a renovated hotel from the 1880's but you'd be wrong as it was constructed in 2002. The reclaimed wood, furniture, and features make it fit right in with the ghost town. The chipmunk village is a must-do for kids and kids at heart! The hikes and trails surrounding the area are fairly easy and there are even more hidden points of interest in the surrounding the valley. We stayed during Labor Day weekend so be aware of ATVs and 4x4's during the summer months. We would love to stay again!

Not surprising, since it's out in the middle of a ghost town... We went up during the winter, just because. My understanding (speaking directly to Chuck and Sharon) is that they're open 24x7x365 for reservations - I just checked their website to confirm and it appears they're still going strong. During the cold months, the B&B is literally the only thing open, St Elmo is population: 2, plus whomever is staying there. That makes it incredibly cool, quiet, and just awesome. Snowmobilers and showshoers will show up and wander around during the daylight hours; otherwise it's just you and nature. If you dare brave the route, I actually do recommend the wintertime. Sharon is an amazing cook (pay the extra for all three meals!), and Chuck built the house himself. They used a ton of reclaimed woods and rustic materials; I would hate to detract from the beauty of the property (and the town) by attempting to describe it. I'll simply say that it's warm, friendly, and totally worth the trek. As wonderful a B&B as I've ever been. They even took us out on a snowshoe hike and told us a tremendous amount of history about St. Elmo, the mining operations that built and ruined the town, and all sorts of other interesting tidbits that make it a special place for them. It will be a special place for you too. Check out the website!

They quickly responded to inquiries and were genuinely interested in the comfort/enjoyment of our stay. We had some changes in the length of our stay and they were able, and willing, to accommodate our request. Our family of eight chose to stay in a beautiful home, 903 Swift Circle. Perfect location. Beautiful accommodations. Location: Rocking chairs and comfortable seating on the front porch affords beautiful views of surrounding mountains. Access to the river and the popular South Main beach area is within short walking distance. A little longer but scenic walk will bring you to the busy shops/eateries on Main Street. Delightful! Accommodations: Spacious. Clean. Nicely appointed. Beautiful artwork. Access to the third 'floor' bedroom was via a tight staircase. A private room with two double beds, a TV, and full bath was perfect for my daughter and guest. A beautiful stairway led to three second floor bedrooms, all with king-sized beds and one access to the second-floor deck. The master bedroom and bath was spacious and included an exquisite glassed-in shower. The other two rooms shared a full bath. On the ground floor was a beautiful breakfast nook where family enjoyed eating, laundry room, powder room, and kitchen/family area. The Murphy Bed in the dining room accommodated another guest. You can't put a price tag on the joy of having all of your family in one place, comfortable and happy! We are thankful for the engagement of SMVR who provided excellent service and accommodations for celebrating our joyous occasion! Oh! The views from 903 Swift Circle are spectacular. During our five-day stay we saw a double-rainbow and some incredibly beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

There is also a long counter area with a sink, microwave, and small refrigerator. The proprietors supplied the room with a portable burners, if you wish to cook. Since there weren't restaurants in the area, we stopped at Whole Foods in Denver and stocked up on food for the weekend. After a long day of hiking, this was a great place to relax and unwind. Oh yes, there was also wireless internet for those who must stay connected. Liz was a great host to us. She offered to loan us winter gear for our trek, and she had homemade peanut butter cookies waiting for us upon our return. We stayed two nights- early the morning of our attempt at Mt Elbert, she made a robust breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. The next morning was more relaxed, and she met us with pancakes and sausage. Delicious. The view was wonderful as well- on the patio, there are plenty of chairs to lounge around an outdoor fireplace, and there is a jacuzzi. All this overlooks Twin Lakes and the majestic mountains in the background. Next time, I hope to indulge in the outdoor amenities!

Liz has cooked great us many great breakfasts and we've shared awesome conversations about all things in life - kids, life, teaching and the Leadville 100 MTB race. Since they live along the Leadville MTB race route and usually have racers staying with them, for the race they go out to cheer on and support the racers. They have a beautiful home, which I wish I could actually buy since they're selling it to move on to their next chapter in life. Front staff was friendly (Karen & Matt). Room was a good size + balcony. Even though we were on the street side and a block from bus terminal, you could barely hear outside noises. Free breakfast. Decent choices. One different hot entree daily. Clean room, but very outdated. I was told that the property was sold and eventually will be renovated. Cleaning lady said they thoroughly clean the window screens on a regularly basis - impressive. CONS Small bathroom, tight door access was hard to get around. Mis-matched room furniture (a few pieces could have been removed). It would have been nice if the hotel gave us an information sheet about the hotel (garage, street parking, pool, bar, etc.) when we arrived. Tight garage, only one entrance for in/out. Make sure you use the keycode at the top street entrance of the garage. Door opens automatically when exiting. Bar was closed. The whole place is in need of paint job, carpets changed, etc. Does not look like it has been cared for in a long time. Carpet and furniture stains found. Limited street parking. So we have had our eyes on this property for a long time and finally took the plunge with a 6 night…read morestay through the Labor Day weekend this year. For reference, we stayed in Red Fox which is a historical cabin built in 1939. It was advertised as a separate bed room cabin great for a couple or a small family with a fully equipped kitchen. We picked it over some of the other properties since we preferred the separate bedroom format with our 3 year old who does best when he is in his own room (for sleeping), plus we were worried about the lofted cabins due to concerns with him potentially falling. I'll start by saying that the location and the overall property is fantastic. Great location with immediate access to outdoor activities and really gives you the feeling of being away from things (down a 2 mile dirt road from South Crested Butte). The cabin itself was lacking in my opinion however and maybe our expectations were just too high. First up, it was really small. Like crash into the wall and door frame small. I'm 6'1" and 190 pounds and could barely clear the door frame into the bathroom without hitting my head on it. I couldn't sit on the toilet properly since I didn't have enough room for my legs and could barely fit in the shower. The queen bed in the bedroom can only be entered from one side requiring you to literally climb over the other person if you have to get up in the middle of the night for any reason. The kitchen also was a source of frustration for us as it did not include a microwave. We had promised our 3 year old that we'd be able to make popcorn (something he loves) and could not during the stay. Maybe I was presumptuous to assume a fully equipped kitchen included a microwave, but oh well, it is what it is. Also be aware that your phone will almost certainly not work here and the wifi internet is extremely slow. I know this is a minor quibble, but for those of us who do need to stay somewhat connected for business, etc. this can be a bit of a problem also. I'd maybe give Pioneer another chance down the road if we stay in the Crested Butte area again, but definitely not in Red Fox. Maybe we've just been spoiled by more "modern" cabins, but you should know what you're getting into before booking this one.
